Hi all, I'm fairly new to interrailing so forgive what may be an obvious question - is it advisable to book extra seat reservations in case of missing a tight connection?
I have a 20 minute change over in Brussels after the eurostar which doesn't allow much wriggle room in case of delays. Reservations are required for the next leg of the journey.
Reading previous threads it seems that missing connections are not the end of the world but I'm not clear on what happens if the next available trains are sold out. Also mindful that booking extra seats takes availability away from others.
Hi all, am a total novice at all this so please bear with. I've always wanted to interrail as I'm terrified of flying yet I'd love to see the world.
For Christmas this year I'll be visiting family over in Cyprus, from what I've seen it doesn't look like it's part of the IR/ER maps. However, I have see other modes of transport to get from mainland Europe to Cyprus with out the need of a flight.
I aim to stay grounded for the duration of my travel unless absolutely necessary, planes and flying just freaks me tf out. I can leave london via eurostar to paris/cologne but it's from there I draw a blank, I'm trying to piece together my journey but I'm finding it increasingly difficult and somewhat frustrating. I could be a completely simple fix that I'm overseeing.
Literally any help would be unbelievably appreciated, full travel plans, tips or tricks on the app anything that may benefit me on this would be greatly appreciated.
Hello guys , I am travelling to Europe during Christmas and had purchased Eurorail pass a few days back..I have created a trip and added my and my partner’s pass in the trip under RailPlanner app but neither of us have activated our passes..I also have already done seat reservations for most of the travel..Now Eurail is giving 25% discount on the passes..So can I cancel the old one and link the new pass without incurring any charges ? Will the seat reservations remain as is in that case ?
Also unrelated but had another doubt.. I did the seat reservations through my eurail account and I can see the reservations in my account for both me and my partner. But my partner’s account doesn’t show the seat reservations..If we have the reservation ticket pdf, will that be fine?
Hello! I’m really new to Interrail. I found it easier and cheaper to reserve seats on OBB, adding the interrail discount underneath my name. I ended up paying 15 euros for the ticket and reservation from Vienna to Rome, instead of 70€.
The thing is, now I have the ticket in my OBB app, where I can see my name and a nameless, adult companion(that has an interrail pass as well).
What is the process of validating my ticket on the train? Do I have to add the ticket to the interrail account in some way, or just show the ticket on my OBB app and then the Interrail pass to prove the discount?
If so, wouldn’t it be quite suspicious for my companion whose name isn’t even on the ticket? I just find it odd.
Hi so I’ve seen the pass is €420 for 10 days in 2 months, but I’ve done a lot of research and I can see that you still have to pay for the train and reserve seats so just wondering what the use of the pass even is? Like how does it save you any money?
I have a booking for December, traveling on NJ 425 from Bruxelles-Nord to Berlin Hbf, originally scheduled to depart from Bruxelles-Nord at 19:16.
I recently received a notification stating: “Please note that NJ 425 on 10.12.2024 departs Bruxelles-Midi at 18:07 due to DB construction work.”
This notification has left me with several questions:
I have also checked online timetables, including ÖBB Scotty, and they all seem to list the old departure times with the same note about the departure from Bruxelles-Midi at 18:07.
I bought a 22-day continuous Global Eurail Pass and have already booked reservations for the 1) Glacier Express, 2) Bernina Express, 3) Nightjet train from Vienna to Budapest, and 4) TGV from Paris to Barcelona.
Now, I want to switch to a 15-day Eurail pass valid over 2 months. If I cancel the 22-day continuous pass and purchase the 15-day pass, will it work? Since my reservations were made using the 22-day Global Pass number, will this cause any issues, or can I change the pass without problems?
What bedding do couchettes have included? I have booked the Chopin night train in January from Krakow to Munich. Do we need sleeping bags?
Hello, I booked a ticket from Venice to Saltzburg on December 22 at 09:56, I have recently received an email regarding a change to my trip. I am very confused right now as it states that my ticket is still valid? (even though the trip does not show up when i search for the journey)
Should I refund this ticket and buy another ticket?
or
Should I assume that this ticket will be valid on the day itself and proceed as it is?
or
Should I do something else (please recommend, all help is appreciated!!!)
(I will be emailing support regarding this as well)
Hello all!
I've spent quite a bit of time looking this up and have been unable to find a solid answer.
My partner and I will be traveling through Europe mid-December-January. We're looking at the Eurail passes now that they're 25% off. Specifically, between the 7 travel day 1st class or 2nd class pass.
I seem to understand that there are no real perks on 1st class, but I do prefer a quieter car and more room overall. However, the difference in cost, since most of our train trips are relatively short, doesn't seem to be worth it...
Unless we're able to reserve our seats in advance.
This is what is really confusing me as no-one seems to have a definitive answer. If we book the Eurail Global Pass 1st Class, will we be able to reserve seats on each train we need to book? Will it cost more to do so? Where do we book these seats? I've searched on Eurail, DB, OBB, trainline (and I can book seats for some trains without the pass, some sites don't accept the pass, etc*, which is why I'm confused*)
Also, are we able to reserve seats (for an added cost) if we book the 2nd class pass instead?
After traveling in the UK, I really have no desire to search for empty seats in 2nd class - I would pay more knowing exactly where I'm going to sit in advance (if this seems like a silly reason to pay more upfront).
Any help/clarification is very appreciated! Thank you!
I’m planning a trip from Berlin to Split from June 9th to June 25th, and I need advice on my itinerary. Here’s what I have in mind so far:
Berlin: 2 nights (I arrive early in the day, and I’ll probably visit Berlin later). Prague: 3 nights. Bratislava: 1 night. Budapest: 3 nights. Ljubljana: 2 nights (I plan to take a day trip to Bled, is it worth it or would it be better to stay in Bled overnight?). Zagreb: 1 night (Mostly a stop over for Split). Split: 3 nights.
I have 1 more night that I can add to any of these places. Is there anything you would change or recommend adding to the itinerary? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I'm going to be buying an Interrail pass during the 25 percent off sale but I'm going to be changing my name and gender on my brith certificate after the sale, will it cost me money if I buy my tickets now?
With 25% off on passes, first class doesn't sound too much more expensive. It may sound a silly question but what do you get by choosing first class? And if you choose it, do supplement payments for certain trains and reservations become more expensive too?
We are planning to do an Interrail for Sept 2025.
We are thinking to do a route through Scandinavia.
Which route do you think would be better: A) Copenhagen - Stockholm - Helsinki - Tallinn B) Berlin - Hamburg - Copenhagen - Stockholm C) Berlin - Copenhagen - Stockholm - Helsinki
We are planning to do a 2-3 weeks trip so any advice could be so good for us:
I understand that we buy it, but then how we can go up to trains? Any revision? We need to do any reservation?
Is it €1000ish a realistic budget for the trip? (we are young, -28 y.o.)
In case to go to Helsinki/Tallinn, how ferry goes (any reservation? We need to pay more?)
Are night trains good for these routes?
Is it the best season to go? (climate)
How many days do you think are good for each city?
Please, help us! We are so beginners!
Want to interrail for the first time and I'd like some opinions on my route and alternative suggestions. Would like to end the trip with about 7-10 days in a coastal Italian village or town, get the ferry to Greece (possibly Corfu) for 7-10 days and fly home.
Before getting to the Itailiant destination, I'm thinking London-Paris-Strasbourg-Konstanz and spending about 5 days somewhere near the lake. I was then thinking of travelling to Innsbruck and south through the dolomites to Bologna.
We would like a combination of high speed and scenic routes.
Does this sound good? Any recommendations for Italy? And how many days of travel would seem sensible if I was to buy a pass?
I'm looking at options of how to most efficiently get up towards Norway/Sweden and back again in spring next year, ideally on a 4-5 day pass taking around 2 weeks total. I have a vague intention to get to Tromsø at some point, but I realise that it's probably beyond the scope of the monetary and time budgets here. I do want to visit Keukenhof on one leg and I could happily spend a day or two around the Benelux area (probably not on interrail travel days). Open to ferries and sleeper trains, as long as I'm not sleeping through scenic routes, and equally I'd rather not spend a day on a non-scenic route where possible. I've visited a lot of the larger cities in this area before, so definitely open to smaller town recommendations en route.
My partner and I have 10 days next summer to spend slowly travelling from Krakow to Marseille with some days working and some days off. We know we want to do some hiking in South Poland but apart from that are keen to go to some places we maybe wouldnt otherwise have gone to (e.g. Genoa, Bratislava). We want to do the whole thing by train and ideally use a couple of night trains to maximise holiday time which probably means either Krakow - Vienna or Vienna - Milan. Do people have any recommendations (or routes to avoid!)
Have purchased 2 x interrail tickets for my partner and I which we plan to use next summer (June) to travel to Europe. Based in UK and therefore will be getting the Eurostar across initially. Any recommendations for where is easy to get to for first timers, but also nice and sunny, ideally beachside or lakeside with nice restaurants etc?
Essentially a relaxing summer holiday place but my partner doesn’t like flying.
I'm looking to get some passes for next summer, and with the sale now, first class seems like an option
Planning to visit Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and maybe finland. Is first class worth it? Do we get better seats and or services?
I currently study in Linköping, Sweden and I plan on visiting the following countries: Spain, France, Belgium (opt. Luxembourg), Netherlands (Opt.) Germany
I am not sure what would be best, to start in Barcelona or from near Linköping (like Amsterdam), because taking a train from Linköping to Amsterdam or so would take almost a whole day, so I thought maybe it would be smarter to fly to Barcelona and do the whole trip upside down. I have been to copenhagen and Malmö/Lund already.
If I go to Germany I might think about taking a flight back from Berlin maybe, it would make sense if it's cheap.
The whole trip would be about two weeks. And I think the 5 day pass should be enough, eventually the 7 day pass just to make sure?
Are there things I should defnitely see or cities/places I should avoid?
I'm not sure if I defeat the purpose of interrail by doing this...
so ive been planning a eurotrip leaving from my hometown (madrid) by train to go to barcelona, paris, london and do a loop to madrid again, but not through interrail, just buying individual train tickets. so i was thinking if it would be better to just buy an interrail pass and call it a day. please help me understand the benefits of the interrail program and if its the right choice for this trip thank you :) oh also im spending approximately 400€ on solely the transportation
I'm not from Europe and all this information about the trains specifics is making me even more confuse. I've already took a glance on seat61.com but I'm still kinda lost about this.
I'm doing a 25-day trip to Europe in february and idk if I should get the pass or buy every ticket individually since I'll be moving quite a bit.
For example: Berlin to Hamburg, Berlin to Leipzig, Berlin to Prague, Budapest to Vienna, Vienna to Bratislava, Munich to Salzburg and so on.
I'm expecting something like 9-11 travel days, some would be like day trips (Berlin to Hamburg - 2 tickets/day) and some will be direct like Berlin to Prague (only 1 ticket).
Any advices, I'm sorry I'm very lost here.
Hey guys,
I'm a resident of Germany and I've booked some seat reservations to go home to the UK over Christmas. However, I've realised after that there is a difference between the eurail seat booking I made and the interrail tickets I have. I booked through a third party site that interrail linked me to (b-europe). I have booked the correct trains in terms of leaving Germany and returning to Germany, however I have attached the wrong pass to the seat reservation. Is there a way to fix this? Does it need fixing? Any help would be fantastic thanks.
Is it fine to buy 1st class seat reservations from the Netherlands to Germany, even though it’s an Austrian company? They’re cheaper than DB seat reservations. I can also book through NS - the price is inbetween OBB and DB prices
What’s the best option?
Also, on DB I can choose the specific seats we’ll sit in. But on OBB, I just choose a ‘preference’ of a window seat/aisle seat. Are these preferences usually honoured? I’m travelling in April 2025 if that’s relevant. Thanks in advance!
Hello,
I have been planning my trip from Switzerland to Portugal for a few months now. Since I purchased the Interrail Pass today (Black Friday discount), I am checking to book my seats, and everything is going smoothly. However, I noticed that the connection Badajoz - Madrid - Abrantes is no longer available on the Interrail app or the SBB/CFF/FFS app, whereas it was about a month ago. On the CP and Renfe websites, the trains are listed.
Do you think these trains will operate as scheduled on these websites?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi. I am planning to go from Ljubljana (I am from Slovenia so this would be the one outbound journey for me) to Zurich and am wondering how many days would this "cost", thanks!
Hi all,
I have dutifully read through the wikis, spent hours on Eurail/OBB/SBB websites (as well as this subreddit) and I am officially stumped and hoping you can help!
I am trying to book seat reservations for my family of 5, but am continuously running into issues when trying to book. The OBB website simply said 'Service not available' even when I tried various different configurations of passengers etc, and the Eurail website said some of the trains might be fully booked. I am wondering if this is the case (given it's the holiday season), and are we really out of luck? 🥲
Hi All, I am doing my first ever Interrail (+Flights) experience over this Christmas into the New Year.
I would love to take your suggestions for must do activities or must see places to visit for the below dates as from my research it is hard to identify if particular experiences or attractions are open or available at this time of the year, so I would like to learn from your experiences.
Summary of days available :
To note: The dates above are fixed and cannot be changed any missing dates is dedicated to travelling and or already reserved activities so unavailable to alter.
I am excited for your responses as I am sure there are some cool things to do that I havent even come across!
Hello all,
Om trying to find tickets for June 2025, however i cant find them. Am i too early?
Thx in advance for feedback!
