Hello, my girlfriend and I want to visit cape town. As we also enjoy surfing, muizenberg sounds like the place for us to go. However, we have concerns about safety there. Any experiences in this area - especially on the beach?
Hey Guys,
New to the city. Does anybody know what the options are for going out on a Sunday? Besides Café caprice. Thx 🙏🏼
We recently bought a gorgeous flat in a 4 unit building. The agent told us the BC was unprofessional but little did we know it was a total fucking mess. It’s not even officially registered. We now have a neighbor who is pretty intense demanding all sorts of odd things, and 2 other owners who aren’t living on premises.
I’m so scared we fucked up buying this place. We hired a managing company about 3 months ago to help professionalize but it seems this is a long and tedious process considering the intense neighbor had the garage turned into a living unit without getting approved by the council.
So we can’t register until the deed is updated. Meanwhile the neighbor is being very hectic about other aspects of the living space.
Any advice or tips?
As the title says, I’m looking for people to play golf with on a regular basis. None of my friends are keen for it, so I end up booking solo and get paired with various groups. I’m a decent player (averaging between 84-88 at the moment) and my main goal is to have fun (and improve). I like to play Rondebosch, Westlake, Clovelly and Royal Cape. Anyone?!
I love trashy slashers from the 80s and exploitation cinema from the 70s. Give me an Italian giallo any day or an 80s horror movie with practical effects by Tom Savini. Problem is, most of my friends just scratch their heads when it comes to anything other than the latest Marvel movie. Where are my fellow B-grade movies enthusiasts in Cape Town that appreciate a bit of boundary pushing with their schlock?
We are travelling from Cape Town to one of the game reserves in March.
We're wondering which cab company would be the best and safest to take us on a same-day roundtrip (i.e aquilla)? Or any recommended drivers?
Also does anyone know of a rough price, so we don't get fleeced!
Hey there,
I'm looking to get one of the three dog breeds. Labrador, golden retriever or border collie. Does anyone know where to get to adopt or get one these?
Some place that's trust worthy/legit.
A neighbor just started complaining about another neighbor mowing their lawn on a Sunday (after 9am). They claim it’s in the CoCT bylaws, saying it’s prohibited.
I looked… I found no such bylaw. Anyone else heard of this? Or is this neighbor cooked?
Hi
Any suggestions for good, well-equipped (at least electricity and clean ablutions) camping spots that are relatively accessible from Cape Town (less than 2 hours), with activities for kids? Ideally near a dam or river, with fishing options.
Thanks!
Hey everyone!
I (24F) am trying to break out of the work-home-work routine and get back into something active and social. I played netball throughout high school - it's been a while but I can hold my own on the court. I'm definitely not the best but I really love the game and would enjoy playing with a team that’s in it for the fun and the good vibes rather than being super competitive.
If you know of any teams looking for players or have suggestions for social leagues, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much!
Howsit! I'm looking for some advice on a drive that I've never taken before. Anyone that has experience with this trip, I'd really appreciate your input here.
I'm planning on driving from Struisbaai to South Peninsula but there are multiple ways I could go. The one I'm looking for is whichever has the least amount of elevation with the highest speed as a secondary factor. To come up here, we took the mountain route which was nice but jirre, not much to see and too many hills.
Going back, I was thinking of going along the coast to Gaansbaai, then Hermanus then Betty's, then home. Has anyone taken this trip? Is it flat the entire way? Should I be aware of anything along the route?
Thanks ✌️
Title says it all. Feel like I'm going to the same pubs every time I'm out. Looking for a few new places to check out. Any faves?
I'm currently looking for a fire dancer for a fundraiser in Hout Bay taking place in March. Does anyone here do fire dancing or have a contact that would be keen to perform. Duration 1hr:30min max. Our compensation budget is R1000. I've looked at firetribe however our budget doesn't allow it.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I'm a single woman in my 50s and I'm considering a move to The Spinnaker in Hout Bay. I've done some research, but I'd love to get some firsthand perspectives from people who live in the area or are familiar with The Spinnaker specifically. I have a few key concerns and questions:
Safety: As a single woman, safety is my top priority. I'd appreciate honest opinions about the safety situation in The Spinnaker and the surrounding area, particularly for someone living alone. Are there any specific security measures I should be aware of?
Community: What's the community like in The Spinnaker? Is it a mix of families, retirees, young professionals? Are there opportunities to connect with other people? I'm hoping to find a friendly and welcoming environment.
Amenities and Accessibility: How convenient is it to get around from The Spinnaker? Are there shops, restaurants, and other amenities within walking distance or easily accessible by public transport? Can i safely go for walks?
General Vibe: What's the overall atmosphere of The Spinnaker and Hout Bay like? Is it a relaxed and peaceful environment? Are there any downsides I should be aware of?
I'm really excited about the possibility of living in Hout Bay, it looks beautiful, but I want to make sure it's the right move for me. Any advice, insights, or personal experiences you can share would be incredibly helpful!
Thanks in advance!
I see plenty of shops selling new boards, but not many selling second hand ones. Any recommendations?
Thanks a lot!
Hi everyone.
I was hoping I could get some help. I am starting studies again and I need some help with sourcing out my study materials.
If anyone knows anything or has these books please let me know.
Hi everyone! I’m going to be in cape town this month for work and tourism. Can you give me good places to go out at night? Thanks!!
I would like to spend a bit for the homeless, especially those who go to bed hungry at night. Can anyone recommend a charity (soup kitchen, or similar) I can donate to? I especially feel for the children and would like to make their lives slightly better
Hi all, I have a question regarding the little boot sale each Saturday next to the little Pick n Pay on Monte Vista Blvd.
Does anyone know if you have to pay or sign up, or can you just show up with a table?
Hi everyone,
I’m posting on behalf of my friend who recently got scammed out of all her savings,R75,000. It’s been heartbreaking, and I’m hoping someone here can offer advice on what to do next.
It all started when she was looking to buy a car. A lady who transports her to work every day told her about an auction house that she and many other drivers in the area use to get cars at good prices. My friend told her father, and he even went to check the place,it looked legitimate.
They asked my friend to pay 30% upfront (R9,000) to secure the car. She did, but shortly after, they started making excuses, saying the car had already been sent to auction by the bank. They told her if she still wanted it, she’d need to pay the full amount,an additional R22,000. That’s when she became suspicious and asked for a refund.
The man she’d been dealing with kept assuring her that everything was legit. To convince her, he even sent copies of his ID, SARS number, and bank account details. Despite this, she insisted on a refund. He promised to process it but claimed it would take a week, this raised more red flags because why would a refund take that long?
Later that same day, things got worse. She received a call from a number that showed up as “Bank Anti-Fraud Division” (supposedly ABSA). The person claimed there was an attempt to hack her bank account. They told her the R9,000 she’d sent hadn’t actually left her account and that criminals were trying to access her funds because of it.
In a panic, she believed them. They convinced her to transfer all her money into a “new, secure” temporary account to protect her funds. Unfortunately, she only realized afterward that it was the same scammers.
She contacted ABSA’s fraud department immediately. They said they’d investigate and call back within 30 minutes. When they did, they told her the money had already been transferred to another account, making recovery difficult. They advised her to open a case with the police while they continue their investigation.
To make matters worse, this morning the scammers taunted her by sending a WhatsApp message saying, “You failed to pay for the car but managed to send us R75k,” followed by a laughing emoji.
We’re desperate for any advice on what to do next:
Is there anything more she can do trecover the funds?
How effective are police investigations in cases like this?
Are there legal routes she can explore beyond filing a police report?
Is there a way to trace the accounts the money was sent to?
This has been emotionally and financially draining for my friend. She worked incredibly hard for that money and is the breadwinner for her family. Any advice, guidance, or support would mean the world.
Thank you for reading.
Background. I am selling second-hand clothing in Mitchell’s Plain Town Centre. A guy gave me clothes for free, twice now.
Yesterday he told me why. He said he was sitting in his car and guys armed with hammers passed by. The cars were waiting at a pedestrian. One guy just attacked a car with the hammer on the fuel tank's side. He said there were a lot of people watching and that I was the only one who shout at them. It made him stop.
I learned that shouting at them while robbing people even with a firearm, lead to them running away.
My little sister is starting at Uni at UCT this year and I'm looking for internet for her. Looks like the only FNO in her building is Cybersmart which only offers one package. The package is a bit outside her budget so I want to make sure the FNO is at least good before we make a plan to go with them, otherwise will have to figure out a wireless solution.
Can anyone recommend a winery to stay at on 20th March which offers nice accommodation; wine tasting tours and wine pairing, fine dining food ? We are told areas around Franschhoek ?
I just saw a post about Koeberg evacuation, and I thought about the potential impact of a Tsunami to our city. If we look back on the tragic christmas day Tsunami of 2004 in the Indian ocean. What areas would be affected? Any ideas? And geologists, seismologists, professionals in this sub able to chime in on this?
Hello, I wanted to ask about hiking safety for tourists. I have seen some mixed reviews over time with there being increased crime a year ago or so and I haven't seen anything really since. We plan to hike Signal Hill for sunset, lion's head for a sunrise and table mountain for a sunset. Is the hike safe before or after day light these days or would we be better off going in midday for extra precaution? Thanks a ton in advance! Very excited to see your beautiful city!
I am relatively new to Cape town and I would like to hear some recommendations for gay/lesbian clubs or just clubs where lesbians would prefer going to
