Why ff users hate Brave so much? Isn't it like too much?

From reactions to different posts and discussions on reddit, I have noticed that a majority of people have massive hatred for Brave, just because it's based on chromium (though they officially declared manifest v3 won't affect them). Though Brave provides a similar (sometimes even better, like randomised fingerprinting) level of privacy, still these are not appreciated by ff users. Why?

  • I'm using Brave for years, even used Firefox and Edge. Brave and edge (mainly in pc) is unbeatable (if a good working browser environment is my priority).

Browsers aren't responding to the mouse

I can't say for sure that it only happens with my browsers, but at the very least I could interact with the calculator app I had open before the issue occured, the desktop, and the taskbar. I was using opera gx and opera, and out of the blue I couldn't click on anything with my mouse, it also didn't look like the browers were getting the info about where the mouse was hovering too (buttons that change color when are hovered above stayed the same). But in opera GX, the brower i last used, one of the tabs was and stays highlighted (probably it's where my mouse last was), as if the browser froze. The funny thing is that i could use those browers via shortcuts, like Ctrl+W for example.

Everything will most certainly go back to normal once I restart the pc, but I wonder if there's any way to find out why it happened in the first place😕

Why nobody considers Edge?

It's too good to be not even in the discussion. What exactly is the reason people can go for even opera and Arc but not Edge?

Android browsers comparison

I tested Speedometer 3 performance with battery consumption of 4 Android browsers namely Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Waterfox, and I was not expecting this.

Procedure: I ran Speedometer only once, and got the charge difference from Profiler on Android Studio (may be equated with power draw since battery voltages weren't too different across the browsers). Sufficient time was given after each run for the phone to cool down to not encounter thermal throttling.

Phone specs: Android 14, Snapdragon 695

Results:

BrowserSpeedometer 3 scoreCharge (μAh)
Brave ver. 1.71.1214.37±0.1116,817
Edge ver. 130.0.2849.574.27±0.149,682
Vivaldi ver. 7.0.3505.475.57±0.145,606
Waterfox ver. 1.0.9.25.00±0.0518,855

Vivaldi, the most efficient browser in this test, is 3.75 times as efficient than Waterfox, the least efficient one. Edge is 1.66 times as efficient as Waterfox (Brave omitted).

Possible sources of error:

  1. Except Brave, the other browsers were tested in as identical conditions as I could provide but there is always chance for error, especially when there is only 1 iteration being run.
  2. For Brave, testing conditions were different as in 1 more Settings page was running in the background. This could have increased power draw and decreased Speedometer score as other times it scores only a little bit less than Vivaldi.
  3. Waterfox, unfortunately, was the only browser with sync turned on. This could have impacted it's efficiency negatively. Phone did get noticeably warmer after this, more than with other browsers.

I did not expect Waterfox to be this bad, and Vivaldi to be this good from an efficiency point of view. In more real world usage, expect milder differences. More testing needs to be done.

Edit: formatting and transparency stuff

What is a modern looking lightweight non cpu intensive browser?

I have a laptop with intel celeron N3160(4 cores) using fedora and hyprland to not put "load" on the baby. It has 4gb ram never exceeded 2.5gb

but whenever i load a webpage in firefox the cpu spikes up to 90% and everything slows down. is there a light weight browser which is a bit less intensive on the cpu.

for people with "Get a better PC" no the laptop is a thinkpad you cant abandon a thinkpad or the cult master would kill me

Can't change FF settings after setting a user.js

Hey guys I wanna know if u have the same problem or not but whenever I setup a custom user.js (betterfox for instance) on any FF based browser like Floorp, It's settings become uneditable.

For example when I setup the user.js, The browser's theme becomes light, But then when I change it back to dark, It'll just remain dark till I close it.

When I reopen it, It's back to light.

Now this applies to all other settings, Help please, Any solution to this?

what's a good lightweight browser

I need something I can have open without my laptop's memory vanishing from existence . It doesn't have to be the most secure thing to ever be made. I would like to also be able to have an of ad-blocker with it or even it be built-in to it. What do you recommend? 🙂

Cleaning website data?

Hi all,

Is there any benefit to cleaning website data on a regular?

I posted earlier this week about a website that wont open but will open on other browsers etc. Turned out the only fix was to clear my website data for that site and voila it worked right away.

Link: previous post

Can someone explain why this option is there in the first place and why these glitches occur? It’s odd to have a website break because of cached data…

Looking for a lightweight method of launching a website on my HTPC

Hey guys, I have an HTPC, I've an AHK script that runs at system startup that listens for key presses and launches appointed apps, this includes running a portable version of chrome in kiosk mode that uses a Smart TV user agent string to launch the TV version of YouTube. While it works flawlessly, I'm looking for a lightweight of doing this. Something like a "wrapper" that contains a minimal version of chrome like web view that we get on android, launches the website using my user agent string, accepts chrome parameters like "--kiosk" and stores the browser data on the running folder. I want it to be self-contained and lightweight where it runs as a single process.

Alternatively, if I'm hunting a unicorn, I will say that I noticed that edge browser has a web view mode, if you can link me to a guide to utilize this, I'll be happy to try it out

TL;DR in looking for a lightweight way of launching YouTube that supports chrome parameters.

I hope this makes sense, thanks guys

Does brave have reader mode on android?

The pop up for reading mode basically never triggers. Also the dark mode doesn't apply to web pages like Google search.

But they want the game/time of where it went and I can't provide that.... I feel like I'm going mad.....is there a way i can look at my browsing history? Thanks!

The only bad thing about Brave

after circling through countless browsers to find a good alternative, I have still come back to brave.

and now, my only complain is its translate tool. idk whether it is based on MS translate or G-translate, but it's quality is horrible. this is the only reason i have to go back to chrome when i need a comprehensible translation.

even immersive translation's google translate mode has some discrepancies from the og google translation. but i suppose you cannot have everything go according to you 😮‍💨

Can anyone see that I’ve checked router browsing history?

I want to check the browsing history and logs on a router, but first I am wondering if it will be possible for someone else to see that I’ve checked that. Let’s say someone else will connect to the router as admin and this info will be saved somewhere. I don’t have so much knowledge about routers and maybe sound paranoid, but I want to be sure first.
