Welcome you, to the Empire of the First Choice! Please review our rules for the sake of a more safe the society.
We are indebted to numerous people for our enjoyment of poorly translated and dubbed material, but our sub especially honors those responsible for the Backstroke of the West: George Lucas and his entire team who made Revenge of the Sith, anonymous Chinese pirates who mistranslated and peddled the dubbed DVD, Jeremy Winterson for publicizing his findings from the streets of China in the summer of 2005, u/TheThirdGathers and his friends for dubbing the Backstroke in such stunningly high quality, and GratefulDeadpool for making it last so long on YouTube—all before Disney sucked the joy out of Star Wars. The wish power are together with these persons.
Salute the great hopeless situations over at /r/TheDubGathers, who have finished their latest projects, The Novelty Desire and The Counterattack Collection.
Mark all NSFW content as NSFW.
Posts must be related to Chinese bootlegs and messed up translations of English-speaking media.
Be civil. Name calling or harassment based on race, sexuality, sex, etc., will get you a ban. Casual racism or repeated irrelevant posts will get you vanquished.

This is a sub for all memes relating to the Chinese bootlegs and messed up translations of ALL media. Do not simply downvote a meme because it is not Star Wars-related. While we started off with the Backstroke of the West, we have expanded to include IPs like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Marvel. They are a source for some of the dankest memes in the galaxy.

While some of our favorite movie/TV scripts and memesets come from homemade/artificially crafted recursive translations in the style of Backstroke of the West, we especially honor those found gems that we identify as "Certified Backstrokes": authentically mistranslated and poorly translated bootlegs of English media. Outside of the Backstroke, this list now includes:
STAR WAR GATHERINGS
STAR WAR STORIES
The Clone Wars (Copy War): "The Attack" and "The Sound" - Pts. 1 and 2
STAR ADVENTURES (STAR TREK)
OTHER DANK BOOTLEGS
Game of Thrones: Parts 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9a, 9b, 9c, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14
Spiderman (2002), and this
There is an ongoing cooperation between our discord and the /r/PrequelMemes discord to create a full bootleg translation of Episode 1. Check our discord for updates.

Notice: You must watch the version (seen here on https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rb4VZX9p8pr6DIC9myYqwTrwaE2f1T91/view) in its entirety before you can answer this question
While I'm all fine with doing a different version of Backstroke, I think it should probably be distinguished from, and not simply replace, the original. As tonally it is quite different. What would people like to call this version? How about:
Backstroke of the West, Depraved Edition
We have been waiting a long time for Backstroke's return! Now, the Good Elephant has dropped it from his airship! (The link is https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rb4VZX9p8pr6DIC9myYqwTrwaE2f1T91/view?usp=sharing ) Aside from the familiar footage and dialogue, there will be new surprises that the previous video lacked. Watch it in full to hear and see them!
Important thing to note: if you see the name Avey Nosilla, it is me — the video’s new restorer, extender, and uploader

Do not waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant!
Two days ago, the Internet Archive was hacked and defaced. I use the site to access an unaltered copy of Backstroke of the West. I use that copy, specifically its audio, as part of my project of visually remastering the said title. Because of the hack, I cannot access it. Does anyone have footage of the dub, especially its second half (runs from 1:10:03 to 2:20:06)?
See.

Someone was asking where they could get the original Chinese subtitles. Do not know. However, I do remember seeing a few of them sprinkled in here. This guy was one of the only people I was in communication with on the internet while working on the dub. Wonder where he is now. He also found Backstroke fascinating at the time (late 2000's) and knew more about the Backstory than I did. Wonder where he is now!
What I did was convert the Taiwanese translation into simplified Chinese, then I ran the character names through my reverse translator.
Unfortunately, there were a few leftover Chinese characters on Kingsoft 2002.
