Main Road Apartment Traffic noise driving me nuts

I just moved into a beautiful apartment that has everything I was looking for at a decent cost but it’s facing a very busy junction. The windows all face this street and thanks to my great luck you have trucks going cross at 1am and traffic honks starting from as early as 6am. It’s extremely annoying and I’ve researched as much as possible and I can’t find a renter friendly option to drown this out besides white noise and ear plugs which also start hurting my ears after an hour. I need actual recommendations i.e links to products some one has used and works. I’m sure I can’t be the only one facing this. As I’m typing this I can hear the freaking honks and it’s driving me crazy.

Smoking & Riding a 2 wheeler

Had an encounter with a couple of dudes with DL number plate riding a two wheeler and smoking all along letting the residue fly on the ones riding behind them. No comments on this amazing behavior exhibited but smoking in public places and causing nuisance like this in the middle of the road - What's a bro gotta do about this? Is this normal in Bangalore now?

Garlic in meals sambar

I can't handle Garlic in some foods. In Bangalore, most restaurants and eateries don't add garlic in meals sambar even lingayat khanavalis don't add however I started noticing the trend some Darshinis/Sagars adding garlic to sambars and coconut chutney recently. Restaurants with name Ayodhya, Udupi, Krishna used maintain their native Udupi non garlic taste in food but now i see a change in them. Has something changed lately?

Rapido has messed up the Auto Market

Rapido’s auto prices are atleast at a 25-30% premium than the 3 (Ola, Uber and Namma Yatri) during peak hours- and this leads to drivers only accepting Rapido rides. This forces consumers to only book thru Rapido. It’s a loop.

This is some retarded game theory that Rapido is using in which the passenger is basically being bullied.

What a fucking shit show.

Meter in auto

Can we still use meters in auto? I remember using meters whenever I travelled in an auto back in 2018-2019 and they would immediately agree and turned the meter on. But lately I havent seen anyone using meters and Im shy to ask for it. Can anyone confirm if we can still ask them to use meters?

Traffic Awareness Initiative

The autowala's , zomato guys and a lot of riders/drivers lack basic knowledge of traffic rules like

  • Ride on the extreme left lane if you are slow and let others pass
  • Stick to your lane while taking turns
  • Dont stop / halt in intersections blocking other lanes, etc..
  • Never ever drive on the wrong lane, endagering your own life and others
  • Stop, look and turn, ( turn, look and stop is what happens now)

these are simple rules but hardly followed by anyone, should the traffic police have some initiative to educate the commuters

What are your biggest flexes this year?

Following a post on Chennai sub, what are your biggest flexes this year? Even the smallest wins count.

Mine would be that I finally started gym this year and started eating healthy.

What's yours?

Edit: Seems like the whole of Bangalore has gotten over a toxic ex and has quit smoking this year! Kudos to Us!! 🥳

Shitty service by urban company

Hello folks,

I’m absolutely pissed off at urban company services. I had booked for a geyser service (at 3PM)just to do the interior cleaning of the geyser but this guy from urban company says that there is a part that needs to be replaced and that would cost around 1k. I suspected he is jacking up the price and tried to bargain even agreed to get the part myself from nearest hardware store. Finally I even agreed to his quote and told him to bring the part immediately and complete the job. He promised to return at 5.30pm but did not show up even at 7pm. I tried calling him from the app at least 50 times but no response. Customer care system is absolute shite and did not lead anywhere either. The worst part is he left the geyser open with the parts out and I’m unable to get any hot water and also the water keeps pissing out even when the other taps are used. Total sham by urban company. Waiting for the guy to come back and fix my geyser so that i could have a hot shower. Don’t they fucking have a deadline to a job? Even vehicle servicing does not take an entire day these days. I hate myself for booking the service as my geyser was working fine and i just needed the cleaning to be done.

Worst delivery app DUNZO

Placed an order with dunzo …. Took more than 2 hours to deliver stating there’s no delivery partner . Unable to cancel cause the app said the order is processed . Tried to communicate with them but it’s a one way communication with a bot which they did not even reply later.
Also I realised after that I could get the same order in Zepto for a way lesser price which I later did and they were at least very responsive over the chat although there was a slight delay which I completely understand cause of the delay .

Point is , their customer service sucks and they should atleast give us an option to cancel the order is they cannot deliver it within the promised time.

Zepto (and their brethren) threatening pedestrian safety!

Living next to a Zepto dark store has been an eye-opener—and not in a good way. What used to be a relatively calm street is now a hotbed of chaos.

We Bangaloreans had all made peace with wrong-side riding. It’s just part of life here, I suppose. But now there’s an even more worrying trend: bikes zipping by on pavements.

These footpaths, meant for pedestrians, have turned into dangerous shortcuts. I’ve personally had several close calls—nearly hit 3-4 times. It’s only a matter of time before someone, especially an elderly person or a child gets seriously hurt. Oh, did I mention there’s a big school just 200m down the road?

Let me be clear though - I don’t blame the poor riders at all. They have one of the toughest jobs out there—delivering in all weather conditions while being pressured to meet unreasonable delivery times.

The bigger question is:

  • Are these apps putting both riders and civilians at risk with poorly thought-out service offerings?
  • Are we, as customers, to blame for chasing convenience without considering the pitfalls?

It feels like this system is setting everyone up for failure—and someone will eventually pay the price. What do you think?

Uber drivers dont like their customers ?

I understand that Uber drivers are facing challenges in balancing their work and personal lives. As a token of appreciation, I always make sure to give extra tips whenever I book a cab.

Recently, I’ve noticed a particularly concerning issue, especially in Bangalore. Even when I book a premium cab, the one we receive is often quite cheap, and they are hesitant to turn on the AC.

This happened many times, even when the AC is turned on, the drivers keep switching between the 0 and 1 fan speed settings repeatedly. This behavior continues even on hot days, and it seems that they are unaware of the inconvenience it causes.

Even I took an outstation ride from Bangalore to different state. Atleast 10 times I politely requested him to turn on AC. I was very patient because I can understand it could be financial issue and payed him extra. But during entire travel I kept telling him please turn on the AC I will pay him extra. He didn’t trust me at all lol. Happens locally also.

In the long run, its costly for the drivers in terms of cleaning and interior maintenance right ? Why do they do it.

Expats in Bangalore

Hi, my partner and I will be moving to Bangelore early next year. We will be there in 2 weeks to look at houses. Is there anything we should definitely keep in mind when looking at the houses?

Also, I would be interested to know how to meet people in Bangalore? Are there meetings for expats or other ways?
