Zeuhl means celestial in Kobaïan, the constructed language created by Christian Vander. Originally solely applied to the music of Vander's band, Magma, the term zeuhl was eventually used to describe the similar music produced by French bands, beginning in the mid-1970s. Although primarily a French phenomenon, zeuhl has influenced recent avant-garde Japanese bands.

Why? Why have I only heard about this recently? It seems like nobody has ever heard of zeuhl. I don't understand why it isn't more popular.
What's going on?
But life kinda got in the way. To me some others are kewl but there's mostly just Magma and Koenjii Hyakkei. I wonder if everyone here can formulate through comments basically a "how to" zeuhl. For instance, "use 7/4 time and polyrhythms a lot" Go!
I recently watched Vol 4 and was blown away. I've Vol 3 is the best of the series, but it isn't available on Magma's website or Bandcamp. I can't even find a second-hand copy! Does anyone know where I can get a copy?
Am I the only one who finds similarities between our good old Christian Vander (70s) and the young rising drummer JD Beck? (in terms of appearance and drumming skills)
I want to get a Magma DVD but there's quite a few to choose from. What would you guys recommend?
Hello, I've just discovered Magma earlier this week and I'm already obsessed. I want to read about the stories taking place on their albums but since all the lyrics are in Kobaian I'm not sure how I'm meant to do that. Can anyone recommend a resource? Thanks
My taste leans toward Zao, Potemkine and Benoit Widemann's solo stuff rather than Magma, fwiw.
Hür,
I believe it to be a near hopeless case now, however, I have been seeking out the Magma book with the photos by Dider Ferry, having missed the chance to officially purchase it, and the one source I've found won't accept my payment methods. If anyone has a lead, could occasionally, maybe sometimes, keep an eye out (I am unfortunately not omniscient!...) or would even lend it to me just for potentially scanning it, I would really hugely appreciate it. If possible I'd cover any costs that might come up if someone would be willing to lend or even give it to me. Thank you so dearly...
Dondaï!
