I think the culprits are Jasmine, Musk, and Cashmeran. I love my gourmands, citrus and juicy fruit scents and I have perfumes with jasmine and musk. But those notes have to be so carefully blended and high quality. I love vanilla, peach, citrus, pepper and cardamom notes. I love spicy notes like pink pepper and cardamom and I love some woodsy notes, like tonka and oak. Patchouli tends to work well with my chemistry. Right now my rotation is Angel’s Share, Flower Bomb Ruby Orchid, SJP Lovely, D&G Devotion and Issey Miyake Pour Homme. I used to have a green tea perfume that came in a round bottle with a glass center so it looked kind of like a bubble. I wish I could find it! Also I recently bought Paloma Picasso because I looooved it in high school and college, but now it’s an instant no. I have no idea why I loved it then.
I haaaate powder accords because they always smell like baby powder to me. I’m not a fan of lily of the valley and Iris. Instant headache scents are Chloë, the original Poison, all the Sol de Janeiro scents and anything jasmine or sandalwood forward.
I haven’t bought many perfumes lately and I’d like to build up my collection. I don’t have crazy money to spend and I’m good with blind buys if they’re returnable. Thank you!!!!
I'm sure this has already been discussed many times, and it was a warning I got before I bought it, but I never expected the performance of Bvlgari's Man in Black (EDP) to be this ridiculously bad. I'm not sure if it's a super fresh batch that needs to macerate some more but I'm not joking when I say that there is nearly 0 projection after just 90 minutes, and no sillage whatsoever. It becomes a skin scent after 2 hours and is just completely gone after 4.
Is there any way to improve this somewhat? Because the scent is for me a true 10/10, but damn, it almost feels pointless wearing it like this... Spraying on clothes I've heard mentioned before, I've yet to try this with MiB though.
F 48, I came looking for a signature scent suggestion and developed a mini addiction. I learned so much from this group in the last year, thank you all! After trying dozens of samples, here is my small collection which I hope will take me through the next couple years!
Oriza LeGrand - Relique D’Amour
Hermes - Jardín Sur Le Nil
Heeley - Menthe Fraiche
Diptyque - Eau Duelle EDT
D’Annam - White Rice
DSH - Urban Beekeeper ( I was able to visit the perfumer in Boulder, CO and she helped me choose this scent to round out my collection. It was so cool!)
What is the best winter valentino colonge for men that smells good and lasts long.
Was it your daily driver or signature? An old favorite you used for special occasions?
I’m new to fragrance and my hyperfixating mind wants to know.
I have a ton. Like two boxes full. I have posted on ebay. But I haven't had a ton of luck on there. Only like 3 sales. For one-id love to connect people with these scents. A lot of them are discontinued or no longer made. I was so happy to have sold the midnight poison-and that lady was so thankful. I would love to find more customers like that!
I know that’s kind of specific but I LOVE the smell of pine and have been looking for the perfect one. I also have been trying to find something that actually smells like rain. What’s your guys favorite pine and/or rain scented fragrances?
I bought the Lattafa Yara perfumes and I hate them! Eclair smells like playdoh, Candy smells like cough syrup and Yara is jasmine headache inducing. And they have that “cheap”fragrance smell that I can’t define but I know when I smell it. I’m so bummed! I love gourmands and so much genuine raving over these.
I was just at Bloomie's where they have MFK, Byredo, Creed, PdM etc, and 2 different sales ladies told me there would be a new MFK fragrance next month. Does anyone know anything? Exciting!
Has any tried this very old fragrance from St Dupont called Nobel wood?
One of my friend told me it's an awesome fragrance and he absolutely loves it! I don't have an option to smell is as it not available in any stores bow as the production stopped long back and my friend who tld me about it lives in a different country.
I found it on few websites but so wanted to check the review before ordering it!
Does anyone know of a dope of Marc Jacobs daisy dream? I’ve been wearing it faithfully since it first came out
Any strawberry fragrances that comes to mind? Specifically, a fragrance that would work for a preteen?
Hello, it seems like Gucci made to measure has been discontinued since 2020. Is there like a way to still get it from a reputable source with guaranteed authenticity?
I have four PDM fragrances, they are all 100% legit from PDM directly so any experience I mention is real :-) They are also all 2024 batches (at least bought in 2024).
Discussion: I’m curious to where others spray their fragrances as depending on the individual, I need to spray in different places because they are different when it comes to projection.
Assume mild weather and not double layered shirt. Carlisle and Layton are obviously “reformulated” versions, not OGs.
Haltane: 2 sprays; 1 under my shirt and 1 on my neck. I originally did 3 — 1 behind each ear, and 1 under my shirt. Family told me I filled up the entire room (not ideal). This one projects like crazy.
Carlisle: 3 sprays; 1 behind each ear and 1 on chest. Seems to be right. This one projects little.
Percival: 2 sprays; 1 on chest and 1 on neck. This one projects like crazy.
Layton: 3 sprays; 1 behind each ear and 1 on chest. Seems to be right. This one projects little.
Mine was PDM Althair. Not because of the hype, but because I genuinely fell in love with it at my first smell. In fact, it’s kind of the only perfume I own… I do however spend at least an hour a week on testing different perfumes in Copenhagen, and the only reason that I don’t have more is because money doesn’t grow on trees, especially when the money you get comes from a 20$/month allowance from your parents and a part-time free time job at your local supermarket. Though, im still interested in hearing some of the JeremyFragrances here, perfume connoisseurs if you will, what your first perfume was :)
Has anyone tried any of these? The bottles are so beautiful and the juices are all different colours. They look like a beautiful rainbow when all presented together.
This appears to be Valentino’s “prestige” line (so, the designer-doing-niche) collection.
Punk Romantic especially sounds lovely. I think I’ll try and get some samples, but would love to hear if anyone has tried any from this collection!
Costco's website currently has some interesting and unexpected fragrances, with steep discounts off retail full-size cost!
Tom Ford Oud Wood -- 3.4oz for $240
DS & Durga I Don't Know What, Debaser, and Pistachio -- 3.4oz for $180
Armani/Prive Pivoine Suzhou -- 3.4oz for $135
They always have a lot of the Replica 3.4oz for $95, various Creed frags, and Jo Malone. A few months ago they had more Armani Prive, lots of Montale, and the less popular Byredo scents at similar discounts.
I've fairly recently embarked on my love of different fragrances, driven mainly by the sheer enjoyment of getting a whiff of something special and enjoying the nostalgia perfumes can produce.
To help me ground this further, I've actually been keeping a fragrance diary! Super early days as it's just for 2025 so far but I'm using it to keep track of:
I've also decided to limit my purchases for the forseeable future based on an elimination series from samples! Here's the results of Round 1, and what I thought about each fragrance after a night of testing. Note that this round is basically about getting rid of total rejects to my nose, the kind of scents that immediately repulse me etc. so no need to worry about trying them on for a day or whatever.
Round 1 Winners
1996 by Byredo - This literally smells like my childhood. Like, what my childhood bedroom smelled like. It's sort of creamy and smooth but has a pleasant lightness to it, while still being a real scent. Absolutely something I will wear.
Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens - Something instantly classic about this fragrance. It's a real PERFUME, something with its own voice that says its own name and nothing else. I can totally imagine a 1950s hollywood star wearing 17 sprays of this then going for cocktails.
Un Jardin sur la Toit by Hermes - This was very very refreshing to my nose. Like being hit with a blast of somehow delicious acqua. Something that had been filtered through fresh aromatic roots and distilled.
Mojave Ghost by Byredo - I totally understand the name. A light breeze has carried a few floating petals of some strange desert flower onto you. They cling to your sweat-soaked skin and when you inspect them closer they drip a sweet nectar with the hint of berries. This fragrance transforms even over a short time into something very complex and unique, IMO.
Round 1 Wildcard
Un Jardin en Mediterranee by Hermes - At first I found the very in-your-face, photographic zest in this fragrance off putting. Like I had totally faceplanted into a tangle of lemon trees and vines... but I started to like it with more sniffs, and can see it being such a wonderful summery statement that I might keep it in my back pocket for later use.
Round 1 Losers
Hwyl by Aesop - This was something I sort of predicted might happen. I think the danger of something meant to smell like a forest is you can just end up smelling like an air freshener in 2002. This was like rummaging my nose through a dirty forest floor, but with some deeply astringent afterburn added in for insult...
Tacit by Aesop - I actually like how this opened. It felt like a very plant-y citrus which I enjoy, but once that faded it immediately just stank of, once again, those horrendous air freseheners my aunt and grandparents loved so much. I almost smell licorice too, which I despise...
So, there we have it. I'll keep writing these sorts of things down in my Diary. Now, time to shower this Tacit off of my hand (ugh) and replace it with a good dose of Egoiste before I head out. Cheers!
I’ve seen it occasionally on discounters for $290-$300, and have been thinking about it, is it worth it to get it at this price considering it’s from Costco? Easy returns and all.
Hi all, Recently I’ve expanded my fragrance collection by buying minis or trial size- which are just stoppered bottles. Whether I like the scent or not, edt or edp, it doesn’t seem to last long at all when I just dab it on. Is my nose malfunctioning or is atomization crucial?🤔
As you all know collecting fragrances is quite an expensive hobby, but at what price is your limit? My most expensive fragrance was 160€ and that was with a heavy discount. But on the pride side I think it's the best one I own so far.
I was excited to try these and they smelled like nothing at all.
Plur missing person
Juliette has a gun not a perfume (I swear I used to be able to smell this?)
Glossier you (but I already knew this... the OG is my HG)
dedCool milk
DedCool xtra milk
The above were like spraying water. merit didn't smell like much either.
Am I right or do I have covid?
I went home with Clean Reserve whipped Cherry. Was surprised but it is just delightful.
I was so excited to buy my first signature scent (Good Girl Blush by Carolina Herrera) and I quite literally put it in my cart the night before. But the next morning I went to buy it and they had completely removed it from Fragrance.com.
Is it likely that they'll bring back the 1 once bottle? I'd prefer not to buy a bigger bottle but I also don't want to spend $40 more anyway else. :/
Any ideas are appreciated! I am cheap but I really adore this particular scent
At my job I work with high end perfumes and some body mists, and previously also used some from bath and body works, walmart, etc, and I have found one that works better than anything else with my skins PH - Candy by Prada!! It's my absolute favorite scent, and I often get told I smell "sexy", "sophisticated", and "expensive" while wearing it ♡ just,,, 100/10 scent
Dark Kiss by Bath and Body works also works okay and gets called "sexy" and "nice" on me often, and I use it for less special events.
Flashback a few months ago, my boyfriend and I was seated at a restaurant for brunch. While waiting for our order, a woman walked past me and I was immediately captivated by the scent of her perfume on her way out. The scent lingered in my memory since then. I never forget what it smelled like til this day, as if it was only yesterday. Ever since smelling that scent, I was on a mission to find what it is. I'm sure every woman can relate to this when we havent had a chance or is too shy to ask what another woman is wearing. It was definitely love at first sniff.
I'm very bad at describing a scent profile, but what stood out to me is it was musky & a little woody, something I gravitate towards obviously. It was soft a little sweet but not a full gourmand. After smelling it, it felt like I was lifted into a warm embrace, it has an angelic feel to it. I refuse to say clean bec I was never attracted to that kind of scents. It also had a cold, chilly feel to it.
After months and months of sampling, ordering decants. I was literally in tears when I finally found it. And I am 100% certain that it is what I smelled that day. It may be something most would consider a basic scent, but to me, the fact that I never forgot what it smelled like after almost 5 months of searching, it means a whole lot to finally find it! It is Byredo Mojave Ghost ☺️
I certainly cannot wait to get myself a bottle of this.
Release Year: 2019
Perfumer: Mathilde Bijaoui
Sillage: Mild sillage, half a foot and projection around 1 foot, but mostly skin scent
Longevity: 6+ hours (closer to 6-8 depending on skin chemistry). 10+ hours on clothes
Fragrance Profile: Woody, Creamy, Fruity, Lactonic, Mildly Sweet
Emotions it evokes: Meditative, calm, sophistication
Gender: Unisex
Age: any age
Season: All seasons
Occasion: All occasions except clubbing
Would I wear it?: Yes
Signature scent worthy: Yes
Story: Behind my grandmother's place wild fig trees grew abundantly. The extremely ripe fruits would fall on the road and just rot, releasing the sweet aroma in the air. The whistling breeze would pick up the scent and add flavor to the quiet beauty of sunsets while children played in the background - a testament to those quiet carefree childhoods.
During festive seasons, Mom would ask me to make sandalwood paste by gently grinding the sandalwood log in a circular motion on a higher-density sandalwood base plate. The scent of Mysore sandalwood is so aromatic that it would fill up the whole house as soon as the storage was opened. There is a reason why this is one of the most expensive, smuggled, most sought-after materials in the world
Opening: Initial sprays you are greeted with these incredibly dominant, sweet, and fruity fig notes, accompanied by the warmth and spice from cardamom, and the sweet and herbal qualities of black tea. These beautiful ingredients rest on a creamy woody sandalwood backbone making the opening into a fruity-woody olfactory experience- the one that diverges from the typical citrus-based openings in the market.
The fig experience is reminiscent of Diptyque Phyilosys and the black tea notes are of the highest qualities similar to LV imagination. This opening is complex, with the notes come together as a beautiful juxtaposition.
Mid: As we slowly transition into the mid phases (around 20 minutes), the fruity fig notes subtly fade into the background. The Black tea notes seamlessly blend with subtle, powdery Iris and woody vetiver. The Iris here is very subtle and does not lean into the lipstick-like quality.
Base: In the dry down, the scent is left with the sweet, lactonic, and woody qualities of Indian Sandalwood beautifully supported with sweet almond-like Tonka Beans and dryness from cedar wood. The woody base is present throughout the life of the perfume and can be considered a truly woody fragrance.
Conclusion: The fragrances that are easy to wear but complex are signs of great perfumery. Here the perfumer has masterfully blended an eloquent fragrance without being pushy. The choice of ingredients and composition is a testament to the skills of the perfumer.
This perfume is best appreciated in high-heat situations, is great for lounging around, in office settings where only people closest to you will pick up the scent. This is an undeniably signature scent-worthy.
This fragrance is perfect for the discerning intellectual, exuding a subtle allure and quiet confidence. It doesn’t shout for attention but speaks volumes through its understated sophistication
Bonus: The extrait version of this is the darker, deeper, and denser take of the original with lots of Patchouli. The EDP version can be layered over the extrait version and they blend in beautifully.
Hey one of my friends works for a perfumery and has discounts for som fragrances including most ADP and the MFK for the price I said. I haven’t smelt any of these but given the price I’m thinking it’s worth the blind purchase. I have no idea which one! Anyone know if the MFK is worth it given the 75% discount? Or are other aqua di Parma worth it
For those who are collectors or “may have a problem,” do you have a spreadsheet or some way of tracking your preferences and scent profiles? Or something else entirely? I’m sure many people just “know” what they have and could describe it to anyone. I’m asking about the total nerds out there.
I have ~20 frags and am likely going to have an addiction for life, so I’m also going to need a bigger place to put them. But I’m thinking about making some type of system to better understand my preferences and analyze scent profiles (and gaps in the profiles I have). Why? Because I’m a nerd, and I enjoy that crap.
Apparently this fragrance is called “EAD Astute Eau de parfum for her”. I couldn’t find it anywhere, I don’t think it’s available anymore. Does anyone here know what happened to this fragrance and if there is any available alternative to it on the market?
I recently got my hands on Ja by Frédéric Patric, and I have never smelled anything quite like it in my life. I have never fell in love with a fragrance this quick. I smelled it in the store in Turkey and I obsessed over the smell for 10 minutes then went right back and bought it. Best purchase of my life. My previous favourite perfume was Alexandria 2 by Xerjoff, but Ja stole my heart. If you have it or smelled it, you know what I mean. It’s incredibly rich, luxurious, and animalic—just oozing opulence. I’d love to find more fragrances in this vein. If anyone has recommendations for scents with a similar depth and character, I’d really appreciate it!
Safe to say I will keep purchasing this perfume all my life.
for reference:
top notes: vanilla, animalic, amber
heart notes: powdery, sweet, musk
bottom notes: tonka bean, labdanum, musk
Thank you and keep smelling amazing!
