I need to get a few pieces checked out for insurance. The guy charges $150 USD for the 1st piece and $75 USD for any additional pieces after that. Is that normal?
Edit: Thank you to all for the replies and insight. Having feedback from professionals has been very helpful. I feel as though I was in the process of setting myself up to damage a bunch of stuff (which is the exact opposite of what I hoped to do.)
I am in the process of starting a jewelry polishing business. I won't be buying, selling, repairing, or keeping anything on-hand. Just finish work. I called a jewelry-specific insurance company to see if they offered a policy that would be suitable for such an endeavor, but the representative said that they don't have anything for this type of business. The manager at one of the local jewelry stores that needs services said she would start sending me work as soon as I was bonded and insured. The processes I will be using are very gentle and pose virtually no risk of damaging the pieces being processed. Can anyone point me in the direction of an insurer who might be good for this start-up? It will just be me working in a very secure office.
I made Damascus steel using an alternating pattern of 1084 and 15N20 steel and used the billet to make rings. Although they leave a brown mark around my finger after wearing, I was wondering if there was anything I could use to fix this?
I’m relatively new to jewelery making. I was just wondering which online vendors are reliable in terms of the general tools and metals
What are the best jewelers in Maryland for lab grown diamond and natural diamonds? And what are the best for trading in/selling diamonds?
Hello everyone,
I found this appraisal. Its from 1989.
I cant Imagine that there are still people around that would wear this kind of Ring. So my question: is the Rings worth even Close to 38k?
Unfortunatly i dont have the Ring - i am Just curious
Ok. Just curious if prices have changed this drastically from 2018- now…. We paid the full asking price because we absolutely wanted to replace my wedding band with an exact replica and the price is what it is just curious if prices have changed THIS much My wedding band originally cost 350 each. I lost one approx two years ago and it’s taken us this long to get the funds to replace it. Well now it cost 950 for a single band 😭 they claim gold prices are the reason which I can see but not that much. Some notes- The diamonds are cut diamonds not chips 14k rose gold It’s the same maker and I got some gold credit for taking my other bands down from size 11 to size 8
I can see there is a 14k mark on one side but the other side has something that looks like "1 3 D 89" engraved inside the band.
Appears to be gold and white gold/silver, with 4 small diamonds/chips. It is rather old i'm thinking 89 may be the year, we found it cleaning out an old farm property in the country. There was a second to the pair, the actual wedding band but we did lose it

Any help in identifying the mark, also maybe clarification on what the materials and diamonds are. We did test the diamonds with a tester and they were valid, just not sure on the actual size here I know they are quite small
I’m looking for something gold. Most preferably a bracelet. If it could have some sort of green accent, some gemstone, or malachite, or even upwards to emerald. Doesn’t have to be crazy quality or price. I was looking at the 18k van cleef 5 pendant bracelet, but got scammed out. Now I would want something similar. Doesn’t need to be van cleef though. I would prefer a nice name brand, maybe designer so it keep value.
Thank you all very much.
I’m just wondering if anyone can or knows of someone who can effectively integrate string bracelets by girlfriend has made me with cold bracelets somehow. Thanks!
Hi all, I've completed a certification course and have a basic bench setup/tools at home, but my goal is to do repair rather than design and there are no jewelers near me that will hire/train me (there are actually no jewelers near me at all, I live in a very small town and they all send their work out to repair centers in DC or NYC). I'm not so big on the creative part, just the technical stuff. What can I do to get repair skills without working on other peoples' jewelry, AND something that won't break the bank? I'm thinking about seeing if I can buy some scrapped silver jewelry to restore?
Thank you in advance for any advice given!
