Modern mature dramas like "in between" and "be your own light."

Be your own light and in between are really good dramas that I absolutely loved so much. Especially because they unashamedly confronted heavier themes like cheating and betrayal, and they have morally-grey characters. Most importantly, the acting is so good and natural that I forget I am watching a show.

I am looking for similar shows.

Toxic relationship/ Arrange marriage trope

I am new to C-Dramas. I want to watch something with an arrange marriage trope or something with an amazing storyline(even thriller, mystery works).

PLEASE DONT RECOMMEND ANY HISTORICAL DRAMAS. And no dramas that have 30+ episodes. 20-25 episodes is an ideal range for me. Shows I have loved till now are : hidden love and when I fly towards you.

I have also watched put your head on my shoulder and my lethal man.

Any period drama where the FL falls first and hard?

Pretty self explanatory title. I love the opposite dynamics as well but after a string of series where the FL is either oblivious or does not at first feel the same way as the ML I need a palate cleanser.

Any drama where the FL falls first for the ML?

Can anyone help me remember the title of this movie?

It's a Chinese drama where twin sisters switch places. One sister is a professional actress who is failing to do well in a play and has to switch places with her sister (who lives in the country with her mother) when she falls ill. But then the country sister ends up performing better than the actress sister and the actress sister's fiancé is being slowly seduced by the country sister. The movie culminates with the sisters both ending up on stage in the play with the fiancé (who is also an actor).

Does anyone know which movie this is? Any help would be appreciated!

Looking for this cdrama

Okay so I’m usually pretty good at figuring out if a drama is a mini or full length but on this one I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure it’s a full drama cause of the budget. If anyone knows please tell me. I saw a clip on tiktok. But no name or anything that can point me in the direction and putting keywords in the search is getting me other dramas.

Clip : Emperor dies from being poisoned by his mistress/concubine by orders of his brother. Empresses dies while choking on a chicken bone? Either way both end up back in the past. The empress tries not to get selected but doesn’t know the emperor has been reborn as well and he keeps pushing her through the selection despite her blunders.

Drama Recommendations: Forgiveness

Currently watching Everyone Loves Me and really loving the rejection/groveling/forgiveness trope.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend any more dramas with this trope?

Please and thank you! :)

Good Beijing-based dramas?

I just finished Crossroad Bistro and really liked its modern and artsy vibes. Definitely noticed a contrast in this Beijing-based vs the Shanghai dramas I usually watch. I hope it's not a one-off.

Would love to find some more, do you guys know of any good ones? I usually search on mydramalist but the location is not always explicitly mentioned.

I’m struggling to find any dramas as good as SOM—it really set the bar so high! Do you have any other recommendations? It can be historical , costume or modern dramas. Some of my other personal favorites are…

Go ahead Meet yourself The bond Love like the Galaxy

Dramas I dropped

  1. Story of Kunning Palace
  2. The Sword and the Brocade
  3. You are my glory

Modern drama with tortured ml

I'm looking for a modern drama where the ml is depressed/ sad/ guilty because of trauma or his current situation in life. An example of this is Under the skin. The ml is an artist who painted an age progression of someone that ended up getting the person killed. To deal with his guilt, he becomes a portrait artist for the police I would prefer a darker themed drama I don't really care it there's romance or not, as long as it's not a central theme Bonus points if it has elements of mystery/crime etc I haven't watched cdramas like this except for this one, so all recommendations are welcome

Family centered CDrama that isn't 800 hours of angst?

A slice of life kind of drama about family life where you can actually empathize with and like all of the family members and that doesn't torture the audience with endless tragedy?

Sure dramas need some conflict and tension but why does every family focused drama have to be like "single dad is broke but doesn't tell anyone out of shame, daughter is a school bully, son gets falsely accused of murder, mom is back and she's dying from cancer in 4 months"?

I need some wholesome feelgood family dramas.

What drama is it?

This drama is similar to Love Like the Galaxy, but with its own unique twists. It follows the story of a young woman who is forced to marry a prominent military figure because her two stepsisters refuse to marry him. Over time, she and the man fall deeply in love. However, when her stepsisters see how much he cares for her, they become jealous and try to get her into trouble with the king. The girl was never supposed to marry him— her stepsisters were meant to marry him instead. To get back at her, they scheme to sabotage her relationship. One memorable scene involves the girl opening a garment shop, although the exact reason behind it slips my mind. Another significant moment happens when she visits her family home and is bullied by her stepsister. The male lead steps in to defend her, showing his unwavering support. Meanwhile, there's also a subplot involving the male lead's brother, who is destined to become the next king. The male lead works hard to ensure his brother's rise to power, but the brother falls in love with a girl. Feeling betrayed, the male lead becomes upset because the girl isn't seen as suitable to marry someone destined for the throne. The male lead's wife, however, stands by her love and defends the future king. In one tense moment, the male lead leaves their home, and it's attacked. The girl, determined to protect their household, secretly dons his armor and defends the home herself. The drama concludes on a heartwarming note, with everyone gathered together, laughing and talking. In the final touching scene, the girl announces that she's about to give birth. Overall, it's a cozy, fun drama where the girl is truly spoiled by her loving husband. I remember these scenes so vividly and really want to watch it again, but I can't recall the name of the drama!

Trying to find this drama

All I saw were the promo posters, but what I remember is

  • There were 2 promo posters, each I'm assuming of the main leads
  • it's got the two main guys individually leaning in to whisper to someone's ear behind their hand
  • modern drama
  • I think it was WinWin and Zhou YiRan but I couldn't find anything

I know it's not falling into your smile or when I fly towards you, but I am more sure that Zhou YiRan is in it than WinWin.

Help find this Chinese drama please ...

I do not remember the name. It's about a doctor, he was a very popular doctor. That had hardly nothing to do with Women. He was very quiet. Somehow the ML and FL got married .. she was basically a stranger from a mixed up blind date I think. But not 100%. But at one point she came into his office as a patient. I don't remeber if they were married yet at this point. I just remember the exam room was off an office. It was such a a good drama. I feel so dumb unable to remember more. It was a true drama with like 16+ episodes. Not a mini drama. Please help.. 🙏😭

Drama with strong female lead and fighting/mystery - on Hulu, Netlfix, or Youtube (USA)

Hello, I'm new to the genre and am excited to get recs!

My favorite romance tropes/themes:

  • Strong female lead (even better if the male lead is wealthy/in a position of power)
  • Enemies to lovers
  • Forced cohabitation/contracts between leads
  • Ugly to beautiful
  • Fake Dating

Non-Romance tropes/themes:

  • Hidden/secret identity
  • Cunning lead
  • Laid-back/relaxed male lead that is sarcastic
  • Political involvement/manipulation
  • Battles/duels
  • If any of you have read the manhwa "A Martial Master Wakes Up as a Concubine" ANYTHING like that i love it so much she is so funny
  • Dark backstory

Some of my favorite dramas (sorry they are mostly romance KDramas):

  • Business Proposal
  • Boys Over Flowers
  • Accidentally in Love
  • Strong woman Bong-Soon

Please avoid:

  • Fluff-heavy
  • Placid/meek main characters
  • Innocent/childlike FL
  • Perfect/flawless leads
  • Romance-only dramas
  • Over like 50ish episodes
  • Underdeveloped/ supporting characters
  • Slow pace

BUT it doesn't have to be romance!!!! I also like combat-heavy action with mystery and a compelling villain or some kind of crime/puzzle to solve. Supernatural elements are fun too as long as the world/magic system aren't extremely confusing. And I LOVE character development!!!!!

I'm currently generally on the hunt for a nonmodern CDrama that is engaging and plot-heavy. Can be a romance (doesn't have to be) as long as there are developed other elements in the plot. I'm just most familiar with romance as a genre but would be excited to branch out!

Really anything you think I would like based off of what I wrote here. Doesn't have to fit every bit of criteria. Thank you so much!

Is there any C-Drama where the ML is actually funny and friendly doesn't have the stoic face expression?

I have been searching for some dramas where the ML has a funny and friendly character. If the ML has a funny character he is younger than FL or a SML in dramas. I'm tired of watching dramas with same kind of ML concept. Please suggest me some good dramas. (I don't watch historical/costume dramas) Please suggest me in Rom-Com genre. Thank you in advance!

Edit: Hey all!! I think there is a miscommunication. I want dramas with older male leads with funny extrovert character!

I can’t remember which song and cdrama these beautiful lyrics are from. I dictated the translation from the subtitles into my phone while watching a scene and forgot to write the name! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Will you please help me find it?

Below the lyrics, I’ll try to post every drama I’ve watched around that time in hope someone can help me figure out which song this is and which drama it’s from. Here are the beautiful lyrics:

It’s the fog beneath your eyes that makes it rain at the Mount Ba / Who will I sigh for in this life / I will remember the past when we part / I’ve buried my heart in autumn / it’s your frown / that brings the sorrowful clouds / who will I meet in this life / sadness or joy or predestined / love and hatred made me suffer a lot / what’s the date of the palace to the sky / I’m only waiting for you / to appear in my dreams / the courtyard is lush with sycamores / it only hopes that one day there still be a phoenix to roost / I’m still looking for you until the falling flowers return with Spring / I love you till my life ends / I’m still looking for you until the sound of hooves fades with the strings / I hate that there’s no time to meet / I’m still looking for you until the sun stains the clouds / like a duck weed waiting to be married / I’m still looking for you / no matter how thick the fog is and how hard it is to find the netherworld / my love for you will never change /

The branches falling made a splash / there are too many memories / it’s hard to let go of it / who answered every word? / I wander around to find him / it has been many years / even if I will die and never come back / I’ll be with you forever / the two ends that can’t be cut off / the tears wet to the opposite bank / how can I bear the separation if it’s you who will be with me / the loneliness that can’t be cut off / how can I bear the separation if it’s you who will be with me / the loneliness that can’t be cut off / only our love is unchanging / the two ends that can’t be cut off / I can’t see through the dark night / when the green mountains turn white headed / can we keep each other company / I’m afraid you don’t have enough clothes / the night is so cold that it’s hard to keep warm

Dramas I’ve watched:

Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion, The Legend of the White Snake, Legend of Yunxi, Legend of Fuyao, Beauty of Resilience, Love You Seven Times, The Double, Echo of Her Voice, Sword and Fairy 4, Please Remember Me, Your Sensibility My Destiny, Fox Spirit Matchmaker… it could be none of these. I just can’t remember. Help!

similar to princess weiyoung, yanxi palace, and rise of phoenixes

just finished the king’s woman and tried to start the story of minglan because of some recs I got in another post but I dislike them. hated both the men in the king’s woman and now I dislike minglan for being so weak. I appreciate her calculating personality and impressive skills but it’s nothing compared to yingluo or weiyoung. i’m so annoyed by her I don’t even care to see through her revenge i’m giving up after 24 episodes. please give me some good recs!

I want the scheming revenge, tragic but genuine romance, a female lead who doesn’t make me wanna bash my head into a wall. doesn’t have to be royal family/harem centered but I do prefer historical dramas. none of the xianxia magic cultivation kinda stuff too i’ve outgrown it

Best Cdrama ever ?

I am new to chinese shows I usually watch K dramas. I have seen Love O2 & dating show Heart Signal 7 after which I am very intrigued. I cannot stand historical or mindless fluff so any boring cliche show I can't finish. I like high production value & good storyline or smart scripts or something that would make my heart flutter. So what's like the bestest chinese dramas out there which would really make me fall in love with C entertainment. Any recommendations please?

He then came back, broke her metal detector. Somehow it seem she want to make amend with him, meeting him.

FL has a very innocent/baby face.

Recommend me romance dramas with fakeout deaths

One of my all time favorite dramas has a whole episode where the ML thinks the FL is dead, (sleeping potion, he even puts her in a coffin). It was some of the most delicious angst I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Another one of my favs had the ML fall off a cliff and the FL assume he was most likely dead, to the point she fell ill. Both of these were xianxias, but I just finished a modern one where for a second there, the ML thinks the FL is the woman lying dead on a gurney.

I just love the hearwrenching drama of a death without any of the consequences. I do not watch dramas with sad endings so this is as good as it gets for me. Could you recommend any other dramas where one of the leads thinks the other has died?

codependent childhood friends

hello! i’m looking for a drama where there is a childhood friends pairing, and they are deeply dependent on each other (or one party is deeply dependent on the other) to the point it is unhealthy or codependent. they can end up together or not, i’m okay with it.

i’m currently watching lost you forever, and i am deeply intrigued by cang xuan and xiao yao’s dynamic. i want something similar to them, doesn’t matter if it’s romantic or platonic.

the shared pain bonding, the unrequited love on cang xuan’s side (the yearning, the pain in his eyes, the desperation), all while being each other’s safest place.

the way cang xuan depends on xiao yao and takes comfort in her presence, knowing that as long as she is around he is not alone.

the way they cling to each other out of fear of abandonment. the way they are willing to do anything for each other, and their main priority is to keep each other safe :’)

their bond is so deep, and their relationship is so complex.

i am wondering if there is any drama that has a bond as intricate and dependent as their’s. they don’t have to end up together, it’s okay.

(also feel free to talk about cang xuan and xiao yao in the comments!!)
