My son is considering joining Rochev Shamayim. He is a lone soldier, and we had agreed he wouldn't serve in a combat role. I understand that this unit is technically classified as combat, but not in the traditional sense. Can anyone provide insight into how dangerous this unit is, particularly given the current situation?
We made Aliyah about 4 months ago and I have a19 year old son who has good Tzav rishon in a week. How long from the Tzav rishon till you get recruited?
I am an only child and will be drafting in the next 2 years. I've been training extremely hard for the past year and will continue training extremely hard to do well in Yom Sayerot and get Gibbush Matkal or Shayetet. My parents aren't exactly thrilled with the idea of me drafting at all, let alone going to combat. However, they have no idea that an only child needs their parent's signature to go to combat. Every time I've talked about my service with them they've told me something to the effect of "Even if we don't agree with it, you're an adult and can make your own decisions." I think that if they were do find out there is a way for them to stop be from drafting / going to combat (by not giving their permission to the army), they would do it. I saw on the army website that if you don't have contact with one parent, you don't need that parent's signature but still need the other's. If I can prove that as a lone solider I have no contact with both parents, can I get around the parental concent requirement? I've set my mind on going to combat and there is no universe in which I don't make this dream a reality. I just need to figure out what the best way to get around this obstacle is. Your responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
So I want to go into a combat unit, the problem is I’m an only child, I heard there’s a volunteering document my parents should sign so I’m able to go to such units, but when should they sign it? Before tsav rishon or would it be after?
Hi guys,
I’m drafting in March, and was looking at combat roles. I’ve got a good 3 semesters of medicine down, so my top pick was combat medic, but since it seems to be a lot of sitting around, I wanted to look into other combat units as well. Is it true that women can draft as combat soldiers to kfir? I’m considering kfir, magav and obviously combat medic. Any advice or experience with those units?:)
.
I’ve finished the course at Michve Alon, and I’ll be drafting to my combat unit within the week. I have a question for those who finished Michve then drafted to combat: Do you think that Michve gave you an advantage in comparison to people who didn’t do Michve? Was your draft to combat easier than those who didn’t go to Michve?
So I’m wondering if anybody who was in the same situation than me can help me, after doing Aliah your tsav rishon date gets automatically set up for a year after that date, I have the option of filling out a form saying that I want to do it before that time, wich I plan on doing, but would that actually make it faster? I have about 5 months left to that initial 1 year date, by filling the form now, would I be able to do it before that? Or as it’s close it would just be on that date?
Hey guys, I have a draft date to one of the 5 infantry units after tomorrow, on Tuesday. And Im contemplating if I should push it off because of my injury. Basically I got injured last week, did an MRI and turns out I have some inflammation on the knee joint, and light damage on the ACL (and PCL). Now I don't think I need surgery, my case seems to me only a matter of time until it heals (prob 3-8 weeks). But I'll have to be very careful not to put any load on the knee (eg. running).
Do you guys think I should proceed with my draft and basically do nothing for the first month? (Will I get recycled to the next Machzor?), and can I rely on the army to pay and provide me with physical therapy and an MRI to verify that everything will be healed up?
Or should I push it off? And deal with it in my home country where I know the system better and won't have to sell a kidney just for the MRI? I'm also concerned because I'm drafting trough Mahal, and I already pushed off the draft once (because of another injury), so I'm afraid that they won't take me seriously, and won't let me draft again if I cancel this time (my madrich really wants me to draft now and his saying that it's fine: I will do gimelim, but I don't trust the army that much to take care of me).
From one side I really want to do the army, and don't want to risk not bring able to draft. But I also don't want to destroy my knee because the army doesn't care that much. What do guys think?
Just weighing my options because I want a clear goal in mind as I train for Yom Sayerot. I think Matkal is +3 years (and maybe the rest of tier 1 are too?), no idea what tier 2 is like (maglan, duvdevan, egoz, lotar, etc.) +1 years or no added time? Makes a big difference in which unit I aim for, so if anyone has any info please lmk.
Has anyone here been in dover tzhal? What is the culture like or its reputation? What do u think are the main differences of the chevreh in dover tzhal vs modiin
Is the Garin village in ranaaana also like a kibbutz or is it just a section of apartments? How is it diff than being on a kibbutz?
Does joining Garin Tzabar hurt chances of getting drafted into a sayeret? I’ve heard mixed things and was wondering if anyone has any info on this, and if they know someone who was drafted into a sayeret unit from Garin Tzabar. Hoping to go for a tier 2 or 3 commando/yamas, or lotar. Appreciate any advice.
My profile was lowered from a 97 to a 64 and קשיי הסתגלות for mild depression because of my move from America but I’ve gotten better long before I enlisted and have notes from a psychiatrist to prove so.
Currently in the process of raising my profile back since it takes 3 months of being in sadir but once I’m done I was thinking of filing a tofes 55 and switching to shirion. I know on paper this looks like a dumb decision because I have great conditions now, the milium for technicians is fairly short, and my Mom and gf both said they’d go and say I sell drugs if I go to Kravi but I can’t handle nearly 3 years of ticking boxes on the same preflight/post flight checklist. Does anyone know of my chances of my tofes 55 getting approved? My commander said he’d vouch for me.
What is michve for allergies in camp 80 like? How many people go? How do you get there? What time do you need to be there? Etc
Is there a bus for all of them? Can i drive myself? What about for basic training?
All the regular Israelis got like 2k more in their tlush but mine is the regular 4k, any idea why?
Im currently 2 years in Nachal, been to Gaza for the past year, going to West Bank next month, probably will be there for the remaining 8 months of my service. Im already thinking about security/private military career/jobs after service. My dream was to be in SF or commando and didnt make it like alotta people. Even after a year of combat in Nachal I still have that crazy itch to try to get to special forces. 8 months of service time is not enough time to try and move anywhere without signing more time on, which I dont want to do. Is there anywhere after the army that seems right for me? Magav? Yamam? Misrad HaBitachon? Anybody been through this or gone down any of these paths?
I'm currently planning on asking for 55 as i want to move to מג"ב, but im almost a year into my service and im super worried about not receiving מג"ב as i don't want a normal חיר, is it there anything i can do or is it hopeless?
Ive got my Tzav Rishon in January, im told by Meitav all I need to bring is my Tuedat Zehut and a filled out medical form. Ive seen other advice online about what to prep. Any advice for the day please and what to expect from personal experiences, I know what is supposed to happen. I am oleh chadash. Thanks all.
More specifically, those that were part of Egoz (including all Oz brigade) or a gadsar like gadsar golani… Are these units “elite” enough to have a foot in the door for the private-security/private-military sector?
Curious about this.
So, I’m an עולה חדש, I made Aliah a bit more then 6 months ago (although I’ve lived in the country previously on a Visa), my question is, it’s likely/possible for me to join an Intelligence unit in the Army as a foreigner? If yes, where I can find more information about these units? I’m also an only child, so would that either benefit/drawback me in any way?
I am starting a three year B.A at Tel Aviv University this year. I want to make Aliyah and draft when I finish my degree in summer of 2027. Since I will be 21 when I finish, I would like to draft immediately after graduating as to mitigate the age gap between me and the people I will be serving in as much as possible.
But, I also want to do Yom Sayerot with the hopes of getting Gibbush Matkal or Shayetet.
Hypothetically…
Let's say I make Aliyah the summer before my final year of university, do Yom Sayerot and gibbush matkal or shayetet during the academic year. I get selected for a unit that drafts multiple times per year (I know elite units draft once a year in November), and one of those drafts is before I graduate from university. Will the army let me do a later draft date so I can finish my degree? I’m basically trying to work out if I can make Aliyah and start the drafting process while I’m in school, or if I have to wait until graduating to make it work.
Also on a somewhat unrelated note, will having a academic degree and almost fluent arabic help my prospects of getting into an elite unit or does it not really matter?
Thank you so much to everyone who responds!
Hey I’m living in Israel at the moment (have not made Aliyah yet) and want to draft. I will be 26 in February. I spoke to someone today who gave me the run down of what to expect, but I could not retain most of the conversation as he spoke very fast.
If someone in here has drafted after 25 (from within Israel) I would love to talk to you.
אתם מכירים סיפורים של אנשים שעשו יום סיירות אחרי הגיוס או פשוט החליפו את התפקיד? קבלתי יחידה שאני לא רוצה וזה באמת עצוב וחבל
Do you know stories of people who did Yom Sayarot after enlistment or simply changed unit? I'm a lone soldier, came here to enlist and got a unit I didn't want and it's just really sad and a pity.
