2019 Sorento - Tailgate opens but when we push the button to close we get 3 beeps and nothing

Opening the tailgate works fine from the remote or any of the buttons on the car but when we press the button on the tailgate that up till now has closed the hatch all that happens is it beeps three times and nothing.

I've looked up a few things like holding down the inner and outer button together for 4 seconds and I get the single beep from that but it doesn't resolve the issue.

Searching around the internet hasn't found me any other suggestions so I'm hoping someone here has had this and solved it already

Just general advice.

My partner and I bought a 2022 Sportage SX 2.0L petrol fwd about 12 months ago, had an unlucky accident, wrote the vehicle off, and our insurance sourced us a 2023 model SX as a replacement. Overall I was pretty happy with the car, and my wife loves it. I just wanted to see if anyone knows of any current issues relating to the petrol engines. I've seen some things regarding 2012-2018 models, and ongoing issues with the diesels, but can't seem to find anything about the 2.0 petrol engines. I realise it's a new vehicle, without much time to show potential issues.

Kia optima ESP issue

Hey Everyone,

Looking for some advice. I purchased a used kia optima a few years back. Had some steering wheel clicking issues and got the coupler replaced. That fixed the issue, but it caused my esp and traction control light to light up, causing the steering wheel to lock up.

I took it back to the mechanic, got my rotors and pads replaced while the esp issue was looked at, but nothing was found. Everything worked fine for about 1000 miles after the coupler fix, until the steering wheel locks up again. Thankfully I was by an autozone and grabbed an error code scanner. I received a C1260 code, steering wheel angle sensor signal implausible.

Took it back to the mechanic, had the sensor recalibrated, it cleared, but ended up showing again. The steering wheel locked up on a test drive after recalibration. My mechanic suggested I take it to kia, but looking online, I found videos of people replacing the clock spring as a fix. The mechanic hasn't replaced this and I was thinking about asking him to.

I also notice that the angle sensor is a separate part, attached to the spring clock. Do new spring clocks come with angle sensors? Or would I have to purchase both? Asking in case I decide to do the fix myself

Any help is greatly appreciated

2019 Sorento with 2 car seats

Question: I have a 2008 Buick Enclave currently. We have 3 kids, 2 of which in car seats. I’m not LOOKING for a car, but my neighbor has a really good deal on a 2019 Sorento and I’m trying to decide if it’s even a good idea space wise. It’s obviously much newer and has 110k less miles. My dilemma: I am not looking to buy new car seats. I have a Safety First Grow with Me seat for my 18 month old that’s still rear facing, and I will have a Doonah infant seat that’s rear facing. We also have a 12 year old.

With the Buick Enclave, the 12 year old should be able to move past the base of the infant seat to get in the third row before I place the infant seat in the car. Is it possible to access the 3rd row of the Sorento with 2 car seats in the second row? Other than through the back hatch? I don’t think infant seat will actually fit in the middle next to the rear facing seat.

Any opinions on the Sorento are welcome!

2017 Sedona SX power liftgate stops part way

I’ve been having issues with a 2017 Sedona SX where the power liftgate will unlatch and the warning beeps will sound but the door will stop in random positions of partially open without opening fully and must be manually opened the rest of the way and closed manually.

I’ve tried the height reset without any luck and have come to the conclusion that either one or both of the lift struts are failing or there is something wrong with the door controller.

Has anyone else had this issue? The parts are expensive and I don’t want to throw things at it without a good idea of what would fix it.

Kia Sportage 2023 AC issues

Hey all. So I’m curious, the other day I noticed it was taking exceptionally long for my AC (on cold with high blast) to get cold. I felt the passenger side and that was ice cold but driver side was warm. It was on sync not dual/different temps. I took it in to the dealer and they finally figured there was a weak point in the AC evaporator that fractured and caused a leak? And now they have to order the new part for a two day repair/install. My question is; why is anything wrong? This car is one year old, NOTHING should be “weak” or causing leaks. Anyone else heard of this?

Anyone ever put bigger tires and rims on?

I was looking to make my car look less like a piece of doo doo and wanted to get bigger rims and tires, I have a 2017 Kia forte LX

The tires are 195/65/r15 at 6.5, 5x114.3

Haven’t bought any and was wanting to see if 205/55/r16s fit but don’t have any to test on and honestly don’t want to spend the money and time seeing if it works unless I have to.

So to go the easy route I came here first to ask if anyone had put on bigger tires, maybe not on my specific car. But putting bigger tires on a base model or if you do know, the help would definitely be appreciated

Edit: the 205s are from the EX forte not the LX. Just wanting to see if I can upgrade to a higher model tire if yk what I mean

Kia forte gt Apple CarPlay issue

Is there a way to replace the usb port for apple car play or is there a video to do this? I tried taking it to the dealership but they wanted to keep my car for a week I rather just replace the part myself

Is this engine knock in my 2018 sportage with 60,000 miles?

Behind the ticking noise there’s a knocking, like an old school diesel. I swear it didn’t used to sound like that.

Good/Bad experiences Kia Sorento Hybrid owners would like to share?

Car hunting is upon my household and I’ve been eyeing these new Kias. I’ve only had Hondas and Toyotas so would like to know how your Kia has treated you.

Right now, I would ideally like a Hybrid SUV at least and I am really liking the Sorento Hybrid.

Stinger GT to K5 GT experience

I figured I would share this experience as there seems to be quite a bit of cross shopping between Stingers and K5s. (Or at least used stingers now 😭) And maybe someone will find this helpful.

5 years ago I purchased a used 2018 Stinger GT with 8k miles on it. I paid $32k. I absolutely loved that car and outside of some minor paint issues it was one of the best cars I ever owned.

Long story short I end up hitting a deer (after paying the thing off) and totaled it. I was heartbroken 😭

I really wanted another Stinger GT but figured I would go for a new one to get the 100k warranty but the prices had gotten outrageous. There were severa Stingerl GTs sitting for $55k+ on lots in my area. So things had clearly changed in the world since I last bought a car.

I shopped for GT lines and used GTs but still found those prices above my budget (or with too many miles for my comfort). I was clearly needing to lower my expectations. 😬

So I give up and go back to the drawing board. While doing research I stumble on the K5 GT which to me seems to have a very "stinger-esq" look and is embarrassing a few V8s in comparisons and long story short I end up getting one new for under my budget.

This car is not a stinger, but dang if it's close. Yes, the stinger was faster but not THAT much faster. Yes the RWD was nice but I'm not exactly drifting while driving to work so the FWD is fine for me.

The K5 has more bells and whistles, gets about 8mpg better, and runs on regular. All pretty big perks.

Now I'm not gonna say the K5 is the better car, that would be silly, the stinger was perfection for me. But for today's prices I think it's a really good car for the money and I think most people will have just as much fun in this car as they would in a stinger. And the performance times between the K5 GT and Stinger GT Line are uncomfortably close. (At least in a straight line lol)

So if you are on the fence between the two, let me assure you as a long term driver of both that you won't regret getting the K5 GT.

Denied engine replacement on p1327 code

I was wondering if any customers here or preferably dealer employees have seen this. I had a customer come to my shop with a p1327 code. Upon looking at Kias TSB they say a Long block is the only replacement and is under warranty. When they went to Kia they cleared the code and said even if it came back they wouldn't replace it. Has something changed? Is it not under warranty? Do they need another dealer?

2021 vs 2023 driver assistance features?

On a fully loaded Niro EV would there be much difference in the ADAS features between the previous gen and current gen models?

I am trying to figure out if it wort h spending more for the new generation worth the extra cost.

Wireless car play not connecting.

Hi! I tried to search for an answer to my question but everything I could find had to do with the wired CarPlay. Does anyone know why this happens or if there is a fix?

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Usually it’s when I get out of my car after driving and get back in within the hour it won’t connect. But recently it’s been happening the first time I get in my car for hours. My phone is here, Bluetooth is on and it connects to that, but car play will not work. Every setting that is needed is turned on.

It’s really frustrating because I need my maps a lot due to always driving to new work sites and with the new cars not having built in gps anymore, it’s become a safety issue for me.

Kia impressive

Do you know why KIA has decided to design the ugliest cars in history ? Its only rival in ugliness is Hyunday , but KIA is first by far with its impressively ugly obscene cars. Good quality, but hellish design.

Thanks for your opinions

Carseat question!

Does anyone have experience trying to get three adults and two carseats (one infant, one convertible) in a Kia Sorento?

Having an adult in the middle seat in the second row seems doable if not super comfortable if you’re small-ish and get in before putting the infant seat in the base. We’ve also played around with having either the adult and/or the convertible seat in the third row ind different configurations but then it doesn’t seem like taking a double stroller would be an option given the limited trunk space left.

Any experiences or ideas would be appreciated!

Good Will,buy back, replacement

So I bought an EV9 two months ago. It's been in the shop for 50 days. They finally fixed the issue and I can pick up Friday. Kia corporate said they will pay for two months (lease payments). Curious if there is anything I could ask for?

Thanks!

Lease Service Plan Question

So l'm leasing a 2024 Kia Seltos, leased in June of 23’. I purchased the service plan, ext service contract, and something called Ethos Select which I don’t even know what that is lol. Long story short. I moved to another state. It is my understanding that these services I pay for only work at the dealership I purchased it from. Is there anyway to get a refund?

Kia maintenance plan vs. maintenance at regular schedule

How important is it to opt for Kia maintenance plan while purchasing a new vehicle? Kia plan covers the following:

  • Full synthetic oil and filter replacement (EVs excluded)
  • Tire rotation
  • Air filter replacement (EVs excluded)
  • Cabin air filter replacement
  • Brake fluid replacement
  • Spark plug replacement (EVs excluded)
  • High voltage system coolant (EV only)
  • Comprehensive multipoint inspection

Do we need to do all these every six months? There is no end of being paranoid. What if I perform regular maintenance at a fixed schedule, like change oil and rotate tires every six months (I don't think I'll hit anywhere close to 5,000 miles in six months) from a mechanic outside? That will definitely be cheaper than the Kia plan. If I get maintenance done by a local mechanic, does that void the warranty?
