Möge Tee?

Does anyone know when that bubble tea shop is supposed to open? The one in that new building next to North End Center?

I thought I saw somewhere it would be October, but since that's come and gone I wonder if we'll be getting it now at all?

Stargazing spots.

Hey guys, I’ll be camping in the area next month, and was looking for areas to go stargazing. My friend has never seen the milkyway, so we’re looking for areas where you’d see the milky way with the naked eye, would y’all have any suggestions?

Hey all,

I wanted to see if anyone has seen a Pikachu 3DS anywhere in Blacksburg? I lost it over the summer and I turned up dead ends through Virginia Tech and BT.

Seeking Participants for VR Green Infrastructure Research Study

Hi all, plugging a research study here in case anyone is interested!

We are looking at how different functional types of plants affect the ability of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) to provide a variety of services, such as hydrologic, water quality, and culture. This experiment will focus on cultural services provisioning since it is essential to public acceptance of GSI due to the highly visible nature of green infrastructure, which requires greater public buy-in than buried, grey infrastructure. We are using virtual reality models of real-world systems as well as uniquely designed systems to determine what landscape level features and plant traits most influence perceptions of aesthetics and sense of place, two major cultural services provided by GSI.

We’re currently looking for participants (both affiliated and non-affiliated with VT) to help validate these virtual reality models by comparing them to real world systems. Participants will walk through a model using a virtual reality headset and then complete a follow-up interview where participants will work with researchers to map out their personal perceptions of plant characteristics.

If this sounds interesting to you, please feel free to fill out the form! Thanks!

Good neighborhoods for trick or treating?

We just moved here this year. Does anyone have any recommendations for neighborhoods to take our daughter trick or treating in? We'll try ours, but I suspect it might be kinda dead.

Advice on Towing Situation

My friend recently had his car towed in his apartment complex. This occurred last night after another resident found the car parked in the space dedicated to their unit. Shortly thereafter, the resident called the emergency police line 4 times to report an "accident", and the towing company came and picked up my friend's car. Then, the resident who initially called the police parked in a different space, not dedicated to their unit, and stayed there overnight. Since it was a late-night tow, the cost is $180 cash/$190 card.

For context, the numbers denoting parking spaces are extremely weathered and faded, enough to not be reasonably legible. Over the course of the past semester, there has been a collection of around 4-5 vehicles that have been parked in incorrect spaces as a result of this, but since they've been consistently doing this, my friend believed that where they had been parking was the correct space for their unit. Coupled with this, there has been a vehicle parking in my friend's dedicated unit parking space this entire time, furthering the assumption that where he was parking was okay.

The towing company operator was as unhelpful as you would expect in a situation like this, and the conversation boiled down to "I don't know what to tell you. It's $180 cash, $190 card." The car occupying my friend's dedicated space was towed this morning, which led to an awkward conversation between my friend's roommates and the resident, and now the situation is a cluster because one resident started a chain reaction of towing throughout the lot.

Is there any recourse he would have here? I can't imagine he has much to work with since the towing company can just say "You were in the wrong space and a resident verified it." The only thing that doesn't sit well with me is the numbering of spaces being poorly maintained. The landlord complained to the HOA about this and was upset with the situation, and the HOA merely wrote it off with a text saying "we'll take it into consideration" before the landlord demanded a phone call.

Getting out of Asheville for the weekend

Hi neighbors 👋

Asheville resident here. We’re getting out of town for the weekend in hopes to get a bit of a break from it all…My wife and I are considering getting a hotel in Blacksburg for Thursday - Saturday (we have family in near Wytheville, going there after).

Anything special happening? Fun things to do?

Any recommendations for breakfast spots, breweries, good food (bbq, Italian, middle eastern) etc?

Never been to your city. Excited to possibly stop by, have some fun and get some rest.

Thanks 🙏

Collegiate Suites lease is crazy??

Does anyone know what is up with the new lease terms for Collegiate Suites and why it has so much crazy stuff in it? Stuff like they can put someone to stay in your bedroom with you and you can't do anything about it. I've been saving up to live off campus for my final year of college but my sister (and guarantor) doesn't want me to live there and doesn't support it. From what I've heard from a friend who lived there this year, the lease was not previously this crazy and it's because of the new management that took over a few years ago. I don't want to back out because I paid $200 in application fees plus $300 in deposit and now I'm worried about getting back, but I haven't actually been charged yet. Any info would be really appreciated!

Ages 13 & Up: $5.00, Ages 12 & Under: Free
The City of Radford concludes their 2024 Summer Concert Series featuring The Chairman of the Board, a national and international R&B, soul and pop singing group from North Carolina. With one of soul music's all-time great group names, the Chairmen of the Board has pleased music lovers for over 30 years. Formed in Detroit, Michigan, the Chairmen were one of the first acts signed by songwriting legends Holland, Dozier and Holland for their Invictus label following the writers departure from Motown. The group came out of the box strong in 1970 with the wonderful "Give Me Just A Little More Time," a classic early 70's radio smash. Over the years, the Chairmen of the Board were among soul music's most consistent hitmakers, scoring big with "Pay to the Piper", "Finders Keepers", "Chairman of the Board", and the blissful "Everything's Tuesday". The Chairmen continued to record with moderate success, scoring a surprise hit in Europe in the early 2000s with the joyous "Bless Your Heart". Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase through the Radford Chamber of Commerce. Food trucks will also be available to grab some dinner during the event. Bring a chair and/or blanket. Gates open at 5:00 PM and the concert begins at 6:00 PM.

Best place to find someone to take over a lease?

Hi all, I am unfortunately leaving Blacksburg somewhat abruptly and heading back to NC. I lease a townhouse under Townside Property Management that I absolutely love, but can no longer live in. The townhouse still has 1 tenant in it, but I am looking to have 1 or 2 people take over the rest of the lease from me in the next month or so. I just have no idea where to advertise this. I posted on some Facebook groups and also made a listing on Craigslist... Are there appropriate subreddits for this sort of thing?

Also of note, property management does not allow undergrads to rent from them, so I don't think posting on the VT sub will be very helpful.
