Hi! So I've been having this problem lately on Brave browser, on my PC. No matter the website, if I'm watching anything, stop for a bit, and come back, Brave freezes entirely and the only way to fix it is restarting my computer. I've even tried force closing it in task manager, and that didn't work.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to fix this?
recently started using brave purchase my default on Firefox but I've run into a couple issues that are making me consider switching away again.
lame
some people were complaining about this on the brave form and they said this was just a cosmetic thing and that if you click on it you won't get an AI answer but I tested that and it definitely started giving me AI answers
anyway the point is I specifically wanted brave because I was displeased with the way Google was force feeding these unreliable and annoying LLM chatbots.
by having brave make this an opt out situation, rolling it out without any permission needed and then basically continuing to advertise it endlessly even after you toggle it off is frustrating.
the minimum they should change it so it's opt in and that they either get rid of that annoying button with every search or they at least give you another toggle to turn that off.
option 1: (default setting ideally) no AI answers or buttons
option 2: automatically provide AI search answers on every search.
option 3: turn off automatic AI search engines but leave the button so you can choose to get them on a case-by-case basis.
until they offer this third, I think I'm going to go back to DuckDuckGo or startpage despite their issues.
I am so sick of being automatically opted into AI services and then having stuff I
Don't want to go into setting every time to turn it off. Want a quick an easy way so I can trigger it from Alfred/Raycast
I've been using Brave for years and while quick search of this group shows it's not a new issue, it is for me! Brave is refusing to run a search for me tonight until I confirm I'm not a robot?
I've just started using Brave on Linux (distro info at bottom) and I have a question about how the browser manages active windows, because it seems to be doing something different from my last browser.
I usually use Firefox, and I've set it up so that I can open a new tab with the Mail key on my keyboard. Pressing my Mail key executes this command, opening a new tab.
xdotool getactivewindow key ctrl+t
But now I've switched to Brave browser, and that command no longer works. When I've got Brave open and I press my Mail key, nothing happens.
I've tried alternate commands:
xdotool key ctrl+t
and
xdotool getwindowfocus key ctrl+t
but no result. Does anyone know how to fix? What is Brave doing with its browser tabs/windows?
Thank you!

Hi There,
My Brave browser shuts down abruptly when I open Youtube. One tab or multiple tabs that are open close as soon as I try to open Youtube.
Any idea on what's going on and how to fix it? I appreciate your help!

Turn on / Turn off Ad Settings not working at web tab “Settings for personalized ads” (https://adssettings.google.com/) which generates a “Something went wrong. Try again.” error. Tried too many times with no luck. This problem just started after updating the browser. “Brave is up to date: Version 1.64.113 Chromium: 123.0.6312.86 (Official Build) (64-bit)”. I’d appreciate some help on getting this annoying problem fixed.
I'm on arch linux and I've recently installed gnome-keyring and libsecret packages in order for a program to work because it required them, but now every time i open brave for the first time in a boot, the "default keyring" prompt shows up and i need to authenticate with the password. How do i remove brave from using default keyrings as it was before?
I know that Brave is a good browser to surf the Internet without leaving any digital traces, etc. But when it comes to creating new accounts, which is especially important in e-commerce and dropshipping, Brave seems to no longer be what is needed. Now I'm comparing Brave and such alternative anti-detect browsers as Gologin, and the second one seems to be a more optimal choice to bypass identification systems, as well as avoid blocking new accounts. Have you heard anything about Gologin or perhaps have personal experience using this browser? One way or another, it is important for me to hear an alternative opinion, and also to find out the pros and cons.
I need to know how to transfer my Brave config to a new PC. Copying to a new profile works flawlessly, but a new PC does not. Things I've tried:
Transferring the profile folder(s): Doesn't work. Brave says my settings are corrupt when I go into them on the new PC, extensions aren't there, etc.
Transferring the whole Brave folder: Same as above.
Sync: Works somewhat, extensions and bookmarks and good, settings are hit or miss (so that's a no) and flags definitely aren't there.
Shot in the dark but has anyone had success transferring to a new PC? (As I said above, transferring to a new profile works, transferring to a new PC does not.)
Not having a way to backup configuration, making me waste hours of my life to re-set-up, and risking the time I put in to configure is a massive no-no; so if not, I'll look elsewhere for a secondary browser. Thanks.
Edit: Found a way to have it all done flawlessly... but no one ever helps me, so... nah.
I turned location access off. I meant to turn it off. I want it turned off. This is super annoying. I get that some people may have turned it off and wonder why it's not working, BUT a simple switch "hey, I know it's off, don't EVER ask me to allow it" would be nice. I can enter a zip code if needed.
I specifically go into settings on EVERY new install and turn ALL of these permissions off, so being asked about it is annoying.
Also yes, I'm using a Private Window and it would remember if I used a normal window, BUT it shouldn't ask to begin with if I manually turned "Location" off in the settings.
Anyone else having this issue recently while using Brave Browser? When i click on the chat icon up on the top right hand corner of the window, i either get taken to an http error page (not a reddit page, but a complete and total broken brave page) or it starts to load but never completely loads and then mysteriously just closes the chat window. Very frustrating and constant. Hasn't worked once since it started acting up. I have to switch to another browser if I want to use it at all. HELP!
Hi everyone!
I’m new with this browser and I would like to delete all cookies, history… everytime I close the browser, but without losing the login in websites like Twitter, Discord, Twitch… I’ve been taking a look but couldn’t find the option. Is that even possible? I’d appreciate some help.
I need to reinstall my OS, what is the best way to carry all my Brave data over to the new install? I've never used the Brave Sync option but from what I can tell it appears to be a way to sync the data between 2 separate PCs, not backup your data to carry over to a new install. I also read somewhere that copying the profile folder from the old install and then overwriting the folder after reinstalling no longer works, and there's no more password export option in the browser either so I have no clue how I can transfer everything over to a new installation. the only think I have been able to export is my bookmarks, but I need to know how to export my passwords, and brave rewards data as well. also I think I need to disconnect my rewards account before I format the drive, is that correct?
any help would be appreciated.
the current OS is Linux Mint 19.3 and I'm going to install the current version of Mint after formatting the drive.
Brave info is:
Version 1.61.114 Chromium: 120.0.6099.199 (Official Build) (64-bit)
I've started receiving messages from youtube that adblocking was detected. Previously, I just had to upgrade Brave to the latest version for them to vanish. Now, for two days, that is no longer enough.
Any ideas? Are others experiencing the same?
Slice is a new plugin for brave browser and it seems to pay pretty well.
Get paid for viewing small ads as you browse the web, mostly you don't even notice them and you can close them if they are intrusive.
Just create an account and install the plugin, activate it and start earning crypto, you won't get rich or anything but it's a nice source of additional income without any real work.
I've been getting the whole "Appears you use Ad blocker, try premium" for a while, but you open in a new tab, refresh, and wait and it general works.
Now I'm getting completely locked out with the only buttons to push are "turn off ad blocker" and "try premium." Refreshing does nothing. New tab does nothing. Can not watch youtube with Brave on.
Sooooo I logged out. Works perfectly fine now. I assume that means they are flagging particular accounts instead of "brave just not working."
Any thoughts? I guess signing out of Google wouldnt be a bad thing, just no way to save all your youtube interest I guess.
