Why are so many fireworks going off tonight??
Does anyone know what the space on Roosevelt will become? It looks like it has been unused for a while now.
It is ridiculous that we have been working with either side of the 82nd St. station closed, for what- two years now?
They made minimal improvements to the Manhattan-bound side, and that took forever. And they didn’t even bother to update the public about the opening. Commuters just found it open one day.
Now they’re dragging out the completion of the Flushing-bound side, and just like last time, the last people they think to update about this are commuters.
To top it off, the station is nearly done, and yet, for the last couple of weeks, I have seen the construction crews idling on the street without actually doing any work.
They originally stated there would be a January 2025 reopening and the only update I’ve heard is that it is now expected to be in “the first quarter of 2025.” Enraging.

My elderly Mother would like to update her will, power of attorney and healthcare proxy. She lives in Jackson Heights and would prefer to see an attorney in or near the neighborhood since her ability to travel is limited. I can’t find any senior services for this kind of stuff so thinking she will have to fork it out for a lawyer. Any recommendations?
My building has been experiencing a lot of thefts of packages left in the lobby - often the packages are ripped over and the box or envelope just left there.
Does anyone live in a building where they have been successful at reducing or eliminating package thefts without a doorman or security cameras (which we are not installing for several reasons.)?
Hi everyone! I'm looking to collect anonymous memories about specific places in Jackson Heights, to create an interactive map where we can read about all of the stories that make up this special neighborhood. If you have a few minutes to share something about your life in this community (anonymously! no contact information is stored unless you give it), please answer the form below! (I've lived here for almost 7 years, in New York for over 20 years, and this is by far the best neighborhood I've ever lived in. I want to try to make something that captures its heart.)
I went to my first community board meeting at Langston Hughes Queens Public Library today (11/21) and I was ready to testify against the Metropolitan Park Casino proposal. I signed my name on their public hearing document to give 3-minute testimony and I was probably 7th or 8th on the list. After nearly 2 and a half hours of learning more about the proposal from casino sponsors, Queens Future LLC, and unexciting shoutouts from community board members, it was finally time for constituents to give testimony...except the board panel had a DIFFERENT list of speakers who nearly almost always spoke IN SUPPORT of the casino proposal. It was honestly embarrassing to see how easily constituents are swindled into thinking they have a voice when the board had already made its mind before we even showed up. Many of the folks who did give testimony had already been tapped by the Queens Future project directors ahead of this meeting.
Honestly, this experience has only made me more committed to being civically active in our community. It is honestly tiring to see how folks who do not have the full picture of the community's needs and desires are making decisions without proper testimony from BOTH sides of an issue. It was also quite ironic how they began their meeting preaching that we need to "agree to disagree" and yet preselected testimonials from people who ONLY agreed with this project. If anyone here was at this board meeting, please let me know your experience because I would like to hear from you.
In case you were curious about it, I tried out the new Wonder that just opened, and it was pretty good. Only got the lamb shawarma from the Maydan menu (Mediterranean), but I really enjoyed it. The prices are definitely a bit steep, and I said as much in my review (to get $3 on my next order). $20 for a lamb shawarma seems high, even if it were at a sitdown restaurant. So, I will say, be prepared for a bit of sticker shock. Especially if your bar for pricing is the neighborhood restaurants. It's probably better to compare it to a Manhattan eatery than to something like Raices down the street.
If you're going to get anything from the Latin restaurants' menus, you're better off just ordering from a local spot. But if you're hankering for something that you can't normally get around here, like Mediterranean, it's worth a go (no shade on El Toum, but I've tried giving their shawarma a chance like three times). Just be ready for a bit of shock at the price. To help, I used someone's referral promo code to knock $15 off my first two orders. Which, in the end mostly only covered the service fees, taxes, and tip. But it was something. I can't imagine having to pay $30 for that Shawarma delivery, though. So, perhaps it's best to use the promo code on a pickup order.

52 year old, extremely fit and friendly. But I was that guy in grade school and high school who literally ran the other direction when someone threw a ball at me. Looking to learn how to throw a football, baseball, frisbee. Sounds weird, I know, but I really want to learn. I want to be able to play softball eventually!!!! Anyhow, crazy request, but just wondering if anyone can help me out with a few lessons. If there's a charge, that's fine. Live in Queens but can get pretty much anywhere that's convenient for you.
Anyone know where to find duck eggs?
Anyone know a good spot I can get the whole salmon? I know they chisel the buyer a lot by selling fillets, but I don't mind paying a cheaper price and doing it myself, where around here can I buy the whole salmon?
Any bars opening on thanksgiving?
For when Trump declares a national emergency, sends the US army in to Jackson Heights, rounds up everyone who they think might be an illegal immigrant, all the street vendors, the sex workers, the day laborers, throws you into army trucks and take you to a massive detention facility and no one ever sees you again? Are you ready Jackson Heights? Cuz it is going to happen on Day One of the new Trump regime...
Does anyone know how to contact someone about the Joan of Arc Schools youth basketball? My daughter doesn’t go there but I think it’s an afterschool class. Any info would be helpful!
Hi everyone! I’m a freelance journalist working on an article about Operation Restore Roosevelt, aka Mayor Adams’ plan to crack down on $*x work in the neighborhood. The article will be included in a magazine edition centered around the theme ‘taboo.’ I’ve read through previous threads abt the topic and would love to get some sources of ppl in the neighborhood and get an idea of what ppls thoughts and experiences are in general abt this. I will also be exploring the rights of sex Workers and victims of trafficking in this article. I’m working on a tight deadline and would really appreciate any sources or leads (for general community members as well as advocates) Pls comment or dm if interested thank uuuu

My mom is getting older and has never been to the gym much. I recently moved her into a new building where there's a gym but she feels intimidated by it and doesn't know what to do. I'm looking to see if there's a local personal trainer that can help out here. She's Indian and her English is really poor, so someone that can speak Hindi/Punjabi/Urdu would be awesome.
Wasn't sure where to even look for this. If someone can recommend a better venue to search that would be amazing! Thank you.
I live around 34th Ave and 84th st and every morning around 6:25 am there is someone that yells outside. Has anyone heard it?
