There's Colorado and then there's fishing, we just put them together.

Colorado is incredible, from the highest peaks on the continent outside of Alaska to some of the driest deserts it has just about everything except an ocean contained all in one state. The sheer number of fishing opportunities are almost limitless and with this comes the daunting task of sorting through all the information out there and making sense out of it all. Thus r/cofishing, a place to compile the best of Colorado's fishing information in order to hopefully help a few anglers learn about new areas, new techniques, proper fishing etiquette and the rules that make fishing in this state great and hopefully catch more fish (or at least have more fun trying).

Anything helps: Conditions, hotspots, tips, techniques, new regs, old regs, ect....................

Things we tend to frown upon:

1) Blatant harassment of other users, education is a good thing but as long as an angler is within the law insults and other bashing will not be tolerated. If you disagree with methods/techniques that’s fine, by all means say so but keep it civil.

2) Non-Colorado related posts; it’s not called r/everywherefishing

3) Spam or self promoting links, if you have a site with good info please post it but don't use the sub just to boost your traffic or sell your stuff.

4) Breaking the law, if you post something here that is illegal we will call you on it, these include illegal bait usage, illegal harvest and bucket biology. Respect Colorado fish and waters.

Denver - Dirty South Platte

Anyone fish this recently, assuming it's running but not totally sure. I'm just looking to toss a line, don't expect much.

Planning Anniversary in June - looking for advice

My wife and I always go camping for our anniversary at the beginning of June. We have already explored much of the Brainard and the area up to Estes/RMNP. This is driving from the Boulder area. I'm trying to be set up Friday evening and not drive the whole weekend.

I'm looking into camping spots closer to Granby Lake. It would be awesome to wake up, walk down to the water from the tent, and sip coffee while reeling in some trout. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Ice fishing advice!!

Yo I’m desperate for advice on ice fishing! I’ve been skunked like 5 times this month and I’m gonna lose my mind because I’m traveling soon and the tug is beckoning! Happy to help with others wanting to fly fish and trade advice. And any advice with augers I can’t get my hand auger to go through the ice and then I bought a drill adaptive one and it won’t go through either I’ve had to bust ice with my spud bar.

Spots to fish not completely frozen near Denver?

Really itching to drop a lure in this morning. Just checked out Waterton canyon with little luck up to the 4 mile point.

Taking my GF fishing - need help deciding where to go

Hey guys, I'll be taking my girlfriend fishing either next weekend or the weekend after. She's a very new angler and can get discouraged pretty easily when things aren't going well.

The two places I thought of would be Waterton (fish more eager to bite, but lots of small fish and much more walking), or the deckers area (better fish and not a lot of walking, but hard to get them to bite).

What other general areas would you recommend we try? Was thinking somewhere in Silverthorne as we've gone there together before but it's a tad far. We fished the platte in denver this summer and it was kinda gross and she doesn't wanna go back there lol.

We'll both be using light and ultralight setups.

TIA!

Fish stories … not about the fish

Tell us the fun, unexpected, surprising, or “I wouldn’t believe it if I wasn’t there” stories you have gathered while fishing the waterways of the Rockies.

May your leaders lie flat and the fish keep biting.

What is the most difficult to access fishing you’ve done and was it worth it?

I am looking to do some high alpine fly fishing this summer and was looking at the Chihuahua Lake and hiking to it but I’ve heard the hike isn’t the easiest but it got me wondering. What was the most difficult hike you’ve done where you fished and was it worth the fishing?

Looking to pick up a new hobby, help me build my tackle please!

Hello,

I’m a big deep sea and ocean fisher, but never really picked up fishing here in Colorado. I’ve been a few times at a private lake for trout fishing. I’ve lived here my entire life and never really picked up the hobby.

I want to focus mostly on trout & bass fishing.

Looking for the best tackle, locations, etc to be ready for spring.

I’m currently located in littleton and I’m hoping to find a decent location fairly close.

I’m also considering picking up fly fishing. Would you guys recommend fly fishing over spin fishing in Colorado?

Appreciate all the help I can get!

Fishing near Highlands Ranch in June

Hi, I know nothing about fishing, but I have a friend visiting and her boyfriend would love a place to fish for the day. Somewhere relatively close (like within 30-45min) of Highlands Ranch. They are visiting from CA and I have absolutely no clue about anything fishing related here 😅 any help would be appreciated!

This is my sixth year in Denver, and one thing that’s gotten me down is the lack of fishing. Sure the trout is great, but where are you guys catching bass, crappie etc. I’ve found a couple little honey holes but for the most part it’s a drag. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Pagosa Springs Fishing?

Headed up for a weekend trip in late January from NM. Was wondering if anyone has recommendations on a calm spot to fish from. Not sure how the weather will be that time of year or if anything will be frozen over yet. Appreciate any tips for fishing these waters !

Any decent lakes for perch and crappie on the front range?

Hey y’all!

I’m wondering if there’s any lake on the front range for decent sized perch or crappie? I’ve caught plenty here and there but nothing worth keeping. I fish from the bank and have fished nearly every available spot within a reasonable drive. Maybe, depending on how you pronounce it, I’m just a crappie fisher. Cheers! And happy holidays to y’all

Cheeseman intel

Thinking about making a winter trek down to Cheeseman. Anyone have strong feelings on upper vs lower parking lot? How long is the trek from the lots to the river? I know this is the opposite of a top secret spot so hoping to just get a bit of intel to help me plan a day out there. Cheers

Best class for fly fishing near Denver/Arvada?

Hi all. My buddy and I are great at other types of fishing. However, we have gear for fly fishing and SUCK at it. There are dozens of people and places offering fly fishing courses, and it is impossible to sift thru the duds. Where or from whom can we get the best possible lessons for fly fishing?

Waterton Canyon

got skunked today at the lower part of the canyon, I was fishing #20-22 flies. It wasn’t too windy, I was able to get a pretty dead-on drift consistently. Any tips on fishing the area in winter?
