How did you imagine the characters?

my ideas of random characters:
Zaphod: looked like Beppy the clown from Cuphead but with 2 heads.
Arthur: like Harry Sullivan from Doctor Who
Ford: Black haired Bob Ross with a tuxedo
Marvin: sad version of the O2 wifi mascot
Trillian: at first, I imagined Shanda Jimenez from Gravity Falls, and then adult version of Chara from Undertale
Slartibartfast: garden gnome

Uh oh

A "super pod" of dolphins Has been sighted near California. If they suddenly disappear, I'd strongly suggest grabbing your towel and hitching the next interstellar transport otta here.

My Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster Recipe

Since I am turning 42 this year, I decided to celebrate by having a small get together and serving the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As you know, most of the ingredients can't be found on Earth, so I had to get inventive. My recipe, for all interested:

  • 1.5 oz Bacardi Limon
    • (Part 1 of the Ol' Janx Spirit_
  • 1/4 oz Limoncello
    • (Part 2 of the Ol' Janx Spirit)
  • 3/4 oz Drumshambo Gunpowder Gin with California Citrus
    • (The mega-gin)
  • 1/3 oz Clear Creme de Menthe
    • (Hypermint)
  • 5 drops salt water
    • (water from the Seas of Santraginus V)
  • Carbonated Lemonade
    • (Fallian marsh gas)
  • Citric acid
    • (Zamphour)
  • Sugar cube with 2 drops orange food color and 1 drop red
    • (tooth of Algolian suntiger)
  • Edible glitter
    • (not in the original recipe, added for spacely flair)
  • Lemonade ice cubes
    • (To keep the drink cold and prevent it from getting watered down.
  • Olive

Before hand:

  • Make the ice by pouring lemonade into an ice mold
    • Optional: add red or orange food color to the ice
  • In a rocks glass, add the edible glitter, dyed sugar cube, and lemonade ice cubes
    • Adding the sugar cube first helps spread the color faster than just dropping it in, to give the effect of "spreading the fires of the Algolian Suns"

When serving:

  • In a shaker add all 4 liquors and the salt water
  • Shake with regular ice.
  • Strain into the rocks glass
  • Top off with the fizzy lemonade
  • Sprinkle the citric acid on top
  • Add one olive on a cocktail pick
  • Lastly, Drink....but.... very carefully...

Need idea help for one part of an HHGG tattoo

Hi all, longtime hitchhiker here, been rereading the series once a year since I first started in 2001. I recently got my first HHGG tattoo (a 42 with a font and interior texturing that I worked up with my artist, very original I know) and am planning my second. It’s going to be god’s final message (“Sorry for the inconvenience”) placed in the lens(es) of the kind of tourist/boardwalk binoculars that Arthur and Fenchurch used to help Marvin see the message, but I am having trouble finding a good model image for the binoculars/lenses. If anyone has any links or ideas for that part, they’d be one hoopy frood.

The President's role

After the latest news regarding USA annexing Canada and Greenland, I really couldn't think of anything but the following:

The President in particular is very much a figurehead — he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.

It's crazy how this book is still relevant today!

Good Complete Edition for Bookshelf

Hi all, I’ve been looking for a good set / complete edition of the hitchhikers guide books. I know I’ve seen editions that have all the books together in one and I was wondering what the consensus was here. What versions do you all own?

Dolphins?

So when the dolphins left “Earth” they took off from the oceans as one would expect. But I questioned last night what type of ships they were in. I know this is far fetched but what if Douglas was right all along and this is the beginning of the end. The drones are just their way of saying “So Long and Thanks For All the Fish”

''Only one person could have written this.''

Once upon a time I was watching a show that aired in the 70's and I heard a line that Douglas Adams had to have written.

Sure enough, he had a writing credit on that episode. And he undoubtedly wrote that line.

Did any of you get to have that experience?

Ok this may be an unpopular opinion but it’s mine and I have every right to mention it

I rather dislike books 5 and 6 of hitchhikers, this is mostly due to personal preference. Some people like at least book five,Even though Douglas himself has satiated even he didn’t like how Mostly Harmless turned out because he was having a downer year for many and varied reasons and you just can’t write a decent comedy science fiction book while you are down in the dumps. And I believe that most of us can agree book six was bad because it was written by someone trying to do a decent imitation of Adams but had no fucking clue what he was doing at all. For me the series ends with So Long and Thanks, with Arthur and Fenchurch traveling together around the galaxy secure in the knowledge that the Earth will still be where they left it when they returned, Ford doing his job and returning to HanDol city to look up the working girl he met when he learned that the earth had been replaced, and Zaphod and Trillion raising their children and having a wild time on the heart of gold
