We are pleased to announce the formation of a new, staff dedicated, css themed community. We welcome you!!! Make the move to ###/r/AdobeIllustrator
Here's the reasoning:
People that still/will visit /r/illustrator will automatically be sent to the new sub, so we aren't really losing anything.
Since were are starting fresh; everyone will get a brand new feel for the new community. Instead of that old dead feeling (no offense).
Different format where we will allow anything Illustrator. (Trying to take a small step away from creating a sub full of nothing but questions)
By restarting at 0 subscribers. Only new active redditors will subscribe and the subscriber count will be more accurate. (Assuming most of the 6,000 subs /r/illustrator has are inactive, which it seems)
Changing the ways of a 5 year old subreddit wouldn't be an easy job.
Any questions, suggestions will be listened to. Just shoot us a PM!
Hey Reddit community.
I want to practice making Team Logos. Can you write a name at comments to help me practice. It is free, just for practice. You will get the logo.
Hey guys! Having problems editing out the background in my Illustrator file, and Photoshop leaves my image to pixelated. I've
-Created a frame
-placed on the work board, not image
-placed my image
-fit image to frame
-Used pen tool to outline
And here is where I reach a dead end!!! I've "shift clicked" but I cannot select the image and the outline. When I right click I just get the Copy/Paste bar but no "Clipping mask". If it helps when I click the image I have an orange box and a blue box which confuses me since one is for resizing and one is for cropping! I moved the image and my outline didn't follow so any guidance would be appreciated!

[Not a shit post, hear me out]
/r/illustrator is a cool place, full of cool people.. but the lack of
moderation active staff, the lack of css, makes it feel like an abandoned place. I mean, there's not even a sidebar.
(not bashing anyone here) The moderators: 4_4 has been inactive for several months, and mikewoodld appears to be very busy and dedicated to the other subs he moderates.
There are a lot of good designers here, a lot of eager newcomers asking questions. I'm honestly not trying to steal the steam from this sub, but I want to create an active fully supported community dedicated to Illustrator.
I have a strong start; I want your guys honest opinion.. is there anyone out there wanting this also? I have the base laid out now.. check it out.
We should all move over there.. I will appoint moderators, recruit more members elsewhere.. we can get a real community going!!
Illustrator needs an active/mod supported community as /r/photoshop does.
Edit: I decided that "staff" was a better word than "moderation". There's not much to be moderated here.. but having a dedicated staff is always nice :)
I am horrible with illustrator, slowly trying to teach myself.
Is there a way to delete the background which is outside the skateboard sillhouette?
See here for what I mean:
Thanks in advance for the help :)
EDIT: BONUS/SIMILAR HELP -
I want to delete the black parts (AND BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT DELETING THE WHITE PARTS LOOKS LIKE, so as to make it show the "GRAIN" bottom layer. How do I do this? Does this make sense? Reference photo below:
The frustrating thing is I did this before, both ways (Black section of logo as wood, white section of logo as wood) but couldn't retrace my steps properly. I re did it because I wanted to re position the logo, but it cut out from the "SCROLL" layer permanently so I had to start from the beginning again. THANKS AGAIN!
Here's an example: http://imgur.com/amwy3VG
I want to delete the very small section between the "N" and "V", also between the "M" and "V". I basically want a gap between the V and the other letters.
How do I achieve this?
I'll try to keep this short.
I recently have been sending illustrations to iStock that were created in Photoshop. They've been rejected for the following reason:
"Some shapes in your file have rasterized and are not rendering as editable vector objects. This can occur if you've used effects that are not supported in your EPS version (such as drop shadows, transparent objects, glows, etc in AI8 or lower), or are exporting gradient fills from software other than Adobe Illustrator. Please ensure all data in your file exports in an editable vector format.
This file contains non-vector elements (i.e. linked JPEG or TIFF files). Please ensure all data in your file is in a vector format. "
Does anyone know a work-around to get these files saved correctly or how to go about doing this?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Here is an example of one of my illustrations: https://i.istockimg.com/file_thumbview_approve/68361813/2/stock-illustration-68361813-grandma.jpg
I have an image with the size of: 80 cm x 15 cm. Saved as AI.
I need to export / resize in JPEG 800 cm x 150 cm, with 100-120 dpi.
How can I do that?
I am trying to learn illustrator and am using CS5. The goal was to create a heart and align small circles around the top portion of the heart with a bigger circle on the bottom of the heart.
So far I have created the heart and 10 small circles + 1 big circle. The big circle I could align on the bottom center of the heart using aligns to key object.
The 10 small circles I have put above the heart by hand, by the spacing in between them is not equally divided among all 10.
How do I align objects around the top of a heart?
I'm editing a social network map which is in a circular layout. Some of the connecting lines curve between nodes within the circle (good), some curve outside the circle (bad). http://imgur.com/ro13wrW
I want the latter to curve inside, but the anchor points need to stay fixed where they are. Is it possible to reflect the curve of the path and leave the anchor points unmoved?
I bought this safe http://graphicriver.net/item/metal-safe-with-combination-lock/11622545 And I want to be able to animate it open, but as it is build up now, I cant. Simply because the door and the front frame is the same layer. Is anyone fresh on helping me seperate this layer? Skype: bertel98
Ive been looking for a way to convert a shape into a dot-to-dot puzzle similar to this one.
I've downloaded a script that allows me to place a circle shape at each anchor, but was wondering if anyone could help me automatically add the numbers to the puzzle too. I have very limited experience in coding scripts myself so any help would be appreciated.
The final puzzle will have more than 500 points so I would rather not manually add the numbers!
I am trying to make cribbage board lanes to be laser engraved on a piece of wood. I made one in sketchup but sketchup doesn't make true arcs so that it won't work. I'm comfortable with photoshop and sketchup but clueless in illustrator. In sketchup I was able to turn an object that was repeated frequently into a "component". I could then edit the component once and all instances of it in my layout would be updated to reflect the changes. SmartObjects in photoshop could be used in a similar manner. Is there away to do this in illustrator. I can't find any reference to smart objects in the menus. Thanks.
So I often run into an issue where I am trying to close two paths and make the end cap look nice, and I always end up with a wonky end-cap monster...
Does anyone else have this issue, and is there a sure-fire way to make a good looking curved end cap?
EXAMPLE HERE :) http://imgur.com/HIn66yc
Any advice or pro-tips are much appreciated!
Hi, Im creating a wedding invite for my wedding and im trying to find the font that is used on this one. Im going to use it along with the touch type tool to hopefully create something my fiance will love. Any help is greatly appreciate!
Hi Wondering whether anyone else has had this problem. Just updated the Illustrator cc to 2015 and now when I use the star tool and want to change the number of points on the star by using the up and the down keys instead of changing by one point it jumps from say just a three point triangle to a 10 point star, without allowing to go in between... and basically the same thing is happening with the number of coils in the spiral tool.
Thanks in advance!
Adobe Illustrator CS6:
When I make a line with the brush tool or a squiggle, or anything, the line changes from what I drew to something ever so slightly different than what I originally had.
It also thickens and thins wherever it wants along the line, and also fills in curves with black filling.
I remember changing this and fixing it around a year ago, but now I don't remember how I did it. All I'm looking for is a nice, consistent black line. Thank you for your advice, all!
How do I wrap a text around a curve without having it warp on me? Effect > Warp > Arc and the Type on a Path tool both make it look wonky.
Im having a problem when I draw a new shape or try to add text it automatically draws at this angle. Imgur I have closed and restarted Illustrator but still happening. Know whats up?
I am trying to recreate this image of a diamond as a vector. http://cliparts.co/cliparts/8Tx/rKk/8TxrKkngc.jpg
When I try and do some of the corners I am getting overlapping strokes like this.
Even though there is either a path join or the paths are directly on top of each other the stroke doesn't follow the angle of my joint.
(As a side point, It would also be helpful to know that why this image has kind of pixelated edges when I try to reduce its image size in photoshop by adjusting the image size.)
I've never really used Illustrator, but I'm determined to learn. I would like my first project to be of creating myself like GTA art (like this: http://img00.deviantart.net/00e9/i/2013/307/e/c/gta_v_fan_art___david_by_daviddimitridolce-d6slq1p.jpg)
Does anyone have any steps or a tutorial I could follow?
I have a screenshot of a floor plan.. I want to be able to edit this and move the walls etc around.. If I use the trace function It traces all the lines of the image which is great! But they are all grouped together so I cannot rearrange them.. how can I get it so they are all individually editable?
Sorta new to illustrator and not sure what to call this effect to be able to do a simple google search so I figured posting on here would have faster results.
At any rate I won't beat around the bush. I'm looking to not have the white solid or dotted lines in the image from the intersection of paths...
I recently looked up how to delete excessive paths from two different intersecting paths which involved selecting them both, grouping them, expanding appearance, making a live paint and expanding that. (Noob alert - not entirely sure what 'expanding' means.)
Anyway, I selected the extra stroke ink and deleted it. Now I have these dotted and solid lines which I don't really like to look at. Would like a clean black intersection between the two. I haven't used AI much before but I'm fairly fluent in PS and other programs for several years. Just haven't had much of a reason to use AI.
Thanks for and help or constructive criticism! :)
Edit - Don't mind the background pixels it's a reference photo :P
