I am new to gene editing and am stuck finding this gene's promoter regions. How would I go about editing this gene?
I’m doing a presentation on gene editing. One of my subjects is gene editing babies for cosmetic purposes (eye color, hair color/type, height, ect.) I’m having a bit of a hard time finding sources if anyone can help.
I have a little knowledge in genetic engineering. But I am wondering, by successfully knocking in a trait into an organism, will it affect its fitness? Maybe like growth rate? I just assume that it is possible since some nutrients will be used to express the gene however, I can't find any reference that will support my claim.
I know little about genetic engineering . But older (Pre CRISPR) gene therapy involved using a vector to insert a foreign gene (from another species) and its promoter sequence into the target species. My understanding is you could not control WHERE in the target species genome the inserted foreign gene would integrate itself. So how would you ensure that it did not insert itself in a position where it interfered with the functioning of other genes or regulatory element? How would you make sure that the transgene would express itself at all, and at the correct level. Because in organisms genes are not solitary they form complex Gene Regulatory network and a foreign gene in a different context may behave completely unexpectedly.
Despite all these challenges how were they able to produce transgenic strains and organism like goats that produce spider silk in milk etc?
Hi, if you are seeing this, I would love it if you could respond to this survey for my communications class. I am doing an interview-based study on the morality of genetic editing, and I am just looking for a few short responses from Susu or other college students. Feel free to answer as few or as many questions as you like, or just tell me your general thoughts.
Hello, thank you for your participation in this study. We are SDSU students looking to find College Students' general consensus on the morality of genetic editing. We invite you to participate in this study because you are a college student with opinions we want to hear. We are conducting this study to help future researchers decide how ethical genetic editing is perceived to be. I will ask you roughly 15 short questions, and the interview should take no longer than 20 minutes. By enrolling in this study, you agree to share your personal thoughts that may be cited or referenced in published research. If you do not want your thoughts to be referenced, you can be cited as an anonymous participant. Participation in this study is not mandatory, and participants will not be compensated financially for their participation. If you would like to receive a copy of the published study, we will provide participants with our contact information so that we can share with them our findings. For questions or concerns, contact Calvin Burau at cburau9265@sdsu.edu. Do you consent to participating in this interview research? May I record our interview?
i. Can you elaborate?
i. Are you aware of CRISPR and its capabilities?
i. How could it be beneficial?
i. How so?
Do you have any concerns with the morality of genetic editing?
Do you think genetic editing for therapeutic needs should be allowed for adults?
Do you think that the genetic editing of babies or unborn children should be allowed?
If you had a baby with a life-threatening illness or abnormality that could be cured with genetic editing, would you approve the procedure?
If you had an unborn baby with a severe deformity that could be cured with genetic editing, would you approve the procedure?
What restrictions might you think we need to put into place before allowing genetic editing on all humans?
i. Should we allow anyone to obtain genetic editing?
Do you think our government should be funding genetic editing studies?
What college are you currently enrolled in?
i. What year are you?
What gender do you identify as?
How old are you?
What college are you currently enrolled in?
My final question is just a simple yes or no question. Do you support the idea of genetic editing on humans?
Thank you so much for your participation in this study. As a reminder, No identifying information will be recorded in the data set or reported in any resulting publications. If you would like to revoke your participation after the interview is completed, or if you have any questions, you can contact me via email at cburau9265@sdsu.edu or by phone at (775) 846-3358. If you wish, I will send you a transcript of your interview to review and edit as you see fit.
If I wanted a dachshund to be big/strong enough to ride (not that I would), what company would be willing to do that? & For how much?
So I recently had the pleasure to listen to a presentation about durable agriculture. The end conclusion was that we had to change our focus to farming with trees. Since trees are a much better alternative compared to farming one year crops, this for a number of reason. This is based on using nuts to make all kinds of products and fruits etc. There wasn't really any talk of gene editing. But I was wondering, is there any possibility to use gene editing to make a tree have by example potatoes growing instead of apples. Or a maybe less crazy example, tomatoes. Is it possible? Is there maybe even any organization already working with that idea?
Are there any books or YouTube channels on gene editing. What are some university’s that teach/specialize in the topic. What basic knowledge do I need to start studying the course.
Any help is apreciated.
What are some good resources, ideally text books, that cover
This year, as a part of my final paper on gene editing for AP Research, I am gathering data regarding the public's opinion on CRISPR-Cas9, a prevalent gene editing mechanism.
If you have a few minutes to spare, I would greatly appreciate it if you could fill out this brief survey. No prior knowledge on genetic editing is needed and the survey is anonymous! Your input would contribute significantly to the success of my project.
Thank you!
Is it possible for someone or a company in the future to create something through gene editing or even a pill or something so that hair can be changed permanently from Straight to Curly,Kinky to Straight etc.
I don't mind going into bio-engineering or something similar to that field so that it can be a reality. What are the chances of something to change Hair type Permanently in the future (If not in my life-time, (I'm 18 btw) when potentially ?
Also,If the Type (Texture) is changed, would it be able to grow downwars instead of upwars and visa-versa and such ?
how? tell me if it's possible, dont tell be that it wont be easy
im looking for a reputiable biological supply company that sells plant dna
im trying to create drought proof plants
then once safty tests are complete i plan to send them to places experiencing severe drought and famine
im looking for these plants dna ( snakeskin agave , solanum lycopersicum)
PS all I know is when the wings tear from my body it should feel unbearable.

But reddit wanted to take it down
Hi I'm a high schooler and have a theory. What if we engineer a virus to contain a copy of the human genome and see if it can make it so if one part of a person's DNA is messed up there would still be the copy. It's like making a human shield but for DNA.
Many anti vaxers may get mad at this post but you got to agree is a good theory.
Today I found out by scratching my hand. That my teeth are sharp enough to nearly break through my skin with barely any pressure on my skin. Meaning my vampire or wolf teeth are coming along I have both hybrids. Sorry I know there’s a lot but yeah.
Though mmmm that scratching, you guys, got to try it. It feels so good.
