Political posts and discussions are allowed here, but /r/Alabama is non-partisan. Personal attacks, lies, smears, and ugliness is over the line; the post or comment may be removed, and if there's continuing transgressions, banning may result.

Be respectful. Please refrain from personal attacks and posting anything racist (this includes images) or prejudicial (incest jokes are old and unfunny).
All submissions should be directly related to Alabama.
Blanket insults and attacks on Alabama and its citizens based on stereotypes and caricatures is not allowed. This does not preclude criticism--even fierce criticism--of the state, its people, and its policies; only that which is blatantly insulting and caricatures the state in an effort to gin up outrage and lulz.
Not Safe For Work content is not allowed on r/alabama. This includes graphic images or descriptions of violence, sexual content, and nudity. Exceptions include: images/videos of an Alabama disaster, like tornado footage; and newsworthy footage/images of violence that are marked NSFW and censored if possible.
Limit re-posting. Posting differing views of a topic is fine. If a submission is too similar to another existing thread, it may be removed. Those types of posts should be made as comments to the existing thread.
Direct solicitation is not allowed. This includes political solicitation (donate to my campaign!) and economic solicitation (come to my restaurant for 50% off!). Exceptions include information about a local event like a music festival, personal blogs that do not solicit products or services, and advertisement of petitions for Alabama-specific issues.
Editorializing linked post titles is not allowed. When linking to articles from outside reddit, try to keep post titles as close as possible to the original source. Adding detail or context is allowed, as long as it does not fundamental change the original title or adds opinion or commentary not intended by the author. Do not post links to articles as a text post without additional commentary or context.
No false or misleading information. Categorically false or misleading information is not allowed. This is not to limit discussion on things that may be uncertain, but rather to prevent the propagation of demonstrably untrue information from bad-faith actors.

I think it's clear that Alabama will be called as a red state on Tuesday, however there are local and state ammendments on the ballot. I encourage you all to make your voice heard when it comes to local and state decisions!
I was just curious of what to expect, I never voted hefore. Do I need to leave my purse in the car or can I take it with me? Do I need anything other than a license? I already checked my status and I'm good to go.
My daughter is playing in a volleyball tournament at Enterprise High next weekend. My inlaws aren't going to be able to go and I was gonna try to FaceTime the games for them... Anyone here know if they have a guest wifi in the high school gyms?
I teach at a school in another part of the state and we have a guest wifi that doesn't require a password. I wonder if they have something similar.
These are no new taxes for Mobile County and will help with repaving roads, expanding roads, rebuilding bridges, improving intersection, pave new roads for roughly 77 miles of roadway in Mobile County

I'm writing this because I keep seeing a lot of really bad takes regarding county specific constitutional amendments. People are inventing all kinds of conspiracies around it and imagining that because something that seemingly should be a local issue is up for vote as a constitutional amendment which necessarily means that someone is trying to sneak something over on everyone (>!I mean, they probably are since they're all damn snakes, but not specifically because it's being done as amendment--it's a nuanced take.!<)
Basically, a bunch of assholes in 1901 passed a Constitution for the state that essentially required most things that involve money or assets at the county or lower level and other various things that could otherwise be done just through legislative acts be handled solely through constitutional amendment. This is wrong in particulars, but it's correct enough that you've an idea of how it works. Over time, there have been some carve-outs (mainly based off of population), but by and large, this is still how it works..
Every few decades we forget why we haven't rewrote it yet (>!it's an incredible amount of work because it'd change county level official mandates to the point you're basically creating new county level governments across the state while figuring out how to move what laws to what levels while establishing a not-stupid way of governance going forward which would be to the detriment of the population centers who have the state legislature on lockdown...and did I mention that it's Alabama politicians who would be doing this?!<), and then everyone looks at our ridiculously long Constitution (almost hit 1000 amendments!) agreeing that it's stupid and bad. Everyone then gets into a fight over exactly how to fix it; finally realizing that it's going to be a trainwreck that no one will ever agree on again, so the efforts just fizzle out.
The most recent of these was in 2022. They claim we have a new constitution, but all they did was reorganize it and delete a bit of stuff (don't worry, after deleting six figures worth of words, it's still 3.5x longer than any other state constitution, so we still hold onto that particular blue ribbon). The effort was little more than rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but hey, it's something I guess. I mean, they reset the number of amendments! >! This was wholly performative. Like yes, getting rid of the racist/sexist terminology is a categorical good; however, removing such while leaving in all of the legal mechanisms that keep the downtrodden down and trode upon doesn't rise to what I would consider substantive change. !<
Here's an excellent article that goes through actual detail about it and how it has changed over history: https://www.jsu.edu/news/jan_june2001/05112001a.html
And here's one that will catch you up to the current state of the constitution in the 20 years after that article was written: https://parcalabama.org/introduction-to-parcas-series-on-the-constitution-of-2022/

Well, just like the title says has anybody seen a Sasquatch or a Bigfoot encounter in North Alabama specifically i’ll look for anybody that had any encounters or weird things happen to them Russellville or muscle Shoals or Florance?
Hey, so my family family have been struggling with terrible plumbers that either a) overcharge, b) don't even show up, or c) break things. We're looking for an actually good plumber that will do the job right, since we've had 3 different ones out here on 8 occasions, and nothing has been fixed (the complete opposite in fact)
The state may already be called for you know who by the time I’m even able to get to the poll. Is there any difference in voting early in the morning or in the evening?
According to Alabama Rep. Jamie Kiel, R-Russellville this is forested land that "cannot currently be sold or leased because it is timberland under management by the Alabama Department of Conservation."
I'm fine with leaving some forest that's out of reach of Buc-ees. (Yes, that's what people are trying to persuade voters with. A chance to build more sprawling gas stations.)
EDIT: odds are, if this land were to be sold it would be clear cut and left an eyesore to fester
I go to college in a different county than the one I am registered to vote in. I requested an absentee ballot and I got it in the mail yesterday. I filled it out and I will be mailing it tomorrow (11/1). I am really scared it won’t get to where I need it to go on time. I’m in Jefferson county, and am registered to vote in Mobile County. What should I do?
Willing to explore Montgomery and other surrounding area
edit: i got to go see him. We sre in auburn so we had to wait til yesterday. He looked better than i thought he would but is in serious condition and will be in icu for a while. I'm aware the jail itself did not cause this, but it was literally a life or death situation that they didnt handle fast enough. thanks for all the info that has been forwarded to us, ive sent it all to my stepmom!!

My dad went to jail a week ago because of unpaid fine and they won't let him out until it's paid
ok yesterday he was saying he felt like he was dying and they were like lol ok and he cried and begged for hours telling them something is wrong
well then he started uncontrollably shitting blood all over himself they finally call the jail doctor who says this man needs to be in the hospital immediately this is an emergency
they finally take him to the hospital last night he immediately had surgery he had a burst ulcer in his colon and was bleeding internally and is in icu
Based on this small amount of information do you think there is a lawyer that would help us
On the alabama sos site it says my ballot was sent 10/25 and I still haven’t received it. I called my designated ballot person and she was not helpful at all. Is there any way I can track my ballot status outside of the two options mentioned above?
What law has Alabama implemented causing companies like Lucy, Northerner, etc to not ship to Alabama?
I’ve asked them and can’t get an answer.
Let me start by saying I have not been one that has been into sports in general. Recently our kids have become part of the Marching Band and naturally we took an interest in the school’s football team. So now with play offs around the corner I have some questions as I don’t really understand how this works.
How is it determined who all gets in the playoffs as I have seen schools with 10-0 and 5-5 in the playoffs?
How is it determined who will host the game?
How does a tie-breaker work?
Hello. I am having a hard time locating a reputable and qualified orthopedic veterinary surgeon who performs total hip replacements on dogs in Alabama. I already checked Auburn--they do not currently have a surgeon who does them. If any fellow Alabamians have had this surgery done for their dog, please let me know where you went and who you used. It doesn't have to be in Alabama, but would be a plus. Thank you
purchased an ev this week. looking to get a level 2 charger installed on the house. was just curious was price range I should be expecting to pay to have it installed.
I love history and who better to ask than people from there? :)
I have proper instruction in driving having completed an SDE approved course, I have practice from driving with my parents, I can pass the test, I haven't read anywhere on the ALEA website about the requirement to have my learner's license for 6 months. I have seen it on the Madison county website but I don't live in Madison county, I live in Morgan county. I don't see the necessity of having a permit for 6 months, considering I have had proper instruction in driving and can pass the road test, written test, and vision test. Things aren't the best at home and I need to drive to get to work, it is a necessity for me to be able to do that without breaking laws.
