Hello!
I’m in the market for a 1970’s CJ5. No plans to use it as a daily driver, just a fun vehicle to take the kids for a spin and hit the occasional trail. I found one I plan on going to look at next week. It’s a 1975 with the 304 v8. It appears to be in good condition, but we all know looks can be deceiving with used cars. Are there any recommendations yall have for things someone new to this market should be on the lookout for? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!
Looking for a Jeep shop in Northern IL/Southern Wisconsin to rebuild my 1980 CJ5's drive train. T176, Dana 300, Dana 30 and AMC 20. Unfortunately, when I bought the Jeep to restore I had a bunch of room, I no longer have that luxury and the wife wants her garage spot this winter so I need to shop out a couple things to hopefully get them done quickly, installed and a rolling chassis completed before our first snow.
Hoping someone can help. All I can find are basically shops that cater to newer Jeeps and all they can do is install generic lifts, wheels/tires, fender flares, and some minor maintenance it seems.
Thanks!
was chatting with my coworker, and i bring up the fact my '83 cj5 laredo has no tailgate, just a spare tire on the back. i mentioned how i needed to find a replacement tub since the one i have is pretty rotten, but mention how i cant find a tub with no tailgate, just a flat back, online, save for fiberglass. upon asking him if jeeps with no tailgate are rare, he tells me they're quite rare. upon looking online, i've seen a few of them, and someone saying they came with the laredo trim package?? i'm really confused, are these as rare as my friend makes them out to be?
I’m in the market for another jeep. Any of you in Utah and have an insight as to where to look? Do any of you know any old school jeep shops I can get in contact with in northern Utah? I’m not on FB and can’t seem to find any jeeps for sale in online listings that aren’t ridiculously over priced and on the other side of the country. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have a 1980 cj7 with a 151 GM and a verajet carb. It boggs down in the mid/high rpm range (main issue) I've never touched the idle screw, and can't seem to find any info on other adjustment screws. Also strong gas smell when you turn off.
(Side issue) when it's hot (90+) and you drive it, after stopping for 20-30 minutes, and starting it again, it will stall at red lights for about 10 minutes. I assume this is a choke issue
1982 CJ Laredo, Curaçao 🇨🇼.
It was a chilly 51°F ride to work this morning, I'm not ready to put the hardtop back on yet though.
Working on the body now. Custom frame, LS swapped, built TH350 trans, Atlas, Superduty Dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear, stretched to 113 inches. About to stretch the tub 4 inches in the front and more in the rear. Double triangulated 4 link front and rear. 43’s. 16 inch coilovers…
Still lots to do…but it’s getting there.
I have a 1974 CJ6 with manual drum brakes, a small lift w/33s, and a straight six. I do take her up to 70 driving too and from the trails here in Nevada, and she sees her share of daily driving duties as well. I am tired of the drum brakes, especially how they don't work at all after getting wet, and I would like to hear about your experiences upgrading the brakes.
I already have everything I need from a '79 CJ to put disc brakes up front, and I plan on adding a brake booster, but I'm struggling to decide on the rear brakes. Currently I'm looking at three options:
Keep the drum brakes on the rear. This is simplest and cheapest.
Use Samurai rotors and 300z calipers to build disc brakes for the rear. This is within my skillset to build the brackets, and will cost an estimated $500 for all new parts. My concern is how well does the integrated parking brake work?
Use Samurai rotors and a matching caliper without the integrated parking brake, and add an independent manual caliper (like the Wilwood MC4). This is the most expensive, probably $800 for just the rear brakes.
I got the idea for rear disc from an old Pirate4x4 thread claiming it could be done cheap, but prices for the parts have clearly gone up. So, are rear disc brakes with the upgrade, and if so do the integrated parking brakes work? Or am I waisting time and money over the rear drums?

I had all my motor mounts disintegrate on a back woods trail recently. The classic valve cover oil leak is what weakened them I think. A sideways engine is not fun.
This isn’t going to be a show jeep, nor a daily driver. Just a weekend toy with very light off roading.
So, I’m rounding corners where I can. If I have to replace this in 5 years, that’s okay. But if I go so slowly that this jeep never gets put back together.. that’s a problem.
So help me decide if I tack weld and move on.. or replace with oem mounts.
Thx
