I bought this with just around 30,000 miles in 2016 and just hit 70,000 miles this spring. It has had this issue for the past year on/off of struggling to get up to speed where the RPM quickly increases irregularly. It’s often combined with the steering wheel and car shaking (it feels like the car is about to fall apart) Sometimes when I let off the brake, instead of the car naturally slowing down it will feel like the car just shifted into another gear, mph drops quickly, and the car barely moves when already at lower speeds.
Sometimes it drives with no issues at all and feels like the car I bought 8 years ago, but at random times after driving for a few minutes it will begin shaking. Typically the shaking will slow down as I take my foot off the gas and then stop completely once I am on the brake and while stopped, but it starts back up as soon as i’m on the gas again. I usually end up parking it asap when this starts, but I have driven through it longer than I would have liked to get home before and there has been times where it stops shaking during the drive. This thing is seriously so unpredictable and also feels really unsafe in those moments where it is acting up.
I have taken it in a few different times through the year to get it looked at and they have replaced things like transmission fluid, sway bar, rear struts/shocks, air filter, oil pan, tire sensor, and I got my brakes/rotors done and 4 brand new tires in the spring. I maintain regular oil changes and car washes.
Please let me know if you have experienced this or something similar and what solved the issue if you resolved it! Drop any wisdom you have to offer. This car is paid off and I am not trying to put tons of money into it to fix something that is inevitably not going to last much longer. Honest opinions appreciated in advance!! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
One of the levers on my wife’s pcm levers on her 2016 patriot broke and the terminal is still connected and there is no check engine light on or anything. Is this still safe to drive?
Hi all have a 2015 Jeep Patriot and first time just installed the snow tires for the winter, was told that after 100-150 miles I stood torque the lug nuts to be safe, any one know the ft/lbs to set at for my jeep? TIA.
i’m getting some bigger tires for my patriot through a trade i’m doing. i’m gonna start by lifting the patriot 2” and adding some spacers. would these be able to fit? obv there’s gonna be some rubbing but would it technically work
2012 Jeep Patriot, I have been the only owner bought it new. Has 127k miles on it. Have kept up with oil changes and other regular maintenance. On a recent 2 hr road trip my engine began over heating. I took it into a shop and they said the upper radiator hose was the issue. Paid for replacement but upon returning to my hometown began to notice a leak under car in my driveway. My local shop is now also diagnosing I need the valve cover gasket, timing gasket, and oil pan gaskets. They also recommend that if they are going to do the timing gasket they will go ahead and do the timing belt, pulleys, and chain. All this would be around $1800 total.
Just wondering if anyone has insight or personal experience with these issues cropping up around this mileage. If I felt some assurance that these repairs will get me another 1-2 years out of the car at least I think it’s a solid investment. But if it’s trending towards being a money pit or having to worry about breaking down on any road trip over an hour away then could be time to cut bait.
Anyone have any advice/insight? Would be much appreciated!
Does the polarity for a new block heater plug end matter? I swapped mine and while the ground was obviously green, the other 2 lines weren't coloured, I've read that since it's just a resistance heater it doesn't matter but my Ford's lines were colourd so I figured I'd double check, thanks.
I’ve got a 2015 patriot latitude and it was feeling really shaky on the acceleration so my friend told me it’s probably the spark plugs. We got to replace the spark plugs and it ran well for a second but then the light came on and it felt shaky again. Went back and tested the coils and found out the fourth coil was bad so he replaced that. Light went out and idle felt way better but I put it in reverse to test it and the shake is worse than ever and the lights back on. Any ideas?
I have a 2015 with the 2.4 and 192k miles, I’ve noticed it’s burning a substantial amount of oil. After replacing the PCV valve I burn about a quart a month. Would using a higher oil weight like 5w-30 instead of 5w-20 reduce this? Has anyone else used a different oil weight and will it affect the VVT?
I have a 2016 Patriot. I am very mechanically "challenged," so please bear with my ignorance. Anyways, late last winter, the heat stopped working. The air blows out as expected, but no matter where the temperature knob was turned, the temperature of the air coming out was a cool "room temperature." Not air conditioner cold, but cool. The air conditioner still works as normal, by the way. Since it was the end of winter, I put off getting it checked out by a mechanic until the weather started cooling off this autumn. Well, as the temps cooled off in October, I checked and the heat started coming out as you would expect when turning the temperature knob. Everything worked as normal. I thought I dodged a repair cost! However, it has stopped working again this week and is currently blowing air at "room temperature" again. Any ideas I can try before taking it to a mechanic? Just checking here before I make the mechanic call. Thank you for any ideas.
I have a 2009 jeep patriot that I love, but here are some reasons I don’t
Remember I adore this jeep. This is mostly for fun. if this list makes you feel like insulting me, you are part of reason 6
It is free to use the SiriusXM radio ?
Thinking of buying this Jeep patriot It has 102k mileage. And for around $5k
What should I look out for before buying or any tips ?
76000 miles. Was on Interstate, made loud noise and grinded to a stop (till i put in neutral and was able to move to shoulder). Will easily move into all gears, but will push against the gas and won't move. Any idea what and how bad it is?
I have a 2013 Jeep Patriot which has completely died. No dash lights when turning key to on, doors won't unlock together etc even with a jump start battery attached.
The Jeep has has a check engine light on and is broken down. When it was working earlier today it'd run for a second before struggling to breathe and die.
The battery was tested 2 weeks ago and was good but it'll be completely flat.
So the Jeep has been sitting there a few weeks with a flat battery because I can't get the car to run to charge the battery. Now it seems I've either blown a fuse, or damaged the battery or electronics by trying to start the car. Is that possible?
I knew the battery was drained, attached a jump starter to the car and it ran for about 3 seconds before dying and now no dash lights come on at all.
Just wanted to attach a scan tool to the car to try to get some codes but doesn't seem to connect via blue tooth because no car battery/power.
For background I think the underlying issue why the car won't keep running when I do actually get the car started is related to the air intake - maybe the throttle body.
This is because a few weeks back the check engine light code was intake air temp sensor, and recently when it broke down the throttle body light was on as well.
Any ideas on what I can do to get the car running? I want to try to get the throttle body out but it seems pretty hard to get to, like do I remove the battery etc to get to it? The air hose from the air filter box to the throttle body is hard to get to the end attached to the throttle body to even get that side off with a screw driver.
Found that it was resting on my exhaust area. All areas wore thru. Suggestions on how to reinstall? Saw some YouTube videos but…could use some advice. It’s a 2014 jeep Patriot limited…and should this be put back immediately?
Hey all, so i’ve replaced my throttle body. Did the relearn correct (i think) and i still had a check engine light on so i pulled out my reader, scanned it, saw it wasn’t permanent and got rid of it. Now the last two days my light is on but not in limp mode and it will randomly turn on the TB sensor light and i’ll lose all throttle control. I have no idea what i did wrong and i can’t seem to find the problem. The codes it’s throwing are that it’s either not getting enough air or too much. This car is my daily and my project car isn’t in drivable condition. HELP
My radio is finally failing (getting the 2 second delay pause on SAT, CD, BT, AUX), so I am looking for a basic radio replacement that allows the bluetooth(to play music from either Andriod or Iphone). I don't need a CD player, camera, maps, or what evern.
I been crutchfield and I was hoping to find something more with knobs instead of are touch screens(I have zombie finger syndrome).
Any suggestions is highly appreceated.
Hello, my girlfriends 2017 Patriot has a clunk/vibration when accelerating from a stop for 2 second looks to stop by when hitting 10-15 mph. Any idea on what this could be? I changed the spark plugs and ignition coils a few months ago and it stopped the vibrating while driving. Had the transmission fluid changed along with the filters also. But I do not know if the dealership changed both of them.
Been Looking for a nice car (4-8k price range) that would last me a couple years, I got this offer for the Jeep patriot from a family friend, with nothing wrong with it besides needing a catalytic converter replaced and has 120k miles on it. Is the patriot a car that is made well and would last me a while? Or should I keep looking for something like a Toyota that is made well but for a little more money?
My oil light turned on out of no where while I was at a stop. It was turning on and off until I started driving. It happened twice, not sure what the issue could be. Got an oil change about a month ago and just checked and still in the safe zone.
Whenever I go over bumps on the right side, or even potholes, the car makes very loud noises. I am thinking that the suspension system or struts need to be replaced. Would it be better to just. It the parts and have a trusted mechanic replace it. Any suggestions on where I can purchase parts for cheap?
What are the best parts to cull from a salvage yard? Everything seems to be working fine right now, but I as things go bad, what would you recommend having on hand to replace?
Just got a 2016 Patriot, FDI, 6-speed auto. Wondering if anyone has had experience taking one out onto the beaches of Cape Cod or the Outer Banks NC.
Any ideas what is the solution
