I've recently been updating a few parts in an old PC build. One of the new parts is an i7-4790k, which should work with my motherboard, but requires a BIOS update to version F6 (Currently on F2).
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z87-D3HP-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios
Its my first time updating BIOS and I'm looking to clarify the process and avoid bricking my motherboard:
- Can I go directly from version F2 to F7? Should I only go to F6?
- Do I need to update anything other than the BIOS (Chipset drivers, utilities etc)?
- Process would be to update BIOS with my current CPU, then install the new CPU?
- Anything important I should know that would be excluded from the motherboard manual update process?
Thanks.
I have 4 sticks of RAM in this motherboard (32 GB). The computer has worked fine for a decade.
All the sudden, the PC isn't booting. It cycles till it hits error code 32, then restarts.
The only way to fix it, is to remove a RAM stick, then boot with 3, then turn it off, put the 4th RAM stick back in, then boot it again. Then it boots up fine.
But if I power it of, then it goes back to cycling to the error code, and I have to that BS all over again.
I replaced the CMOS battery and that did nothing.
Has anyone ever seen a problem like this?
I found a YT video on it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFFd1CTkSds
But this does not permanently fix the problem. Someone wrote:
"I forced the mb to use the other bios chip and the issue stopped for nearly a year. it's happening again today."
How do I do that?
hi! got an aorus 17 xe4 last year and now after an bios update its suddenly start to shut down while gaming and when i saw event log found the critical error: kernel-power error 41 (63) i did everything to solve it, but sadly didnt work. how can i downgrade bios ? or something else to fix it
I have the aorus master 3070 and the gcc used to show an rgb fusion option under the gpu but when I updated the app it disappeared and now I cant control the lcd and rgb of the card.
Hey everyone,
I have an X870 Aorus Elite Wifi7 Ice with a 7800X3D.
I recently updated my motherboard BIOS from version F1 to F3f in hopes of better stability and support, but now I’m facing a strange issue with sleep mode. Before the update, my system worked perfectly fine, waking up from sleep without any problems.
However, after updating to F3f, every time I wake the computer from sleep, it seems to start up normally. But as soon as I log in and get to the desktop, it restarts within a few seconds. This cycle happens consistently, and I’ve tried multiple times with the same result.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far to troubleshoot:
• Reset BIOS to default settings: I cleared out any custom settings, hoping this would fix it, but no luck. Also reset my EXPO setting to default.
• Reapplied my PBO undervolt settings to auto: I used to run a -15 offset without issues on F1, but I’ve changed it back to auto.
• Checked Windows Fast Startup: I disabled fast startup, but that didn’t make a difference.
• Updated Chipset Drivers: I updated to the latest chipset drivers, thinking it might help with power management and sleep, but the issue persists.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue after a BIOS update? Should I try rolling back to F1, or is there a fix I’m missing? Would really appreciate any advice!
Thanks!
Hello all!
After weeks of trying to find/solve the problem I write this post now... I hope you guys can help me.
My build:
-aorus b550 mobo
-ryzen 7 5700x cpu + be quit pure rock 2 cpu cooler
-aorus rtx 3070
- 32gb ram
- psu was a 600w at the moment the problem started / now I upgraded to seasonic 850 gold (still have the issues)
-sata : 2 hdds, 250gb and 1000gb / 1 ssd 120 gb with OS on it (dvd reader which is not plugged in atm, but was plugged in as the first crash started)
-pcie express wlan/bluettooth card from intel (which is atm not plugged in, but it was plugged in as the first crash started)
So I am using this build since last year december without any problems. I upgraded to this build to play mainly tekken 8 which came out january this year. I also stream sometimes with obs to youtube/twitch at same time. Other games like resident evil 4 remake also ran without problems.
The problems started I think by the end of september (after almost 10 months without this issues).
At that time (few days before I had my first pc crash) I also bought myself m2 ssd 1tb (from wd, name is sn770 nvme) and put it into the first m2 slot which run with cpu.
I think the first pc crash happened on a friday during tekken 8 play. The picture was frozen and show a lil bit artifacts and then my pc restarted but with bad resolution because it was not able to show my gpu. Device manager showed error code 43.
I was using DDU to delete and reinstall the nvidia drivers and it worked for like 1 week and on next weekend it happened again. Then on the 2nd time I did the same procedure again and it was ok for another week. So on the 3rd time (3 weeks after first crash) I thought I need to search for the issue, cuz it was not normal, after the 3rd week it started to happen very often and irregulary times (sometimes after 10 hours of pc use, sometimes after 5 minutes of pc use... no matter if gaming or just office work/browsing internet!)
I tried to remove my new m2 ssd and play again on a hdd but the pc crash with error 43 happend again...
(Also tried 3 different versions of nvidia drivers... this also not help. Other idea was to enable xmp in bios which also not helped)
So I put my m2 ssd back in my first m2 slot and changed then bios setting to gen 3 on my gpu... still crashing with error 43...
Next I tried to use the gpu in the 2nd slot which run with 8x not 16x and it worked well... also furmark was no problem (tested for 40 min on 2nd slot. on the other hand pc crashed after 10 seconds on first gpu x16 slot)
Everytime after crash my computer restard and showing artefacts with the windows logo at the beginning (showing error 43 on device manager) and I have to use ddu method to clean install drivers....
I hope I wrote everything u need to know. sorry for my bad english and thanks in advance for every tip I will receive!
-cheers
Anyone here who knows the dimentions off the heatsink shown in this picture on the gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax? I need the height messured and the width off this part due to a build i am planning to do, the aio might not fit in my case due to the heatsink so i came to reddit looking for some answers..
I've got some issues regarding having 4 nvme ssd drives installed. I get stuck in a constant blue screen boot loop with the same acpi/licence failure errors.
Did they fix this in the 1.1 revision of the board?
Hey everyone - I've just got my Aorus FO27Q3 and just noticed that there's a dark grey/black bar in between the chrome screen and the bezels. Its only visible on the right hand side and the bottom of the monitor. Left and top are aligned. See pic below.
Is this fixable? I’ve tried playing around with res but couldnt find a fix yet. Got the latest driver updated etc.
Hey Guys, I have a Gigabyte 7900xtx that has driver timeouts while gaming unless I set the max frequecy to 2680 MHz. I have to set it again after every windows update (i have ended up just created a profile in adrenaline that i import after updates. I guess my question if anyone knows is if thats the only fix? i've gone back to past drivers and used DDU everytime but the only way to get stability is downclocking from factory MHz.
Updating all of my apps on app center and this app called "SIV" has been taking forever to install, upwords of 45 minutes. I have a fast wifi and pc and am scared to shot down pc. pls reply asap
Ive been having some issues with my PC lately, I can't quite remember when did I update my BIOS and if it was before or after the issue but I have a question....
BIOS FD says It has Optimized performance for 5800X3D
Am I safe to assume the newest updates include this and they are better than rolling back to FD?
I'm on the latest (FGd released Sep 02, 2024) but I'm running out of things to troubleshoot on my PC and started to wonder if I should roll back to FD that specifically mentions my CPU.
I appreciate any help. Thanks
When I turn on the PC, it starts with this problem. Then I turn it off and when I turn it on, everything works normally. Thanks
Downloaded every latest driver, bluetooth, wireless, lan, chipset, windows update, latest bios, etc and connected the wifi antenna but i cant make it work. Still the wifi icon on notification task bark (far right end corner) wont appear.
Long story short, I was fiddling with the BIOS, trying to get my computer to allow me to install Windows 11. I did something, can't recall what exactly, related to Secureboot and upon restart I entered a boot loop.
I already tried resetting the CMOS both by removing the battery and using the short pins (with power off and cord unplugged). Still the same thing. The activity lights alternate between the DRAM and VGA lights, but why would there be problems with those components if all I did was alter the BIOS? I tried booting with no GPU but the same loop happens.
What else can I try? I don't understand why clearing the CMOS didn't reset the BIOS settings. Do I have to boot with an older zen CPU and re-upgrade from there? I still have one lying around from the first time I set up this PC.
I could also just buy a new mobo. Not the ideal solution but the prices are low now since the platform is several years old now, and it would probably save me a lot of headache if I can't get it figured out in a reasonable time.
Other specs:
5900X
32GB RAM
RTX 3080
850W PSU
Two M.2 drives, one SATA SSD
Using latest BIOS version (F39d)
Can a GIGABYTE G34WQC A 34" display 4k or 3.4k at 120 hz from a ps5 using hdmi?
I typically run 2x16gb DDR5 6000 CL30 on my gigabyte mb.
However I need more ram for another cad project from time to time.
Does using 4 ram slots slow anything down?
Does using 2 different matching pair of speed DDR5 for the other 2 slots hurt me or still help?
Hey,
I spent two nights of my life searching for a solution after receiving my new setup.
I realized that when I installed both RAM sticks as indicated in the manual (A2 and B2), the PC still wouldn’t post. It did post with A2 alone, but when I added the second RAM stick in B2, it wouldn’t.
So, I decided to try placing the RAM sticks in A1 and A2.
Then, I saw the DRAM light switch to VGA. This was because the GPU was missing. Once I installed the GPU, boom, the problem was solved!
Before that, I had updated the BIOS to the latest version available on the manufacturer’s website, but make sure to download the correct one. My motherboard was version 1.2, and I had been downloading version 1.1, which caused issues when updating.
It’s also a good idea to clear the CMOS by removing the battery, placing a screwdriver across the jumper pins, and, to double-check, with the PC completely unplugged, pressing the power button to discharge any remaining power.
And that’s how I resolved my worst nightmare.
The manual it's basically usless
It's something extremely weird that started to happen about a month ago. Basically the screen works perfectly but at some point shuts off. At first it could be fixed by opening GCC and going to the RGB Fusion tab which made it turn on again. However from the beginning of last week the problem got so bad that the screen would not even stay on for more than a few minutes, and the "fix" with the RGB tab doesn't work anymore. However I noticed that this problem only happens in certain light modes. For instance, the "Cycle" mode which is the one I use the most, is completely busted; the screen won't stay on for more than a couple seconds. Right now I'm in the Rainbow mode and it hasn't turned off so far, and also I can restart the screen by changing to a mode that I have never used.
It seems like a software issue. I already contacted support but I wanted to know if someone has had a similar experience and if they managed to fix it.
Hi everyone.
I thought you might be able to help me find a solution for my problem.
Windows is giving me an option to install Windows 11 (current Windows 10). I downloaded installation wizard, downloaded and installed 11, but when I reboot, it won't go past initial screen when system is loading. It just gets stuck. I left it during the night and found the screen on initial system loading (logo and loading circle; sorry for the lack of proper terminology).
I tried updating BIOS from manufacturer site, it went through normally but I still cannot update windows to 11.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
I have a GIGABYTE B650 EAGLE AX motherboard, Patriot Viper Venom 5 DDR5 RAM (2x16GB at 7200 MT/s CL34), and an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X (8 cores/16 threads). My RAM is currently running at 4800 MT/s, but in the BIOS, I see options to set it to 6800 or 7200 MT/s.
When I increase the speed and reboot, my system becomes unstable during stress testing in AIDA64, with errors indicating system overload or failure. I’m also unable to find an option for EXPO in the BIOS, which I thought would help with automatic timing and voltage adjustments for stability at higher speeds.
Is it possible to achieve stable performance at 6800 MT/s or higher with my setup? Or could the lack of EXPO support on this motherboard mean that speeds above 4800 MT/s aren’t viable? Any advice would be appreciated!
I just got the Gigabyte M27Q X monitor and the included power cable is too short to be run through my monitor arm since the brick gets in the way, does anyone know if there's a reputable place in Europe that sells the same cable but longer, or what sort of specifications would I need for a barrel cable extender? The official website only says it's 25W 19Vdc 4.74A
Hello! I posted in this subreddit last week, related to a BIOS update for my "Gigabyte G5 KC" laptop. A few days later i remembered i got this laptop from Amazon. It came with no set-up drivers wise and had to install them myself. I wanted to ask if someone here has had a similar experience before and could tell me if i did it correctly or not. Help is greatly appreciated!
:D
I just recieved the card from a friend, which he never had any issues with.
My steps:
I tried many times with many ways to ramp up temperature limit on each software and limit the fan speed when reaching that temperature but to no avail.
What I noticed is that when the GPU temp is at 87°C, the hot spot is around 106°C. Would it be possible that the thermal paste turned bad and it is a safe-feature of the card to avoid damaging the electronics? Like there is no way to overwrite this?
Thanks in advance.
I had been having problems with programs since they did not run with the dedicated card, I was trying to solve it in a new game and it did not fix it like when I solved it before by configuring the graphics option of windows with the app, I tried to use the nvidia application and run the game and when I entered it simply turned off, now it does not turn on and I have already removed the battery and tried to turn it on with and without the battery but it does not work, I also removed the ssd and the ram memories but nothing, also when connecting the power cable the light does not turn on, it simply died. Any suggestions? :(
Can anyone help to advise which NVME slot to use to ensure my graphic card performance won't be affected?
From Gigabyte website it seems like using the 2nd m.2 slot will affect the lanes for GPU?

So my PC has picked up a very unusual problem in the last few days and I have no idea what's going on. It's a Ryzen 5900X running on an X570 Aorus Elite motherboard. Simply put, it does not appear to be shutting down or going to sleep properly. When I try either, the video outputs turn off, the RGB turns off... but the fans keep running (including those on the GPU). And just never turn off. Neither can the system be turned on by hitting the power button again, it's as if the system is trying to turn off but failing to do so. My only option is to completely cut the power (I do this using the PSU switch).
When I do this, when I turn on the PC again all the BIOS settings have been reset back to their defaults - however, for some unknown reason the system clock is ten days ahead. The thing is, I first diagnosed these problems as a failing/low CMOS battery. So I replaced that. It didn't help.
I'm not sure what this could be. I do not think it's either the BIOS or any Windows settings - those were not changed before I started having this problem. I'm guessing something has broken with my motherboard, but does anyone have any other ideas?
I'm trying to balance temperature and noise. I bought a Llano cooler - it's pretty loud. I can stomach the noise I get with the laptop averaging 85 to 90 but to me seems too high for several hours of games. What should I ask for and has anyone found a really quiet and effective cooler?
For reference, I get shoes at 90 to 97. Hw monitor doesn't really show an average but it seems like I'm in the low 80s at 700rpm on the Llano.
Hi everyone,
I'm facing a problem and need some help. Today, while playing a game, I noticed a hissing or electric spark sound coming from my setup. I initially thought it was my PSU, but after unplugging all the cables and replugging them, the issue persisted. I then started unplugging cables one by one and found that the hissing sound was coming from either the HDMI cable or the graphics card.
To test this further, I launched Warzone on my PC and went into the training zone. When I unplugged the HDMI cable while firing in the game, the hissing and sparking sound stopped. As soon as I plugged the HDMI cable back in, the sound resumed. I tested this again with another game, Palworld, and encountered the same situation.
What should I do next to resolve this issue?
Thanks a lot!
