OOTP Question

Why, on God's green earth, didn't they practice unforgivable curses. Clearly the room of requirment doesn't alert anyone to what's happening inside, so why tf wouldn't you practice curses that would help you kill the very people you're planning to face? Is it a culture difference or something? I'm a PJO kid and didn't start the books until this year, and am on book 7 now and they're finally kilking, so I'm so confused atm. And with how Morphos uses a knife during the memories in book 6, if really makes me feel like they should be carrying secondaries. Every time harry stunned a DE in the ministry I couldn't help but think he needs to kill them while they're not a threat, it would have helped and probably saved Sirius tbh.

Do we think quidditch is possible with strong magnets?

I understand a lot of people believe that physics is the reason quidditch doesn’t exist. However, instead of using motors or some type of jetpack, what if we used magnets.

I think it would be possible far into the future, however it probably would be possible now with magnets, although it wouldn’t turn out the way you would imagine it.

The entire field would be just made out of a large strong magnet.

You wouldn’t be able to fly up and down, you would just hover a few feet above the floor.

Rolling and moving methods would in theory work, and probably bouncing on the magnetic field for higher flying, but I’m pretty sure that it would take years to learn.

I’m also somewhat certain that control wise, it would be opposite to what’s described. I believe that having a magnet on the underside of your broom, and leaning forward, would cause you to fly backwards, not forwards. This would make it feel unnatural, but still.

The broomstick market would be extremely pricey, with new models coming out every year supporting better aerodynamics, stronger magnets for higher flight, lower weights for faster flying.

We can’t perfect it without actual magic, obviously. Ideally, it would turn into horse racing type of play style, similar to how jockeys are picked for how small they are, because they weigh less and therefore they wouldn’t weigh the horses down.

We still wouldn’t be able to figure out how to fly up and down.

Do you think it would be possible sometime soon in the future to create quidditch with magnets or would it be better with motors/some type of jetpack function?

If Harry Potter was remade, what changes would you add? I know the show is being made but like if it was written today or like the show that will be made probably in 2025.

I love the series but most people agree that there were so many problems like the world building, the magic system, and other stuff.

I want a TV show called "The Dursleys"

Where Dudley finds out as a father his kids (fraternal twins) gets their Hogwarts letters and has has to call Harry and the gang for help. They end up in different houses and causes all sorts of problems.

Can someone tell me--in the books, did Harry get in trouble for using spectumsempra on Draco and carving him up like a Thanksgiving turkey?

Why was Crouch Sr acting so out of his mind in that scene with crumb and harry in the forest?

Surely imperio doesn't make you go out of your mind like that? Was it an act? In case anyone needs a refresher, I'm referring to the fact he was talking to trees thinking he was at the ministry "Send an owl to dumbledore giving the number of durmstrang students" etc, then would freak out at harry "I must see dumbledore!" I suppose fear of being followed could have him losing his mind? What do yall think.

POA soundtrack

Love all the movie soundtracks, but I'd say POA and HBP have the best ones

These tracks especially from POA are so good:

  • A Window to The Past (this one is my favorite HP track probably of all time)
  • Hagrid the Professor
  • Double Trouble

From HBP I'd say 'Harry and Hermione' and 'In Noctem'

How Would You Rewrite Harry Potter?

Really, how would you rewrite the series? Specifically, if given full creative liberty on rewriting the series, up to and including changing main plot points and even books, what would you do?

I know this question is subjective, since different people want different things from a story, but I can't help but wonder what others think! Since growing up - and perhaps more importantly, starting work on my own original story - I've come to realize there a lot in this series that I both love and hate. Heres some of my own opions to get us started!

First, what I love about the series:

- I love that we get a unique world set inside a more modern one! The fact that the Wizarding World is a world that grows alongside the mundane world is really interesting and allows for a lot of historical questions.

- I love that we get more history beyond the main characters time. We get to know about Harry's parents, and theres so many hints about a life outside of Harry's own.

- The fact that theres this kind of overarching hope to the series. After Harry defeats Voldemort he gets to continue his life, and I think thats amazing.

Now, onto some things I would rewrite:

- This is a completly personal opinion here, but I would write the story in 1st person. It's my preferable method to writing, because I feel like I can get more into a characters head this way. Again, thats just what I think, and I know you can get into someone's head in 3rd person, but I tend to struggle with it. Considering we have a single protagonist character and its mainly his story, I feel like this is a good change.

- I would sprinkle in a few different teases to later books. The author - yes I know her name - didn't do this because she was writing as she went, which is understandable, but I do know where it's going and can do this. Specifically, I'd do this in very subtle ways. Have Hermoine mention when the three are searching for Flamel that while she didn't find it she found, "A rather interesting book that talks about the properties of polyjuice-"

And then Ron cuts her off. This is a good way to intigrate this really quick before the next book.

- This is a nitpick, but I'd remove the first chapter - "The Boy Who Lived" - and replace it with the second - "The Vanishing Glass" - or, at the very least, change them to fit better. It's honestly a bit of a personal preference here. It also adds some more mystery, as the reader will be just as confused as Harry - although we'll have a bit more to go off of, such as subtle clues - right until he learns he's a wizard.

- I'd also add another class to the first year roster. "Introduction to Magic." This is a bit of a strange one, but the class will be noted by Dumbledore at the begining of the year because the normal teacher is out for personal reasons for a while, and someone else has to replace them. I'd use this as a way to intigrate future characters. A good example is that Remus Lupin could have been the teacher for this and he comes back later in an organic way to introduce him. I thought of this because it doesn't make much sense to me that Dumbledore would let Remus go on the way he did, since having a werewolf on his roster seems pretty helpful. Then, him coming back would be pretty interesting and have a lot of lead up. But that brings its own can of worms, like who the 3rd year DADA teacher would be.

- Go into more depth with the House Elves and Goblins, even if its just a brief mention of them.

- Give some kind of mention that Phoenix tears have healing properties. And just in general refine CoS. I think it'd be cool if instead of Snape it was Flitwick who was the second dueling club professor. Or maybe have the Introduction to Magic teacher - wether it be Remus or someone else - come back this year and have a bit of a rivalry with Lockhart.

Now, we're getting into the big guns....The Prisoner of Azkaban. To be honest, this is my most hated and one of my most loved books in the series, and not for the reason you might think. As someone who wants to be a writer, I LOVE the angst in this book. But...Some of the stuff here is just too strange for me to wrap my head around.

- First, I'd love if Harry took something different, but this could also be fixed by giving us some more of the stuff we didn't learn about before. Maybe give some hints he can build upon in the Triwizard later on. Like learning about mermaids. I'd also like it if Alchemy was another option on the class list, just because it was mentioned previously. Harry doesn't have to take it.

- Have more bonding moments with Remus, especially if he's not the Introduction to Magic teacher. If he is, he should still have moments but he doesn't need as much since he's been around longer. I'd like it if he and Harry had a serious talk about Harry's parents. Maybe Remus still has some of James old things. Maybe he was also a friend to Lilly and has some of her stuff too. Honestly, I really just want it so Remus can be called "Remus" and not "Lupin".

- Remove Time Turners. I feel like they're unneeded and kind of redundant. It feels like a cop out. I have a few ideas on how to replace the scenes including them, but it might involve some messing around to do.

+ First, depending on how we know Remus, he may or may not remember his potion. If he doesn't, it plays out like in canon. If he does, then I think Snape should wake up and that leads to Pettigrew accidently escaping. Remus, of course, would have to rush off either way since he'd still turn into a werewolf, it's just that in one version he'd have control of himself.

+ If theres still a dementor scene, have Snape show back up but don't reveal its him. Have Snape cast a patronus and Harry freaks out because thats his moms patronous! Or, other option, just have Harry cast it without thinking it's his dad.

- It would still end the same way, though, with Sirius having to go into hiding and Remus resigning from his position at Hogwarts. Although, in the alternate version its in part because he and Sirius have a lot to overcome.

- In book 4, continue Harry's original progression. He beats the tournement through some help, but also through his own knowledge and skill.

Book 5 is where it gets wonky. As a rule, I don't really like prophecies. Outside of Percy Jackson, that is. But even more than that, I feel like Harry Potter didn't need a prophecy. He's already been set up (in book 3) as wanting to get revenge for his parents and Voldemort already has good reasons to go after him, since he's the only one Voldemort has failed to kill. So I feel like removing the prophecy, but book 5 is literally all about the prophecy as the main plot. So I don't really know what to do with this one. I feel like an original plotline might be best, but we could also move up the plot of The Half-Blood Prince. But that might cause some pacing issues.

Anyway, there is more, but this is already pretty long, so I'm just gonna stop here. What would you guys change? Do you agree with anything I said? If not, why?

Was Dumbledore a good Legilimens?

If so, he could've read Quirrel's thoughts if he did have any suspicions about him, right? Same with the fake Moody, but did he ever suspect him?

EDIT: I'm not sure why I framed the question in the title like that, obviously he was a good Legilimens, being...idk..the most powerful wizard of their time, lmao🥲 My main question was about why he didn't use it on Quirrel and 'Moody'

Peacock Version of Deathly Hallows

Am I crazy or does the deathly hallows part 1 on peacock have extra scenes added in? There’s a scene of petunia talking about losing her sister, and another of a death eater at hermione’s house. I’ve watched the movies on HBO plenty of times so curious if it’s just peacock.

Recherche vidéo humoristique Harry Potter

Bonjour ! Merci beaucoup 😊

Do you consider Voldemort scary?

I'm not sure if it's because of memes I've seen over the years making Voldemort do "Shakira, Shakira!". But I'd consider the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who more scary than Voldemort.

Who were the ghosts in Hogwarts?

I want to know who the ghosts that always roam Hogwarts were? Like who the heck was Nearly Headless Nick and what was his back story? And who was that one ghost who always "broke" through the glass window while riding his horse? (I am questioning the ghosts from the movies, but I'd like to hear about ghosts from the books as well).

Bound by Scales - a dark Harry Potter story.

Can't recommend this enough!

Bound by Scales - a dark Harry Potter story.

Hermione Granger, who wants to use knowledge to change the world.

Ronald Weasley, who wants to finally be free of his family's shadow.

Harry Potter, who wants to be great, to be admired, to be free.

When Voldemort rises he doesn't find an old man and a couple of do gooders.

He faces a witch with a brilliant mind and no taste for mercy, a wizard that delights in bloodshed and manipulates people like he moves chess pieces, and the broken, bloody boy that's won their loyalty.

Communication in the wizarding world

There are quite some ways for wizards to basically "teleport" themselves (apparition, floo powder, vanishing cabinets, magical toilets... probably even more.

Yet they can't send letters other than by owl??

I know that technology like E-Mails doesn't work in the wizarding world, but clearly owls cannot be the most convenient mail of sending post? It would literally be faster to just apparate and put the letter in the mailbox by yourself...

Harry Potter and the Burden of Sacrifice

I've recently read through the red rising series by Pierce Brown and it got me thinking of an alternative version of HP where harry realises he may have to do horrible things to finally destroy Voldemort and prevent the rise of the death eaters. In this version, instead of remaining true to the "light" side, sacrificing himself, using only disarming spells etc, Harry had the realisation that the only way to destroy Voldemort, the only way to win, was to do the unspeakable.

Below is a short exerpt of Harry's revelation. I know it may not be everyone's cup of tea but thought that some may enjoy.

The fire crackled in the Gryffindor common room, casting long shadows on the walls as Harry sat alone. Everyone else was asleep. Even the portraits had quieted, their usual whispers and murmurings replaced by silence. He stared into the flames, his hands gripping his wand so tightly that his knuckles were white.

He had tried everything else. Mercy. Kindness. He had begged and pleaded with people to see reason, to choose another path. He had given second chances, again and again. And what had it brought him?

Death.

Cedric. Sirius. Dumbledore. Hedwig. The list of names was burned into his memory, each one a weight that pressed on his chest and threatened to suffocate him. And still, Voldemort grew stronger. His Death Eaters grew bolder, cutting through the world with fire and blood. Every step Harry had taken to avoid becoming like them had only given them more room to wreak havoc.

He had always believed that goodness would prevail. That, in the end, light would triumph over darkness. But the truth was far more brutal. Light didn’t win because it was good. Light won because it was ruthless. Because it was willing to burn brighter, even if that meant blinding everyone in its path.

Harry ran his thumb along the length of his wand, his mind turning over the thoughts he had buried for so long.

“They’ll call me a hero,” he whispered to the empty room, his voice trembling. “But heroes don’t do what I’m about to do.”

He thought of Hermione and Ron, of Ginny, of everyone who still had a chance at a life free from this nightmare. A world without Voldemort. He thought of the innocence in their eyes, an innocence that hadn’t yet been entirely shattered.

“I can’t protect them by being better than him,” he admitted aloud, his voice thick with anger and sorrow. “I can only protect them by being worse.”

He closed his eyes and let the fire’s warmth wash over his face, as though it could burn away the shame clawing at him.

Tomorrow, he would cross lines he had sworn never to cross. He would speak curses that tore at his soul as much as his enemies. He would look into the eyes of those who begged for mercy and deny them, not because it was right, but because it was necessary.

The fire flared suddenly, the flames leaping high as though in answer to his resolve. Harry stared into the inferno, his jaw tightening.

“I’ll carry the weight,” he said, his voice steady now. “I’ll become what I have to be, so they don’t have to.”

For the first time, he understood what Dumbledore had meant when he said that love was Harry’s greatest strength. Not because it made him good, but because it made him willing to do the unthinkable to protect those he loved.

The boy who lived had died long ago. Tomorrow, a different Harry Potter would rise. One who knew that sometimes, to defeat a monster, you had to become one.

Do you have your own idea of a character in the story?

Hello everyone. I am listening to the audiobooks again, with Stephen Fry's vocal talents, of course, and I wanted to see whether others have done similar in past (or present).

I consider myself to have compiled a large library of lore in my brain over many years, and I always imagined I had a character who was in the overarching story, working behind the scenes, contributing in a small part to the story. Of course, the character can't be meta - with the same knowledge and understanding that we do.

In my mind there was a very old lady. A Scottish pureblood, but from a line that has since become extinct in the male line, who married a pureblood from a similar line but with more international connections (therefore, perhaps not known by Nott - re: Sacred 28). She is older than Dumbledore, perhaps more a contemporary of the likes of Bathilda Bagshot or Griselda Marchbanks (I decided perhaps born 1837), a former Hogwarts professor, or semi-retired maybe, of Ancient Runes. My thoughts are she was involved in magical academia and perhaps had a prominent role, because of her academic excellence and international contacts, similar to a civil servant, at the International Confederation of Wizards. She was a supporter of Dumbledore from early on, during Global, First and Second Wizarding Wars, and I imagined she maybe stood in during Shacklebolt's caretaker government as Head of Magical Law Enforcement, until an election could be held. After which she would retire to spend time with her large family, doing baking and other fun with her young (goodness knows how many greats before it) grandchildren, writing her series of reference guides and textbooks for ancient runes. She would visit Hogwarts regularly as a guest professor on occasion and to access the library restricted section for her research, until age prevented it. Passing away peacefully at the age of 201 in around 2038-2039.

Anyone else got a similar... Thing ... On the go like that or am I alone in my delusions? 😂

I'm late to the party but I just watched Order Of The Phoenix for the first time and it psychically hurt me....

It's nothing like the book😭 I was so excited to see the book come to life.. How did this get approved? They cut so much and they cut all the best parts and they just rushed through it.. I would be so confused if I hadn't read the book.. Damn that experience really sucked after reading such a good book..

Yeah, this is just an emotional support post..😭

Why is no teacher talking to moaning myrtle??

I‘m currently rereading HP2 and I‘m asking myself, after Myrtle died, and stayed as a ghost, why wouldn’t the teachers talk to her about her death, what she saw etc. also why wouldn’t her family insist on visiting her(something I would do if a family member died and I had the chance to still see them)

Wandless magic is just wizard sign language

Hear me out! So the incantations for wanded spells are like latin or derived from it at the very least, yeah? So what if wandless spells you have to sign the word or have signs derived from certain meanings to do a spell? The movements are just as important, at least initially, when casting as the right pronunciation is. So the reason why only really powerful wizards can do it in the west is they can just brut force it and make it work, but in the African wizarding school they all do wandless magic from the get go because they’re just teaching gestures instead of pronunciations. Handsigns or movements instead of incantation and sound. Like Naruto in a way I suppose.

What if the Death Eaters kidnapped the Dursleys as a way to draw Harry out of hiding?

HBP scene that really annoys me

Currently watching half blood prince and I forgot how much ‘the lightening struck tower’ scene enrages me. In the books Harry is immobilised by dumbledore and is helpless to do anything. In the film he’s just… there… hiding away… not helping… not reacting… ugh. Doesn’t this bother anyone else? And then the lack of battle at the end of the film. Yes I know, they didn’t want it to feel repetitive with the battle of Hogwarts scene in the final film, but it just felt anti climactic. And the big revelation that snape is the HBP. If you haven’t read the books, it’s like who even cares?

Least favourite film adaptation for many reasons
