I think I’ve found my favorite scent of all time

Not in terms of fragrance, just smells. Talcum powder/baby powder. I fucking love that smell, idk what it is about that smell, but it’s utterly relaxing, smooth, soft, and clean smelling. I wouldn’t mind a perfume that only smelled of baby powder. I could really really enjoy that.

Neroli and leather fragrances?

Am I crazy saying these notes are actually quite stunning together or are there fragrances that exist with these and I’m way late to the party?

Does Miss Dior parfum really smell like Miss Dior Cherie?

I've been dying to get my hands on something reminiscent of Cherie. I also loved Miss Dior 2012 and they seemed quite similar to my nose, but of course that's long gone too. Anyone who's tried it, is it close?

What is the most underrated designer fragrance?

Tbh I can’t get enough of Burberry Hero EDT. But I don’t see people talk about it as they usually tend to prefer the edp. What do yall think?

Reflections about Creed

I know it’s hard to justify the price, but I fell in love with Green Irish Tweed at first sniff. It feels like a style of perfume that is not unique, but it’s done so freaking good, and I think that’s the case for a lot of their fragrances. What are your thoughts on the brand? Do you think it has any fragrance that are worth the price or is it always a whim?

I know this must’ve been discussed a lot of times, but this just crossed my mind and maybe there are some of you interested on giving your thoughts on this

HabibiNY Custom Discovery Set Review - 5 Scents

Just came home to my discovery kit! This niche house offers custom samples for only $45 and it’s well worth the price, the presentation is gorgeous and the magnetic lid and testing strips are a great touch.

I ordered the new release Cashmere Oud, Sage and Citrus Oud, Spiced Bergamot and Orris, Desert Oud, and Urban Oud. I only tested them on paper so I expect the on skin experience will be different, not to mention I haven’t experienced the drydown, these are just first impressions.

Cashmere Oud - a sweet masculine scent, the saffron gives it a soft leather note and the fig is clearly what is giving it that sweetness. I haven’t enjoyed fig in other fragrances I’ve tried so far, but I like it in this, it’s not as dominating or photorealistic as the ones I’ve tried before. I think I’m picking up on the jasmine as well, and the oud in this house is always very clean and kind of cuts through the other notes to my nose

Sage and citrus Oud - really interesting, I think i like it, but the cumin top note is something I’m cautious about, I can definitely distinguish it from the other notes. The orange and lemon is not a sharp or biting citrus, but it does smell fresh. It’s hard to pick up the other notes on the paper, but I think I get hints of the lavender and black pepper in the mid

Spiced Bergamot and Orris - I definitely like this one, all the notes shine through here in a beautiful blend that still lets me pick them out if I focus. Bergamot, Cardamom, Black pepper, Sage, Geranium, Orris. Spiced, fresh, herbaceous, but grounded in a creamy/powdery orris. Very masculine, I’m almost certain I’ll end up with a bottle of this

Desert Oud - oh huh, it changed while I was writing reviews, I didn’t like this on first spray, it reminded me of fresh urinal cakes. But now smelling it again after it’s sat, I’m really into this! The clove and green notes almost but not fully cover the peach, and the florals are definitely adding depth, I think the rose and lily of the valley are the ones I’m picking up. The musk, woods, and incense-y notes do seem to be lurking in the background. I’m fascinated by how this thing did a total 180 on me when I wasn’t looking lol

Urban Oud - this is much like how I’ve seen it described, a modernized and westernized version of traditional middle eastern fragrance notes. The rose, mandarin, and nutmeg seem to be most prominent and I really like how they work together. I think I’m getting little bits of the orris, saffron, and vanilla, it’s hard to pick out the mid and base notes. The blend is really nice. It has a sweetness to it but I wouldn’t call it a sweet fragrance if that makes sense. Good stuff, I like it

Bleu de Chanel vs Lacoste Original (2024)

These scents are remarkably similar in that they achieve similar impressions on me. Here are my impressions of smelling both side by side on my wrist:

BdC

This is arguably the best grapefruit designer fragrance. Up front you get a white grapefruit that gives a dark mysterious feel to it followed by a woody/vetiver combo. The grapefruit star of the show unfortunately dies off after about an hour and you’re left with a pretty standard designer freshy dry down.

Lacoste

This really took me by surprise. It smells terrific! It opens with this bergamot/lime and lavender accord. It’s very well blended so as to not smell too sour or too floral. It’s notably brighter and softer than BdC. BdC smells more ‘wet’ like a guy getting out of the shower, whereas this is firmly in the aromatic category throughout. This one reminds me somewhat of givenchy gentleman only without the smoky note. I smell clary sage and cedar wood in the dry down.

I would categorize BdC as a citrus woody while Lacoste as an aromatic woody. Both are pleasant scents, super versatile, all year scents. Performance is identical.

As for which I like better, I’d give the Lacoste a slight nod because it smells more signature scent worthy to me. It smells more unique, fresh spicy where BdC reminds me of other citrus freshies on the market. While BdC probably has a better opening, Lacoste has a better mid and dry down. The Lacoste also works better with my skin chem.

BdC smells like a young guy on a date while the Lacoste smells like a logger’s jacket after a cold day in a Canadian forest - just a wholesome guy that’s down to earth not trying to impress anybody.

Fragrance office

I had a dream the other night that I was in a very fancy office, with dark red velvet, beautiful dark wood etc. In this office the walls were lined with cologne and there was a man sitting at a desk. This man was a perfume expert and these colognes were from his personal collection. He was willing to chat, educate, and sell his cologne. This was inspired by the xerjoff section of salon de parfums is Harrods for sure. As a 15 year old obsessed with the art of parfumerie it saddens me to see other children getting their fragrance education from Noel Thomas and Jeremy Fragrance. It is a dream of mine to open said cologne office with my private collection so kids like me and adults as well can be in a cologne sanctuary. It would take only 1 person/group at a time and reservation is required. Any questions may be asked. Does a place like this exist, and is it a good idea?

How to move Cologne/perfumes?

"Long story short: Over the past two years, I’ve accumulated around 75–100 fragrances. I’m currently in the process of moving to the UK and trying to figure out how to bring my fragrances with me.

I checked, and Air Canada says they’ll only allow up to 2L per passenger (in checked luggage).

Does anyone have any ideas?"

Any fire scent recommendations? (See description for more details)

I absolutely adore the smell of fire- or the smoldering ashes of something that was on fire. Not necessarily looking for a campfire scent (but if you have a rec in that dept, plz share!) - but I’m seeking something that smells more like when you’re walking down the street and think ‘is that a house on fire?’.

I am wearing Revolution from Trudon today, which has a fire quality to it, but is maybe too incense-y? I do adore incense fragrances, and Catholic Church scents, for context.

I’m just curious if there is a fragrance that smells like a fire in the distance. It’s one of the few things I’ve yet to find.

How do I quantify what I like about these fragrances?

I’m trying to add new fragrances to my collection but I never know how to verbally describe what the kind of fragrance I enjoy is. I’m not very good with my words in the first place and I always end up trying 100 fragrances the employee of the shop recommends but nothing hits the way I want it to.

Currently I own By the Fireplace by Replica, Red Tobacco by Mancera, and Inexcusable Evil by Toskovat’.

How would you describe these fragrances verbally without just saying the notes they have in common?

Fragrance bad manners

Is there bad etiquette for a perfume you hate the most, such as spraying perfume to cover up the smell of cigarettes after smoking or spraying perfume in front of food?

Looking for Eros Flame cap

I just recently bought a tester of eros flame, and thought the cap would come with it like the picture showed & that is not the case. I absolutely need the cap. Does anyone have an empty bottle or just the cap that they would be willing to send me?

Fragrance that smells like a fresh newborn baby head.

So I've been fantasizing about the way my son smelt when he was a newborn. I also held other babies in the past who had that similar newborn baby scent. I've been on a search to find a fragrance that mimics the exact scent of a 1 week old newborn baby's head. I don't understand why anyone haven't been able to replicate it yet however I feel like Glossier You is leaning close to it in a way. I need some help on trying to create an oil that's exactly like a newborn baby. So come to find out, that musky skin-like scent in Glossier is Ambrette and Ambroxan. So I feel like I could use that, and some other notes in Glossier but add some more, or not idk. Should linen/cotton, lactonic, and a cheese notes be added? I read that some people think their newborn babies have a somewhat sweet cheesey smell. What I picked up from my son when he was a newborn was, a light skin musk (like Glossier) that was milky, buttery, and sorta dryer sheet-like. I need to figure this out. Btw not baby lotion, I'm talking about that scent that's on their heads. HUUUUUH Gosh I want to smell that again.

perfumes that smell like Milbon products?

hi Reddit,

fully realizing that this might be a super niche post, but i’ve recently started going to a Japanese hair salon that sells Milbon hair products.

i’ve bought a few of them now and have noticed they smell absolutely incredible. the smoothing shampoo and treatment for medium hair both smell good.

the Molding Wax 3 to me however is the product that smells absolutely incredible. has this perfect balance between smelling clean and the perfect amount of sweet floral. i want to say it’s a cherry blossom reminiscent scent but i’ve never owned a cherry blossom perfume, so can’t say for sure.

if anyone has tried these products and knows of any similar smelling fragrances please (!!) let me know. thank you!

What note in Lattafa Khamrat is that, it smells like rum

I bought Lattafa Khamrat, and I really like it, smells like Christmas when times were better. In the opening there is one note, that smells similar to rum to me. It fades quite quickly. But there is no such note listed. Is this just the smell of the alcohol that's not vaporized yet interacting with the other notes? Or am I misinterpreting another note? Guys I'm curious.

Someone said my Armaf Precieux smells like Raid...

I recently bought Armaf Precieux and have been testing it out. I think it smells nice and is the highest quality Armaf I've ever smelt, but am still on the fence about it. I find it smells similar to other scents, but doesn't project very well. However, I may be wrong with the projection part as someone entered the room around 5hrs after spraying and said it smells like the bug spray Raid in here. They asked if someone was spraying it. It's only me, so they had to be referring to my fragrance.

I was once wearing supremacy silver which has a similar aventus style DNA and someone said it smells like pollen in here. I also was wearing supremacy not only intense, which again is a different take on the aventus DNA and someone just gave a gross face look. I just can't seem to win with anything aventus style lol

Everyone says the aventus style scents give them so many compliments, but have any of you guys had really negative comments while wearing any of them?

Chanel vs Dior and why?

Which house is your preference. If you could only wear or choose one, and why? I know it’s an age old debate but, for the longest time, I had Dior by a mile. Not necessarily because the fragrances are better but I’d say they’re at least as good and there seem to be more options. But I’ve picked up a few more Chanel and now I’m almost handedly flipping to Chanel. The Chanel I have are the typical ones (eau ext., platinum, Bleu edp and parfum, pour monsieur, and Antaeus). The Dior are Sauvage edp and elixir, eau sauvage parfum 2017 and 2012, DHI, 2020 and Fahrenheit le parfum. Not that it matters which house you’d pick, just curious what would sway any of yall?

Tom Ford Ombré Leather... quite feminine?

First of all, hi! I'm a noob, so please don't kill me.

So, I'm on a fragrance bender ever since I decided to revisit some old loves (namely Paco XS and YSL L'homme), and then proceeded to get like 18 other decants lol.

So, I came across Ombré Leather, it checked all the boxes I was looking for in a nighttime scent and well, I fell in love with this fragrance... but for a different reason than I expected.

Everybody said MASCULINE, BOLD, LEATHER, SHOESHOP, COWBOYS (lol wat). So I went with it.

However... it really reminds me of my girlfriend! I don't know which perfume it reminds me of (she's living abroad rn), but Ombré Leather has this very sweet floral scent and is so rounded and pretty, for sure it has a dark side but that is not the main actor for me. Way different than I expected.

In all the reviews I saw, nobody mentioned this, nor does the TF website, and a search for "unisex" or "feminine" returned nothing.

Does anyone else know what I mean or am I way off and need to calibrate? Again, I'm a noob so I'm willing to course-correct. For me, masculine is Terre d'Hermes, Acqua di Gio, Starwalker, YSL Y. They're sharp and straight, but the Tom Ford for me is pretty and sweet, and smells like a beautiful woman in a 60's luxury car. Not a cowboy.

(just a disclaimer: i wouldn't even care if it was marketed towards women, i'd still wear this thing lol it's just stunning).

Needed name of old perfume description below

Looking for a perfume my mum used to wear 10-15 years ago (UK), it was a female body shape (neck to thighs), and it wore a bodysuit that had orange patterns. I can't describe what it smelled like other than my mum. Have Googled a few times but no luck, think my memory of it is a bit too vague but I want to avoid asking her as I want it to be a surprise. Thanks!

Are you OK, Lattafa?

I went to order the new His and Her confessions on lattafa-usa.com but the website wouldn't take me to the payment page. I gave up and backed out, after they had my shipping and email info. I got an email from marketing@lattafa-usa.com saying "With your specialty plant purchase, you will receive an instructional care guide. This comprehensive guide is designed to provide you with all the necessary information to ensure the health and vitality of your new plant." (Image attached) https://imgur.com/a/gb7nTb2

I went to email lattafa through their included customer service email contact hello@lattafa-usa.com but when I clicked the hyperlink to automatically start an email, it changed to hello@beautyhouse.com

I have ordered my Lataffa off of Amazon and Joma previously, so I had no idea that their website and email service were absolute chaos!!

Has anybody successfully had a purchase? Is this website, and the associated emails, a scam?

Looking for Comps

Hey I posted to the discussion thread yesterday but never got a response. I am looking for similar scents to Versace Man Eau Fraiche. My (34m) wife (35f) really likes the scent but she isn’t like crazy about it. I’ve tried Bvlgari Aqva, Bleu de Chanel, Hawas and ADG Profundo which she all said were ok, but nothing mind blowing. I love trying new things and I want to eventually find one she absolutely loves so I’m open to suggestions! She was not a fan of Sauvage and one she absolutely did not like was Club de Nuit Intense, which I’ve read either you like it or hate it lol.

Still learning about fragrances too, what do these scents qualify as? Sporty, aquatic, citrusy, woody? To me they just smell good and I have no idea what to call the smells! Thanks in advance!

Remember Tocadilly?

Does anyone remember Tocadilly? It was supposed to be the younger sister of Tocade by Rochas, and was a really strange green/aquatic/fresh from Christopher Sheldrake. I don't see much discussion of Sheldrake's rare non-Serge Lutens perfumes and this one was paritcularly great and odd.

What words do you use to describe conifer tree notes?

Like fresh pine, cypress, or juniper. What are all the keywords you would use to describe what kind of "notes" you smell in these? Is this type of scent woody? Green? Herbal? Balsamic (is balsamic supposed to smell like the vinegar?)? They come across a bit citrusy to me, but I don't know if that's correct because I wouldn't expect to come across pine-y scents if I were looking for a citrus fragrance online. I don't have the language to describe fragrances yet, so there's no answer too basic, and please don't assume I have literally any base knowledge here.

Reviews of: Ormaie Tableau Parisien and 28 degrees

Ormaie is a French house that I am not familiar with. Somehow both similar yet entirely different in their scent profiles, I find them intoxicating and yet one of them incredibly more enjoyable to wear.

Tableau opens with a dizzying and rich amber warm bomb of spice and sweet floral notes. Despite it containing my arch nemesis note of tuberose, this doesn’t turn too white floral on me which I am thankful for. Instead, this is a full on onslaught of delicious syrupy sweetness in the best way possible. Suited best for cooler weather although I continue to wear it during warmer temperatures because the sociopath in me takes too much pleasure in bathing within the warm sweet wave that it envelopes me in.

28 degrees is one where I can see the beauty of it yet it’s not for me. It is truly a white floral lovers fragrance; smooth and silky jasmine and tuberose are blended to perfection and paired with rose. Stunning and elegant yet a little too much for me as I have a strong aversion to most things of a white floral construction. Again though, by no means does it make it a bad fragrance; I can tell it’s been crafted, blended and lovingly thought out. No generic DNA exists within it and for those of you who crave a modernized nod to classical white florals will swoon for it.

Fragrances and wind

I tend to ask myself if wind has an impact on fragrances. Before going to school i spray my scandal absolu, except that i'm going to school with an e-scooter(so going at 30kmh for 10mins) and i feel like when i arrive the fragrance disappeared,or atleast doesn't project as good as it should. Is this true or am i just getting noseblind?
