Hello! Basically the title. I’ve been working on paying off things to help improve my credit over the last 6 months (3 credit cards, 2 collections). And the last two items I have left are charge offs from BECU and BOA. When I was looking at my credit report, it stated that the fall off date would be sometime early spring in 2026. Is it worth my money to pay those or should I just let them fall off? I’m not trying to buy a home or a car anytime soon, but I would like to utilize my improved credit score to hopefully get a credit card in the near future. Thanks
I am a 22 year old woman with a credit score of 692.
Currently, I have one credit card for personal use. I have had this card for one year. It has a 3k limit. I made every payment on time, and never go above a 33% utilization rate (usually more like 15%, although I've been using it more lately as I am living abroad and this card has no international fee while my debit card does.)
When heading off to college at 18, I wanted to get a credit card to build credit. I meant I wanted advice to open my own credit card, but my parents put me on theirs. (Which I am grateful for). I only used it for some unexpected medical expenses in my first year of university, and I no longer possess a card to access this account. However, I am a user on the account, and it is impacting my credit score.
Recently, my parents have been using this card more due to some personal issues. I am debating whether being taken off of this card would have a positive or negative effect on my credit score.
POSITIVE BENEFIT
Credit usage reduced from 79% to 15-33% if I am taken off of this account.
POTENTIAL NEGATIVE EFFECTS
Credit available (line available, not including what is currently utilized) goes from 12k to 3k.
Credit history goes from 14 years to 1 year.
I know utilization has a large impact, but is this impact great enough too offset the history and available credit being on this account gives me? If it is nominal I would like to be off of this account, too, particularly as I am neither spending nor in control of the payments on it---I just don't want to make a rash decision that will lower my score.
Midland Credit Management is trying to garnish my check for two debts. Both I do not owe but because they've been sold to Midland, the creditors will not provide me with any documentation proving it is mine, despite disputing it since the collection hit my credit report (the original accounts are not on my credit reports). I filed my answer stating I do not feel these are mine, then we had a pretrial hearing on 11/4 where I filed a Motion to Compel Arbitration on both accounts. The attorney for Midland requested time to review the Motion since I had filed it about an hour before court and the judge continued the case until 12/30. No other action was made during this hearing. On 11/18, I received a Motion to Dismiss Without Prejudice from Midland Credit Management in the mail. There is no other information in the Motion and as of this morning, Midland still has not filed their Motion to Dismiss with the Court. I want to file a Motion to Dismiss WITH Prejudice on the basis of the arbitration clauses and that Midland dismissed the case after I filed my motion to compel arbitration. To me this means they know they can't proceed in court.
Does anyone have any templates I can refer to that outlines this in a way the Court can see my argument and justification for dismissal with prejudice? The arbitration clauses on both cases state they cannot be tried in a court and must go through arbitration. I feel this alone would be enough to justify dismissal with prejudice but I want to make sure the wording is powerful and impactful that the judge agrees.
What I'm thinking is going to happen, since Midland has not filed their Motion to Dismiss with the court, and the notice was mailed to my old address (I have a forward in place since I just moved) despite them having my new address, they're banking on me now showing up on 12/30. Or they have no plans to show up on 12/30 which then (in theory) would work in my favor to dismiss with prejudice.
I have come a long way over the past year I’ve paid off all my outstanding collections that’s not medical related and paid off 2 credit cards. My current utilization is down to 72% from 99%. I keep getting offers for cards with no annual fee but I’m not sure if adding to my available credit to push down my utilization is worth the hit for the hard inquiry. Credit karma is projecting the lines of credit to be 1000. I’m currently using 6800ish out of 9500 available. I’m looking to refinance my car possibly (double digit interest rate) and have the best score for a lease in march/april. I expect to pay down at least 2k more before I sign my next lease.
Edit: I’m currently 636.
Hi guys, I’ve never been great with finances, but over the last six months, I’ve been making a genuine effort to turn things around. Six months ago, my credit score was 560, but it’s now up to 660 thanks to paying off my initial debt and consistently making on time payments in full.
Currently, my only remaining debts are $5,000 in student loans and $400 I owe to friends. I’ve just started a new job with a $52,000 salary and want to make smart financial decisions moving forward. I’ve been budgeting carefully and avoid spending frivolously, prioritizing my needs first. I’m planning to move into an apartment soon, which will cost around $700 per month (rent + utilities). Commuting to work five days a week will initially cost about $150 per month in commuter expenses, though I’ll likely have the option to go hybrid in two months, which should reduce that cost. I estimate groceries and 'fun money' will amount to about $300-$400 monthly.
Given my current situation, how can I best plan for the future to continue improving my credit score, increase my credit limits, and potentially qualify for new credit cards? Thank you in advance!

One closed account for a $32,000 loan falls off next month. How much would this improve my credit?
I got a new debit card because my old one expired. I previously had my car loan on auto pay but after receiving new card it wouldn't let me online. So I went to the bank and paid it there plus asked them to set up auto pay. Fast forward two months and my credit dropped 100 points because apparently autopay didn't work so the payment went past 30 days. I'm devastated because I've been working on rebuilding my credit for 3 years now. It's there anything I can do?
I had a plan with US cellular, last payment was around Aug 2018 give or take a month. I owed 2200 and change. Jefferson Capitol got it and now it's states as 2022. Would it still go from the date of Aug 2018 or did the 7 years renew with Jefferson Capitol? It's definitely mine but it's also a year to falling off (maybe). I worked very hard to clean up my report from things that happened for me in 2018 and this one just appeared a couple months ago on my report, though I did receive settlement offers a few months before that (should've taken it, I know) So now I want it gone and am wondering if I have the option of calling and 1, getting it hopefully cut in half atleast and 2, still being able to make payments. Has anyone worked with them on having both of those options offered? So excited they delete once paid also. I was going to add screen shots of it from my experience but turns out it won't let me or idk how. This is my first post.
How much would they charge me if I pay my card late
Hey CRedit!
I recently received a collection on my credit report and my score has dropped 90+ points from 730 to 640. I have been rebuilding my credit for years and am stressing about what to do.
The collection is from unpaid university tuition for a semester beginning January 2018 (6 years 11 months ago). At the time my parents were paying for my tuition in cash (no loans) and the balance is about $4,000.00. I dropped out of school before the semester began but it appears my parents didn't cancel my enrollment correctly as they managed my student accounts at the time. I did not appear in any classes, complete assignments, etc as I had assumed my enrollment was cancelled.
I never received a notice, mail, e-mail, or any other communication about the debt until it appeared on my credit report this month. The collection is from a state university in the PNW and I have since moved to California. They may not have updated records for my new address and contact details.
I called the university Bursar to validate the debt and they would not provide any details other than that the debt is from January 2018, the amount, and that still own the debt but have enlisted ConServe for debt collection assistance. They said they would not speak to me further and any communications would need to go through ConServe.
After hearing that information I sent a debt validation letter to ConServe to give me more details about the debt. I haven't received a letter back yet, but on my credit report it says the date was assigned is August 2024 but the debt is much older than that...
I did some research on ConServe and it appears they do not negotiate pay for deletes since they collect debts for educational institutions, the IRS, etc. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with them or can recommend any options for me? Since this debt is from a state university can the debt fall off my report? I am considering the following.
Any advice or recommendations would be hugely appreciated; I can't find anyone else online who has posted about a similar dilemma. Thank you!
So my credit score is at 640 right now. I'm trying to get it to 670. I'm paying my student loan and even making extra payments. How long should it take me to reach 670? Is there anything else I can do to get it to 670 faster? (It's FICO btw)
I currently have 3 cards. Does having more cards help improve my score or is it better to stick with fewer cards? I also want to make sure I can manage them without hurting my credit score.
hello! i had a very good credit score of around 740 for many years. my ex-husband and i built a house and i am a co-owner on it. when divorcing him, he only asked for the house in exchange i could leave the state.
during our divorce hearing i said he could have the house as agreed upon.
the judge agreed and said that the debt and ownership of the house belongs to him and signed it into our divorce decree. the judge told me to submit my divorce paperwork into the dispute sections of credit websites.
it has been two years and i have gotten nothing but a credit score of 560 now. my ex-husband continues to miss mortgage payments... i am confused why i am still NOT off the mortgage and it is not erased from my credit.
the mortgage company had me sign a quit claim deed - and STILL after two years this house is wreaking havoc on my life. all of my credit cards have 100% payments. but this fucking 300k house with its 9 missed payments is fucking with my ability to buy my own house or even get a new car because i cannot get approved anywhere despite me making a good income..
any advice or help is completely welcome and wanted and thank you for reading this if you have gotten this far. i appreciate you!!
*edit to add - i do not believe the quit claim deed has been submitted yet. this was signed over this last summer. i have no updates as if it was submitted on my ex husbands end as he had to sign it as well. so i don’t think that’s locked in yet. so any advice pertaining to that as well is helpful!!
*second edit - unfortunately, i was desperate to escape and he doesn’t have the credit to refinance so our agreement was i could leave the state if i signed this quit claim deed so he didn’t need to refinance which is why i went that route.
I received a collection notice on a Credit One cc. I asked for validation, they sent me the validation within 2 weeks. The company is called Resurgent. The balance is approx $3600. What are the chances that I can set up a monthly payment plan for a settled amount, not the full amount??
i disputed it when it first popped up, but the collections agency was like lol no. the charge was kinda bogus in the first place as the company refused to close my account so i just changed my credit card and then they sent it to collections. it was a relief when it dropped off unexpectedly, but i still feel like theres a demon lurking behind me, threatening to pop up again to destroy my fico score of 732. should i just pretend nothing ever happened and carry on as normal and churn my credit cards? (shout out to my churners)
Hi,
I am looking for suggestions for any loan service companies that provide emergency loans for people with bad credit for a difficult situation my mom is in right now. One of her credit card companies placed a financial hold on her account and she can't access her account until it is all paid off. She/we don't have the money. We have a lot of bills coming up, we do help each other with different bills. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where she could get an emergency loan with bad credit, possibly even no credit check and guaranteed approval.
Thank you for your suggestions!
I’m rebuilding my score. I’m $16,000 in debt. I started the year 38k. I am going to pay the last of it before the year end but haven’t done a secure loan since my last car paid off around 4-5 years ago would it help to get a loan to pay off the last 16 and wait 3 months and pay that instead of the revolving direct?
What is your favorite service/app for accessing/reviewing credit reports, frequently and in detail?
Alright, so recently I applied for an apartment. Got all my ducks in order, saved up about $6000 for moving, make three times the rent, got family ready to help, etc. I contacted the place recently and they say I've been denied for bad credit.
So I look up my credit report and imagine my suprise when I've got a score of 578 and ~$4500 in collections, posted less than a week ago, the day after I submitted my apartment application.
Anyway, the charge is from a different apartment I used to live at worth my mom and a power company. Which is strange to me for a few reasons.
First of all, while I was on the lease for the apartment, I was told my Mom was the primary. So when I decided to leave and asked them to take me off the lease, they said they did and I would not be liable for further payments.
Second, this all happened over a year ago, so I can't imagine why the hell collections would be after my ass now instead of then.
Third, about $1000 of this is power, which is like, six months worth of electricity at least. My mom got evicted from this place two months after I left.
I've got no idea what to do here. Do I have any room to dispute these charges? Did my Mom somehow do this? (It wouldn't be the first time she did something like this). Did they just lie to me and not contact me about the charges for some reason?
I am in collections for a credit card that I missed payments on when I was on a payment plan in 2021. Credit Control keeps sending me letters, but i don't know what to do. I am told that if I contact them, it restarts the clock, but I also don't want to get sued. I am the sole breadwinner for my family, and have 2 jobs, and I am barely making ends meet. I don't have any extra money to pay them right now, and I won't until like May when the other collection account is paid off. Any advice out there?
I am just going to continue to dispute every month and hope the collection company will not respond to the dispute eventually. Any other advice? They were both for $250 and I paid the full amount for each
Tagging this general because none of my accounts have gone to collections. I have a FICO score that seems to range from 620-675 depending on where I look. I only forgot a payment a couple of times and in both instances, I got the late fee reversed and it doesn’t appear to have affected my score that badly.
Having said this, I have these two cards that are both almost maxed out, totaling about $6,000 which is a bit more than half my debt. For the past couple of years I’ve barely been keeping up on payments and have basically been flushing $300-$500 down the toilet every month. I make $25 an hour so I mean…that’s money I could otherwise be saving. Prior to this job I was making $17 an hour which is when things got really bad.
So, my parents are lending me money to settle the debt with the bank. Which is awesome and hugely appreciated. But I guess I just want a better sense of how badly this will nuke my halfway decent FICO score and for how long..?
Thanks.
I have done the calculations through StepChange and a DRO is most suitable for me. The problem is I have been living off my credit card due to no income left after paying creditors.
Will this affect the likelihood of being accepted for a DRO?
Could the creditor appeal the DRO request due to this? Spending includes groceries and car repairs.
I don’t know what to do. I can’t not use the credit card for a month or two before applying for the DRO as I have to use my income to pay the creditors but am running out of time as my credit card will be suspended next month due to being in persistent debt.
Thank you
So I’m relatively new to the credit game. Didn’t really have the opportunity to utilize or have good credit when I was younger so I just never worried about it. Over the past 6 months or so I’ve been working on building it up, got a capital one secured card, after that I was able to get a loan to buy a car, and I have a personal loan. I haven’t really checked anything but my Fico scores and I’m sitting at a 630 for TU and 580 with EQ. I’ve never missed a payment on anything and I’ve been keeping my usage on my secured card pretty low, but seems like my scores don’t really change and if I try and do a pre approval for any other cards it doesn’t offer me more than 275-300 dollar limit. I’m wondering what steps I need to take to increase my credit limit. Seems like I’m stuck at this $300 range and not sure where to go from here. Do I just wait and see if it builds over time or is there something else I could do to increase it? TIA
Me and my ex gf split months ago Names were both on the lease She has gone MIA and now the apartment complex is sending this to collections
Do I have any legal rights to come after the original creditor and her? Or what do I do It’s for 6k supposedly apartment complex added bs fees
I'm about to sign a lease, and my landlord mentioned that I could have a cosigner to strengthen my application. My credit score is 620 - not exactly the best, but I want to work on improving it. I know having a cosigner could help me get the apartment, but can it also help me build credit? Has anyone had experience with this? Will my credit eventually increase over time?
Am I screwed? We knew we were going to get a bill, however, never received it and didn’t think anything of it to be honest. We only became aware when we got a notification that we have a delinquent account. Our first delinquent account so we are a bit worried. We called the hospital and she said since there was an error in our address she is going to pull it back and call us to set up payment after it’s pulled back. I asked her about credit and she was not sure.
Every time I google I get different answers.
Im primary buyer, a friend is co-signer/co-buyer. They seem to be synonymous in Indiana. He wanted me to get refinanced into my name which I've had a hard time doing with my lack of credit history and no one else who could cosign.
He took car from my driveway, parked in his garage and refuses to let me drive it until he's off the loan. In order to do that, I have to get to work every day somehow which is rather difficult witout a vehicle.
I have paid all payments except for the last couple when they took it. His income is triple mine and he paid it before I could.
They're (him and wife) now taking me to small claims court, I'm assuming over the payments they've made. So first of all, im guessing I need to file my own case also? Over the actual car? I have not been served for their case, as they couldn't manage to spell my name or address right, even though its right in front of them, however I found it online. -what can I do in this scenario- do I still show up? Or miss the hearing, like happened with the first one because i wasnt aware, and never properly served?
Hey Everyone,
I attended a University in Maryland, and was living in off-campus student housing the entire time I attended the college. The apartments were outrageously expensive and horribly managed, and looking for any and everything possible to take advantage of students who were living away from their parents. I never paid rent or utilities late. When I moved out of the apartment, I was charged a $500 bill for the carpet in my apartment being "damaged". I went to the leasing office when I was notified about this charge and told them I would not be paying it. They offered to lessen the charge if I wrote a good review on google for their apartment building, which was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard. Given how much money they had already taken from me, I simply was not going to pay this. They had sent a move out statement with a pdf attached with photos of our apartment, and they did NOT include any photo of this "damage to the carpet", only some trash that was left in the apartment, which they shouldn't have even charged for either, considering one of my roommates was still signed onto the lease for the next year.
This bill had since been forwarded to a third party collections agency, and I told them I will not be paying it, as it is just completely unfair and a scam. The apartment did not provide me with any proof of this damage whatsoever. I guess since then, it was forwarded to CCU, and I just received a letter in the mail from CCU saying I now owe almost $2500 for this. What can I do to avoid paying this? Can I take my apartment to small claims court or something? I tried to go back to the apartment leasing office a few weeks after they posted it to my account, but they said there is "nothing they can do about it now because it was already forwarded to collections." I had sent an email to the third-party collections unit they sent this baseless bill to and told them I would not be paying it and would consider taking legal action against the apartment building if this continues, and I never received another email from them. At that point, the bill was $559. This is the FIRST notification I have received from CCU, and the bill is now $2349.
Any advice/help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try and call them this week also.
Thank you
Hello, I hope everyone is having a great morning!
So, about a week and a half ago, on my way to work my car started violently shaking, so I did what the normal person would do and called out of work to access the situation more and figured it was better to take it to a mechanic, so I took it and some time passed, but I was unable to work without my car, so of course no money was being made, car was “fixed” four days later, it costed me $3100 for nothing, note that was 80% of my money, not even an hour later it started back shaking. My mom told me to take it up to the dealership and that is what I did. They did the teardown and found out that my problem would be up to $7000-10000 to fix.
I said screw that and bought a used engine that I’m going to take to a mechanic my friend recommended me. So that would be at least $1500 and I have $1700 in credit card debt at the moment, but my score is a 686 currently. I am 19 years old and this situation has set me back by miles.
Everywhere I go I am denied for a personal loan, mainly because I only have 11 months worth of credit. I currently finance my car through Navy Federal, and my payments are $307 a month, I was denied for the Navy federal personal loan online, but I wanted to know if I can explain my situation to a loan officer at the branch is it possible that I would be able to be approved for the loan just based off the information I provided?
