AI DETECTORS THINGYY...Has anyone been a victim?

Mine is just a concern,IB probably knows that some people can generate the IA's /Tok and EE in a few hours and get done with it all. My question is,,,have you witnessed people's work being flagged down by the IBO because of such AI malpractices. If you haven't been a victim, what's your take on this. Please share,

Hey everyone, im a M25 student currently in DP2, and I’m really struggling with my studies. My grades have been terrible, and it’s starting to feel overwhelming. I haven’t passed at all since starting DP1. Here’s how it’s been going so far:

  • DP1 Finals: 13/42
  • DP2 endterm: 17/42

I’m panicking because my mocks are in January, and im so unprepared,i haven’t started any of my IAs yet. my grades are way below passing, and I feel lost about how to improve and also i need to start applying to universities soon, and I’m planning to apply to Australian universities through diploma programs(as my grades arent so good

I really need ur advices on how to improve my grades quickly, managing time for IAs and mocks preparation and tips for applying to universities with my current situation or any success stories or strategies from people who’ve been in a similar position.

I’m scared and feeling stuck. Any help or guidance would mean a lot to me. Thanks!

How important is senior year in IB?

I know college apps are due before second semester in your senior year, so I’m curious on how important your senior grades and IB exams are?

Math IA??? How????

I am in AA SL, I started my ia a while back but I am completely stuck now. It was due on 4th but I managed to get an extension, my teachers are absolutely 0 help they keep telling me to refer to other IAs to get it done with, but my topic is something I came up with independently (also I find looking at someone else's IA and writing the same thing again but slightly changed is unethical). I've written an introduction and one method but I have no idea what to do next, I really need some guidance.

Urgent Math IA AA Help Needed (due on friday)

My math IA is due on Friday and I don't even have my research question yet. I thought of maybe doing "What is the optimal volume of water in a bottle to maximize the probability of successfully landing it upright after 40 flips?" But I'm not sure because of the human error involved. Chat GPT gave me the idea to analyze how heart rate recovers to resting level after exercise and model it with an exponential graph. Idk what to do. Please Help!!

Is asking my ToK teacher for a letter of recommendation OK?

Hi, I am applying to US colleges for STEM majors and I have good letters of recommendation from my STEM teachers. However, I see that some colleges strongly recommend that you send one STEM and one humanities letter of recommendation (in the case that they accept only two). The humanity I take is Geography SL and I could ask my teacher to write something but really I dont think my relationship with him is the best. I trust my ToK teacher much more but given it is such an unconventional subject I dont know if its a good idea. What do you guys think?

Save My Exams ARCHIVE (Resources)

The 🏴‍☠️ IB team has dropped an archive of savemyexams. The full text of the details can be read below:

“📣 Attention comrades!

⭐ We are excited to present you with our lastest resource: SaveMyExams Archive!

We have tried our best to preserve the original functionality 1:1. This was mostly achieved but not completely, so some small parts might be broken. Note that this took a huge amount of effort, custom scripting, debugging... and a lot of time, so please be thankful. Any broken stuff you notice, no matter how small, please report to us by email, but keep it constructive.

https://smearchive.pages.dev

That said, SME is a great resource, way better priced than RV (70 usd for all subjects during 1 year - and you can share it), so if you have the budget, consider buying it to support the creators.

🐛 Bug: If you reach a 404 page you'll get an infinite loop to /dp. We will try to solve this asap, but for now, if you encounter this, just make sure to close it quickly.

Fixed SME Geography SL notes, both the index page and the inner styling, both were caused by faulty CSS. Please email us if you find some major bugs in the site or pages that are broken.

Btw, we're working on providing an offline version of SME Archive so you guys can download. But it will take some time because there are too many images and we're trying our best to exclude the nontrivial ones. Also bear in mind it will be minimum 9 GB (the current version is 13).

We have as well all the downloadable PDFs scraped, and the current blue download links will be replaced by selfhosted ones soon (we'll also include these on the offline version) 😄 And we'll classify the notes and update the SME Notes folder from the 🏴‍☠️IB repo 😎”

Chem IA - how to propagate uncertainty

My research question is Determining the activation energy in the hydrogen peroxide variation of the iodine clock reaction, by analysing the rate of reaction at different temperatures (298K,303K,313K,323K), how do I propagate my uncertainties if I calculated the activation energy using an Arrhenius graph?

Does (Chem/Physics) IA research question matter, if report is done well

So kinda but the title but my chem and physics IA research questions are fairly simple. they have a good ammount to analyze i think i just think that overall they are pretty simple procedures. Will that impact my grade on them if my anaylsis and report is really good or shoud I opt for a better research question. tyyy

Hey guys, need some help with what courses I should take next year!!! Thanks :)

Hey :)! I'm a sophomore who needs advice on what classes/pathways to take next year!

#1. I can either do the PLTW Biomedical program which would kinda decrease my class rigor because I would have to double up in my Senior or Junior year which would stop me from taking other classes. Another problem with this is that I would have to drop IB Spanish 5; my counselor doesn't recommend this.

#2. I can drop the PLTW program and do the IB Diploma program, which would fulfill all my needs and course rigor. However, so many students told me it was literal torture, so I don't know guys ahhhhh I'm gonna cry! Furthermore, I'm not sure if I can get college credit for Math HL (even if there was I would probably not get it lol :P)

If there are any other paths you guys recommend, please let me know!!!!! (thanks for reading)

If I do PLTW Biomed

11th

  1. PPS (required for PLTW pathway)
  2. P.E
  3. IB English or AP Lang
  4. AP Calc AB
  5. HBS (BIOMED course)
  6. IB Bio or AP Bio
  7. IB History

12th

  1. PPS (required for PLTW pathway)
  2. IB Physics
  3. AP Calc B/C
  4. IB History
  5. IB English or AP Lit
  6. Medical Interventions (BIOMED course)
  7. Biomedical Innovations (BIOMED course)

If I choose the IB Diploma

11th

  1. TOK (required for Diploma)
  2. IB Spanish 5
  3. IB History
  4. IB English
  5. Math HL
  6. IB Bio
  7. P.E.

12th

  1. TOK (Required for Diploma)
  2. IB History
  3. IB English
  4. IB Bio
  5. Math HL
  6. IB Physics
  7. IB Psych or Anthropology or my counselor said I could simply do another AP course!

DP1, Sem1: Extremely devastated

Hey guys, M26 here.

I sincerely apologize if this comes off insensitive but my DP1 Semester 1 grades are going extremely bad. I am devastated at my performance and I have a few questions regarding point improvement, study resources, and subject-specific advice.

Currently I have a 5 in Eng Lit and Lang, Global Politics, Art, and Maths. As for 6, D&T and French.

These total up to 32/42, in which the issue is that I am aiming for 37+. It also doesn't help that my main subjects I want to pursue in the future are Global Politics and English, in which I am explicitly aiming for 7s. Realistically, I do not know how feasible this may be anymore.

If possible, may I please ask for study advice or success stories regarding both the feasibility of point/general scores improvement and specifics of French, GP, and English?

Thank you so much.

Burnout?

What do you guys recommend to tackle burnout? I’m usually a pretty good student and I’ve finished all my IA’s and extended essay, but impending mocks have me rushing to study everything so I don’t have to cram it all in a week before they start, and recently I’ve had zero motivation to study. I’ve been skipping classes, skipping the gym, rotting in bed all day doomscrolling. I’m usually not like this and I’m worried, what do you guys suggest? The mere thought of studying for mocks, especially maths, has me feeling nauseous

Is it realistically possible to do all past papers for your subjects?

I wanted to begin going on the grind. But I realized that with 2-3 papers per subject, two sessions a year (may and November), going back 20 or so years, its looking a lot longer than I anticipated

What's the most important thing to do in a Physics EE?

Hi everyone. I'm considering doing my EE in Physics and I was wondering what the most important thing to do in a Physics EE is. Also, how complex does the research question and experiment have to be in order to get an A?

My Advice For the Extended Essay

As a DP2 who finished extended essay and knows many people who have, here's what stuck out to me the most (the EE doesn't have to be that bad!!):

  1. Research a topic you actually care about and find interesting! Yes this is generic but I cannot stress this enough it's the difference between enjoying the EE and it being a living hell.

  2. START EARLY -- work on it over the summer in DP1, start implementing your feedback the second you get it. No the essay isn't as long and daunting as people make it out to be from what I've seen but you will save yourself so much stress and time.

  3. ASK for help, your supervisor is there for a reason, don't take them for granted.

  4. CITE! Don't put off adding in-text citations, don't put off making your works cited list. It is very exaggerated that you need to have all your research done before writing the EE, realistically a lot of people will add sources during the process. BUT don't wait to cite them it will be so tedious and unnecessarily annoying, just do it!!!!!

  5. STRONG first draft -- one round of written feedback! I know so many people who slacked on their first drafts and were left with useless feedback about weaknesses they were already aware of. You only get once chance to get your supervisor to properly read your EE so make it worth your while, make sure the content is great and worry about the nitty gritty LATER.

  6. Stick to what you're good at, this kind of ties into my first point but doing the EE in a subject you're actually very capable at will make it so much better. No need to make it harder for yourself! Don't do something just cause it'll look better on your transcript/ make you sound smart or cause your supervisor told you to do it. (ps: come up with ur own idea!! ur the one writing the essay make sure its interesting to u!)

  7. IT'S NOT THAT BAD! Don't be put off by the length of the paper, most people I know didn't spend a whole lot of time doing it, or didn't even work on it during DP1 and still wrote enough and did well. Do not worry that you won't have enough content, as long as your question is good you will have plenty to talk about, almost everyone i know found it difficult to stay UNDER the word count.

  8. REFLECTIONS -- don't neglect them! Ask a language teacher or your supervisor for help writing them. These are such easy grades to get and they could be the difference between a B and an A etc.

  9. PROOFREAD SO MANY TIMES -- because the EE is so long, nobody's writing it in one go obviously, and also you see it so many times that you don't really question if its cohesive. Read it as a WHOLE more than once to make sure it is actually fluid and well structured, remember the person reading it only knows what you tell them! Just cause it makes sense to you does't mean it will to other people.

  10. ENJOY :)) -- (again!!) the EE is your one chance in the IB to get free reign over your work. Take this opportunity and write about something you really care about and are willing to dedicate your time to. I wrote my extended essay about something I really like and it honestly felt more like a passion project than a piece of coursework. Obviously it still sucks but I loved writing it and I learned so much!! I'll take any opportunity to talk about my EE! So many people I know absolutely hated this essay compared to the absolute love i have for mine. So choose wisely!

Sorry for the length, as brief as I wanted to be I really wanted to articulate what I think matters most for the whole process :).

If you have any questions about the EE process specifically for English A please message me! I'd be more than happy to help (my EE is predicted to do quite well i'm not js waffling 😭). Also willing to just give general advice about the DP as someone who struggles with long-term projects and time management.

Math IA

I hate the stupid Math IA. It feels so unnecessary, especially when I am not even HL. All the other classes I am okay with. I take science-based classes so doing experiments and writing reports on that was nice. BUT THE MATH IA IS JUST ANNOYING.

like why do i have to write 20 pages about some stupid thing thats not even remotely interesting to me. why does math (as a class) need this?? i have never seen this in another education system, and i have been through A LOT. i just hate it, and i feel like it will bring my grade down (and i normally love math, like its fav class).

sorry for the rant. my first draft is due soon and ive barely started and i literally cant bring myself to even look at it BECAUSE ITS SO BORING.

Question about a subject

My French teacher has pretty much finished 100 pages of Panorama Francophone 1: French ab Initio for the IB Diploma. I was wondering if that’s normal, because I don't understand anything in French, and she just flies through it. Ps: I'm in IBDP1 and about 2 month has passed. What should i do?

EE suggestion

I am a DP1 student and ive heard a lot regarding best subjects to choose for EE, so far no one recommends an EE on one of the natural sciences and i was thinking about doing one in biology but i am also thinking about doing one an EE on English L&L, would it my EE subject affect what i might possibly want to study? i would like to study medicine in the future, should i just go ahead and keep my EE subject within the sciences?? any suggestion, tips or personal experiences would be appreciated :)))

Hi, I need some help with coming up with my line of inquiry for my HL essay. my texts are the short stories by Dima Alzayat. my first chemistry exam (SL)

im in dp1 and we have the semester exams. my chem teacher is a bit eccentric and basically told us the exam would reveal our true abilities, like those who get 7s regularly in practical works and extended graded assignments might get a 3 in the exam. we've done two in-class tests before and i got 6's both times. BUT im really scared😭 i am literally so bad at natural sciences and i need some tips on revision materials and maybe some word of encouragement😭😭 when i look at the revision questions literally nothing comes to mind 😭 oh and did i mention my whole worry stems from the fact that i dont trust my teachers grades, he kinda has a reputation for giving rly high marks for in-class work

workload: IB vs Singapore Unis

Hi, I am in second year of IB who is looking to apply to Singapore (specifically NTU). I heard that the Singapore education is very demanding and students there get very high levels of stress because of exams and quantity of work. I was wondering if the IB workload was comparable to the Singapore workload.
