Is "Forever" actually finished?

So I just watched 4 episodes and really liked the show, but then I learned that it was cancelled. So is the story at least somewhat finished? I'd hate to watch a great show only for it to leave me at a cliffhanger

Finished rewatching

This was probably my 20th rewatch. What a great show. I love everything about it. Still agonizing about the cliffhanger. Still sad that it’s all we are ever going to get from Henry and Jo.

Unexpected actor discovery

I went to see the Groundhog Day musical last night starring Andy Karl and was shocked to see that in his bio in the playbill, it listed a role in Forever! I looked it up and it turns out he played Jo's husband Sean in the videos of him. Now I want to rewatch Forever again just to see him with this new knowledge (plus I'm due for a rewatch anyway lol)

Theory?

The reason the gun didn’t work in stopping him was because the flintlock didn’t kill him. The drowning did. Notice that Adam was never re-stabbed by the dagger, hmmmmm? So we don’t know if being killed by the first weapon that made you this way actually works.

So my theory is that Henry died by drowning & not the gunshot.

Ending theory - Henry now Mortal?

I have loved this show since the first time I saw it years ago, recently I watched it again and of course we learn that their First death/weapon doesn't kill them permanently. But a thought occurred to me, the name of the episode is the FINAL death of Henry Morgan, so could it be, the FINAL "immortal" death, as in being killed again with the gun has only killed his immortality, and he is now mortal?

Thoughts??

I read through the other threads and didn't see anything similar so figured I ask. Also watching loved shows all over again, knowing they won't be renewed and you get those answers sucks.

Resurrection

What would happen if at a point in time there is no more water on earth for Adam and Henry to resurrect. Would they permanently die or would they come back to life once water is reintroduced to earth

What are your top 5 episodes from this show?

Here are mine, in no particular order. I don’t memorize all the names of the episodes but I can give a brief summary of the plot:

  • Episode 11 (Skinny dipper, where the anonymous caller’s identity is revealed)

  • Episode 6 (Jack the ripper and Black Dahlia copycat killer)

  • Episode 21 (where the truth about what happened to Abigail is revealed)

  • Episode 22 (action packed episode with a heavy focus on Adam/Henry conflict + the cliffhanger ending for the finale)

  • Episode 19 (The case about Eddie Warsaw. Although a filler episode, it was still very entertaining).

Where to watch "New Amsterdam"

The show "New Amsterdam" has been mentioned here a few times, I thought I'd make a top-level post pointing anyone who's interested to where it can be watched for free. The show dates from 2008, and has a lot in common with "Forever," as well as both 1992 immortal series "Highlander" and "Forever Knight." Having finally been able to watch it, I think it is worthy to join these illustrious predecessors along with "Forever".

Be warned, it only got to air eight episodes, so the ending is a lot less satisfying than "Forever," although not as throw-a-brick-at-your-TV as the ending of "Forever Knight" was….

What I imagine Forever could have been in a 5 season arc

Well, I have given this a lot of thought (more than I am comfortable sharing) and I have come with the following "points" that I wish we could have seen in a perfect world, where Forever lasted for 5 seasons.

  • Season 1, that's all we got and it's perfect.

  • Season 2: Henry finds the way to avoid telling the truth to Jo; in the middle season finale, Lucas would figure out Henry's secret; Abe would find something about Abigail, and would try to conceal it from Henry for the rest of the season; some mysterious figure would appear at Adam's bedside and kill him. Lucas would die and then reborn.

  • Season 3: Henry would show Lucas the trope of immortality. Jo's husband's death would be explored further and would have been the season's arc. Henry would meet another immortal, a woman (late 40's, from the middle ages), they would start a relationship. In the season finale, it would be revealed that Jo's husband wasn't really killed, but had to fake his own death because he is an immortal as well. Abe, with the help of Lucas, would discovered that Henry's immortal girlfriend was responsible for freeing Adam. Lieutenant Reece would be killed off.

  • Season 4: A love triangle would develop between Jo, Henry and her husband. Adam would return to cause terror in Henry's life, culminating with an attempt on Abe's life, but would end with now Lieutenant Mike getting badly injured. In the season finale, Lucas would have a fallout with Henry and Adam would take his chance and try to influence him. Jo would finally put two and two together and confront Henry about his immortality.

  • Season 5: A series of flashbacks would show how Adam became the man he is today. Lucas grows more and more uneasy about Adam's plans and Adam shows his hand (he has always know how end other's immortality, he demonstrates it by finishing Jo's husband). A small child appears at Henry's doorstep, they are also an immortal, the oldest immortal of them all. They have been tracking down Adam and need Henry's assistance. Abe is mortality wounded in the penultimate episode of the series. Jo rescues Henry and helps him defeat Adam, however, it requires the joint sacrifice of Henry, Lucas and the ancient child to do so. In the last moments of the show, Jo dies and reborns. However, is revealed she isn't an immortal, but is pregnant with one.

What are your thoughts?

Where do you think it was heading?

Anyone have any theories about how and why Henry is immortal? Was Abigail right about there being a higher purpose to it? What about Adam? Was he chosen for a purpose, and if so, was he still heading towards fulfilling it or had he lost his way too badly?

Matt Miller always implied in interviews that he had some sort of a plan, but never gave much to go on as to what. (And if anyone ever gets the chance to interview him, please ask him about it!)

ETA: I'm talking specifically about Henry's immortality and what's behind it, not plans for the second season in general.

Love Forever!

I saw this show on TikTok recently and finished it in just two days. It's such a shame that this show was cancelled after just one season, but I'm glad it's gaining attention again because of TikTok. Many people in the comment section seem interested and want to watch it. I kind of wish this show was on Netflix so that it could gain more attention. I thought that if we all request it on Netflix, maybe that could happen? Just want this show to get the attention that it deserves lol.

Piano music used in some of the flashbacks?

Does anyone know what that background piano music is when Henry has flashbacks? It’s used in the 19th century ones mostly, like the flashback of Nora getting him taken to an asylum in London because she doesn’t believe his immortality…

Favorite Henry quote?

Here's my top 5:

  1. "The day when killing another person doesn't affect you, that's when you got real problems." -Ep. 6

  2. "Our body feels pain to warn us of danger. But it also reminds us of we're alive, that we can still feel. That's why some of us seek it out...while others choose to numb it. Solitude has always been my analgesic of choice. But what if feeling nothing is the worst pain of all? What if the sharing of pain connects us to others and reminds us that none of us is alone as long as we can feel it?" -Ep. 8

  3. "What we try to hide about ourselves in life is revealed in death -- our fears, our insecurities, but most of all, our secrets." -Ep. 10

  4. "Murder is never an easy thing to look at. When you examine the body of a victim, you don't see the reflection of their life, but the person who took it. You see whether the killer felt anger or betrayal...or worse...if they felt nothing at all." -Ep. 6

  5. "What kills you is not what causes your heart to stop beating. It's what prevents you from living." -Ep. 13

Painting in episode?

In Episode 1x04 The Art of Murder, the painting that it centers around. Does anyone know what is is actually called? Does it hang at that museum , or was it created for that episode? The artist they name (as far as I can tell) does a completely different style of art.

Why doesn't Henry keep a hidden stash of clothes by the waterfront?

I was showing my sister the show for the first time and I started wondering about this.

Henry D from the Time Traveler's Wife also has an uncontrollable public nudity problem but his reappearances are a lot more random. However, in the place where he does appear multiple times he makes sure there's clothes in a secure spot where he could always find them.

What's Henry M's excuse? He appears in the same place every time. Now I know there's a lot of people that walk around NY, but Henry has been around the block for a hot minute. He could definitely find a good spot.

Ade and kids

Just finished a rewatch after a long time.

And I know people don't have to have kids. But it makes me sad that Ade didn't have any.

Do you think a kid (as an adult obviously )could have popped up in a later season.

Imagine Henry being g around to see great great grandchild. It would also help Ade to k kw that Henry won't be alone.
