What is the point of acids like Sulfuric Acid and Hydrochloric Acid in solutions? I know they help break down Anodes into ions/salts, but if I for example, bought powdered Copper Sulfate and put it into the solution, would I even need acid?
If that's the case, could I forgo a Copper Anode and instead use a Graphite Anode? I'm aware this would prevent the solution from replenishing, but I can just add more Copper Sulfate, no?

Looking for a recipe with exact amounts for making 1 gallon of plating solution, I’m using battery acid instead of sulfuric acid

A friend of mine makes silver and copper electroformed jewelry and she sends it off to be gold plated. Her plating supplier is shutting down after 50 years in business and I’m curious if anyone on here knows of someone who can plate jewelry for her.
Here’s the details:
Our jewelry is made through silver electroforming and copper electroforming. Plating needs to be a shiny nickel-free plating of 18k and rose gold plating as thick as possible (3+ microns). We wrap the pieces on copper wire for your tanks, need them done once or twice a month with about a 2 week turnaround time.
I am a beginner and I’m trying to get a kit ready I would prefer to buy all my stuff off of Amazon, but I’m having trouble figuring out if there is a viable option for sulfuric acid on Amazon does anybody know if there’s any good options for Amazon or do I have to go outside of Amazon to purchase it?
Hey there! I'm purchasing what all I need for my first electroforming set up! :) I've picked out some filters for my anodes, a magnetic stirrer, and of course a power supply. I went to Lowe's yesterday to pick out some copper pipes but I was told by the staff to purchase my copper else where to save money.. really I think the employees just didn't want to walk over to the isle to help take down the pipe for me... Regardless I left without the pipe as I felt weird after being told to go look elsewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can purchase copper pipe for cheap or are there any effective substitutes for the pipes like using wire instead? I've seen people use copper sheeting but I'm worried I'll accidentally mess it up somehow. Any tips/advice would be appreciated thank you 🥹
Hi everyone,
As the title suggests, I am facing issues in zinc plating a mild steel product. I do alkaline zinc plating (trivalent passivation). After this I powdercoat the product.
The problem is that after about a week or two, red rust forms in the inside of the part or a crevice in the product (Have attached photos of a window stay and the back of a door handle both showing red rust inside.
I apply rust preventive oil and water based lacquer after powdercoating which has greatly minimised this issue. However it is time consuming and a hassle.
So am pretty desperate for any advice on how to overcome this. Any inputs would be appreciated. The photos showing the issue are linked below: https://u.cubeupload.com/Temporalator/Screenshot2024111117.jpg

Hello, Reddit! I've just recently gotten into the hobby with the intent of electroplating some of my 3d prints. I'm on a budget, so obviously looking to make my own conductive paint, since everything I'm finding online is around the $50/8oz range. O.O
I've found DOZENS of recipes for DIY conductive paints, but nothing about the kind of resistance I should be looking for. Since this is going to be my first foray into plating onto non-metallic objects, I'd like to remove as many variables as possible during my attempts, and the only place I've found with hard numbers claims 3-4KOhms per centimeter, but it's very obviously an AI-generated site and I really don't trust it.
Is anyone who has good success with their own home-made conductive paint willing to share their target, or to measure the resistance ON AN OBJECT for me and report back? I specify on the object, because I'm getting very different results when I measure my DIY formulas on paper (anywhere from 200Ohms to 10KOhms per cm, depending on the recipe), versus on the object itself (anywhere from 2KOhms to 600KOhms, depending on the recipe).
Hey, so I always dry out my botanicals before using (leaves ect) but I've seen videos of what appears to be people using them without being dried. This would be so much easier in terms of manipulating them but would it work ok? Thanks!

Hey Please share me any books or guides or any instructional articles you have found on this topic Thanks
As in title, I bought a bunch of varnishes and I tried my first one which is decoupage, varnish and a glue and this is what I got when I mixed it with graphite powder.

I have had good experiences with China ink and graphite powder so far. However, the quality varies depending on the manufacturer of the ink and sometimes even the batch. I also test electroforming and the color of the China ink can sometimes hardly be removed from the copper.
Shellac is an elementary component of China ink. This can also be bought separately in dry and liquid form in art supply stores. Has anyone ever tried mixing only shellac and graphite?
I was wondering if you know how much chlorine should be on your tank (parts per liter) if you're using Midas brightener on a copper solution.
