Hello everyone! I'm currently reading the bible and I would love to find someone (or a group of people) to read it together with, so we can have some accountability with each other and maybe we can even share and compliment different interpretations on each chapter! For a bit of background: I grew up Catholic and after a few years I became an atheist, and the Holy Spirit saved me when I was 14 Now I'm 19 and just a few days ago I picked up my bible for the very first time, and now I'm in Genesis 24! I sometimes slack off though and forget about it, and sometimes I want to share my own interpretations on the gospel with someone else and hear what they have to compliment on it! If anyone is interested please message me. Thank you so much and God bless! :))
If most Bibles are translated from the Masoretic text where do we get the masoretic text from? What are the documents that preceded the Masoretic text in Hebrew? I realize the Masoretic text was written anywhere from 900 to 1100. Was it a Hebrew translation of the Septuagint? Does anyone have an idea of where we got the Hebrew bible from and when it was first written down? Also is the Septuagint a good translation?
I received an NRSV Catholic Bible as a gift last year, but this year, I’d like to try an RSV-2CE Bible instead. I’m deciding between the Great Adventure Bible and the red-covered Ignatius Press Bible. Which one would you recommend? I’m not looking for a study Bible.
Yeah I know it’s been removed from certain versions but that’s not my query. Why did Jesus say they had little faith and that’s why they couldn’t cure the boy, but then go on to say, it wouldn’t go out without prayer and fasting anyways ? That’s confused me
If you know, would you please cite any passages of the Bible that show an example of someone having legal immunity?
(This means that a crime or offense did in fact occur, but the defense is immunity and so the offender cannot be prosecuted or made to pay damages.)
When I think about Jesus, since he is a perfect creation from God, I would think he would be the most beautiful looking person to ever walk the earth, until I read the bible verses in the title. Many Christian websites I've visited all say the same thing about Jesus, that he was at least average in a physical sense and not attractiveat all. At the same time, they said that Adam and Eve, the first humans, were very beautiful looking since they were directly created by God before sin took over. Only when they sinned is when the physical flaws and sin started to appear.
So with all this, wouldn't have Jesus been created the same as adam and Eve if not better? Considering he is a perfect creation of God, I would think he would be the most beautiful looking person to ever exist both in heaven and earth! He was directly created by God, Who can match God's artistry and power? Nobody! He is perfect in every way. How can he not create the most beautiful man on heaven and earth?
I've been listening to Gary Hamrick on YouTube everyday going to work. I never really got into a lot of the books of the Old Testament but, on the car ride home I accidentally put on the part where he goes through one of the chapters in Jeremiah talking about the siege of Jerusalem and how Nebuchadnezzar put out the kings eyes after executing his sons. The entire book reads like a cautionary tale that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.
Hi, all.
I'm looking to undertake memorizing a new passage each week. Memorizing singlular verses without context seems incomplete, but that's all I can find online.
That said, does anyone have recs for which passages or an order to memorize? I was considering Psalms just for simplicity's sake, but if anyone has other plans that include different passages, I'd love to hear about them.
TIA!
Hey All !
I am not religious at all, meaning I do not follow a religion at the moment. However, I heavily believe in God and wish to worship him correctly. While I am exploring religions, I do want to purchase a Bible to deeper my relationship with Him. I have no idea what version I should purchase. I wanted to purchase the SheReads Bible but it is a Christian Bible and looks extremely edited. I want the most closely translated to the original, but also that I can grammatically understand.
I can’t give much context due to the fact that this situation is ongoing and continuing to worsen.
About a month ago, my husband and I had a falling out with a family at church over something quite trivial (regarding whether or not we were going to attend one of their teen child’s vocal performance for a competition). We wanted to go but they were upset that the teen did not make it past semi finals the day before, but the teen still had to play the violin for another teen who did make it to finals. We were accused of supporting this other teen, who is in the same district. We decided not to attend after all out of respect to them.
Long story short after some (minor to us but apparent not minor to the husband of that family) things transpired, we were told to not contact any of the family. We still attended church twice since the no contact began (we thought we could attend our own church and kept our distance as required by them) but their younger daughter both Sundays came up behind me and hugged me and ran off crying before I could say or do anything. So Monday I messaged her and told her I was sorry about what was happening but that I still cared and if she was able to, I was willing to still talk. Immediately I was blocked, possibly not by the child but by the parents. The next day my husband contacted the mother, who had waved at us the week before, despite her husband saying they were taking a break from us asking about the younger daughter since she was upset that Sunday and since I was upset about being blocked as I considered the young girl as a niece and the family previously considered us like family to them.
The husband that night contacted my husband and more firmly stated to not contact any members of his family but seemed to indicate that his wife and younger daughter were not in agreement with him so us contacting them was undermining him. Unfortunately the two men are also coworkers and must communicate for work reasons but contact has been nearly nonexistent and I’m concerned that if they see us again at church this coming Sunday that things will escalate further, possibly risking my husband’s job.
I do not want to attend anymore because I have been extremely upset as the situation worsens. My emotions have been all over the place and as it is a very small church with less than 100 attendees, I’m afraid that my emotions will get the best of me even seeing them from a distance. Their older teen daughter is on the worship team and glares at us in the audience while she’s singing, and their younger daughter is increasingly appearing to be upset or crying which is horrible to see. I’m unable to focus on worshipping the Lord or paying attention to the service.
My husband has repeatedly refused to contact the pastors because he said if he tells them what is going on they will contact that family who he is sure will make things even worse than they are. I do not think there will be any more option for reconciliation at this point, and my sister in law who attends another church has said to no longer contact them because she believes the Lord has removed them from our lives because there were signs this family was toxic years ago that we did not pay attention to.
I tried to find another church in the area but all the ones I’ve looked into that are English speaking adhere to many very unbiblical practices. My current church is nondenominational, Spirit-filled but not charismatic. The church believes in the gifts still being for today but the church does not state tongues are required for salvation or as evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The other churches I’ve found have apostles and false prophets, prosperity gospel or female pastors, among other things.
My husband said, as the spiritual head of the family that I must attend with him but I truly think us being there (it was that family’s church before we started going) is going to make matters worse. He said he will only approach the pastors if they do or say anything to try to get us to stop attending, because both pastors are friends of this family.
Why should I do? We no longer can reconcile with them and husband doesn’t want me to go to the pastors or mention the situation to anyone in case they talk to the family to try to fix things. I am feeling more and more anxious about this Sunday as the week gets closer to ending. I’ve been praying but only feeling worse about going, and worse about tying to attend another church, alone without my husband. Neither option gives me any peace. I do believe all of this is spiritual warfare which is why I want to contact the pastors but again, my husband refuses despite me asking multiple times a day because of how upset I am. I’m not trying to reconcile with the family right now due to the animosity of the husband and older daughter, I just need to know where I can go on Sunday.
Please advise, I badly need to know what to do.
Update: my husband texted the pastor who has requested I call him once I get out of work so I will be speaking to him so that at least he is made aware.
I am looking for a Bible that is a parallel Bible for kjv and nlt, but also has a note taking section. I’d prefer it to have some kind of leather cover, even if there is a place to order it custom, does anyone have any recommendations?
I am writing to do it around me right now. I find it interesting like one of the rules is for a Virgin woman. If she doesn’t scream inside the camp, she must want to be defiled if she gets to talk to the country it’s assumed she’s raped she also has to marry her rapist!
As an agnostic interested in exploring the Bible and Christianity, what is the best translation to help me understand the text and evaluate if there is a God and if Christianity is true? Basically, I'm looking for a version that would help me "see" God or "know" God.
Hello,
I'm looking for a good NLT audio reading version from Spotify to follow along with my Bible. Does anyone have any good ones? I followed along with the NLT Bible: Streetlights Audio Bible but the music that plays as it's being read is a bit of a distraction.
Thanks.
I host and lead a men’s Bible study and I’m trying to figure out how to structure it.
I feel wary of using any book other than the scripture - but I’m no theologian and I’m 27.
I’ve heard many people suggest reading a book where someone else breaks down the Bible and discusses chapters every two weeks.
Thoughts?
I enjoy reading my Bible at nights but would love to listen to an audiobook version of the Bible while driving to work due to having a long commute. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I am willing to pay!
My goal is to read through the whole Bible this year. Anyone else with the same goal? Where are you starting? Have you done it before?
Also feel free to join if interested: r/bibleinayear
Just looking for inspiration. What is everyone’s favourite Old Testament book, and why? In what way does that certain book affect your spirit?
In Genesis, each day of creation starts with "And God said" but in the process of making mankind in verse 26 (using NIV), it now changes to "Then God said,..."
What is the importance of that change?
First time ever posting. I am in the middle of a conflict between my wife and my sister. I understand, with my strength alone, I couldn’t change their minds. I want to pray to the Lord for guidance on what I should do and what I should pray for them to open their heart to understand and forgive each other. What are some Bible verses and advice I should look into? Thanks for reading my post.
Particularly the part about man shall not live by bread alone but by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of God
What does the Bible say baptism is for? Both Water and Spirit baptism? What does it represent also? Provide SCRIPTURE please. God Bless You All. Shalom
I'm having a hard time understanding this so is it saying that literally all animals before the flood were plant eaters even ones that physically cannot eat plants and the vast majority of ocean animals
Or is it just a metaphorical meaning for like all foundation of food?
Im currently participating in a year long bible reading challenge and I was reading through Genesis and wondered if God was to command Adam and Eve to not eat from the Tree of Knowledge, why put it there in the first place? I apologize if this a frequent question but it was just something I was wondering.
Happy New Year, and God bless!
Hi,
I've been working on a documentary for the past few years, and using scientific discoveries, have proven that both the secular historians and biblical scholars have been wrong about the Exodus. The evidence is real and it's convincing. Would love to hear if anyone thinks I might be onto something very big with this project.
The correct date is 1174 BC, and I lay out all the evidence in my YouTube video.
Any comments welcome, or if you find any flaws in my research, I'd be happy to hear about it.

When I distill down many of my frustrations with Christian culture and worldviews I’m left with a significantly high percentage coming from Paul’s writings. For decades, I have tried to come to terms with this and failed to find a thread that I can squeeze through to authentic faith.
As a result of this, I’ve found myself questioning why Paul is treated with the authority he has been given.
When I read the Christ say things like “many shall come in my name” and discussions of imposters in general there is a fissure of hope that maybe Paul wasn’t who he said he was. Maybe this deception is why many can’t come to terms with the teachings of the Christ.
I’ve been looking for similar viewpoints and haven’t been able to find any good literature about these perspectives. Certainly I’m not the only person to question this.
Can anyone share material around this?
Well I have ocd.. And I had this one question which I can't answer just stuck in my head..
The islamic faith..
there is a line which apparently says "Jesus didn't die, it was made to appear so"
How do I counter this?
Now I know that this is a baseless and arrogant claim, and hence totally wrong..
But I want to like.. refute this better, cuz people believe in this crap.. BLINDLY..
Makes me question "why do people believe in it, if it's so damn wrong"?
I would LOVE to hear from others who have had questions like this..
Thank you so much, I'll reply more in the comments!
Grace be with you always.
I know the Bible is the true eyewitnesses of Christ.. And I believe it wholeheartedly. But this isn't an attack on my belief.. It's just a question as to "why does it even claim such a ridiculous thing, and people believe it?".
What does that mean to you?
How do you all interpret Genesis 9:4?
Is there a significant meaning behind the number 40 in the bible? Rained for 40 days and 40 nights for Noah, Moses spent 40 days and 40 nights on the mountain, Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness.
