Hello Kia experts!
I personally am an absolutely zealous Toyota hybrid fan and will probably only ever buy them or Lexus until I go full electric, at which point the BZ4X will unfortunately probably not be the car I buy. With that said, my friend has asked me to help him choose between a 2024 Kia Sportage hybrid, or a RAV4 hybrid of the same year.
He prefers the Kia because it looks better, has better features, and is $9K AUD cheaper. These are all good reasons for him to go for a Kia as far as I'm concerned, but I know nothing about the relative reliability of hybrid Kias compared to Toyota and he has specifically asked for my input on that aspect because I know Toyota hybrids so well.
It seems the first ever Kia hybrid was made in 2011, and the first hybrid Sportage was 2024.
What should I be looking for or avoiding in terms of reliability or known weak points in the Kia hybrid drive train? Is their hybrid technology still too new to be competitive with Toyota, or has 13 years been enough for their design to mature to the point where the remaining warranty on a 2024 should be enough?
Thanks in advance everyone!
This is the first time I heard this noise in the years of ownership. I recently took it in for a recall where they had to change the spark plugs so that the engine would not be susceptible to a fire. A mechanic told me that it sounded like a rod knocking and he wasn't too optimistic about the outcome. It sounds like it would cost more than the car is worth to have it repaired and may look into trading it in. What does it sound like to you? Suggestions to get clarification before taking it to a Kia dealership for diagnosis. Thanks.
I have a 2024 Seltos EX with the non powered lift gate. When it hits bellow freezing outside the lift gate button seems to get stuck and not work. After many attempts the button finally starts to warm up and start functioning normally. Has anyone run into this problem?
So I purchased a 2025 Kia Sportage EX w/ premium package. First time personally buying a Kia. Since everyone says Honda and Toyota are more reliable, here is my anecdotal experience:
New 2012 Honda Accord lx- perfect car no issues and sold after 40-50k miles.
New 2018 Honda odyssey ex-l: transmission had a kick to it. Traded it in for a new 2020 Odyssey ex-l after about 30k miles.
2020 Odyssey ex-l with nav and entertainment: Smooth and perfect powertrain, very refined driving experience. One day went to turn it on and nothing was coming on, no lights or any signs of life. Vehicle had less than 20k miles. Towed to dealer and turned out to be a loose wire under the passenger seat! Next the power liftgate failed after about 30k miles. The power side doors would not close sometimes. Had a bunch of stupid recalls that I never did. Rear camera would sometimes not show. Rear entertainment audio would not work with provided headphones. Sold the vehicle after 40k miles. Also which moron thought it was okay to have the sunroof open up from the key fob??
New 2024 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 built in Mexico. Workhorse and and fun but right off the lot the steering wheel was crooked when vehicle is moving straight. The doors would not latch properly. Alignment of certain body parts weren't good. Sold it after about 10,000 miles.
Now to be fair, the essential systems seemed to be bullet proof on these Japanese vehicles , which perhaps is the most crucial thing for long term buyers, but they also had notable issues especially with quality control as noted above.
Wish me luck on this new Kia!!
how do I get Kia to drop the mix “I like the way u look “
Can 225/50/17s work on it? Got a set of 4 continental tires with unilug rims, dont know if they fit or not.
Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me some help/advice.
I'm a week into my 2025 Sportage Hybrid and so far it's been really nice, but I'm having issues loading and streaming music through Bluetooth.
Android Auto works just fine, but for most of my day to day driving I don't want to plug my phone in every time I'm getting into the car.
If I open Media it'll play the last song that was playing on my phone and continue whatever playlist I was on, but if I try to load the playlists or search music it says playlist downloading isn't supported on this app, or something along those lines.
A bunch of searching has found other posts and forums similar to this, but I haven't seen any solutions so I figured I'd try here and see if people have this problem, have solved it and if so how, etcetera.
I can just control the music through the phone, but it looks like the car should be able to do this so I'm not sure why it can't.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy s20, with YouTube music premium, to a Sportage Hybrid EX.
Thank you for any help.
2017 Kia Sedona Ex
It's been two years and I'm tired of not listening to music in my car (ok I have a Bluetooth speaker) so two years ago my stock stereo would lose sound period but would easily be reset by the little button with a pen. This would happen every so often for a few months until you had to repeatedly reset it to get sound. Until that point the speakers would pop (amplifier under the seat?) anyway now no matter what you do in terms of resetting it, disconnecting the battery, pulling and checking the fuses, and checking the connections to the amplifier etc it still has no sound whatsoever. Occasionally when you open the drivers door you get a good popping sound from the speakers and if you manually reset it you will also get a popping sound.
Anyone else have the issue with an UVO stereo system and have ideas of a fix? Please don't say take it to the stealership....
TL;DR The paint on the hood of my KIA is chipping. NOT from stones. Dealership is refusing to take care of it. How do I go nuclear?
There are more than a few posts about paint specks peeling and delamination. So I have a question...
I have a 2024 Kia Seltos that developed a pinhole sized chip on the hood sometime in October. Brought it in for maintenance early November and asked about getting this addressed. Although now there are 3 chips and the first one is triple the size. In addition to this the curved part behind the door handles all have what appears to be vertical scratches and the pain is wearing down. We certainly don't scrape that space when we open our doors.
The service manager conveniently wasn't there so they took pictures and would get back to me. Now several weeks later I drive it back out to the dealership and talk with the same service advisor. Looks up the info and says the manager is unavailable and that he will call me back.
I got off the phone just recently with said service advisor and he tells me that the manager said it's from "outside influences" and not covered by warranty.
Now I am expecting a call from the service manager tomorrow. I think i will just drive it out in the morning so he can see it in person.
Anyway, I know they are going to dodge this and I'm pissed. Who here has dealt with this and how do I go nuclear? Will calling KIA directly offer any benefit?
It usually shows 35mpg on sport mode.
I have a Kia Seltos S 2022. Car drove perfectly fine this morning and then went to start it up after 2hr parked in the driveway and all of the warning lights and error messages flash up.
Car starts and can be driven but the dash doesn’t register it is turned on
Video shows what happens when vehicle is turned on. All fuses have been checked, battery disconnected and reconnected. No obstructions or dirt infront of windshield camera. Vehicle doesn’t have any collision or parking sensors.
Any other advice while I wait for the dealer to have time to check it out? TIA
What cleaning products do you guys use for interior and exterior just wondering
So just noticed a bulb is gone. Anyone know what bulb and how to replace it on a 2019 Kia Picanto GT line S? Tried googling it but not sure what the specific name for this light is?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Hi all,
In talks with buying from a private seller about their 2017 kia niro hybrid with 115,000 kms on it, base model.
They've done minimal service to it, mostly oil changes every 12,000km. Seller said they arent the type that goes to the dealership and follows their protocol- they just take it to a private oil change place. Seller said they've had the back rotors replaced, and there are no issues with it.
I was going to take it for a pre-purchase inspection at a KIA dealership to do my due diligence, but while on the line with Kia the service guy said for a car this year/km the following should have been done:
- GDI Engine injector / carbon blast (walnut clean) - approx $600.00
- Transmission/Collant flush (every 5 years)
- clutch release bearing system /belt replaced (every 2 years)- approx $300
- Spark plugs
- Clutch activated fluid $189
- There may have been a few other things or some of these items may be slightly wrong but i was furiously taking notes... hahaha
I'm second guessing this deal because it seems there has been no service done to this car, at the same time I know dealerships tend to try to get business and often request work be done before its needed. I'm not someone who knows alot about hybrid cars, so looking to see what other Kia owners think! What service have you had to do on your vehicle of a similar mileage/ year.
TIA if you're able to help me with this question!
Hey a strange 1 here in my opinion. Today i did a softwareupdate on my kia sorento PHEV 2021 MY20. The update went well. But now when my car is locked and i open my Kia Connect app and connect to my car it triggers my alarm. Anyone got an idea what might be a fix?
All happend after closing time of the garage, so didnt ask the dealer yet. But if i can fix it myself it is easjer ofc!
Already thanks if you reply!
Hi all, I have a 2nd gen Kia Picanto that I bought 1 year ago, however, the car came with broken centre cupholders. It has been bothering me up to now and I was wondering if anyone could help me find them as I can’t find them anywhere online. I am willing to order from oversees if anyone else is able to find them. Thanks in advance!
The old owner took off all the keyholes on the car, so I can't get in that way. Is there a way to manually open the hood from the outside so I can charge the battery?
I have a 2021 Honda CRV EX with 47K miles on it. Because I’d like to get something with a third row, and captains chairs even better, I’ve been looking at a Sorentos. I find the third row is a great size for my needs.I owe about 10K on the CRV
I found a 2022 wolf gray Kia sorento x line ex prestige with 53K miles selling for $31K. This is the fully loaded model. I was offered 21K on the CRV trade in for about 11K in trade allowance. I worked the seller down to 29,500 on the sorento. They said they could go no lower.
Ultimately I decided to pass on it/sleep on it last night. I am not sure I want to get something with 53K miles and be starting a new 5 or 6 year loan on it, and I have concerns about the reliability and depreciation of it once I get to/around 100K+ miles.
I love the features of this trim level and the looks of the car. I test drove an EX x line and si not like it as much. But the mileage and forecasted depreciation have me thinking I should just stick with my CRV for now. I don’t need the 3rd row urgently. But I am also wondering if I am passing up a great Sorento option at $29.5K. Thoughts? Thanks
Just got my new Sportage 2024 1.6 T-GDI manual and looking on how to make sure that I'm making her life as easy as possible.
Location: Slovakia, winters aren't as nasty as they used to be.
Any other suggestions I should look for. Frequent washing during winter and occasional hot wax on the body? I did read about PPF protection for paint work but that's starting to hit budget constraints at that point, at least for now.
Coming from 2009 Swift 1.5, loved the car, felt great around country roads. Now this Kia is smooth and quite compared to it, just a little soulless hah. I guess my MX5 fix will sort it in few years time.
Black Friday and cyber Monday are over but the deals are still here!! -Buy 2 sets get $10 off -Buy 3 sets get $20 off -Buy 5+ sets get $40 off! Follow my community to see more r/emblemoverlays
2023 Kia Sportage
As much as I love this car, bringing it in weekly for electrical issues is getting super tiring.
Battery changed once. 5-6th visit for electrical issues.
Tailgate falsely claiming that it’s open while driving and activating the brakes
Console lighting up like a Christmas tree with a bunch of error codes.
At what point can I claim this to be a lemon?
There is a whistle noise coming from the passenger door on my Kia Forte 2021. I have brought it to the dealer 3 times and they have replaced both gaskets, on the door and car, and the noise it is still there. Has anyone experienced this before ?
Does anyone have an idea what does the below alert mean on my dashboard? I can’t find anything in the manuals I’ve browsed online.
Thanks in advance!
Hello. I am shopping for a car for my 16-year-old daughter and have come across a 2017 Soul EV plus with 47,000 miles on it for 10k. It’s a one owner car with a clean car fax report. We’re going to the dealership tonight to test drive and ask questions, but I wanted to get advice as a person who hasn’t ever owned a Kia or an EV.
Do you think this car would be suitable for a high schooler driving locally to school and events? There wouldn’t be long distance driving.
Is the range going to be a problem, especially when she graduates and may need to drive further.
Does this seem like a good buy overall? Used car market is still insane.
Thank you!
