Looking for summer rental in Astoria area

I just accepted an internship in Astoria starting in July. I need to find a room to rent/sublet over the summer in the area. Any recommendations of where to look?

Seeking recommendations for home improvement companies

I’m on the verge of making of an offer on an Astoria home. Before pulling the trigger, I want to know what I’m getting into. Looking for trustworthy local contractors that can provide estimates. Although many projects are needed, focused on roofing, exterior paint, and HVAC. If anyone can point me in the direction for someone or a company in one or all of those fields, it would be much appreciated.

Any pickup sports in the area? Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside.

I miss playing pickup sports! I'm down to play pretty much anything, especially anything outside. I'd love to hear about any communities that get together to be active and have fun. 29yo woman.

Several beers from local breweries here in Astoria won awards yesterday including Fort George, Obelisk and Breakside. Check out the link here https://www.youtube.com/live/sXFGUEM_2KI?si=tu70wC5nFio9fLBA and make sure and visit bridge and tunnel for all your beer needs.

Transport/Bus for group within Astoria

My fiance and I are getting married this August in Astoria. We're having the reception downtown at "The Ruins" in the old Astor(ia) Hotel. We were hoping to have the ceremony outside up at the column. The hangup is that the only commercial transport we have been able to find are charter buses based in Portland/Vancouver that come in at $2,000 or more for the gig.

Does anyone know a locally-based transport solution that would cost less?

We would need to transport somewhere between 60-80 people from downtown up to the column for a short ceremony (and then give people a chance to look around cuz it's gorgeous) and then take people back downtown again. It's likely four trips up the hill for the bus. It's probably an hour and a half of work if the bus were local, but pretty much a whole day's work if they need to drive two hours to and from Astoria to Portland.

The Column requires any such event use a bus rather than asking people to drive themselves. Which makes sense given how limited parking is there.\

Alternatively, if there is a walkable outdoor location that would be pretty and inexpensive, I'm open to that as well. (The column cost is basically zero). We would have a short, 15-minute ceremony where the only prop will likely be an arch. We may only provide seats to a few old folks to help keep costs and setup time to a minimum. We are focusing our funds on the reception more than the ceremony. I reached out to Fort George about using their Beer Pier or the ara next to it, but never heard back.

I don't know if it matters but we live an hour away and absolutely love visiting Astoria. Especially on winter Sundays when it's too cold/wet to play outside. And Fort George is possibly the best Brewery in the US!

Any Servers or Bartenders in the chat?

I'm looking for a new restaurant job, ideally a full-service, busy, fine casual (i.e. coastal fancy) dinner spot. I have a lot of experience bartending and serving.

I moved here a few months ago and don't have a good sense of what the busiest, high-spend spots are in town. Silver Salmon, Carruthers, T-Paul's? Or better to look in touristy Cannon Beach?

Thanks for any and all tips!

land use issues in astoria/clatsop

hello! i am an OSU student in a land use planning class. i decided to do my final project on clatsop county, and the last part of my assignment has me focussing on a specific planning issue of the area. i just wanted to ask people who actually live in clatsop if you have anything specific you know about as there isn't much reporting on significant issues! and by land use planning issue i mean issues regarding things like natural hazards, transportation, equity, affordable housing, natural resource conservation, community growth and sprawl, green infrastructure, gentrification, economic development, quality of life, historic preservation, or tourism. if someone could just point me in the right direction i'll do the digging. i was thinking of doing something on the astoria megler bridge and flooding but wanted to see if there was anything else i could focus on. much appreciated!

looking for recommendations

hi everyone! i recently visited the area and instantly fell in love with it. I have never been to a place I felt so at home like I did on the northern coast of oregon. after a lot of thinking i’ve decided i want to try living out there. im young & want to do this why i can. i stayed near seaside and the locals became my friends and i now talk to some of them daily. i’ve always admired nature deeply & the beauty of the mountains and ocean. oregon encapsulates all of those things so perfectly, along with the endless forests. i grew up with an uncle who moved to alaska after he fell in love with it and i know if i want to try it, i have to do it now. my plan would be moving for a 3 month period and then officially moving the rest of my things after that since i do live 2,000 miles away.

my questions are…

  • places to rent?
  • do people often have roommates?

i’ve found some really nice one bedrooms but moving alone I’m wondering if finding a roommate is a good way to meet more people.

  • vehicle dealerships vs. buying from a person? which do you prefer?

i have already applied and had interviews for a few jobs in the area but im also open to others if you have any recs! i’m a 22 year old pre med student who will be continuing my degree online.

Bulk seafood

I am going to be in the Astoria area next week with an empty cooler before heading home to Idaho. I was wondering if there was a good place to stock up on fresh seafood for my family and friends. We’d love load up on whatever is fresh, in season. Suggestions on where to go and what to get?

Actors based in Astoria

This is a strange request, but I'm looking for local Astoria actors available for 2hrs of paid work for an event in early April. I'm not from Astoria, so I'm not connected to the actor/theatre scene in that area.
Is there a theatre or entertainment company around there that could connect me to an actor?

Parking options near the courthouse

My friend has jury duty upcoming and is wondering where would be best to park close to the courthouse (ideally free but not expected). They have some mobility issues so the closer the better, ideally within 2 or 3 blocks. Can anyone suggest spots that are usually open from 8 ish in the morning and allow parking all day? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Birthday venue

Any Astoria venues you would book for a 40th birthday party? Thinking maybe 20-30 people. Would like it catered or venue to provide food. Not sure yet on alcohol but leaning toward open bar. Birthday is for someone who lives here and most of the invitees would be local. Runes? Would ft George do this in one of there smaller areas? Bridgewater?
