Fruita internet access and modem questions:

We are very excited to be moving to Fruita next month, yay! Unfortunately, my internet choices are pretty much what I'm stuck with here in NC (DSL from Windstream, or Spectrum cable). I think where I am moving I will be able to choose either Spectrum or CenturyLink. I'm not a big video streamer, mainly a music and podcast guy, but my wife likes her Prime Video. Also, I occasionally still do IT security contract work, so reliability and availability is more important to me. I only want internet, not TV or phone.

A couple of questions if anyone can help?

- I don't think Spectrum does, but does Century Link have data caps?

- Modems: it seems like all providers now give you a combo device (modem/router/wi-fi access point). I prefer to use my own router and access point. With Windstream's device, I've always been able to configure it for bridge mode (Transparent Bridging Mode) to just make it a dumb modem which allows me to use my own hardware. But, I understand some ISPs no longer allow this, forcing you to use only their device. Does anyone have any information on this?

Oh! And I'm guessing all these devices have a LAN port? I use a managed switch for my wired connections.

Thanks in advance!

How's life in Fruita?

Hi All!

My wife and I have recently retired and we are considering moving to Fruita. We currently live in NC, but growing up, I lived in Arizona and Wyoming. I loved living in the West and really miss it. For years, I have taken cross-country road trips, camping along the way. I almost always make an overnight stop in Fruita. I really like the location, the atmosphere and the people I have talked to while there, and so that's why we are considering Fruita. While there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity on this forum, I do follow the city's website and have tried to do some basic research.

So, what's life like in Fruita? Would you recommend it to new residents? We are in our early sixties, and still active. I enjoy activities like camping, hiking, astronomy (stargazing) and birding. We plan to rent first, and then hopefully find a home to purchase. Lastly, I retired from an IT career and occasionally still do contact work, so I'm wondering about the availability of internet access.

Thanks in advance!

(Edited to include stargazing)

50 cent beers at Pablos

Every Tuesday Pablo's in Fruita has $2 pitchers of Odell's 90 Shilling on tap. They have other beers also. $2 pitcher is a 50 cent beer. That's a damn good deal.

Free moving boxes

Need to get these out of my garage. Moving boxes of various sizes, mostly the small and medium U-Haul or Home Depot type. Also a large flat-screen TV box. Probably about 40 boxes, total. Some of them are kind of beat up. I got lazy about sorting them. So you're welcome to take all or only the ones still in decent shape. Whatever's left over is going to the recycling.

Anyone need a filing cabinet?

$20 or best offer. Four drawer HON filing cabinet. Full-disclosure, it's clearly been used. Dents here and there and some rust. But everything works. 52" high x 15" wide x 26.5" deep.

Stargazing site near town?

I leave my house about 4:30 to go to work, and on clear mornings, I've been impressed at the number of stars I can see just in my neighborhood. Since I usually wake up at the same time even on my days off, I was wondering if there are any good stargazing sites close to town. Maybe Devil's Canyon trailhead, but there's still going to be some light pollution from the city lights.

MTB friends

Looking for other mountain biking friends. Wife and I are 30 and it's tough to make friends after college! We are amateur at best, but love a good ride!

Need my lawn cut

What are Fruita residents called? Fruitans? Fruitites? Fruitarians? Need to know, because I just became one!

Anyway, the grass at my new house is just starting to look a bit too tall, and I don't want to be "that" neighbor. But my lawnmower won't arrive for another three weeks or so. I'm near Park St. and J.2 Rd. The front and back yards are pretty small. Anyone know a responsible neighborhood kid with their own mower who would like to make some quick money? Just cutting grass, no edging or anything fancy.

Thanks!

-Brian

Looking for a room!

Hi, apologies if this isn't allowed. Anyone need a roommate? Starting a job in the area in June, so I'm looking for a place to live! 22 yo recently graduated male, not a partier or noisy, I keep a clean living space. I will be gone a lot of the time for work. Avid outdoorsman, laid back.

Let me know if you or someone you know needs a roommate!

Moving to Fruita in August

Hello everyone, my family will be moving to Fruita this summer. We got to visit last month and drove around a little bit. We'd like to find a house within walking distance of activities. We're looking close to downtown, but I'm wondering if you might have suggestions for neighborhoods near walking trails, rivers, parks, etc. Thanks!
