Season expectations?

Outside of FCC, I really don’t follow other players or teams, so it’s hard for me to realistically judge our team when there are a bunch of player moves.

What should a realistic expectation be this year? Are we still near the top of the table potential, or are we falling behind?

Jimmy McLaughlin days until our first match!

One of the OGs from the USL days, Jimmy Mac was a fixture on the pitch at Nippert and a fan favorite. Known by some as the “Pennsylvania Messi”, he made 103 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and adding 8 assists.

He was one of nine players to transition from the USL team to the MLS side but unfortunately suffered an ACL tear, spending 2019 in rehab. He entered 2020 without a contract but fought to earn a deal with the club coming out of training camp. Another injury sidelined him that year, and his sole MLS appearance came in the final minute of an October 28 loss to Minnesota.

Bonus fact: Jimmy signed a homegrown contract with the Philadelphia Union before moving to the USL for more playing time. He was very likely the first in the Union to FCC pipeline.

WIP Kubo Sketch

Whatever happens with Kubo, I appreciate everything he's done for our team and our city. Wanted to get a quick cartoon of him done before any news broke (it's also a coping mechanism). I have been watching a lot of Captain Tsubasa lately lol

Matt Miazga days (21) until our first match!

Matt Miazga may be an asshole - but he’s our asshole. His antics on the field are what make him a great defender. He was the centerpiece of a stout defense in 2023 and earned the league’s defensive player of the year award.

Do I wish there was less of his antics? A little. Did they cost us a star on our badge? Maybe.

If gaining his defense and leadership on the field is the benefit of the antics - I’ll make that trade. It took the team a better part of half a season to replace Matt after his injury. Hopefully he returns to form this year… antics and all.

Gerado “Dado” Valenzuela days until our first match.

20-year-old Gerado “Dado” Valenzuela is the seventh FCC Academy product to sign a contract with the first team. His deal keeps him in Orange and Blue through the 2026 season with club options through 2028.

Dado has made 39 appearance for the first side and opened his MLS account (to steal a Tommy G phrase) during that 6-1 thrashing we gave Miami this summer.

Some goal highlights: First start, first goal: https://x.com/fccincinnati/status/1763019975118234071?s=46&t=rEnyKnDpqrHWXQev5qoBQQ

First MLS goal: https://x.com/footballreprt/status/1809758581035618439?s=46&t=rEnyKnDpqrHWXQev5qoBQQ

The Lucho drama may give Dado a chance to step up and show he’s ready for some significant first club minutes. Let’s hope he’s ready for the challenge.
