Need help with an car insurance claim!!

I got in a car crash (first one so lost my no claims bonus)in March and had to claim off my insurance. [I live in Ireland by the way]

A month after the crash, the claim was settled, and my insurance company sent me an email saying I owe them 'surplus premium' of 1.6k for the claim because the claim happened on 15th of march. I renewed and paid my insurance on the 4th March (before crash), and my insurance policy was up on the 19th of march (4 days after crash).

So basically my insurance company are raising my insurance due to the claim and the fact that it happened before the expiry date of the previous policy. And asking me to pay the difference of 1.6k because of that fact.

The thing is, as i said, i had renewed the policy previous before the crash, received confirmation email, receipt and even had the disc up on the car.

Can someone please tell me that has to be illegal!! Shouldn't my insurance be going up next year? Everyone is telling me that they are just trying to get money out of me quick because they fear im going to change insurance company next year.

What should i do? Are they in the wrong or do I legally have to pay it?

Am I overpaying for term life coverage? (32m)

32 Years old in MO, USA.

Clean health record but got dinged for tobacco.

Purchased a $1m term policy until i'm 80.
Per the salesman, the total premiums for the policy will be $1.2m by the time the policy lapses. There's part of me that thinks i'd therefore be better off just stashing the premiums in an interest yielding account.

Timely Billing

received a bill today from a local healthcare network for a doctor’s visit in August of 2022. I have an explanation of benefits that shows my insurance paid the claim and I paid my co-pay.

I call and am told that my insurance kicked it back this month saying I was ineligible during that time. They are now saying I’m responsible for the full payment. My question is does this situation fall under the “no surprises act”? Google tells me that in Indiana medical bills must be filed within 120 days of service.

I called my insurance company and they told me that even though they kicked it back that I’m not responsible due to timely billing. I don’t trust this information.

The reason they kicked it back was because they just now figured out that my employer did not report my work status or pay dues during that time, which is another issue that will have to be resolved.

Can I add a non employee to our company health insurance?

Can I as the owner of a company add someone to company health insurance? This person is not an employee in anyway, except to say they volunteer at my company. It has been suggested to add their family to our insurance, but it doesn't legal or advisable to do so.

Car Insurance - two people in different states on the same vehicle?

I’m currently on my parents insurance and my girlfriend and I are trying to get our own plan so she’s able to commute to a job. That being said, I’m registered in Virginia while living with her in New Jersey. Am I able to keep my registered address in Virginia for remote work purposes (if my residency is out of state I’m at risk of losing the job) while still also having her (New Jersey residence) be on the same car? I already know I’m supposed to be registered in New Jersey at this point (when our relationship allowed me to move in with her - this complicates working remotely from my Virginia based company which is why we’d rather keep my drivers license based in Virginia) though is it possible for both of us to be insured on the same vehicle while I’m registered in Virginia and she’s registered in New Jersey? She needs to be on insurance for her job but I need to be a VA resident.

Update Bike vs Car- Year later

Original post- https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/s/DBFEmyhN1A

First- Thank you everybody that calmed our nerves, it’s been a stressful time having this to think about and being worried he was actually hurt

So all that stressing and freaking out was over nothing. Insurance called today and said they?(the man my husband hit passed away a few months ago) were only getting reimbursed for the hospital visit.

Insurance wont pay off total loan. What are my options for not at fault accident?

So my wife was in her car, when a bus hit her. The bus driver admitted to be at fault due to running a red light and the police agreed he was at fault. The insurance decided my wifes car would be totalled due to repairs being over the cars value.

But the issue is, the insurance is only willing to pay 4k, when my wife still owes 10k left on the car. She also does not have GAP insurance. Even though she was not a fault, is she now expected to pay off the remaining 6k, or is there some way to fight this?

I paid a copay and now I owe almost the whole bill

I had a neurologist appt a few months ago, I paid $15 at the visit. I thought that’s all I owed because they told me that’s all I owed. Now I owe $118. I asked why, they said “oh well insurance didn’t cover it all” but you said that all I had to pay was $15. I don’t understand why or how that’s allowed?

Stolen 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Electrical Damage Repair or Total Loss

My 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen and used to commit multiple robberies. The insurance adjuster said she’s never seen anything vehicle stolen like mine before. They added wires and drilled holes. It wasn’t a quick hot wire. They also did body damage to the bumper and right rear panel and door. The collision shop said it will probably have to go to the dealership to fix the electrical and take the entire vehicle apart. They asked me if I wanted it totaled or fixed… I’m struggling to decide what to do because I only have 26k miles on it, it’s 5 years old, my interest rate is 5.6% and will be paid off in 2 years. If I have them fix it, I worry it will never run the same. But then I worry Progressive will low ball me in a payout. In good condition, it should be valued around $21k, but the value will most likely drop 20-30% because of theft and repairs. My comprehensive deductible is also $2k. Does anyone have any advice on whether or not it’s smarter to have it repaired and keep the car because of the low mileage? Or should I let it go and move on?

I also won’t get anywhere near my current interest rate on a new vehicle. Also my credit has dropped because of financial hardship about a year ago. Thankfully, I live in a downtown metro area within walking distance to a grocery store, cvs, restaurants and bars. So I won’t need to buy a new car immediately and can work on rebuilding my credit in the meantime. It’s just hard giving up my Jeep that I spent the past 5 years investing into and I’m not in a place where I can go out to buy a new car. It’s so unfair because the only person that wins here is the criminals that stole my Jeep. I also don’t trust Progressive to give me the fair payout or have my best interest in mind. I pay them almost $4k a year for insurance and it’s unfortunate I can’t trust them to give me the fair amount on my vehicle or get me the repairs I need…

Any advice or similar shared experiences that would be helpful?

Auto insurance cancelled due to nonpayment

My auto insurance was canceled due to nonpayment. This is not the first time that that has happened and now I’m shopping around and I cannot find any auto insurance providers that will cover me.

Does anyone know of any other options?

I am still paying on the car.

Car Accident - Should I get additional estimates or trust insurance co.?

Hi, I was in my first car accident last week (USA). The other party opened their door into my side mirror. Witnesses made a statement on my behalf. Insurance adjuster (other party) has compiled an estimate of ~$2,600. REPLACE mirror assembly, window weather stripping assembly, quarter panel emblem, door upper molding. REPAIR clear coat, paint scratch. I don't expect significant "hidden" damage.

I've made an appoint with a shop who is "approved" to work with the insurer of the at fault party. Expected work duration is 5 days. I've asked for a rental car from the other party's insurance.

I'm concerned of the possibility that the adjuster's estimate may not match up with what the shop wants to do the job, and that I'll have to pay the out-of-pocket difference. Once my car is being worked on, I don't see how I'd have any leverage, especially if I've got a limited time rental car.

Should I get estimate from other shops to compare to the adjuster's estimate? If they are significantly different, I imagine I could contact the adjuster ahead of my repair appointment and let him know that his estimate is not in line with reality.

Or am I being overly neurotic?

Thanks in advance!

Advice!

I have browsed insurance quotes for my new car. It's old and used and kinda busted and I'm in the process of working on that. My quotes are in the $1000+ per month because I'm 19 and this is my first car, and I don't know if it makes a difference with being used. Anyways! I won't actually get my license until June, so I was actually very curious to know people's thoughts/knowledge. I can get insured with a permit, but I can't really find stable info on it it'd be smart to just wait until my license, and see if the price decreases a smidge. I want to be able to drive it for practice for my test and of course for other things, and I don't think it'll make it any better if I wait, so...thoughts? Also if anyone has any advice for the price in general, should I settle for $1000 a month? I specifically went for as cheap as I could when searching, but advice is a appreciated!

Third party disconnecting dashcam after accidnet!?

I got into an accident last night on a roundabout and the tp hit my rear passenger door when I was on the roundabout and he was coming from the left. He has disconnected his dashcam and claims it was never connected and says my lights were off. He took pictures of my lights off when my car wasnt starting as I have auto lights I cant prove it was working. There was no cctv or witnesses. Will it end up 50/50 liability as I cant prove his fault? What will happen when it goes to 50/50?

Insurance companies are quoting me $1800 a month for full comprehensive insurance, why is it so high?? i’m 23 rn and have been driving since about 3 years, 3 accidents in one year but two were not at fault and one was at fault (backed into a car a tiny bit at a red light while it was heavily raining)

Can someone help me determine how much I will owe from this claim?

I had an amazing insurance representative, but unfortunately her business was shutdown and our policy’s were transferred. I am having a hard time getting in touch with them and I really need help determine the cost of my roof repair. Here are the details:

Contractor price $10,288.84

Insurance check $5,518.46

Recoverable deprecation $2,703.93

Deductible $1,000

Replacement cost value (from adjuster) $9,222.39

Other info: Your policy provides coverage for your building and/or personal property on a replacement cost basis. At this time, the claim is being settled on an actual cash value basis. This means that depreciation has been deducted from the replacement cost.

Here is my math if someone can verify if this is correct:

(Contractor cost) $10,288.84 - (insurance payment) $5,518. Remanding balance $4,770.38

Submit a claim back to insurance for $2,703.93 would be $2,066.45.

  • my deductible of $1,000 would leave total out of pocket $1066.45 after all

Claims processed.

Is this correct? I’m sorry I’m so new to this and I’m not having much help.

Any recommendations on what to do after an insurance lapse? It’s been impossible to obtain car insurance. I’m so lost on what to do

Crashed my car on the last month of my 6 month policy. I was on liability. Paid what I owed and cancelled the policy due to the lack of funds to fix car. Car is fixed now it’s impossible to get insurance. I never knew this would turn into such a massive issue. Been struggling financially lately.

Car insurance for a college student?

Anyone have any advice on what insurance would be cheapest and best for a college student?

I cant drive at the moment because I had a seizure and my dad wont let my boyfriend use my car for lots of reasons the main one being its on his insurance. If i get my own insurance he cant say no because I own the car.

My boyfriend has a Canadian license but we go to school in America. Would that affect anything? He drives our friends cars.

Auto Accident insurance Question

I was in an minor accident yesterday, I rear ended someone. There was no damage to either car, so the man I hit agreed that we did not need to involve insurance. I paid him out of my own pocket $500 as an apology, as he insisted he did not want to call insurance/have my rates increased over something minor. I live in a city with astronomical insurance rates, and this is my first accident.

I have since discovered that he was driving for uber and was required to report the accident to them, so I have their insurance people reaching out to me. Even though there was no damage, I assume I am screwed re my insurance going up because there is an existing claim?

Thanks for any insight. I suspect I am learning an expensive lesson this week.

Help getting affordable auto

I have a freind who needs auto insurance for a car he just bought. He is being quoted around $700 per month for liability due to having had 3 accidents and a ticket in the last years. Is there anything he can do to get his rates lower. He is a blue collar worker with autism and there is no way he can afford that kind of rate. He is in North Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in 1985 and has poor credit.

Mold?

We had a major ice storm and tree branches fell on my shop roof. There is a soft spot under a 6x6 inch portion of roof above this. This white substance didn't appear until after the storm but insurance is saying that it was not caused by the ice buildup but due to long term water exposure. Can anyone help ID or give possible time frames for its development? Is it mold or something else? Thank you!

Insuring a Car in Florida that is *not* under your name?

Hi Ya'll, so I took over my moms lease (not officially, they just gave me the car, added me to insurance and I made all the payments) then once the lease was coming to an end, we decided to buy out the car. Since putting it on my name would constitute as a resale (and add an extra 10K to the cost), the dealer said just keep it under my moms name. I have been paying down the car loan and of course for insurance (it's my mom/dad on the policy with me added) but I have plans to move down to Florida from NY by the end of this year. Questions are - in order for me to get Florida insurance/quote/prices, does the car have to registered to Florida? And if not, am I able to get auto insurance on the car without adding on my parents as I read that in Florida you are allowed to take our insurance on a car that is not registered to you. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Options for non-operable vehicle that is not a total loss.

State Farm won’t total my car. I was in a minor crash back in January and the car has been at the repair facility since Feb. 1st. There is no estimated date for repairs to be completed. The part that is needed is on backorder and there no ETA on when that will be available.

I’m trying to total the car but State Farm says the damage does not exceed the value (which is interesting as they wanted to total it at first. . .little did I know the repair option would result in this).

I’ve researched the formula here in California. Cost of Repairs => ACV-Salvage Value

Are there any guidelines on how LONG a repair facility can have your car? Or how long State Farm has to repair a car? I mean I get a few months but no foreseeable completion date is ridiculous.

Any other options to consider?

Note: I already have another car so question does not pertain to getting it back as a means of transport.

CCCone report on totaled vehicle-can we fight the "fair" condition listed

Our 2021 Hyundai Tucson Sport was totaled in an accident about a month ago-other driver's fault. We both have State Farm insurance. The CCC one report came back listing the car as in fair condition. Car was actually in excellent condition or at least above average with very low mileage, no dings/dents, etc. We have provided comp vehicles in the area, however we understand that the dealer price is not equivalent to market value. State Farm has stuck with their original offer after we have sent them letters, comps, etc. There is no bodily injury involved so this is not a case an attorney has any interest in.

Wondering if anyone has experience with fighting the condition listed? We had no intention of buying a new vehicle so we are trying to get as much money in our offer as possible before accepting anything.

any information appreciated

Am I at any potential risk with my insurance?

Back in January I was driving into work and someone ran a stop sign, T-boning my car, and totaling it out. The other driver was cited, insurance ruled me not at fault, and life went on.

Last month a truck kicked up a rock and cracked the wife’s windshield. She was in a completely separate lane, but it was just kind of your typical unfortunate event. We made a claim through insurance since it is an expensive repair due to all the sensors calibrated with the windshield, and we needed the repair so she could get her state inspection. The windshield was just replaced yesterday.

Today the wife takes the car for the state inspection. She leaves the car with the shop and takes the kids next door to get them food. When she walks back to the shop she was informed someone left their car in reverse when they got out, and it rolled back into her car and smashed the rear passenger door. She got a police report and the guy admitted to the cops he left his car in reverse.

So now we are on our third claim through insurance in 4 months. Even though we were not at fault, are we going to run into any potential issues we need to prepare for with our insurance? Rates going up? Potentially being dropped? I haven’t had any insurance claims before January since 2010.

Advantages if attorney - Auto accident

I was hit yesterday, 100% other parties fault. I have minor injuries from airbags and imaginable pain. My car is a 2023 value around $95k. I have front end and rear damage due to cars spinning and rehitting after initial impact. Due to the model of car I have, I will likely be without my car 6-12 months. My guess is damage including interior airbag damage is upwards of $50k. If they don't total it, I will easily lose $10-20k in diminished value. I am already out a day of work, will likely be out today and tomorrow dealing with the logistics of all of this, I have an 11 hour flight next week that I cannot imagine sitting on unless I find the magic pill for this...

My question is, will other parties insurance likely be fair and fast in handling this (rental car, evaluation of my car, etc,) or is it better to get an attorney involved?

Travelers Intellidrive on iPad??

I originally installed the Intellidrive app on my phone and thought it was 500 miles OR 90 days, and I hit the 500 miles within the first two weeks, so I deleted the app. I got a text saying Intellidrive app wasn't working, so I called Travelers and they explained even though I had hit the 500 miles, the app still needs to track for the 90 days.

So, I installed it on my iPad, which goes almost everywhere I do, but sometimes does get left at home. Now it's not picking up my drives. Is this because it's on my iPad? My iPad has it's own line and data through Verizon, so I assumed it would work. Has anyone ever tried this?

Condo insurance

Much has been said about homeowners insurance becoming unavailable in many California areas. What about condo insurance? A condo owner is only responsible for contents inside the walls but the condo association is responsible for all the common areas and the buildings themselves.

If a condo policy is not renewable that affects the tens or hundreds of owners in individual units. Does the insurance crisis extend to condos or have they been able to avoid the uninsurability problem?

Contractor damaged my property due to his incompetence. Should I tell my homeowners insurance or deal with his insurance myself?

Contractor damaged my property. He filed claim with his insurance and I have been working with them. I havent told my home owners insurance anything about it so far.

What are the pros/cons of telling my home owners insurance? Would I have to pay my $5k deductible if I have my insurance handle it? Would they pay my insurance instead of a check to myself?

I’d like to know the pros/cons of telling my home owner’s insurance, thanks
