There's Colorado and then there's fishing, we just put them together.
Colorado is incredible, from the highest peaks on the continent outside of Alaska to some of the driest deserts it has just about everything except an ocean contained all in one state. The sheer number of fishing opportunities are almost limitless and with this comes the daunting task of sorting through all the information out there and making sense out of it all. Thus r/cofishing, a place to compile the best of Colorado's fishing information in order to hopefully help a few anglers learn about new areas, new techniques, proper fishing etiquette and the rules that make fishing in this state great and hopefully catch more fish (or at least have more fun trying).
Anything helps: Conditions, hotspots, tips, techniques, new regs, old regs, ect....................
Things we tend to frown upon:
1) Blatant harassment of other users, education is a good thing but as long as an angler is within the law insults and other bashing will not be tolerated. If you disagree with methods/techniques that’s fine, by all means say so but keep it civil.
2) Non-Colorado related posts; it’s not called r/everywherefishing
3) Spam or self promoting links, if you have a site with good info please post it but don't use the sub just to boost your traffic or sell your stuff.
4) Breaking the law, if you post something here that is illegal we will call you on it, these include illegal bait usage, illegal harvest and bucket biology. Respect Colorado fish and waters.

How rough are the roads to the Dream Stream via coming down from Breckenridge/Fairplay? I've heard there are some bad pot holes. Can a regular car make it safely? Thanks.
Hey guys I’m headed out Saturday morning to go try and test out some new waters. Been looking around and I’m torn between the two. I don’t have a preference on certain species I just want to get out and enjoy the outdoors. I’m also open to other spots! Just want to have a good day on the water :) I’m fly fishing btw
How’s the Poudre looking right now? Went two weeks ago and the water was crazy low in a lot of spots. Worth going up? I assume it’s too late to still use a hopper dropper set up? I’m super new to fly fishing. Pic of the last fish I caught
Doing an sat-sun overnight with a buddy and we have a few options but we’re both new to fly fishing and need some advice. Based on conditions, where should we go?
Hey all! Just got into fishing a few months ago and have really caught the bug! I’m looking to try to catch some Kokanee and have been seeing people post in Facebook groups plenty of them every day. Can anyone give some advice on where to go (in NOCO if possible) and what to use to try and catch them (spin fishing preferably)
Thanks in advanced!
I’ve fished my whole life, but only this summer have started to learn fly fishing. My knowledge of the names of flies isn’t great, so pictures would be very helpful!
What kind of flies should I be using during the fall and this time of year considering insect types still active, temps, etc.?
Does it matter what part of the state I’m in? North v south, east v west?
Thanks y’all
I live in northern NM and the water quality is rekt from big storms. How is it up on the Arkansas/South Platte? Any gauges/meters I can check online and what do I look for?
Are dry-dropper-dropper rigs permitted in CO? I can't find any regulations regarding this.
Hey everyone, I'm still getting the hang of trout fishing and usually stick to Waterton Canyon and Bear Creek. Wanted to see if anyone else notices similar patterns or has advice.
Waterton Canyon:
Bear Creek:
Anyone have tips for fishing spooky fish in Bear Creek or improving my luck near sunset? Would love to hear your thoughts!
When I show up to the river I typically start with a dry-dropper or a streamer. I'll switch to nymphing if its clear that fish are not willing to take a dry or a streamer.
Here's a pic of lunker I pulled out of Waterton during a Trico hatch!
Just looking to head out and catch some dinner.
I fish at a lake about 5/7 days a week and I have no clue when it’s getting stocked and I was just wondering
I’m not a novice fly fisherman by any means, but I’ve been having a hell of a time getting the fish in the poudre to bite this time of year. I’ve consulted hatch charts and my local fly shop to no avail. Today I was up at picnic rock and was skunked despite being out there for hours. The fish nose my fly then decided to not bite, but they’re feeding on the exact same bugs as my fly.
Today I used a double dry with a #10 October caddis with a blue wing behind it, a #14 October caddis with a blue wing, and a dry dropper #14 caddis with a small nymph. I could visibly see the fish ignoring my flies despite proper presentation and speed in the seam. Last week instead of a caddis I was using a different dry that I can’t remember (the shop gave it to me). Even my classic “day saver” of the classic pink worm didn’t work.
Just to reiterate— the spot has tons of fish, I can see them.
Any suggestions? Anybody else having this issue? I’m beginning to think I’m being outsmarted by trout.
Going to Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake for the first time this week. Does anyone happen to know if those lakes are good for large mouth or small mouth bass? Or any advice (lures, tips, etc.)
I'm new to fishing. I bought a license online, and I got a temporary authorization number. I was given the option to have the physical license mailed to me, or to pick it up at a store. I chose the option to pick it up. But it didn't tell me where I could pick it up. Where should I go to pick up my license?
Calling CO anglers
I am able to do a little fishing and camping trip this weekend. Can leave Friday AM and head home Saturday PM. I was planning to camp/fish in Poudre canyon but I’m seeing a lot of sentiment that the river is low and it’s not a great time to fish it.
Are there any suggestions of other places to go? Considering areas that are a 1-2 hour drive from Denver. Preferably a river. Don’t want to deal with 70 unless I really need to.
Any insights are appreciated. New to fly fishing and don’t know a ton of places to go.
Caught a new PB on the S Platte, nailed a swimbait!!!
Hi everyone, my fly rack opened up while i was driving on shrine pass road from red cliff toward i70. I was able to find one rod but I couldnt find the ofher 2 that fell out. If anyone found a rod(s) off shrine pass road this weekend please message me. Thanks!
I live in brighton and haven been trying to fish a couple lakes around here. I have been having a pretty bad streak of luck and was wondering if anyone had any advice?
Hey everyone wondering if there has been anything caught or snagged as far as Kokanee below blue mesa yet I know they should be close but just curious. Thanks all!!
Yesterday afternoon I was out on my SUP fishing. Once the wind died down in the evening fish were jumping all over the place and I saw several large trout swimming at the surface. I was throwing out trout HD, j-spec, and some panther martin. I had lots of small bites but only caught one small rainbow.
What’s a good top water lure for trout? Bubble and fly? I was in my paddle board so I did cover a bunch of ground. Any tips??
Currently have no license and don't have many friends in town that fish so I've been biking up to Thorton Gravel ponds and have had very little success mostly using panther martins.
I go south down south platte occasionally and get some dinky small mouths. Been to cherry creek res a couple times with little success.
was considering taking the rod over to sloan lake.
Was Just wondering if there are any places anyone could suggest biking to downtown to try for honestly anything but panfish/trout have been my primary target with my light setup.
