8 years ago me and friends played the DayZ mod for months. It was kinda fun but the countless game ending bugs took the fun experience away until one by one we all stopped playing it. So it has been a long time and DayZ surely got plenty of updates and is polished now? Can anyone recommend it?
[No DAV Spoilers] I’m Incredibly Indifferent about DAV…
Ok no spoilers, but I’m 15 hours into DAV. Now I’m a huge BioWare fan, and have been since KOTOR.
Of their games Mass Effect is what I’d consider their magnum opus, and is the epitome of what I believe their games should resemble in terms of writing, decisions, characters, etc…
That said, I’ve always enjoyed the DA series but was never in love with it the same way some fans are. I think it’s a cooler high fantasy universe, with some interesting takes on existing fantasy tropes. Regardless I always considered DA to have the same level of passion and quality put into it by BioWare as they did with Mass Effect.
My expectations for DAV were incredibly low, given the last two BioWare entires fell flat for me (Anthem, ME: Andromeda). So no, I wasn’t expecting them to really deliver anything great.
Now DAV isn’t an outright “bad” game on paper. I think the combat is satisfying despite the lack of any true enemy variety. This lack of variety is also why I think it’s already starting to feel incredibly repetitive only 15 hours in. The loot while aesthetically nice to look at, feels like it’s very mobile game in design, especially with how you level up certain pieces of loot.
The worlds are beautiful unsurprisingly, since I’ve always felt that one of BioWares strongest aspects have been its art direction for environments. But I’d argue out of all of DAV’s design aspects its levels and “open spaces” feel unapologetically like asset flips from their original DA service title. That said, they do at least attempt to make these spaces interesting after you complete main missions. But when running through these levels, it’s painfully clear how much of the DA service game makes up DAV’s bones/DNA.
However to me those things aren’t the biggest issue I have, b/c ultimately I don’t mind a lot of the systems & mechanics I’ve already mentioned, mainly b/c there not overly egregious. I say that, b/c in RPGs I can push through a lot of bad systems, combat, etc… if the writing and characters are great.
So far, DAV feels almost identical in its tone, writing, and characters as ME: Andromeda did, which for myself personally, is a huge disappointment.
Whenever I’ve talked about Andromedas writing in comparison to the original trilogy, the example I always use is, if the original trilogy’s writing was Star Trek NG, meaning it’s well thought out, nuanced, layered, and able to balance the serious themes with moments of genuine levity. ME Andromeda is the equivalent of FOX’s Terra Nova show. Meaning it’s bland, basic, surface level, lacking all of the interesting depth the original trilogy had.
As it stands, this is exactly how DAV’s writing feels. I thought ppl were joking at launch when talking about how cookie cutter the writing was. But after 15 hours that has been proven multiple times over now.
The dialogue feels so stiff and sterile. It completely lacks any different voices or perspective, and feels like a CW, YA show for a lot of the conversations. It’s almost like you can tell the writers aren’t passionate about this games script in the slightest.
It’s been so jarring just hearing these characters speak to one another, since most of the conversations don’t make these characters feel real or immersive in anyway.
This aspect is ultimately having me questioning if I’m going to complete DAV right now. I’ve also been playing Metaphor which narratively is leagues above DAV in almost every single way.
I’ve heard some of the narratively is greatly improved towards the end, but idk, I’m having such a hard time buying into these characters, but like the combat enough to keep playing for the moment.
Yes, even though the game's atmosphere and graphics are incredible, it's really terrible for such a big game to be filled with bugs and have such strange AI. In areas like sloped roads and underpasses in the middle of the city, NPCs getting out of cars end up going into the ground, and this bug is so obvious that anyone would notice it. Additionally, when passing through two-way roads in the city, NPC cars coming from the opposite direction swerve left or right and crash into us as if we’re heading straight toward them. I’ve seen a lot of bugs like this.
Another bug is that if you save the game in the middle of the road and then reload, NPC cars will keep crashing into you without even noticing you for the first 30 seconds. They hit you three times and then stop, only to run you over on the fourth try.
Despite only having played around 10 hours, I’ve already encountered this many bugs, so who knows what else is in store. What do you think?
I just beaten Watch Dog 1 and started Watch Dog 2. And oh man what a shock !
In WD 1, the world is so real. The story is for grown ups. The basic plot is someone tried to murder you after a failed hack at a fancy hotel and killed your little girl instead. You know somebody betrayed you. You're on the path of vengeance to find and punish those responsible for that.
Subplots mission includes searching for a serial killer, closing down an illegal weapon ring or a forced prostitution ring.
The vehicles and the guns all feel real. The police is a real pain in the ass to get rid off. Their is this mega computer surveillance thing called CTOS and the big company behind that's blume. There are important part of the story but not the main part.
In WD 2, the world feel like an amusement park. The plot is just that CTOS sucks and that's not cool, so you and your crew of over the caricature of nerds are gonna tear it down. And the way to do it is to acquire followers that basically lend you their computer's power as long as they follow you.
One of the first side mission is about preventing a billionaire to keep some rappers' new album all by himself...
The guns and vehicles are a joke. The police too.
I really wonder why the F the first game gets so much hate and the second so much love...
For Me it's definitely Boss fights in Jump and runs. They are often very simple and often very boring and I see them more as a distraction and annoyance than something fun
A specific example would be the Boss fights in Sonic adventure 2... They exist, and I wish they would not
Listen, I wanna play my games without paying 200€ for a controller so I usually buy cheap ones that cost 30€ or 40€ max. But there we are. 3 of them have joystick drift (2 switch/Pc and one PS4 one) one has a problem that makes L1 press at the same time when I'm pressing L2. And the most frustrating one has a weird sensitivity for the left joystick and even if I'm going full left it acts like if it was in the middle left and my character just walks.
I have a gamecube controller, it has lost its colour there is no gum on the joystick but It works perfectly, absolutely no problem. I have a xbox360 controller and same, the gum is disappearing, the cable is definitely dying but damn it works fine (it's actually the controller I finish by using the most)
My brother paid like 70€ for an official Xbox controller and after 3 months... It has stick drift wtf !
First, am I the only one or am I just cursed ? And secondly do you guys have any recommendations for controllers that are cheap but work well ?
My wife is an avid Nintendo fan, having bought Wii, WiiU and Switch (Lite and the normal console)...
Most games do not perform well, they often lag and seem like they weren't actually designed for the console they were specifically designed for.
Now, to what triggered this post, my wife bought Disney Dreamlight Valley (why? beyond me) on the Switch and quickly noticed it is quite laggy, does not perform well enough to be enjoyable. She sees in the receipt email that you have 14 days right of cancellation. She then asks me to contact Nintendo and ask if they can refund the game since it is not performing the way she expected. (Asking me to do this because her English isn't great)
I call Nintendo on the number provided in the email to ask for a refund on the game, as it is not performing well. The agent on the phone informs me that "When you buy a digital game, you need to check in a box that says you waive the right of cancellation", so there is no right of cancellation?
In order for us to get a refund of 35£, the hoops I was asked to jump through are as follows:
Nintendo sending out Troubleshooting steps (which I can tell you right now, will do not do anything)
Contact the developer for the game and ask them if they will patch it, WHEN they answer (not if) that they CANNOT fix it then I can send that response to Nintendo and they will escalate it.
If you got this far, I can understand if you love Nintendo franchises, they do have a few good ones (I think the games play like shit on their consoles but the games aren't inherently bad) but why would ANYONE support Nintendo?
TL:DR
Nintendo has a 14 day right of cancellation policy, that you HAVE TO WAIVE if you buy a digital game. Scummy af if you ask me.
There was a game I played as a kid maybe around the late 90s. It had some base building and a robotic/space theme.
You could direct your vehicles/tanks/robot squads to fight and move to areas (think command conquer) BUT THEN you could choose any of your troops or vehicles and take over control directly.
Then you could fight the battle from the front lines as whatever fighter/vehicle you had inhabited.
It was freakin awesome.
Is there any game like that now? Or does anyone know what it was called? It’s such a fun concept.

Does anyone here remember The Culling? In my opinion it was one of the best battle royales of its time. If you don't know it, it was like a cross between H1Z1 and PUBG. I think it just died due to games like Fortnite and PUBG being released around the same timeframe. Just wanted to get a headcount and hear your guys favorite memories from that game.
By the way I dont mean late stage The Culling Origins (game died hard at that point) I more mean like 2015/2016 early access versions.
On Xbox One X, so not even sure if the graphics quality is the highest it can be ie, pc.
Sadly someone else beat me to the rest of the old PC games at my goodwill that I was going to try and get, but I did manage to secure this today
I am so shocked at this tremendous let down. Even getting passed the PS3 quality visuals after all this time, this is a total departure from the style and tone of the previous games. This seems like a different game but accidentally with the same characters. I played it for less than two hours and I want my money back.
It seams like everything that comes out now has that same feature. It always makes me skip by what otherwise looks like a decent rts.
Thank god for save states, and even with them I believe this could be considered torture under the Geneva conventions...
I somehow missed Mad Max when it came out and I’m having a blast with it. Ramming into vehicles and watching them explode is so fun and satisfying.
What other games have explosions that feel good?
The new Dragon Age's romances are really disappointing. It feels like they hardly impact the storyline, and it never feels like you are actually in a relationship with the companion, more like a very close friend for the few scenes the game actually remembers that you romanced a character.
I've always found that companion romances have been a core part of the Bioware formula, so it's really disappointing to compare Veilguards' romance to the previous games, namely Dragon Age: Origins.
The romance questline for Morrigan was a core part of my memories of that game, watching her slowly fall for the player character, and subsequently, change for the better as she found someone that she truly cared for and wanted to be her real self for, dropping the act she was putting on (and would have continued putting on if you didn't engage in her romance questline), overcoming the harsh teachings of her mother that caused her to put up a wall. Choosing to romance her also played a core part in the games main narrative and it really felt impactful, Morrigan became your character's lover, and it mattered in the game world.
I am curious, with the new Bioware failing to live up to old Bioware's pedigree for romance, what games would you say truly excel at delivering romance narratives. I know it's not for everyone, but I personally find that if executed well, a romance subplot can really help elevate a game, making it more memorable and enjoyable to play.
It could be a game that excels in romancing companion characters, or even a linear, main story romance that is done well.
So back in elementary school I vividly remember playing this game on the school Computers where basically you would have two options (ex. Walk the plank or use the rope to get across) and if you choose the wrong one you’d “die” and it had a few different “islands” and I never got to finish it. It was years ago and I can’t seem to remember the name but what I do remember is there was options such as “walk the plank” “swing across using rope” in one “island” I believe there was either an owl or lion with a jewel in its mouth or eyes and there was an option to take it out said jewels or push the actual statue aside. But I remember it never finishing the game and it honestly spooked me anytime I “died” because it’d be something dramatic such as “you tried walking across the plank and it snapped and you fell into a void/hold” and it had these loud dramatic sounds, but if anyone might have a recollection of it, it was popular in schools around 2010-2012. I know it’s not a lot to work with but I’m hoping anyone might know what I’m talking about, I have such little memory of it since I was like 8/9 but I thought I’d give it a shot, I’m not sure it even exists anymore, it was on a website where like red beard and stuff was.
1.) Zelda OOT 2.) World of Warcraft 3.) Halo 3
What is camping? Where is the line between tactically sound and camping? Is it a spectrum? Why is it hated? Is it hated more in certain games? Is it because of lack of tools to deal with it?
Modern warfare 2 was the game that really got me into online gaming. Most call of duty games that have come out since then just don't have the same feel to them. I really enjoyed overwatch in its heyday, but it's gone so downhill. Since then, I haven't found a fun shooter game to fill the void. So, what games would you recommend? I should also note that I can't stand battle Royales
It’s wishful thinking I know. But I would love it if a new Warcraft came out. I miss that style of gaming and the world it was set in.
I just finished playing Clock Tower: Rewind and was having some trouble remembering where things were and general navigation. The map isn’t that big so I pulled out a pen and paper and started drawing my own map while also making notes on things that stood out that might be worth coming back to, lore etc.
I really enjoyed doing this and was curious what games you have pulled a pen and paper out for? (Or something similar)
I remember seeing this party game along time ago where the players were in colored metal balls ramming each other off a circle platform getting smaller. Another game they they had was like tron on laser bikes. Does that ring any bells?
As I grow older, I´ve been noticing what I have been craving in games lately and why I cant enjoy them like before. Earlier games, like NES games and older titles gave you some punishment for dying, some were preety hardcore I admit, but a game like Super Mario for example, you had a finite number of lifes so you had to be careful and there was always the thrill of messing up. In more recent titles we have the souls like formula that death is not a game over, but if you die you might loose your souls. There are more games that punish that to a degree, rouguelikes for example and another title like Blood West, which punish every death with a debuff. So anyway I noticed what I want now in games is that, games that actually punish death or a finite number of saves or lifes to prevent save scumming. Hardcore mode are still too much for me because you completely start over and thats not what im looking for. Im looking for games that allow for some mistakes and punish death with debuff, or xp or gold for example and give that thrill of if I mess up I m going to lose something. Do you know more games that meet this criteria?
