Hi, everyone. I'm currently reading "Post-Bop Jazz Piano" by John Valerio.
Following images are from the chapter about Bill Evans:
I know this book contains many "Evans-like" examples created by author himself. But this part is referred to as "a later version of the same song," so it seems to be an analysis of Evans' actual performance.
Does anyone know what exact Bill Evans song these are from?
Thanks in advance!
Hey I'm a big fan of Bill Evans and started trying to make some videos about my understanding of jazz harmony as it pertains to specific tunes
So I took Emily in G with the chord chart from new real book vol 3 and did that. There's a short version that just talks about the harmonic concepts in the chart and a longer version with a head melody playthrough
Ask me questions and i'll try my best to answer
Does anyone know of any songs with a similar feel to the songs on 'Affinity' by Bill Evans and Toots Thielemans? I can't get enough of the rhodes and the chromatic harmonica. i'm looking for something with a similar feel, a chill record to walk around at night through city streets. Thanks in advance, friends.
My fiancee and I are obsessed with this man, we listen to him every night in bed before we sleep β€οΈ
Just found this subreddit. Any other 0.01 percenters out there? π€

My latest album is challenging. Lots of focused, spontaneously composed solo piano, spontaneously composed solo piano arranged with upright bass and percussion, and even a hand-composed closing track, consolidated and arranged.

Has anyone else ever cried listening to Bill Evans because of the beauty conveyed through his playing? I feel he can reach inside your soul, he truly elicits so much emotion in his lyricism and harmonic expression. For me his rendition of βHaunted Heartβ on Explorations has made the hairs on my skin stand up and set my tears flowing, all my heartbreaks return to me but I feel catharsis in hearing him play the beautiful lines. What songs of his captivate you beyond description?
This album has quickly moved up to being my favorite go to for listening on vinyl. I have one of the copies printed in the EU by Waxtime. I can't afford the MOFI edition but are there any other editions I should be looking for that just sound great?
I am not a psychologist, neither are you, but after watching him in an interview and picking up on weirdisms that we've all seen, now I see he also can't make eye contact with people it really speaks that he had some kind of personality disorder, of which is undocumented. Back then they would've just thought you were shy I guess.
Hello!

Is there any video footage of Bill Evans with Miles Davis?
Thanls!
i was listening to a version of Bill playing Solar and it's almost unrecognizable. i have no idea what changes he's soloing over. anybody else notice that? or do i have a terrible ear?
normally i can follow along pretty well with the changes, but it sounds like he re-harmonized it beyond recognition.... or maybe i'm wrong?
thanks!
I've been a musician for a long time, and never have I been so hesitant to share a song as I am to share this one. This is my version of "Time Remembered". It's not jazz, so please don't expect a low-key, late-night version. I'm a guitar guy (rock, metal, blues, R&B, funk), and this is my "rock" version of my favorite Bill Evans piece.
My friend Karl played the drums (he's an amazing drummer) and I played everything else. I tried to record as live as possible and nail things in as few takes as possible.
I've never looked at the sheet music for this. I figured out the chords one late night when I couldn't sleep. I'm hesitant to look at the actual music because I don't want to find out what I'm doing wrong. Regardless, I'm in the ballpark and I'm actually pleased with that.
Thanks for your time. I hope you enjoy it.
Hi everybody! I want to listen to Bill Evans. I'm a big music fan but I haven't listo to his music, besides his collabs with Miles Davis. Do you have like three albums that I should listen?
