My health insurance claim experience with HDFC Ergo General Insurance

This is an unrelated post but might help some.

Recently my father suffered from a sudden heart attack(16th September 2024). We immediately rushed to the hospital and I was asked for insurance details. I submitted all the documents that were asked and the hospital filed a cashless claim for the treatment. Note that this was a listed network hospital. Angioplasty was done in the right artery and a stent was placed to open up the blockage.
24 hours passed and I got a rejection email from HDFC ergo saying that
"As per the available documents, Possibility of the present ailment being Pre-Existing (as per policy terms & conditions) could not be ruled out
i.e.CAD has possibility of being pre-existing from the inception of the policy. hence cashless approval would not be possible at this juncture."

For the record, my father didn't have any pre existing disease or co-morbidity related or unrelated to any cardiac ailment or medication. The denial was unjust and unfair. I tried to escalate it to their grievances redressal but they said it's their final stand and nothing can be done. However they can reconsider my claim on reimbursement basis. I had to pay for the treatment from my pocket even after paying premium for years and promise of "100% cashless claim settlement."
My dad got discharged on 22nd September 2024 post which I filed a reimbursement claim on 25th September 2024. They sent a verification agent at my house who cross verified all the details and collected all relevant documents and information. As per IRDAI guidelines, a claim should be settled within 30 days from the date of last document collected.
A month passed by, I waited patiently, tracking my claim status on their website which said "Claim Under Process". On 29th October 2024 at 11:30pm, I received an email from them asking for past treatment records and consultation papers for the admitting ailment. Since my father was devoid of any pre existing disease, there was no "record" or "consultation paper" available for the ailment.
Interesting thing is, all this information was thoroughly verified during claim filing process, multiple times. I even attached a note from my family doctor stating that the patient has no history of cardiac illness or any medication. Now just when the claim was supposed to be settled, they asked for documents that don't even exist. It was obviously a way to delay the claim settlement process.
I wrote a strong worded letter to their grievances redressal team quoting rules by IRDAI about pre existing disease and how the current ailment falls out of scope and claim settlement timeline of 30 days. To my surprise, this got them on track and my claim was approved today morning at 12 noon.

Some Observations:
I felt like their whole claim settlement process was sort of AI driven and it was very difficult to get in touch with a human. Their customer care is pretty dumb and they have no idea how things work. As soon as I threatened them with legal escalations, they quickly approved my claim. I also wrote a thread about this incident on twitter, that helped too.
I feel like if one's case is genuine and all the pre-existing diseases and Lifestyle declarations(smoking and drinking) are done properly, there is absolutely no way HDFC Ergo can deny the claim as they too have to adhere to guidelines set by IRDAI. Yes they did delay the whole process with their so called "queries" and "additional information required" but got on track eventually when they realised I am not gonna back off.

This whole process added a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety to my whole family. I feel if the process should be more transparent and insurance companies should honour legit claims on time. I do give them a benefit of doubt as there are a lot of fraud cases too.

Tips:
A few things I learnt from the whole process:

  1. If your case is genuine and you've declared everything properly, you should fight to get your money back. Follow the escalation matrix and don't hesitate to threaten them with legal escalations. Also, quote rules from IRDAI along with the links in your emails. It does fast track the whole process.
  2. Avoid talking to their customer care. They are dumb. Converse over email, it is a solid written proof of everything.
  3. Since I bought the policy directly, I had no one to reach out to. A lot of people suggested me that if I would have bought it through an agent, they would have helped me in claim settlement. Idk how true is that, in my experience all sales people just care about their commissions.
  4. The whole process might take some time but you will get your money if your case is genuine with no red flags.

Which apartment complexes in Blr have Infrared sauna?

Hi all, I am looking for a rental prop in Blr.

Ideally around Central/ Indiranagar. But can also do around Koramangla, HSR, Jayanagar, JP nagar, BTM.

I have chronic systemic issues after my toxic mold( and also possibly lyme) exposure, and toxin deposits in my fat and muscle tissues. Hence Far Infrared sauna will be very helpful for me to mobilise these toxins. Don’t worry they don’t excrete out via sweat, so your sauna room won’t get toxic from me.

The few wellness spas which have Far IR sauna don’t have the right temperature range, and hence won’t be that much of a bang for my buck + I am already bleeding money on fixing my health.

Obv, my first preference is very good ventilation with direct sunlight in every room( the kind of properties I have come across in Blr, it’s sad that “ventilation+ sunlight” is regarded as a feature, not necessity 😪), but a sauna will be great.

So, can you pl help me with the name of the societies you know which have IR sauna( ideally Far IR)?

If you are renting out a 2 or 3bhk / know a rental place, pl lmk too, would love to check out.

Thanks. :)

Who was Subedar Chatram, and what's the history behind Subedar Chatram Road in Bengaluru?

Hey, r/bangalore!

I’ve always been curious about the names of different streets in the city, and recently, I came across Subedar Chatram Road. I’ve heard that it’s named after a person who was possibly associated with the military or some form of public service back in the day. But I can’t seem to find much information online.

Does anyone know more about who Subedar Chatram was and his significance to Bengaluru? Was he a historical figure or a local hero? Any insight, stories, or historical context would be greatly appreciated!

Hoping to find a genuine connection in a world that feels lonely

Hey everyone,

I’m[24M] here, putting myself out there, hoping for something real and meaningful. Life can get pretty lonely, especially when it feels like everyone around you has found their person or a close-knit group, and you're still searching.

I've always struggled with making friends, let alone finding someone special. I see posts here about people finding their soulmates or even just good friends through this platform, and it gives me a little hope that maybe, just maybe, I could find the same.

I’m not here for just a quick chat. I’m looking for someone I can genuinely connect with – someone who gets me and wants a real bond. I believe in the magic of a true connection, even if it starts with a message from a stranger on the internet.

If anyone out there feels the same – maybe you're also hoping to find someone to share thoughts, dreams, and laughs with – I’d love to hear from you. Let’s see if we can make each other’s world a little less lonely.

Thank you for reading. Here's to hoping for a new beginning.

Instant Fastag at airport toll??

Planning for a road trip with my family in the next few days but I had a paytm fastag and didn't change it yet. I realised just earlier today that it will mostly not work and I dont have enough balance in it to last the whole trip. I searched online where i could get instant fastags and it said they are present at most of the tolls. Is there one present at the airport toll? Or is there one at any other close toll?

Recommendations for genuine astrologer

I have recently started believing in astrology after I randomly checked kundli matching with my boyfriend. The report was very similar to reality (good and bad things). Now I want to go to an astrologer to get a better prediction because I'm sure the report generated online was a generalized one. Please recommend genuinely good astrologers in Bangalore.

Need Affordable iPhone Battery Replacement in Bangalore

Hey all!

My iPhone is about 3 years old, and it’s definitely in need of a new battery. Unfortunately, I don’t have Apple Care or iCloud, so going through Apple’s official replacement service is a bit pricey for me—around ₹9000. Plus, there’s the hassle of needing an iCloud backup and waiting about 4-5 business days.

Does anyone know of reliable, low-cost technicians in Bangalore who can do an iPhone battery replacement? If you’ve had any experience with local repair shops, I’d love to hear about the costs and any recommendations. Thanks in advance!

A crazy man assaulting an old aged woman on MG Road

While out for a run, I witnessed a disturbing incident where a man was aggressively hitting and slapping an elderly woman who was with a middle-aged woman. I felt too scared to intervene directly, so I quickly ran to the nearby police pod at the junction and reported the incident. I then led the officer to the scene.

(M19) I just got robbed

Im a student that moved to bangalore 3 months ago and im studying in christ university kengeri campus. what happened recently was that my PG that im currently living in got broken into within 1 hour of me leaving the room. I have lost my laptop, speakers basically all my gadgets except my phone and a little bit of money which is irrelevant, i dont really care about that. my total loss is over a lakh, and ive been trying to file an FIR in the Kumbalgodu Police station which has been to no avail. they have given me the excuse of being understaffed for three whole days now. I have all the evidence for this case including the photos of the thieves but they have still not helped me out. its currently been officialy 50 hours since the robbery took place. I know i will never get my items back, but i seek justice for not being put on priority in my case and in addition to this not being provided proper security and CCTV which my PG has promised. Its truly frustrating knowing that i have no security even from the police, had some physical altercation occured its really nervewracking what kind of predicament id be in right now. I need advice to deal with my current situation and i hope to find it here

Is this all there is to adulthood?

I've been living in Bangalore for 10 years now. Before I came here, I didn't have much of a social life but I used to have an interest in things. It wasn't big, but a lingering interest in anything. I used to say yes to going out and about, play a little, chat with my friends a little.

After I came here, I lost touch with almost everyone. Most of them have all grown up, got married, on their way to becoming parents. Are they enjoying themselves? I don't f***ing know, I guess! They gotta be, right?

That's not to say that the city hadn't given me new friends or whatever, but I've lost touch with and interest in almost everything. I feel like I've become a personality/soul less drifter. Wanna go out? Sure, but is it gonna be fun? Heck no. Wanna make a plan to go out of the city? Sure, but won't see it through.

Sure, these are all personal choices but I can't help but wonder why? Why did I lose interest in everything and begin drifting through life? Darned if I know! But, this is not to say that my life became boring because of the city. When I'm not in the city, I almost always wanna come back. Being here makes me feel hopeful and sometimes feels refreshing, too. Why? I don't f***ing know, it just does. Am I hallucinating? Sure, why not?

I was just thinking about playing badminton because some of my colleagues have been talking about their games, and I started looking into it. I saw a few courts, wanted to buy a racquet. But, almost immediately began feeling intimidated. I haven't played in a while, I probably suck. I am uncomfortable around strangers (Did I say I'm an introvert?), and I've lost touch with all my friends or the ones that I say hello to, don't live in the city.

This is a long 4 day weekend and I wanted to go somewhere, but my plans have gone to shit. I was partly bummed out but was also relieved because I didn't have to be at that new place. Which brought on more dread about the way I'm doing things, which (at the risk of repeating myself) feels like I'm just drifting through life with nothing new/interesting to look forward to.

I'm not interested in finding a partner to marry. (Reason: I just don't want to. Shocking, I know!). I'm not interested in finding love, I don't have the social life or the skills for it, besides I don't look good or have anything interesting to offer to a potential partner.

I have an accomplished career (I suppose that's subjective). I'm a support engineer and I have a 7 figure income. But, what's it all for? Am I doing all the wrong things? Why do I not find an interest in anything? Am I just a blip in the universe just supposed to begin, drift, and end? Why can't I maximize what the city has to offer?

Is this what adulthood is supposed to feel like?

PS: Sorry for the long post. Just needed to vent a little. Took a few days for me to muster up some interest and strength in doing this.

Need Advice on Using C++ for DSA Prep While Being a Java Developer in Corporate

Hey folks,

I’ve been coding in C++ since Class 11, so I’m quite comfortable with it. I’ve been working as a Java developer for the past year in my current job, but now I’m preparing for a switch and brushing up on my DSA skills. Here’s where I hit a bit of a dilemma: I still feel more comfortable solving DSA problems in C++ rather than Java.

For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, is it normal to stick with your preferred language for DSA, even if it’s different from the one you use at work? And for those of you who have gone through technical interviews, do companies care if I solve their OA questions in C++ instead of Java, considering I’m a Java dev on paper?

Any advice on balancing this would be awesome!

Blinkit's Shady Refund Tactics

I'm disappointed with Blinkit's recent customer service experience. After they canceled my order, they refunded the amount as a 30-day promo code. This is unacceptable, especially considering it was their mistake.

The SMS wording implies it's a free gift, not a refund. While the amount may seem small, it's the principle that matters. What if it were a larger sum? Would they still issue the refund as a promo & impose a time limit?

Customer service has been unresponsive and refuses to rectify the issue.

From the comments, it's obvious that Blinkit is doing this for bigger order amounts (1k+) too.

I've taken to Twitter to voice my concern. Please show your support by liking and retweeting my post.

Traits / likes of people in Bangalore based on the area they are from ?

Curious to know if OG Bangaloreans who have lived in different specific areas in the city, come to develop certain cultural 'attributes', behaviour or traits?

For example, what comes to your mind when someone tells you they are born and have been brought up in Basavangudi?

Diwali Crackers Pollution: A Slight Improvement, But Still a Long Way to Go

It seems like the recent Diwali celebrations led to a noticeable decrease in air pollution compared to last year. While this is definitely a positive step, it's important to remember that there's still a significant amount of pollution associated with these festivities. What are your thoughts on this?

  • Did you notice a difference in air quality this Diwali?
  • Do you think stricter regulations or awareness campaigns can further reduce pollution?
  • What other steps can we take to celebrate Diwali in a more eco-friendly way?

Let's discuss and share our experiences!!
