Hey Everyone, I'm conducting some research on how hostels in British Columbia foster a sense of community among young travelers, and I'd love your input!
Could you spare a few minutes to fill out this short survey? https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/BCHostelsenceofcommunity
Sharing this survey with others who have stayed at BC hostels would be a huge help!
Your answers will be incredibly valuable ❣
Have a list of hostels that look good but wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for hostels in Marrakesh. I want to find some that have trusted tours specifically with desert tours or camel rides. Just seeing what’s possible and if anyone has any good ones? I’m getting there on a Saturday and leaving Tuesday
Because of them i am doing passive smoking which i dont want to . And i get headaches. I tell them close room doors and do it but they dont because they say they need ventilation otherwise they will die. But what about my health. This is my college hostel. If i tell sir then i might not be able to live on good terms here. I close my room door but when j want to sit outside in the hall or make something in kitchen i could not. What do i do. They also do cigarettes and this has become like alternatives day things.
So I'm travelling SEA with 2 friends and was just wondering if most of the time when you book a hostel do you all get put in the same dorm? We'd be booking for all 3 of us from 1 hostelworld account. I'm just worried 1 of us could possibly be separated. TIA
I'm looking for a unique and eye-catching name for my hostel that resonates with travelers. It should be simple, memorable, and meaningful. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone! I'm planning to open a hostel in the old town of Tangier, Morocco. I'm completely new to this and driven purely by passion. I'd love to hear advice from experienced hostel owners—what are the key factors that make a hostel business profitable? If you could start over, what would you do differently? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
hey guys, i’m traveling to lisbon in a few weeks and there are sooooo many hostels with great reviews. I am between Yes! & Home, I think I read somewhere it’s the same owner(?) I definitely want to meet people but I am less of a party person. Does anyone have opinions on either hostel & have advice for me? Thanks 😀
This sub is about travelers/backpacking hostels. Please create a different sub for the very different topic of dormitory/hostel style places to live that there is obviously a need to discuss.
Perhaps r/hostelliving, r/hostellife, r/indianhostels, or something like that.
All posts about the living category hostels will be removed.
Thanks!
Looking for Riga hostel recommendations which are central and clean, thank you!
Hello. I'm looking for hostels similar to OneFam. (Social Hostels that offer day activities, night activities like pub crawls etc...). Basically nice Hostels in which you can meet people in the day and go out with the group at night if you feel like it. It's also important that they accept volunteers because I'm planning to travel as one. P.D.: I know OneFam is in multiple cities but I already visited all the cities they're in. Thanks!
I am moving to a hostel for the first time What are all the supplies i will need?
hey im sorry this might sound dumb but i booked a reservation for an upcoming trip on hostels world and the whole price ( 64€ )was taken away from my card but it still says that only 9€ has been paid and the rest is “payable on arrival at the property” does that mean that i will have to pay when i get to the hostel or what im confused? thanks for any answers
edit : it has been fully paid and i wont have to pay anything upfront thank god
I’m thinking of booking a trio to Rome next weekend, I am 35 f and am travelling alone, is there any hostel recommendations for a older solo female traveller? Thanks!
I came back to the hostel room in the evening. A new guy had moved in after all the others moved out. I stayed here yesterday and I’ll be staying for another night before checking out. I guess the guy smoked weed inside because the whole room stinks of weed. What am I supposed to do? I think this is absolutely unacceptable, and whoever smoked weed in the room had no sense of courtesy whatsoever, but it’s also my last night here
Hi everyone,
I recently had my worst hostel experience in Paris and I’m hoping to get some advice or hear if anyone else has gone through something similar.
I'm 25/f and currently living in London. I travelled to France this month and arrived at my booked hostel, The People Nation on 10th July, around 2 AM, exhausted and ready to crash. The hostel entrance required a keycard to access, and initially, I didn’t notice the sign on the door stating, “For check-in, please call a WhatsApp number. xxxxx” I tried pushing the door, and the receptionist immediately saw me and opened it from the inside.
I greeted and thanked him politely, but he responded with a very arrogant attitude, scolding me for not reading the sign and saying that pushing the door could break it and I would be responsible. I apologized multiple times and promised not to do it again, but he remained condescending, repeatedly emphasizing that I could have broken the door.
Feeling uncomfortable, I explained that I didn’t push the door hard, just tried it, and I had seen the sign and was about to call the number. I had already apologized and felt his attitude was unnecessary. He became extremely defensive, argued that I was wrong, and even threatened, “Do you still want to check in or not?”
After I completed the check-in and got my keycard, I expressed my discomfort about his behavior and the unfounded accusations again. To my shock, after a few exchanges he just said, “You are not going to stay here tonight. I don’t want you to be here, that's it,” and canceled my booking on the system, making my keycard invalid. When I asked what rule I had violated, he couldn’t specify any. I said I would call the police, and he nonchalantly called them himself.
The police arrived, but only one of the three officers spoke a little English, and I could barely understand French. Communication was difficult. I don’t know what the receptionist told them, but the police told me I had to leave as he had the right to refuse me.
I was left in the middle of the night with nowhere to go. The receptionist promised a refund, but I haven’t received it yet. I’m planning to contact the hostel management for a full refund for sure, but what's more important to me is that I feel so unfair and don't know if there's any additional compensation I could ask for.
Does anyone has any thoughts or advice? Any tips on what I should include in my email to the hostel? Also, what would be a reasonable amount to request for compensation?
Thank you so much!!!

Hello, all. I hope whatever time of day it is in your region, you are having a pleasant day. I'm booked into the Circus Hostel in Berlin from 3-5th July. Has anyone here been? If so, tell me about it! I've stayed in hostels before so I know roughly what to expect. Also seen something about a David Hasselhoff museum in this hostel...
I'm hoping to spend next summer in Australia and wondered if anyone has any advice on the best way to go about it? At first, I thought about trying to get a job at a hostel so that I cold get my lodging covered. Now I'm wondering if I should just book a private room in a nicer hostel for a month or two and pick up a serving job or something. Any thoughts?? Also, what city in Australia is the best to visit? And what's the weather normally like June-July since it's technically their winter time? TIA! (-:
Having a good flatmate can be complicated, because even if you're a nice person, they may try to take advantage of you. Roommates can also depend on luck, so if you're lucky, you'll find a good one, but if you're unlucky, you might not. ………
Has anyone been there before? What was it like? Things I should know? This is my first time going to a hostel and I am not feeling very comfy about it
The chick in front of me threw water at me and woke me up. It took everything in me not to get up and beat her ass up. I’m still up now; I let it slide as I now sometimes I can snore loudly. But I’m also not the only person snoring in here. Gonna try to sleep again and if I get water again I’m throwing my whole yeti cup of water at her and going to the front desk. She has ear plugs as well since some kind stranger gave us some!! Can’t wait for my flight back home.
Accidentally booked the wrong dates on a hostel room at Backpackers Dusseldorf, can’t get a refund but didn’t want the room to go to waste.
Pm for me details but looking to give this away as I’ll already have left Europe by this point.
Hello everyone,
I will be travelling to India next week with my friend. We are two women who want to stay in a budget friendly clean ho(s)tel.
I was recommended Zostel. it is in Paharganj but it seems fine. Is it really crucial to be away from Paharganj to stay?
What would you suggest at a comparable cost? We don't want to be away from the center either.
The other option we heard is the Vivek hotel.
Thank you!!

I will be in Porto and Lisbon for one week each in July and I'm looking for a clean and social hostel for both but my main priority is good wifi and a seating area where I can take the occasional zoom call. I work ET hours usually so I may need to get on a call in the evening time and am nervous I wont be able to.
Thanks in advance!!
