One of the perks of working in site development

I usually see bats in the storm systems of developing neighborhoods I leave them be and they usually go on their way.

My apartment complex is like a haunted mansion. Sleeping bat behind a cobweb.

Sorry for terrible android camera quality.

We have bats living in the walls of my apartment complex. Sometimes at night we hear them squeaking through the walls.

Though I'm no bat expert but I assumed bats would avoid a place with a lot of people like a apartment complex.

Seen them twice in my actual apartment.

One flew through my balcony door and did air circles for like five minutes before going out the balcony door again. The other literally crawled from our garbage disposal, we put him on a tree to sleep. I hope the little guy is okay somewhere.

Hi

I went outside to take out the trash and I heard something flapping over my head. I saw nothing. I heard brief chirping for a second across me to my left. I saw nothing. I live in Portland, Oregon.

Bats in attic

I may have still a few bats in my attic and appreciate advice on my proposed direction: Put several bat houses on trees and one on the attached garage (painthed to match)(connected to the attic) where they seem to enter. Add a one way exit from attic to outside and seal all tiny crevice's I find(thought I got'em all last year but possibly a few crevice's left). Any suggestions yea-nay other appreciated?

Just found out that there's bats in my ceiling.

I always hoped that they were rats, because we have a problem with rats here and almost every week one appears dead or my cats catch one. I always hear like sounds of something moving? And squeaking noises in the space of my ceiling (it's not a attic, just a small gap between the ceiling and the roof.) but i compared the sounds of rats and bats and well... It seems a lot more like bats. Now, i can't confirm anything because i can't see inside of my ceiling, it's impossible and very small.

Now what? I can't do anything because i don't have money to pay someone, im a minor, and I said it to my parents and they laughed on my face. I'm scared of sleeping here. Is there any "casual" method to this?

Second bat in a week

The first one was a big brown bat that successfully flew outside by itself. I thought I'd distributed it roosting on the front porch and it had come inside the door I left open. Apparently not. We're replacing drywall in a bedroom that had water damage in the ceiling. I was not aware that my husband had actually begun working on it and it is open into the attic. It's the guest room. There's a gap under the door... I woke up from a nap about 20 minutes ago to a smaller bat flying into the ceiling fan. Closest thing I had was a towel (not the best) and I just spread it open. This is a lil Mexican free tail. It just landed on the towel and I was able to put it over a critter keeper and visually check it out. Took it out to a tree and it looked me over for a little bit and then took off into the woods. We're in southern Mississippi on a lake. We're happy to have them here, but we gotta get the water damage fixed and some bat boxes up because none of us really want to accidentally touch each other.

Southish Texas bat house location question

I just got 2 bat houses to install and question: my house faces NNW. The 2 places I can mount on the house face NE (sun from daybreak-noon) and SW (sun from past noon-dark). In the summer we get to the high 90s daily. There are plenty of nights that are in the 80s. Should I put both houses on the NE side so they don’t cook in the afternoon?

Also, there are roses on the SW side and crepe Myrtle on the NE side. Idgaf about getting rid of the crepes if it will help. Also, my Generac and HVAC outside unit are on the NE end.

ETA: it is currently 72*. (5:01pm) and the SW side of the house is a lazed 144* in direct sun, 114* in shade. The NE side of the house is 73*.

Can anyone verify this bat "cycle"/timing? Great Lakes area

MIGHT have bats in the attic. Pest guy who told me so turned out to be shady (ie state attorney-general is involved) so I'm not even sure I believe him.

Anyway, can anyone verify these facts on the breeding season so I don't accidentally kill a buncha babies?

If there are bats up there, then they're currently in "hibernation"/torpid, right?

They should be roosting/sleeping UP HIGH, right? (When we told pest guy we had not seen any bats he said that they are sleeping down low, maybe partially hidden in the insulation!)

And they could be pregnant females, right?

They will wake up when it's "warm"? But it's relatively warm here because the climate is fuckity, soooo....?

They will wake up BEFORE birthing season in May, right?

They will leave an attic to look for food when they wake up, right?

And that's when I "exclude" them using a one-way thing.

But if I don't do/complete exclusion before May birthing, I have to stop so I don't kill the pups/violate the law, correct?

Have you professionals noticed uncommon bat activity due to certain regions being a lot warmer than they generally are?

Do ALL species have to "drop" to fly?

My husband has removed bats a couple times over the last 20 years. This generally happens when we accidentally leave a screened porch door open & we find them roosting randomly in the porch corners. (He uses net and/or gloves that are leather and a thick blanket etc etc)

Usually he will gently "toss" them (low to the ground) And I believe they generally fly away but there have been a couple who have instead just "sat" on the ground.

I assume those ones are torpid. At the same time I know they don't stay there for more than an hour generally.

Are we doing this wrong? Dooming them?

How much can a bat's ear truly curve?

It might seem uncommon for many, for some who know more about bats, this message might seem like a total joke, but im genuinely curious. I as a matter of fact dont get to see bats in my day to day life and it made me stuck thinking, can bats bend/curve their ears freely like for example some specimens of rabbits usally do? This question also falls only to the bats that were born with long ears, so some species are obviously not included for this question. And lastly, I've already learned about bats being able to move their ears left & right and seen videos about it. However, im asking whether bats can bend them any further, which again might seem unreal for many but I just kinda can imagine it wierdly I guess?

here care about this highlighted part more if you want to skip my rambling, can bats (lets say long eared bats, my favorites.) flexibly move with their ears forwards and backwards too?

Calling Bats

Is it possible for a human to use a sound that would call bats to them, like if we had a recording of a bat calling for help. Would other bats come to the sound?
