Not much luck with trout or salmon in the last two weeks. Got some small salmon last weekend. Time to call it a day?
I’m wanting to take my father in law perch fishing with me. He has limited mobility due to a stroke, so I don’t want to take him out needlessly if the fish aren’t around. He used to fish them year round back in the day, but I know the lake isn’t the same it was 40 years ago. Thanks for any info anyone can provide.
I have been out of town for a bit but I'm coming back to Chicago so I'm curious if there's any places that still have rainbow trout left over from the spring stocking? I would really like to make some smoked trout so I don't know if it's more worth my time to go to a private pond and pay for the trout. Thanks
I finally quit my job and need a good breather. After posting on r/AskChicago for recos, I've decided I'm going to do a quick daytrip to Busse Woods, as I've done more lake fishing than stream.
I have all my own (basic) gear and a car. So, does anyone have any recos on how to make the most out of my day? Where should I fish? Should I use live bait or lures? I love fishing but by no means am an expert, so would love any help I can get! Thank you!!
Hi all, I’m looking to take my wife out fishing for the first time and I’m hoping to get some guidance on location. I’d like to be able to bring out some folding chairs and a cooler so we can have a picnic. Also hoping to find a place without a ton of people so I can take the time to teach her the basics of casting and stuff without her feeling too self-conscious. If it’s like an hour drive from the city that’s fine, I just want her to have a good experience so there’s more of a chance she’ll want to go again 😅
Anyone have a list of all the ramps on the chain along with cost?
So with the upcoming cicadapacalypse are there cicada like lures? Or similar forms. I have some fond memories using hula poppers when i was younger. I could see that working maybe. Popped into my head today

How is the dpr fishing only caught one pike and it was in Wisconsin wondering if I have a good chance getting one in the dpr what baits should I throw and how is the stretch in Channahon also wondering if it’s good for smallmouth or if I would be better off trying a different river.
Anyone know a good fishing spot in lake county ?
Hey guys I’m new to pike fishing the Des Planes River. They say they’re plentiful but I’ve been fishing the stretch behind the Riverside Brookfield Library in Lyons. It sends I’m catching everything but a northern pike. Can you guys recommend any advice when it comes to looking for spots, where to fish and lures? I’m open to trying other locations like Lemont, Willow Springs etc I am bank fishing. I have also been throwing chatterbaits, mega bass dark sleeper and sleeper gill swimbaits and only have been catching bass and walleye.
Does anyone know the primary forage for smallmouth on the middle sections of the Fox river? I can't seem to find any concrete data on it from the Illinois DNR.
I typically see very few crayfish on the river and instead TONS of small bait fish. I just wish I knew what they were exactly.
Fox River Quillback on Bladebait, not a Smallie but better than nothing
Hey all,
Planning to hit the Kankakee this weekend. I got a hour plus drive to my spot and before I head out, can anyone gave me a water report.
Did the water levels settle down?
How is the water clarity?
I appreciate any information!
Also any tips
