Just a warning to all of you out there considering buying an AHER product, especially their pricey high-end computers: AHER's warranty period basically means "after the warranty is over, as far as we are concerned, you no longer exist." Other companies at least continue to provide basic support like BIOS and security updates for the pre-bundled software... not AHER! Warranty period over means all their obligations are finished! Seems like AHER is one of those companies that thinks that providing further basic support means they are losing a potential customer of a newer computer. Not the way it should be! If I drop 6k the best computer you can buy, in a year or two it's STILL super fast and while I don't expect the hardware to still be covered, I think it still deserves the basic updates. As a big spender I don't want to be treated with "Wham bham thank you, maam" level callousness. Learned my lesson. Never re-buying from AHER.
Interested in buying
My Acer Swift 3's hinge broke aged 1 year 2 months. I thought it'd be no issue because I paid for the extended warranty (3 years).
Acer told me this wasn't covered under warranty, so I paid £174 for a repair. I sent the laptop off before Christmas 2020.
It's now been over 4 months of the laptop being "under repair". I called so many times and the only update they ever gave was that they were "waiting for parts".
Now I just got an email that they are unable to source the parts and are sending the laptop back, unrepaired.
So now I have a broken laptop, in warranty, that Acer are unable to repair, and I cannot even pay for them to repair it.
My Acer dies after a few years of use. I learned my lesson and will not go back to acer. No support, not repairable, no option to buy replacement parts.
Is it worth trying to fix this one at all, or is the engineering so bad... that I'm better burning my cash.
I removed the old harddrive and entered the SSD. The BIOS can see it. I can start W10 install from an usb drive, but when I click install now it gives me an error about missing drivers. I found some drivers for the SATA AHCI device but when I try to load them I get the message new drivers can't be found and I need to make sure I am using the right driver...
Am I missing something? Do I need to load other drivers? (USB or whatever) or am I using the wrong the driver?
Anyone experience with this?
Does anyone know where I can find a eRecovery image ISO download for my E5-571P?
So I have an Acer laptop that was sitting in my cupboard. I haven't used it for years, and hid it there because it didn't want to boot anymore. It's a fairly old model, a 5810TG from 2009.
Out of curiosity, I decide to power it on this morning. To my amazement, the thing booted. Well OK, it didn't went far as there wasn't any HDD installed, but no weird beeps and it went past the BIOS screen.
Now, to install a storage drive or upgrade your RAM on this laptop, you must remove a plate on the base of the computer, held by 6 or 8 screws, I don't remember exactly. Something I should have noticed however when I took apart that plate, the screws aren't all of the same length. In fact, one is significantly longer than others. I just slide my drive in, and screw the whole thing back. You guessed it, this is where I fucked up. I screwed the longer one in the wrong place, damaging the motherboard. My screen is now flashing greenish bars.
What strikes me though, is how it was easy to mess things up. The screws are all unlabeled black screws. And more surprisingly, there is nothing to stop you from damaging the motherboard underneath. They could have put a little plastic bit at the the end, to cover the hole, but they didn't. I bet this was engineered as is.
And I'm not alone! Check out these videos from 2011 & 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI-kxlMU5Uw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae2GEK0Slcw
This is exactly what I'm experiencing right now.
Machine sits w a black screen and spends days just trying to read the hard drive, then stops, then tries again. Have not been able to boot from disk or thumb drive using several programs.
Is there a way to hit a restart and unfreeze the hardware?
In case you're wondering I bought it cheap as a disposable for surfing the web only. Was OK for such a low effort job, but now?
came here to ask if the v5-591g overheats while gaming instead got convinced not to buy an acer at all also fuck you acer I guess and fuck you my hp laptop for overheating easy
It's her 96th birthday today, and we just finished singing her the "happy birthday" song. All went well, but when we finished singing I said "and many mooore...", since I do that for everyone and don't even think about it before doing it.
This prompted an unexpected, awkward silence from my entire extended family, many of whom either looked at me questioning why I would ever say such a thing to a 96 year old who likely doesn't have a particularly long HP bar left, or looked at her
I got a Acer laptop and i have 8 GB of RAM(2 OF 4 GB) but it only use 4 , it's because the graffic card?(Nvidia Geforce 750) Help :( PD:HATE THIS PC SLOW AF
Sent my Acer laptop in for repairs about 2 weeks ago, as it turned off and adamantly refused to power on again. Got it back on Friday. They'd put in a new mainboard and hard drive, although they didn't actually tell me what was wrong with it. Today is Wednesday, and it broke again - the exact same way. Acer sends me a shipping label, but when I get to FedEx they say they can't put insurance on it. I call Acer again, finally get through to a human, and - they put me on hold for like half an hour. By the time they told me "Oh yeah, we'll cover insurance" I'd already paid $65 to ship with insurance. Acer of course is like, "oops, sucks to be you!"
I will NEVER buy another Acer product.
I got an acer laptop open boxed in Canada to place my dying hp dv6000 and tbh, i kinda like it, its a okay laptop for less than $200. Is it bad that i kinda like acer?
Honestly what the fuck. If /r/solusproject can toss in a fucking open-source touchpad driver and make it work seamlessly, there is no excuse for acer's to be this shitty. So much fucking jitter, lag, and it basically doesn't function while in windows recovery mode. It obviously isn't the hardware, so whats so fucking hard to fix?
