Your actions, attitudes & habits are a reflection of your thoughts*

Your actions, attitudes & habits are a reflection of your thoughts

Scripture: Philippians 2:5 “Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.”

We cannot see the mind of a person by looking at that person’s head, rather we are guided by the person’s actions. Those actions tell us that the person either likes you or hates you. Sarah gave her maid to her husband Abraham so that she can have a child by her.

After Hagar had the child with Sarah, her attitude changed and Sarah saw that the maid now despised her and felt like she is the rightful mother of the house (Genesis 16:4ff). In the same way when Hannah could not conceive, Peninah’s behavior towards her showed her that she despised her (1 Samuel 2:1ff).

Sometimes people treat us in certain ways although their words were positive, their actions are negative. Sometimes we have to understand that body language communicates more than verbal language. You bring someone to your church and while you are there you treat that person like a second class citizen and you are surprised to see them leave? How do you think dumb and deaf people express love?

Words which are not backed up by actions are shallow and useless. Many people say that they love God. But how can you love God whom you have not seen and yet hate your own brother? (1 John 4:20). If any man says he loves God and yet hates his neighbor, he does not love God and the spirit of God is not in him (1 John 4:8). The Bible also tells us that if any man neglects his family, he is worse than an unbeliever.

Now you see that the word of God is referring to our actions, attitudes and behaviors. They have a serious effect on our walk with God because they reflect our thoughts. Thoughts are sometimes spoken, but they are almost always acted out.

Is there a general consensus among scholars and (or) believers regarding the identity of the Two Witnesses?

I just have this question and wanted to explore in depth about these two figures, thank you very much all.

Lamentations

What is the book of lamentations about and why does it have every verse represented with a Hebrew letter above it?

Does Matthew 11:11 mean you have to be better than John the Baptist to get into heaven?

“Truly I say to you, there has not been anyone born greater than John the Baptist, although the one least in the kingdom of heavens is greater than him!”

Terrible fathers in the Bible.

Out of all of the fathers on this list, who was the worst?

1.) Massanah: Sacrificed his children to false gods.

2.) David: Refused to lift a finger when his daughter was raped.

3.) Saul: He tried to kill his own son because he thought that the latter was in cahoots with David.

4.) Lot: Offered up his two daughters to be gang-raped by an angry mob. Then he got drunk and slept with them (.........ew).

5.) The man who offered the Levi priest shelter: Just like Lot, he offered his daughter up to be gang-raped.

6.) Jacob: Deliberately favored one son over the rest of his children. He also did nothing when his daughter was raped.

7.) Laban: The entire trick he pulled by having Leah get married in Rachel's place.

8.) Abraham: Sent his own son and mother out into the desert with little food or water.

9.) Eli: Failed to correct his sons when they sinned and became corrupt.

10.) Samuel: The same as Eli.

What do y'all think?

2 Peter 2:17-22 and Christian music

hello! recently my dad came across a youtube video exposing basically all Christian artists in the industry and how they’re all just in it for the business, aren’t actually believers, have conflicting beliefs to the Bible, etc. my dad feels like his whole world has been turned upside down and feels guilty for using these songs this entire time as a form of worship. he’s been deleting all songs from any of the artists that the video included. (the video also exposed others as well, not just Christian artists, such as well-known pastors).

what i don’t understand is, if the song has actual Bible verses in it, has good meanings, praises the Lord, what does it matter about the artist? the song doesn’t have anything to do with the artist, but he mentioned that saying “one bad apple spoils the barrel.” does 2 Peter 2:17-22 give any insight into this? he also mentioned how listening to the songs contributes money to the artist, which i understand is messed up, but that’s between the artist and God?

just as people pray over their food before eating it, could you go about praying over the songs before using them to worship in that sense?

Edit: the video my dad watched also backed up everything he said with receipts, such as clips of what artists say, etc!

Revelation 9 -- God's people are not to be harmed. But I thought we were going to be raptured before the tribulation?

Was does Revelation 9 make sure to say that satan and his demons can not harm those sealed by God, if we, the church, are supposed to be raptured before the tribulation and this scene?

Most important Bible verse

I’m doing my morning Bible devotions centered around the most important Bible verses. Question for you: if you could only have access to one Bible verse when telling a new person about JESUS or the theme of the Bible what would it be (please do not use John 3:16) thank you for your input! God bless you!

Are we to expect physical/divine healing and is that biblical?

I'm a little confused about physical healing these days. It seems that each church I hear preach on it says something different about healing.

Some say it's to be expected because it's atoned for by Jesus's death (Word of Faith preachers),
some say it is not of God because they believe sickness is used by God to correct and purify, (e.g. Paul's thorn in the flesh)
Others say healing is true but God sovereignly chooses whom he will heal and whom he won't heal

I'm not sure which is correct, I myself have a condition and I'm curious to know whether praying and expecting healing is the right way to go
Please share your thoughts

Torn

I’ll try to keep it short… I’m having a hard time keeping church in our house. I grew up a catholic, went through catechism, first communion, baptized, and confirmed. Going to church slowed down after all of it and in my mid-teenage years I dated a girl who was a Christian (didn’t know there was a difference) and she told me how they would go anywhere from 2-4 times a week to church. I was dreading going and ended up enjoying it. I felt like most of the stuff they were talking about made sense. From not worshiping a cross to not praying to Mary and having these statues of saints. The “No rules” and following God was easy.

Fast forward, I’m married and have kids. We are raising our kids catholic (the same thing our parents put us through) catechism and doing everything else. We hate it, kids complain about going to church, catechism, and the same weekend routine. The RULES are ridiculous and I feel going the “catholic route” is going to push my kids and wife further away from God.

Do we continue to go through with it until our kids are done with everything and go from there? Should we leave the Catholic Church and look for a more Christian style church? Should we leave all together and pray and do our best and stay in the right path?

I like listening to Cliffe Knechtle, Kap Chatfield, Bryce Crawford and George Janko. This feels more me.

Bless you all 🙏🏼

If Jesus didn't eat pork then why are we allowed to?

I know about Peters vision of the blanket with all the animals and a voice told him to eat whatever is there, and about Matthew 15,11. But we are told that Jesus kept kosher, why? And if we are to live as he did then why do we eat pork?

Translation Errors.

In the context of what is being said, similar words do not always mean the same thing.

In this case (see link) "search" and "investigate" do not mean the same thing, in the context of what the Pope was saying. How can we say for sure, the Bible does not have translation errors, with the respect to the context of what is being said?

https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/translation-error-behind-pope-s-call-for-investigation-into-residential-schools-organizers-1.6007147

Edit: This article demonstrate the instantaneous "Broken Telephone Effect".

How can we be sure. the right words were taken into context, prior to the words being written down, before the first scripture was written?

Christmas tree

I am looking for the verse in the Bible that mentions pagans cutting down trees and putting balls on them.

I looked but couldn't find it.

Note about chatgpt:

  1. Chat gpt saysI am not designed to help you with that. It started wring something about deuteronomy. Then got rid of it.

  2. I asked it about what parts in deuteronomy mention pagans. I am not programmed to assist with that.

Can I get some versus and passages on worry, anxiety and related?

Something I've been grappling with is the worry and anxiety of my future, specifically about my career and finances; and I know that I should not. I know I need to place my trust and faith in god, but I struggle with being able to be patient and put aside those fears. I'm not asking for career advice but scriptural guidance-because while yes I don't earn enough to make a living, I am in a way right now where I should not be worried because I have financial help; but I worry about a financial situation that, honestly, may not be something that happens for a few years-but this worry is causing me to fixate on my job to the point that I'm not actually focusing on my job at work. I know the scripture says that our employers are essentially our earthly masters, and as we work for them, we show god's grace by doing our work well.

I'm struggling to put away these worldly worries and concerns that I don't need to be anxious about right now, and know I need to turn to scripture; but I'm not sure what relevant passages and verses I need to apply.

Why are the verses of John 9:6 so popular and what deep meaning does these verses hold?

The verse talks about the part where lord heals a man's eyesight who's been blind since birth, magical indeed but am i missing some deep held meaning?

Interpreting 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

This morning I'm studying on the passage in one of my church sermons, and I wanted to share with you my understanding of it as well as gather your understanding of the passage.

To me, it appears largely a passage about faith, that we do not walk by sight but by faith, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by light. We are called to have an ambition that is to please Him as well.

Applying to my life, I see where I want to please God and to walk in a path which pleases Him and to live a godly life. So, this passage is an important reminder that the things of this world are only temporal, we have a home eternal and we must walk in faith and live our life in service to God, live our life in a manner that is pleasing to him.

If I interpreted or understood wrongly, please let me know how you understand the passage. ^_^

Recovering Agnostic

I was raised Catholic, took basically 15 years away from any religion and have recently found myself drawn to Christianity. I was never taught to “study” the Bible and truthfully never read it much (like most Catholics I knew growing up).

I’m trying to figure out what Bible to start with as I restart my journey. I’ve had ESV and NIL recommended to me so far. Anyone have recommendations or agree with those recommendations for someone who’s honestly just starting out?

[Bible history] Have you heard of the "slave Bible?" I was surprised to find out who produced and distributed it.

The so called "salve Bible was titled:

Select Parts of the Holy Bible for the use of the Negro Slaves in the British West-India Islands I was always told the evil non-Christian slave owners had it printed to keep the slaves in line. That was wrong. It was the church in England that made It.

From Wiki:

It had all "references to freedom and escape from slavery" excised, while passages encouraging obedience and submission were emphasized.[1] These references emphasizing loyalty and submission to the slave master

were instructions handed down by Beilby Porteus (then Bishop of London), who stated: "prepare a short form of public prayer, together with select portions of scripture particularly those which relate of the slave duties toward the master.

KJV Improvements to Hebrew

What are good examples where the King James version improves on the Hebrew text?

For example, when Abraham is talking to Efron, he refers to himself in in the King James version as a 'stranger and sojourner", which has a poetical flair that is not present in the original Hebrew.

Bible talk

Genesis 32-33 really made me understand a lot tonight. I’ve been having issues with problems in such and god has really made me feel like I needed this lesson on the Bible tonight. Been going through some things and how I feel that I need to forgive. I do forgive a lot than I ever have in general. Honestly so glad I went through this breakthrough everyday because he helped me.

Best order to read the bible for the first time?

Basically exactly the title. I'm wanting to read the bible for the first time, but have heard that it can be more productive to read it in a different order, and I'm wondering what the best order is.

I need help picking the best Bible translation for me.

Hello, thanks for reading my post. I really need to start reading the Bible again. but I struggle a lot because English isn't my first language and I have Hugh functioning autism. so I will read a sentence, understand every word I read, still not be able to process what the sentence is actually saying, sit there and pick apart the whole sentence making multiple short sentences just to combine them all in the end again.. so I'll have to read each verse over 20 times just to fully comprehend what's being said. also I can't read Arabic that well yet, but can speak it fluently.

I'm Syrian Orthodox Christian on my mother side and Coptic on my fathers, even though he's Syrian as well. I don't know which Bible translation to buy. I can't help but worry that whoever wrote the version I pick might have misunderstood certain things creating a 'telephone game' effect. I'd really appreciate some insight on which version would suite me the most without taking away any important messages.

thank you again. have a great day and God bless.

Who can tell me about the angel of death?

I’ve been getting pretty interested in the 10 Egyptian plagues from the book of exodus and the angel of death has always been one of those plagues that’s always been the most interesting to me. So far I know that the particular angel that took the lives of the first borns is a nameless angel that’s usually depicted with a sword but that’s all I know. I want to put the time and effort into researching the angel but I don’t have a bible and I’m getting a lot of contradicting information based on how I word my google searches. Could someone dump some information on me?

The book of Jasher in the 1611 KJV?

Does anyone know what this could be referring to? It's from the book of Jasher wiki page.

The translation "Book of the Just Man" is the traditional Greek and Latin translation, while the transliterated form "Jasher" is found in the Apocrypha section of the King James Bible, 1611

I've checked the 1611 KJV version but I don't see a mention of Jasher in the apocrypha section.

Question about Genesis 3 and the role of males.

“To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The second half of the verse.

"Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you."

What is this supposed to mean? Is it saying that women are designed to be in leadership and God gave men leadership as a punishment to women?

Are all of the verses after this one about the roles of men and women built on this one as an example?

This is not a complete thought by any means. Just want to start a conversation.
