My wife and I are gonna be in Astoria for the weekend and I wanted to ask y'all what would be fun to do! We're both illustrators and nerds who enjoy weird paranormal/cryptid stuff, museums, and light hiking.
Stuff I definitely wanna take her on if possible is a place with afternoon tea service if there's a place in town! Any restaurant recommendations would be great too!
Bonus points if there's any roadside stops or recs for the trip coming down from Seattle!
We've visited multiple times and are planning on moving to Astoria. We have another visit coming up in December as we want to actually experience how much rain and wind the area gets.
We lived in Seattle/Tacoma for a long time, so are used to NW weather and rain, but are told the wind in particular can get nuts in Astoria. Just looking for locals' takes. In the winter are you routinely dealing with insane wind, having to lean into it, or it's like anywhere else where you have a few particularly bad days. Thanks.
Have lived in Portland for a long time but for some reason haven’t visited Astoria. Found out I have an extra day off of work this week so I plan on heading to Astoria. Would like suggestions on where to stay and what to see or do.
Have a pretty tight budget so price is a major factor in choosing accommodations. Just need hot water and clean sheets. Need a tub as I like to take a bath at night to relax, beyond that not a lot of requirements, just a clean place that isn’t too noisy. I’ll be staying two nights.
Then let me know what I should see or do. Like antiques, good food, and art. Will only be there a few days so I don’t want to try and cram in too much, happy to meander and just relax and enjoy not being at home.
Thanks for any advice.
We have a Forester and a Niro and want dashcams for them
Recommendations welcome
Lived here a little over a year, I've hit the Iredale, the Plainview, and the Washtenaw County (the latter being the most impressive, but also far and away the most dangerous). I'm looking for more to see, I promise I go just to take photos, not for any metal thieving or vandalism-related activities. Recommendations for abandoned buildings in general are welcome, PM me if you've got anything! Thanks!
It seems like the only Halloween event tonight, but not sure if worth the $25 entry fee. Anyone gone in previous years or have some insight?
I'm looking to enroll in a community college close by with the hope of transferring to a university in a couple years. Can any locals recommend this college?
I'd like to major in business. How are the teachers? Are the electives interesting? Would you recommend Tillamook Bay over it?
Their website is down right now, but I liked what I saw last time.
I’ve visited Astoria twice for extended weekend and found it to an incredibly charming, beautiful area. It’s on my short list of places to call my final home.
Last time I visited, I was speaking to a gallery owner about potentially moving there and investing in some local entertainment, and she mentioned that if I wanted to start a comedy club, that might be a good idea. I’m fairly involved in the improv scene in my current city, enough that I would feel comfortable transferring that to a new location.
The question is, what’s the appetite for this in town, and in the larger regional area? I’ve seen a Women’s Improv Group for Astoria, but am uncertain where they currently perform.
Thanks.
Oregon native, stuck in the Portland mess for most of my nearly 50 years. I'd only zipped in to Astoria to visit the column over the years but I stayed the night there finally a couple weekends ago. I've applied for a job there and I have an interview. You might say I liked the town just a bit :) I found it to be very similar to San Francisco but (of course) much smaller and slow-going.
How is the cost of living for a single person? How is it socially? I'm wanting a slower pace, cleaner air, darker skies at night, less traffic, less crime, hopefully fewer strung out druggies wandering around.
I think you know the answer!
Hey All,
Looking at buying a house in Astoria Oregon. Would need someone to rip off the wallpaper and paint all the walls in the interior. Anyone know how much something like this would cost/have any recommendations?
Hey everyone!
My wife and I are travelling through Astoria on a road trip next week and are looking for the best tourist shop in Astoria. Ideally one with lots of the cheesy hoodies/knick knacks that have Astoria written on them.
Thank you for your help, and look forward to visiting!
Any suggestions for restaurants that might be open on Thanksgiving Day?
My wife and I are visiting from out-of-state to take our adult kids on a road trip from Portland down the Oregon coast over Thanksgiving week, and we will be around Astoria on Thanksgiving Day. We would like to know what our options might be for dining out.
Thanks in advance!
Anywhere in Astoria/ surrounding areas with quesabirria? Thanks!
has anyone had a good experience with an accountant around here? i’d love to know for tax season in advance. thanks a bunch :)
Hey there! This may be a dumb question, but I'm a "google before you go" kind of person: My bf and I will be in town for a few days at the end of the week and were thinking of heading to the Columbian to watch The Substance on Friday. We've never been in before and I was wondering if it sells out quickly or if it's hard to grab a couch upstairs to watch the flick, etc. We love checking out older theaters with quirks, so we're excited to check it out! TIA
Has anyone had any luck getting transportation via uber lately here? They pop up on the app sometimes but haven't tried it.
All the other cabs are booked out and tell me I'm SOL when I call for pickups and royal cab just made me wait 2 hours today and still never showed up before I finally decided to just hoof it with my work supplies back home.
I'm running out of options and I'm disabled and trying to figure out how to get around town for work when rides fall through.
found on the crossing from the hospital to the co-op. hilarious I need to know if it's a local artist or just a meme 😂
Anyone know of a good pumpkin patch close to Astoria besides blackberry bog ?
I'm looking for someone in the Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside, or Long Beach Penninsual area who does electric guitar setup.
