Reasons to be optimistic about Europe

What makes you optimistic about Europe?

  • The art of debate,
  • our cultural superpower,
  • laws for vacuum cleaners,
  • shared enthusiasm...

These are just some of the positive experiences and responses that people from across the continent (and from this group) have shared.

This article brings them all together and will give you a(n) (even) more positive outlook on the EU: https://callforoptimism.com/united-in-diversity-optimistic-about-europe/

I'm looking for Europe-optimists!

Dear all, first of all: thank you for engaging for a united and strong Europe! Pro-European activism in the era of Pegida, Brexit, President Orbán, the dutch PVV etc., is great, courageous and admirable!

I started a project called "Call for Optimism" with the mission to collect and share all kinds of ideas, thoughts and experiences that make people feel optimistic: https://callforoptimism.com/ .

I would love to hear about what makes you optimistic about a united, successful Europe?

I would be very happy and grateful if one of you would be willing to get in touch to share your thoughts on this!

Is this the beginning of the end?

With great disappointment I see how European Union reacted to the matter of immigration. Yes! a difficult subject but its obvious that countries with severe economical issues have been left alone to deal at the forefront of this situation. Greece is getting loaded with souls driven there mainly by Turkey who seem to be the favourite naughty baby of Europe, always getting away with a slap on the wrist. Indicative of Europe's indifference was the last visit at the greek borders by European officials only to promise blankets and few millions to make it go off of their shoulders. Italy was also dealing alone with this issue with result the great power the far left party gained in just few years.

A Europe for the few shows no hope for the weak and 3 countries are driving this heavy vehicle which seems to be getting heavier. Will this Europe remain united? for how long? Is this exceptional event that no man alive has lived in his life span, the beginning of the end of this union?

Why was Ursula von der Leyen not in the eurovision debate?

The Eurovision debate was on 15th of May 2019. I understood the winner would be president of the EU commission. The winning party was EPP with Manfred Weber in the debate, but the EU commission president became Ursula von der Leyen from... well I don't what party she is/was in.

According to wikipedia the lead candidate has a mandate to be commission president. what does mandate mean if it can be ignored?

What is the EU equivalent of the BBC, Russia Today, and Voice of America?

Nations use news organizations to spread a positive image abroad. The ones I am familiar with are BBC for the United Kingdom, Russia Today for Russia, and Voice of American for the United States.

Is there a central EU propaganda channel or what are the names of the EU funded organizations that are responsible for spreading a positive image of the EU to the world?

Right wing propaganda in Reddit: Je cherche des Francophones qui veulent aider a combattre la fausse information partagé dans une communauté Reddit

In the community r/FranceLibre I've often see severe right wing propaganda being often shared, the kinds based in Braitbart and GatestoneInstitute propaganda.

I've been trying my best to reply with articles bringing more factual information or another view of the subject but it's been hard to keep up.

The community is French therefore I'm seeking for help from my Francophone fellows to pursue this war on misinformation.

You only have to join the community and reply with some sense from time to time. It's difficult, you are going to see a lot of garbage being shared there, sometimes I wonder what's even the point.

Need help finding out who is behind this article and what's their agenda

Today Google now proposed me this article for reading:

https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14767/europe-dreams-immigration

Given that today we are constantly being bombarded online with propaganda and agendas of different groups, I was skeptical about the motives of this article and wanted to find out more who's behind it.

Anyone heard of Gatestone Institute before? Who are they? Does anyone know anything more than their apparent image?
