/r/DeafSkype
After noticing a lot of people in /r/Deaf requesting Deaf people to skype with, I thought it'd be nice to have an actual subreddit purely for that purpose.
Be mature and pleasant. If you don't want to display your skype account, just ask to be PM'd.

Hi,
I'm Kripa - a second-year design student studying at UID, Gandhinagar.
I am currently working on a project around making airports and flights more user friendly for everyone, especially people who are hard of hearing. For this, I need to understand the experiences and choices of people at the airport.
I have made a survey for the same, the link is at the end of this post.
If you're open to answering more questions i have, please message me :)
Thank you, looking forward to your responses soon
hello! I am hearing and currently learning asl and I would love to skype/zoom with someone to practice the language. I consider myself a beginner, as most of what i’ve learned is through youtube during the pandemic. I know basics (greetings, numbers, colors, emotion words, days of the week, a few nouns here and there). i understand individual signs at a slow pace, but i am struggling to interpret fast paced finger spelling and signs in general. feel free to reach out i would so greatly appreciate the help and i’d love to make some friends!
Hello, my name is Soo Kim, I am currently a researcher in the HCI field (Human-Computer Interaction). My main area of study and my passion is on improving the accessibility of video conferencing platforms. I am doing a background study for starting research on ways to improve video conferencing (like Zoom meetings, Zoom education) for deaf or hard of hearing people.
If there is ANYTHING (little or big) that came across your mind (can be positive or negative thoughts) while conducting formal meetings, educational meetings, group projects, or casual family calls over a video conferencing platform(with hearing people), even a short comment would be tremendously helpful (if you are willing to share it!). It can be simple like "if I'm not looking at the screen, they should stop talking".
Thank you so very much!
36 m from california. Deaf. Looking for conversations and maybe video chat.
Hi r/DeafSkype redditors! I am a student taking Multicultural Counseling within the Applied Psych department at NYU. My peers and I are looking to study and become counselors/therapists. My group hope to get first hand feedback from this subreddit to learn more about how diverse aspects of identity, particularly deaf identity, can influence an individual's experience in counseling. We also hope to gain insight into the considerations that must be taken into account when working with the d/Deaf/HOH community. I've included the survey link below, feel free to answer as long or as short as you'd like and skip any questions that you may not feel comfortable answering. We'd appreciate any feedback you can provide! Thank you in advance :)
Hi everyone! I'm a hearing person taking ASL in college. We have a final assignment requiring us to talk to someone from the deaf community. I don't know anyone and the campus club has been closed for quite a while due to COVID. I'm not the best, but I'd love to meet someone new and maybe even make a friend! Please pm me if you can help ^^
Hey there!
I am a hearing person, and it's my first semester being in an ASL class. Due to COVID, it's tough for me to get involved in the local Deaf community. I'm genuinely interested in becoming a life-long ASL learner and I could use some friends that can help guide me through the language and culture. Moreover, I want to practice and just be able to chat with someone from time to time. PM me, I'd love to meet you :)

Hi there deaf community!
I am writing in hopes to find a deaf individual to help me understand some concepts and to work with in understanding aspects of ASL I find difficult.
If you are interested, please send me a PM here or email me alexfour.family@gmail.com
Thank you guys! Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit!

Hey everyone,
My brother is in prison in Boise, Idaho and is recently deaf. He has asked me to make this posting for him. He is hoping to make some new friends with which he can video call to help him improve his ASL.
He is 30 years old, and very friendly. He is a long time gamer and comic book nerd. He has traveled extensively and generally gets along with everyone. He's told me he would be excited to sign with a wide range of people, so don't worry if you aren't very nerdy.
If you're willing to help him or want to make a new friend. Please send me a message with your VP number and the best time (and time zone) of contact.
Hi, /r/deafskype!
My name is Gwen Chambers, and I am a hard of hearing graduate student studying sociology at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I am surveying people who identify as d/Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing (HH) about their experiences with police or law enforcement. Specifically, I am looking to learn about negative experiences members of the Deaf/HH community have had with police (brutality, harassment, misconduct, discrimination, etc.). I believe that more attention should be given to these experiences and am conducting this research project with the intent to fight audism and police brutality.
I would like to survey anyone who is 18 years or older, who identifies as a member of this community, who has had experiences with police, and who is willing to share with me about those experiences and attitudes/feelings about them. I would also like to learn about experiences of your friends/family, if you yourself have not personally had negative interactions with police. I expect the survey could take 25-60 minutes or more, depending on your willingness to share and your experiences. There are 13 demographic questions and 14 free response questions.
I have pasted the consent form and survey below. You do not need to sign anything, but please look over the consent form before taking the survey, if you choose to do so! You may PM me your responses, or past them in the comment section, depending on your preference. There is no compensation for your participation. Risks of participation are low, but do include a possible breach of confidentiality due to communication over the internet, as well as potential emotional distress when discussing the topic. None of your personal information (your name, names of others, schools, cities, online handles, legal history, etc.) will be saved or used in my findings. Who you are will remain completely confidential to the furthest extent possible with the given risks.
If you are interested in talking to me or want more information, please respond to this post, PM me, or contact me at the following email address:

I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Gwen Chambers
Hi, odd musing. I have all sorts of health issues and oddly it’s not uncommon for auditory triggers to make things like stomach attacks worse.
I was wondering - so deaf individuals ever have an uncomfortable ringing in their ears?
The reason I ask is because this ringing can happen to me with zero outside stimuli
Good morning! I'm a 32 year old guy that learned sign like 10 years ago. I sign outwardly a lot, but I only practice reception maybe twice a month, so its pretty weak.
So yeah, I'd love to chat with anyone, hearing or deaf, at any skill level. Maybe we can play some games or something. Discord is my go-to app for video chats, but I can download whatever!
Good Day! I’m a male in my 40s, who is Deaf in right ear and HOH in left ear. I could use some assistance in learning ASL; right now I’m learning via YouTube links and It’s going well but I require more practice with the very basics and interaction. This has been an extremely difficult situation! I have FaceTime, Snap and WhatsApp. Please Message me if wanna help! Thanks and have a great day!
I am 20 years old have been studying asl since I was 12. I love sign language but I have no one to use it with. So looking for some new friends who are fluent in asl or if there are any asl deaf coffee nights.
I am Deaf (23m) and here to teaching someone how to sign or slang sign. If you are interested, send me an inbox. I am here for a reason that I want to become a better teacher.
Thank you for the time to read this and have a great day.
Hello, I'm currently enrolled in my school's interpreting program and need to make a bunch of community interaction hours for my assignments! I must sign, preferably with deaf individuals, but if anyone would like to practice ASL I'm more than happy to chat! If anyone is interested in video chatting via Skype/discord/zoom please let me know!
Hi, everyone. I’m new to reddit. But i really want to try this. I’m 27 years old and would like an ASL video chat partner. Does not have to be live, we can send video messages to eachother. I started learning about 7 years ago and I just let everything go so I forgot most of what I learned. I would really like a partner to help me better communicate ( I suck at reading signs). Let me know! I have Line friends, Whats app, snapchat, and Instagram.
Hi, we are researchers from the University of Toronto. Here are two studies we are recruiting participants to help understanding practices and challenges of captioning videos to make YouTube videos accessible:
We would like to invite people who captioned and uploaded videos to YouTube to participate in an online survey. Participants need to complete the survey electronically and it only takes about 5 ~ 10 minutes. After finishing the survey, participants will have a chance to win a $100 gift card. To participate, participants must be 18 years or older, and have experiences captioning and uploading videos to YouTube. You can complete the survey at the following link: http://cmu.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bEezd0IXjCRLXb7
We would like to invite people who are deaf and hard of hearing and have experiences watching YouTube videos to participate in an interview study which takes around 30 ~ 45 minutes. The interview is related to your experiences with YouTube captioning. The interview will be conducted through the social platform (e.g., Facebook) that you prefer to use. After finishing the interview, participants will be paid $15. To participate, participants must be 18 years or older, must be deaf and hard of hearing, and have experiences watching YouTube videos. If you are interested, please contact franklin.li@mail.utoronto.ca.
Note: If you are qualified for both studies, you can register for both.
If you know other people who are qualified for this study, please share the information with them.
If you have any questions, please contact us via email: franklin.li@mail.utoronto.ca.
Hi! I'm here looking for someone to practice my sign with, I'm 21, so please nobody under the age of 18. That would just make me uncomfortable. I just want to try and make a friend and practice my signing so I don't forget, and improve. Thanks for taking the time to read this, have a wonderful day!
Edit: I am hearing and if you are, hard of hearing, deaf, or hearing like me, I'd be happy to sign with you.
Hi, I'm Em. Im looking for friends. I have always been heard of hearing but it's getting worse. I'm okay at lip reading but I would like someone to communicate with and talk to who knows a bit of ASL. I'm still learning ASL but, I want to learn in case I go completely deaf. Hearing, Hard of hearing, or deaf people welcome to chat. Thanks.
Hello,
I took ASL 101 online and unfortunately without the personal interaction it didn't stick as well as I'd like. My son was recently diagnosed with autism and has a severe speech delay but he is able to pick up signs quickly so I really want to learn more to be able to teach him to communicate. Would love a pen pal to chat with and learn from over video! :)
Thank you in advance. Anyone kind and patient is welcome!
