I always need to bite on something.

I (24F) have been doing crash diets for years now, after struggling with eating disorders during my teenage years and ruining my metabolism.

I used to be a smoker, then a vaper, and I’ve completely stopped about a year ago now. Since then, I’ve gained over 8 kg, or about 18 lbs. I’m still not fat, however, I definitely am overweight now at almost 150 lbs for 5’4. In my adult life, the most I had ever weighed was 134.

I am not always hungry however, I find that I always need to bite on something. It is very frustrating and I only feel relief when eating, mainly bread or carbs. The texture is what I’m after. I have tried gum, but it was so much that I had jaw cramping and a very bloated stomach almost everyday from the aspartame.

I don’t know what I can do to help, and it is frustrating as eating seems to be the only thing that gives me relief. I do not miss vaping in the slightest, however, because of this weight gain and what it has done to my self esteem, I am considering going back.

Any advice ???

I stopped alcohol, refined sugar and processed food for a month at 40

I stopped alcohol, refined sugar and processed food for now about a month

I had stopped alcohol already for a while and despite already this big change and working out every week 3 to 4 times and having zero soda drinks, my cardiologist told me that my bad cholesterol levels were even higher than last year. As well as a liver enzyme was in the red. I felt so disappointed but I knew what was the problem: daily chocolate breaks, chocolate waffles, cereal sugary bars at work, cold cuts and cheese (yes… we are big fans of raclette and cheese fondue at home). It was then time to make a big big change. How did I feel? At first? Massive headaches for the first 3 days of no sweet, I was on a business trip in Paris with huge buffets of desserts and I haven’t touched anything except for the fruits. This was hard!!! I felt very tired, and weak. I lost 3kg, the % of body fat is going down as I continue working out regularly. The look of my body is so good! My skin is much smoother. After 30 days, I now feel more energetic, happier, and I sleep so well! I am super proud of this achievement and I am continuing. This is a new lifestyle: more veggies, fruits, no alcohol, finding alternative healthy desserts, proteins in non-red meat options. And you? Have you tried this and what else have you decided to change? I am always up for a challenge :)

Keto flu if not keto?

Hi! This may sound like it doesn't have to do with diet, but bear with me. Actual question at the bottom.

I've been sick for about 4-5 days, and I've been hoping I'm not actually sick (lol). Headache (although I'm fine in the morning until I start blowing my nose). I'm weak, dizzy, brain fog (feels like I'm off my antidepressants), nausea around once a day today, yesterday, and the day before. I haven't done a covid test yet, and I'm not doubting because I've been having 'hayfever' symptoms for about 3 weeks (it's Spring here).

So, I got a covid test to use for tomorrow. But I am thinking about keto flu, which might be easier to treat? The reason I'm thinking about keto flu is because I have cut my calories and carbs A LOT to lose weight.

Basically, I got really sick from my eating disorder (the physical problems snowballed; I didn't 'choose' to get sick) and almost died, and recovered body functions and such after hospital visit by eating things like chocolate because I was so scared of my stomach hurting/getting nauseous again. I've been trying to fix things. Lately, I've made a huge breakthrough partially because I legitimately need to lose weight, partially because I started feeling ready.

I've been eating salads, cooked greens, even meat again. So, just organically, going from chocolate and toast and other easier-to-digest foods to 'healthier' foods with more fibre, I have cut my calories to ~35-50% of what they were just a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how many carbs the comparison is; I haven't compared yet. I didn't even think about putting mock days into Cronometer but I probably should...

The actual question: does one need to actually be in ketosis to get keto flu? I read online that the actual cause isn't known, but I don't have any data on whether it only happens at the start of ketosis, or if it happens to people who simply cut down a lot on carbs.

I need help

I really want to improve my diet, but I have some problems… All my life I had literally 3-4 meals that I’d ever eat, and they would be super simple and not very nutritious. Also, my appetite is very bad, I can’t really eat a lot. I’ve always been classified as a picky eater and I always myself thought that I really am, but turns out I have some kind of problem with my body, enzyme deficiency or some other problem related to biochemistry, which really made sense to me. Not because I don’t like a lot of different foods, I’m really sensitive to them, for example I have bad sensory issues when it comes to certain foods, and one of the biggest problems is meals with mixed ingredients (eg. burgers). I really, really want to at least attempt improving my eating habits, all the food I eat comes down to like 1 single vegetable, no fish, for meat I can only tolerate chicken, like 2-3 types of fruit and that’s kind of it. I know my diet is ruining me and I really need help or some kind of advice since I’m not sure who to ask.

Sorry for the length of this post, I just wanted to say something I’ve been keeping inside for a while but have no one to talk to, and also just wanted some advice is possible! :)

Worried about switching diets

So I’ve started dieting on the 12th of August till now, with breaks obviously, but only to the max of a week. I’ve gone from 68.9kg to 58.5 with the ketogenic diet. I’m hoping to reach a weight of around 52-55kg, but what I’m really worried about is what to do after? Most people recommended that I reintroduce carbs slowly each week, and gradually start looking at calories instead of carbs. Is that true? Or is there something else I have to do? Can someone provide the correct way to reintroduce carbs into my body so I can maintain my goal weight? Thanks

Best (free) protein and fiber tracking app?

Looking for an app to track protein and fiber intake. Not concerned with calories and ideally would like to ignore/not see them but I'm guessing most apps include them so that's fine. More concerned with simplicity and good user experience overall. Any suggestions?

Non sweet protein powder?

Hey! I'm looking for a way to increase my protein intake. I make smoothies a lot (yogurt, oatmilk, frozen fruits like mango avocado and strawberries, and add ins like spinach walnuts and coconut oil) and want to find a good protein powder to add to them. I've tried quite a few but I hate the artificially sweet ones and flavored ones. Are there any non-flavored and non-sweetened ones out there? I like whey protein the best, there was one I tried that was ok, it had a green lid, but it was still super sweet which I didn't like. Any input would be appreciated!

Is my self made meal healthy?

So I just created a dish that I personally consider healthy but seems a bit weird. I mix ~200g oatmeal, 1 scoop of protein powder, ~20g vegetable oil, and some nuts together. Then I add some hot water to make the mixture homogeneous. I will also eat an apple and one piece of multivitamin. Will eating this harm my body in any way? Appreciate any comments.

Is this a good or bad diet?

For reference, I’m in my teens and in hs. I’m average weight and height for my age. Normally, I eat a pack of goldfish at school in the morning, then I later in eat a granola bar or two(late morning), and at lunch (afternoon) I’ll have the school lunch sometimes. (The food sucks as you may know about school lunch so I sometimes skip it). I typically don’t really get hungry for the rest of the day. Health wise, I’m told I have malnutrition and I am anemic. I know I have a calorie deficit but I can’t help it. I don’t have an eating disorder but my mom says I basically have one but not intentionally which sucks even more to me bc I’m not trying to. (I kind of have all the bad side effects to anorexia. Besides the really major ones) I don’t know how to get more hungry and I kinda need to get healthier for future plans. I’m also a really picky eater which will sound really immature but it makes it hard to find healthy things I actually like to eat. (My mom only gives me the ideas of just plain fruits and vegetables which is annoying, she thinks im being stubborn)

anything will help!!!

Average day Breakfast - two boiled eggs (protein) lunch, pack of walkers crisps (fat) with a fruit bowl containing at least 4 varieties of fruit (fibre) Evening- generally some kind of meat dish with rice, potatoes etc

Plus - 1 cheat meal per week including a dessert. Sometimes 2 if meeting friends etc but not often
