🩵 At the moment, the Irish government is imposing a ban on XL Bully dogs. If you love these dogs, please consider signing the petition to extend the rehoming of XL Bullies and other Bullies this October!
🩵 “From October 1st 2024, new regulations will prohibit the importing, breeding, selling and REHOMING of XL Bullies.”
🩵 Hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent bully dogs will be euthanised in shelters this October. The mass euthanasia that is about to take place is completely unnecessary and cruel. Shelters in Ireland do a fantastic job at rehoming rescue dogs and specific breeds to appropriate and responsible homes. There is simply no need to force shelters to euthanise these bully dogs when there are experienced people willing to rescue and train them.
🩵 Please sign the petition and share with your friends & family to save our bullies! Thank you and have a wonderful day x
Recently moved to PA and am trying to get home insurance but we keep hearing from various brokers and agents that their carriers don't insure homes with a staffy or other pit bull type breed in the home. I was under the impression that PA passed a law against insurance discrimination in 1990 -- anyone out there have information on how they are still able to do this?
Thanks in advance.

The pro-pit advocacy groups Bad Rap and Pit Bull Advocates of America have debunked this myth thoroughly and strongly advise against spreading it. While some photos from the early 1900s depict Staffordshire Bull Terriers posing alongside small children, the idea of a "Nanny Dog" wasn't introduced until 1971, in an article titled "A Breed That Came Up The Hard Way" (source).
The belief that a dog can be implicitly trusted around children is not only dangerous, it places unrealistic expectations on the animal. While a dog may appear to be protective of kids, most experts in canine behavior agree that this is actually a form of resource guarding.
The truth is that dogs are PREDATORS and no dog of ANY breed should ever be totally trusted with small children. Kids - especially young ones - should always be supervised around dogs.
To those who would report this post for "breed hate": What we need to understand is that this myth is contributing to the disproportionate number of "pit bulls" that harm or unalive children. Regardless of whether or not we want to argue over the accuracy of these statistics, the statistics are out there. The public sees them, and people who are in positions of power write laws that are based on that data. It behooves ALL of us to do better for the sake of public safety, as well as the dogs that we love and advocate for.
Myths like these are doing a world of damage to all dogs commonly labeled as "pit bulls", but especially the American Pit Bull Terrier, while making the entire community of pit- and bully mix owners appear negligent and uneducated in the eyes of those who are anti-pit or pro-BSL.
For folks who are interested in learning about the actual history of the breed, please consider the following books:

I am opting to share part of the automod code for this sub. (https://pastebin.com/gwuQ2ECm) This script is intended to combat numerous damaging myths and misunderstandings about pit- and bully breed mixes that are often pushed by folks who are "pro pit bull". In a continued effort to combat these problematic statements, as well as present the dogs in a more realistic light, this script has been implemented across numerous "pit bull"-friendly subreddits.
Those of you who run or are involved in other pro-pit subs, please feel free to use this as a template, or ask the moderators of other pro-pit subs to include a version of this script in their automod.
Hi everyone,
I got a job offer in miami beach, florida. I did a quick google search and as usual I found conflicting information regarding pitbulls. One article said pitbulls and pitbull-like dogs are banned, and other articles said that rule was overturned. I obviously want to make sure my American Staffy/Pitbull mix is allowed in Miami before I say yes to the job - cause needless to say I'm not going anywhere without him.
If anyone has any insights or if anyone lives in the area and knows something, I'd greatly appreciate any and all information.
Thank you!
How would one stay abreast of pending troublesome legislation and quickly collaborate with legislators? Is there a way to get upstream of these fear-based and harmful laws, as well as the problematic individuals who create the problems. I think it time for us to embrace what responsible dog ownership and being consciously committed to the welfare of our communities entails when you love dogs and people.
Are there accessible community stakeholders that can be invited to the table?
Be well!
