Sociology 101

For sociology 101, could anyone give me an advice on if I should take O. Johnson or T. Scott? Is soc 101 standardized(like are all exams and work the same even though you have different professors)? How are those two professors in terms of grading workload? I would appreciate any help!

How competitive is CLSS?

Title. I’m a sophomore (Pre-law, Econ major) here and i’m interested in applying for the Center for Law and Social Sciences Fellowship for my junior year. I’ll be taking POLS 208 in the Spring, is there any thing else I should be doing to make myself a more competitive candidate for this?

Social Scene

How is the social scene at Emory. I’m not expecting it to be something crazy like UGA but what is that part like?

Grad student home ownership?

Thinking about grad school here and buying a home (condo) in ATL. Have any PhD students been able to afford a mortgage/property taxes/HOA fees on their PhD stipend? What was your max budget for buying a home assuming 20% down-payment?

Edit: I would be doing this alone/no partner but am open to getting a 2B and having a roommate to offset the mortgage

phd housing

hi! i see that questions like this get asked all the time, but i was going to add some specifics that may make it a little different:)

my partner and i would be moving around next may-august, and were wondering if there were any places that were chill, clean, safe, have parking, and have an on-site washer and dryer while being affordable (because of living off a phd stipend & my partner’s income). i know it’s a tall order, but just thought id ask!

any apartment style is chill:)

Safe, Clean Apartments?

I’m considering Emory for grad school next year and I’m currently looking at off-campus housing options in the area. However, nearly every apartment complex I come across has reviews related to rat/roach infestations, vehicle burglaries and vandalism, or just other general issues. I know nearly all housing options will have issues like these, but are there any standout “nice” complexes or neighborhoods in the area? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Straightforward study tips

Hey all, I’m a 3rd year med student currently in clinical rotations now. I actually did my undergrad here at Emory. With the clinical hours and expectation to still study for end-of-rotation exams during the day, I’ve been looking to hone in on proven, straightforward study strategies that have really helped me in the past and now, as a way of also paying it forward to premed students who will get to this point down the line. Would love the help of premed students in filling out this list!

  • I’m a big fan of practicing like you perform. If the test consists of multiple-choice-questions, you have to practice with multiple-choice-questions to know where you stand. If it’s short answer, or problem-solving like OChem, then that’s what your preparation should be focused on. Figure out early the format of the “performance” and do as much faithfully simulated practice as possible.

  • I’ve found that active recall is king. Anki is a great tool to help with this and it’s effective for several people, although there’s a learning curve. In general, I even found myself recalling even on tests how the conversation went with myself and others I’ve studied with, and that led me to landing on the right answer.

  • Creating an environment with “productive discomfort” has helped me significantly. For me this looks like a study cubicle in our student center with a thermos of coffee, bottle of water, headphones, and a fidget spinner.. Along with my study materials of course, lol. The act of driving there on a cold morning, setting up shop, and it being just the wrong temperature focuses my mind.

Are you all fans of these strategies? Let me know your favorite strategies as a premed student how you optimize your studying! And if you’d like to chat more, feel free to dm me.

Idk if church work applies as volunteer work since Im involved in some positions at church?

Question About Q1 Grades(HS)

Hi I’m a prospective student and due to my loss of my grandparents, I wasn’t able to focus on school much this fall and I got lower grades (b’s to a-‘s). I was just wondering if Emory usually requests quarter grades for ED1 applicants since I will be EDing, thanks!

Freshman having a car on campus

Hi! I am a freshman at Emory this year and while I love many aspects of this school, one part that I find annoying is the public transportation and the difficulty of getting out of the Emory bubble without a car. I know freshmens aren't allowed to own cars but I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this. I am living on campus but I have no idea where I could park a car overnight near the dorms and am a little scared of the consequences if I get caught, so I was wondering if someone could let me in on a few tips. Thanks!

Careyaya Experience

If you done careyaya before, please drop your reviews or experience working for them. I have been with them for a month but many of the reviews I look for say that they're the best for college students wanting experience when entering healthcare.

Is psychox 110 really that bad ???

I checked the ratemyprofessor reviews for professors that are offering 110 and they're all not very confidence boosting. Is it that the content is difficult or that the professors make it difficult?

edit: psych_ox, as in Oxford
