Anyone noticed any benefits or issues / side effects from taking reishi tincture? What did you experience when taking it or did you have no difference ? I been putting one full dropper into warm water with lemon. I’ve only been taking it for the last couple days. Anyone had experience with it ? Should I be taking it daily ?
The one I take has 30% organic cane ethanol, spring water and reishi but I’m hoping because I add it to boiled warm water that some of the ethanol is evaporated?
The ratio is 1:3 (that’s what it says on the bottle)
I have digestion issues of bloating and belching. I had an endoscopy that showed inactive gastritis so the doctors told me that gastritis is not causing my issues, but an anti acid or eating is the only thing that makes me feel better so I feel like it is gastritis/reflux. My symptoms are worse at night and in between meals when my stomach is empty. I usually lose 1-3 hours of sleep per night due to this.
Based on recommendations from both regular diaticians that specialize in gastritis and several people/reading about TCM, I was told to only eat warm foods and cut out raw foods. I was eating a lot of salads consisting of lettuces, fresh herbs, and carrots because that's one of the few foods I could tolerate. Now I'm eating lots of overcooked veggies, congees, nothing fresh and my symptoms are still the same BUT I feel more sluggish, tired and bloated after eating. Plus I think all the overcooked veggies are spiking my blood sugar and making me feel sluggish. I also feel hot and uncomfortable after eating so I'm eating less, and it makes me even more tired due to less input.
Before I switched to this diet, a typical lunches to be:
I use to eat my veggies first, the protein then carb, then bone broth. I often found that I didn't even want the carb, and I felt very energized and satiated after a meal like this. I loved eating. I also did not have any symptoms until regular few hours between meals unless I ate something that triggered my issues like spicy foods.
Now I eat something like -
I feel bloated, hot, uncomfortable, sluggish, dread eating and need to take a nap after eating. It's interesting that my stomach feels heavy and full even though I'm eating significantly less than I did before. The foods haven't changed, all that's changed is the elimination of raw veggies and overcooked everything. In theory this should be easier to digest, but I feel so heavy. I use to easily workout after a meal and feel good, now I have to take a nap.
I'm curious on the views on this from experts. I want to go back to my old way of eating since I felt better physically and mentally but can my stomach heal that way?
I keep a handful of herbs on hand that help treat a variety of things - garlic, ginger, ginseng, mint, etc. Some of them I can get as concentrates or dried from my Chinese grocery store. But what are the recommended TCM-based cook books? For example - If someone has a bad belly, try a tea of one of these herbs, or add this & that to a soup.
I’m not a practitioner, just interested in learning more about food-based treatments safe to do at home when mild aches or ailments come up.
Looking for a skilled and experienced Chinese herbalist in Philadelphia to help me with my digestive issues. Nobody else seems to be able to so I’m trying something new.
I came across Six Fishes online, but idk how great they are.
Edit: would be willing to potentially travel a handful of times to NYC for herbal blends if it was to see someone very reputable.
i took a small dose (8ml) of this cold medicine. its main ingredients are Banlangen (Isatidis radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae fructose), Huangbai (Phellodendri chemosis cortex) and Pangdahai (Sterculiae lychnophorae semen). do any of these have significant effects on my oral birth control? thank you in advance
Kidney chi dysfunction #shenji1
There are lots of descriptions of non-deal stools, but what's an ideal one like?
Easy to pass, not excessively large or small in quantity or girth, well formed but not firm nor sticky or loose (maybe like silly putty?)?
Hi all. I have reached the end of what western medicine can do for my Hashimoto's. After making some progress, all my gains have been reversed in the last sevearl months. My endocrinologist is useless, other than increasing the dose of levothyroxin. So, I did a review on pubmed and found that there are several decoctions in TCM for treating Hashimoto's particularly pairing it with levothyroxin. I am looking for recommendations of what kind of clinic to go to so that I can find a practioner to make some of these decoctions for me to try (as well as any other things they suggest)? Is that possible? I live in NYC so I know there are a lot of great choices, but I'm not quite sure exactly what I should be looking for or what questions to ask of the clinic. Any advice or recommendations would be so appreciated. Thank you!
On Tuesday, my TCM doctor mentioned I had spleen qi deficiency dampness but with warmth. I'm not too familiar with everything in TCM yet so apologies if I've worded that wrong- trying to learn as much as I can!
My symptoms have been mainly digestive issues - bloating / stomach swelling, rapid weight gain, pain and discomfort in the gut, constipation to diarrhoea. But I've also had really bad trouble sleeping (both getting to sleep & staying asleep), tiredness, puffy eyes, joint pain, dizzy spells, and mental symptoms like anxiety and overthinking.
This has been progressing over the last month but has gotten significantly worse over the last week or so ans I'm pretty sure a big factor is poor diet.
I'm also normally reasonably active but due to circumstances, I haven't been doing my regular walking or yoga sessions. (So potentially stagnation there as well)
My doctor advised to drink barley tea and sip bone broth throughout the day, as well as no cold/ raw foods but I'm not sure what else I should be doing to treat this. I normally eat warm foods (eg oats for breakfast, warm drinks only, steamed vegetables and protein for dinner etc) but was thinking of trying some chicken soup recipes to see if it'll help.
Does anyone here have any suggestions of what else I can try, or specific foods to add in or avoid?
At this point I'm so over not sleeping and feeling sick & bloated all the time, so I'd love any suggestions on what else to try to stop feeling so gross!
I know tongue scraping isn’t really a TCM thing (more from Ayurveda). And I’m sure that it would affect the reading.
So do you think I should cease doing it before getting tongue reading diagnosis done? (And for how long? (Eg, like just don’t scrape the morning of that day, or stop for a full week ect.)
In the same vein , I also use lots of Indian style spice mixes (eg, containing yellow turmeric ect). Do you think I should stop that as well (and how long?)
What is the best lighting to use for taking pictures of tongue in case of online diagnosing (eg. Bathroom lighting, or facing the sun)
Thanks!
I have taken Siberian ginseng prior to my pregnancy and I found it really useful to take for my immune system.
This is the brand I use: https://eladon.com/products/elagen-high-potency-capsules?variant=31546383859793
There is conflicting information online as to its safety in pregnancy. To be fair, many herbs and supplements are recommended as not safe during pregnancy due to lack of research.
However, I want to ask if anyone here can advise me based on traditional usage of Siberian ginseng whether it is safe to take during pregnancy?
My sister has crippling periods each month and regular medicine has just completely failed her over the years. We work for Thai people and they suggested we look into finding a Chinese medicine doctor in NYC. Any recommendations? Thanks!
Chinese medicine for the above?
Every day for last two months, 5-12 times a night. Dreams are very involved and stressful more so than not.
🙏🙏🙏
I lost my period 10 months ago due to undereating for a couple months. I saw online that acupuncture and Chinese medicine might help, and I'm willing to give it a try. I got acupuncture for the first time yesterday, and I enjoyed the experience and found it relaxing. My practitioner told me my period should come back in 5 days, and if it doesn't I should come back and try again with moxibustion. I was surprised she said 5 days, that feels very soon. Does anyone know if moxibustion/more acupuncture will help if my period doesn't come back?
Hello, I am looking for advice in the context of TCM, which has helped me in the past.
I recently had orthopedic surgery on my wrist and fingers to correct compressed tendons, carpal tunnel, and trigger finger. I'm in physical therapy, but I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to facilitate a complete recovery and regain full range of motion in my hands.
I would even just appreciate an idea of what diet, herbs, or lifestyle changes promote thorough healing. Thank you very much!
Let me know if you guys like this video I did for class. Trying to educate people more, thought it was pretty cool! 😎 https://youtu.be/cMF4wMLFAM0?si=jTnzAct1Xg91-dV-
Pardon me for being very much a novice when it comes to this.
From what I have understood, due to TCM it is important to avoid cold. How does TCM see for example ice/winter swimming when body is put into very cold water? Or cold showers? Is it something to avoid when it isn't bodys internal cold but coming from the outside ? How about going outside for a walk without a hat or gloves at -15 to -20 celsius?
What does it say if anything about my health situation that I very much crave to be exposed to the cold and even during coldest winter weather I feel like I could be just fine wearing just a t shirt? On the other hand I am very "Bad" at handling heat. When temperature outside is +25 celsius or above, I feel very exhausted and nauseous.
Is there something I could do to sort of balance and even this out?
Thank you!
Hi, I am very new to this and am seeking Tai Kang Ning for a friend to aid in some withdrawals. However, when I google it, curing pills come up. Is this the same product? If not, where can I buy Tai Kang Ning for him? It's time sensitive so any suggestions would be appreciated
Does anyone have experience or knowledge curing silent reflux or gastric reflux and associated symptoms? Or varicocele? And would share or advise?
I can't tell if it helps or if this is a mistranslation about yi yi ren that has made its way into many English books and websites.
Yes, I am aware that herbs are more powerful than foods, but I'll take any help I can get, as I've been on herbs for 5 years now and still having issues with dampness despite seeing 3 different providers during this time.
Does anyone know where I can find a wooden roller used to make the pills/bolus. I’ve been trying to find one to experiment with but can’t find it. Thanks
Whats this white dead skin in my scalp? seem to be getting hair shedding in these areas when I bath, and itch at night.. think my hair leans toward the drier side... I', suspecting meat or milk thats causing it? Maybe oatbran
Hey TCM followers and practitioners! I’ve (37m) been treating diagnosed kidney yang deficiency just over for the past 3 months, having been taking a tailored herbal formula twice daily for the last 102 days.
I have to say, I feel fantastic. My mood and energy levels have improved greatly, and a lot of my mental complaints such as anxiety, brain fog, etc, have gone. These started to clear up quite early on in the process.
However, my main complaints (low libido, tinnitis) still linger and my digestion is still not perfect. Having no sex drive gives me the big sads and it’s the one thing I was really hoping to fix but it seems to be taking a lot longer to notice much if any improvement in that area. I have noticed that I’ll occasionally have some nocturnal erections now which is a good sign, but there’s no sexual interest or desire during my waking life. And this essentially makes me feel like a meat robot and I miss engaging in that part of life :(
Should I have seen some more improvements now or should I give it another 2-3 months to make a call on whether this is the right treatment plan for me?
Thanks a million in advance.
