How do you view your current course schedule on Oscar?

I've been wondering this for a few years now. I've tried every on Oscar. It's been a fun experience, and I've appreciated learning about all the non-course schedule buttons.

Justification: Sometimes external entities ask to view your current scheduling of classes. I've never been able to access this.

P.S. Degree works doesn't count – as that's more like your transcript and one has to scroll through 40+ classes to find the information they seeketh.

Where Do Startup Founders Work at Georgia Tech?

Hey everyone, I’m a CS undergrad at Georgia Tech looking for good startup-friendly spaces on campus or nearby. I know about ATDC and CODA, but not sure how accessible they are for students. Can undergrads work there or attend events? Does CREATE-X offer dedicated spaces for teams?

Also, are there any lesser-known spots where founders and builders hang out—coworking areas, hacker spaces, or study lounges that people use for startups? Would love any recommendations from those who’ve been through it. Appreciate the help!

Rejected from Georgia Tech PhD – Frustrated & Confused

Hey everyone,

I recently got the news that my PhD application was rejected because my undergrad GPA was 2.8/4.0. I get that it’s on the lower side, but I worked hard to make up for it—I participated in multiple national and international engineering competitions during undergrad and won them. After that, I completed my master’s degree with a 3.9/4.0 GPA, published papers, secured patents, and built strong grant-writing experience.

The professor whose lab I applied to fought for me, but the admissions committee wasn’t willing to budge. During undergrad, I competed in six engineering competitions (both national and international) over four years and won every single one. Despite that, they still fixated on my undergrad GPA.

I always thought the American system valued second chances and looked at the bigger picture, but this experience has been frustrating. I understand that I’m ultimately responsible for my undergrad performance, but it’s disheartening to see that everything I did afterward didn’t seem to matter.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Anyone have experience with Revature?

Just got a direct message from a Revature associate on LinkedIn. The company is supposed to help entry level people gain skills/experience with coding (only makes sense to me since I didn't come out CS). But has anyone from Tech actually worked with them before? Is it a scam? Did it actually help you?

I really want a job, but I'm not willing to get sucked into something sketch just to make money, so any info would be greatly appreciated!

404 Error GT commitment to DEI not found

you may have seen a post by @ydsagt circulating on Instagram about GT rolling back all mentions of DEI. the post highlighted how certain web pages have already been removed and a leak of an internal email listing banned words. I’m also not sure how much of this is hearsay, so I figured I’d like to share my thoughts and hear from others.

I’m a little confused on how this is going to affect existing resources, like the ones inside the Flag building. I personally know a couple of employees who were previously a part of “DEI” initiatives and are either changing roles or leaving. I feel there hasn’t been much high-level transparency from the institute.

Also, how does this bode for the next four years? I understand GT’s dependence on public funds puts them in a tough spot…but like it still feels spineless. If GT is so quick to give up their “commitment to DEI,” what does that mean for the coming years? Will they also comply with the executive order to deport students for speaking out against genocide? I understand Trump says he will target “hamas sympathizers” but I have a suspicion he means Pro-Palestine protesters. Similar to how he went from saying he’d deport violent criminals, to raiding schools and jobs. Will they sit around while stricter immigration laws send our professors away? It’s very possible I’m overthinking it, but I can’t help but feel an eerie similarity to the part in Wicked where the professors lose their ability to speak…

Lastly, I’m wondering what action is helpful on my end. What student organizations can I support? Any upcoming events?

These are my thoughts. Especially interested to hear from non-US-citizen members of the institute and members of the msa.

Met a guy at the Single’s Inferno Mixer‼️Help Please‼️

Hey, I was at the Single Inferno event this Thursday and met an Asian guy who came with his two friends. I was with a friend who was wearing a red coat and had a bob and I was wearing an off-shoulder red top and black pants, and I was super nervous since it was my first time at a club! We talked for a bit, but the music was so loud I could barely hear anything and I didn’t even get his name even though it was like the beginning of the event. Like literally 30 minutes in at like 10:30. I am pretty sure you were wearing like a red jersey with a number but i dont know how much that narrows this down. We got introduced by a friend and you told your friend to come up to me saying you thought I was cute. I thought you were cute too and got really flustered, and I feel bad because I was trying to talk to you but i was just super overwhelmed in the environment. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember much afterwards. I’d love to reconnect if you’re interested—feel free to reach out, even if it’s just to be friends!

Georgia Tech Online Mechanical Engineering Masters

Hi guys! So I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering and am currently in a program at work that is offering to pay for my Master's Degree. Originally I was going to go for a Master's in Industrial Engineering but a lot of the architects/principals at work advised me that my portfolio would be much stronger if I did my Master's in Mechanical Engineering. Looks like all the industrial engineering jokes are true. In general, I am much more interested in the curriculum content of ISyE versus ME but know that ME is probably more applicable to work and would likely allow for more technical growth. But truthfully, I am fearful that the transition will be difficult and I will not do well in the classes because of my different undergraduate degree, having to balance coursework with work, and my general dislike for math/physics (although I know that I am more than capable of doing those subjects). I will say the industry application of mechanical engineering is cool (modeling, FEA work, etc) but not sure if that is what you actually learn in a Master's ME class.

Any thoughts on this would be super helpful thank you so much!

*Also I need recommendations for classes to take for GTech ME Master's program! :)

Looking for a shop to put new wheels on my car

I bent a rim on my car and rather than buying an expensive oem rim I am getting a set of aftermarket rims (+tires). I am looking for a shop or location I can have the wheels shipped to that will mount them for me as I don’t have access to an impact.

I am a student living on campus so if anyone has recommendations for a shop or somewhere close to campus that could help me with this I would appreciate it.

Any recommended bike shops? Read axel broke and too much for that bike repair club to fix I think.

As the title suggests, the rear axel snapped in half. I doubt that's easily fixed at that bike club on campus. So if anyone had any recommendations for a place to take it, I'd appreciate the help.

Would anyone be down for a coffee club? ☕️

Hey everyone!

I'm trying to gauge interest in starting a coffee club on campus. I've been really into specialty coffee for a while now and would love to build a community around it!

Some ideas I have in mind ☕️:

  • Bi-weekly tastings where we try local roasters (I have some friends at different coffee shops who may be down to collab)
  • Learning different brewing methods together (V60, Aeropress, etc.)
  • Developing our palates to better appreciate coffee
  • Potential fundraising events like campus coffee stands
  • Maybe even design some cool coffee-themed stickers

No experience is needed at all - whether you're a coffee expert or just someone who wants to learn more about coffee. The focus would be on learning together and having fun exploring the coffee world.

Would anyone be interested in something like this? If there's enough interest, I'll start working on making it an unofficial club first then an official club. Drop a comment if you'd want to join or have any other ideas to add!

Here is a GroupMe link to start if you are interested!

Coffee Club GroupMe

EDIT: I did not realize it would get this much interest! This is so cool! I have created a discord server to organize it a bit better! Hope to see this grow even more!

Tax forms (W-2) for Graduate Teaching Assistant?

I graduated in December, after finishing my masters. I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Spring 2024 semester, with a tuition waiver and rent stipend. I don’t know how or where to retrieve my tax forms for filing my tax returns for this year though. As an undergraduate teaching assistant, I used OneUSGConnect portal for tax forms, but now I can’t access that. Any idea?

Who is this hackney jersey? I work in a sports bar in Oregon and we have this on the wall

I work at a sports bar in Oregon and we have this jersey on the wall. All of our other jerseys are local or players that went pro like Herbert, Pritchard, or Rutschman. No one knows how this player is or why we have a Gtech jersey here. My guess is it may be a personal friend of the owner but I have no clue

MARTA is improving bus service to/from Georgia Tech. Your input is needed!

The Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), metro-Atlanta’s primary public transit operator, is redesigning its bus network to be faster, more reliable, and more useful. MARTA has published a draft map of the new routes which you can view here. The proposal drastically improves bus service to and from Georgia Tech and key destinations in Atlanta and beyond.

MARTA is seeking feedback and comments until March 9. Public meetings (virtual and in-person) are happening until early February. A key virtual meeting is scheduled for February 8. Find out more here. The new routes are scheduled to go into effect at the end of 2025.

What is a bus network redesign? Why now?

MARTA is taking a comprehensive look at all its bus routes. From where to where should buses run? How frequently should buses come? MARTA’s bus network hasn’t been redesigned in over 40 years. A lot has changed since: where people live, where people work, new key destinations like the Beltline have been created, etc. The goal of the redesign is to take all of this into consideration and update the network accordingly. As a result, some routes will be added, modified, or removed. Here is a comparison of the current and proposed routes.

How does the redesign improve the bus network?

  • More frequent: Buses run every 15 minutes or better on 18 core routes. Other routes are also becoming more frequent.
  • More direct routes: Routes are redesigned to be more direct and faster.
  • Seven-day service: All routes run every day, including weekends.

How does Georgia Tech benefit?

  • New #2 route along North Avenue and Ponce. Runs every 10 minutes most of the day. Connects Bankhead MARTA station, Georgia Tech, North Ave MARTA station, Fox Theater, Ponce City Market, Eastside Beltline, Little Five Points, and Edgewood/Candler Park MARTA station.
  • #12 and #14 routes along 10th Street and through West Midtown. The two routes branch after West Midtown, but on West Midtown and 10th Street, they run together every 15 minutes. Together they connect West Midtown, Georgia Tech, Midtown, and Midtown MARTA station.
  • New #11 route. Runs every 30 minutes. Connects West Midtown, Georgia Tech, Midtown MARTA station, Piedmont Park, Eastside Beltline, and Emory/CDC. The GT-provided Emory shuttle, for comparison, runs every 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  • New #1 route. Runs every 20 minutes along Northside Dr and 17th Street, connecting West Midtown, Atlantic Station, Arts Center MARTA station, and the Midtown Arts District.
  • The network overall is generally improving, making trips from Georgia Tech and connections to other bus routes or rail lines easier and faster.

Want to learn more? Want to get involved?

If you like the changes, just saying that to MARTA in a comment, email, or the survey would be helpful to move the project along.

Thoughts on CS w device and intelligence or ECE

I’ll be starting in the Fall but I’m not sure if computer science w the devices and intelligence thread would be more useful for what I want to do versus ECE. I want to get Into embedded systems but I like the hardware and software side. The hang up I have is that a CE degree can be used for both chip design and SWE but the CS curriculum teaches more about software design for devices. I’m also not sure if I can switch my major at this point, I have 50 credits and I really do enjoy both fields. I’m just not sure if it will add on to my already extended BS.

I grew up building projects with arduinos so I’m familiar with circuit design and software development so I don’t think I would have trouble adding EE classes. Also could I just minor in EE and get the same results ?

I just want to hear other people’s thoughts on this.
