At work, we've been working quite a lot with custom actions in GPTs - hooking up spreadsheet calculations via our API endpoints into GPT conversations. After seeing how well this works, I’m convinced custom actions are a seriously underutilized part of the GPT ecosystem.
A lot of what we imagine “pure AI” might do in the future can already be handled more reliably (and often more quickly) through a mix of API endpoints (for the “heavy lifting”) and GPT’s language capabilities (for the creative or conversational aspects).

I know that Sam Altman has twitted this week about paid Chat being much more used than they anticipated. Maybe this is a weaker model they use to relieve the usage pressure on their GPUs from paid Chat users?
