Stay whelmed.
This subreddit is for discussion, news, fan content, and shitposts related to a TV series called 'Young Justice'.
The series follows the lives of teenage heroes and sidekicks who are members of a fictional covert operation group referred to simply as 'the team'. Young Justice is essentially a young counterpart to the famous adult team, the Justice League. The main setting is a fictional universe apart from the previous DCAU and other continuities (designated as Earth-16) during a time period in which superheroes are a relatively recent phenomenon.

I mean like he disappeared but does that mean he is really dead ?
Wish me luck y'all, and Happy Halloween!
In season 3 Superboy is placed in one those tar pods. Now I know that tar was meant to unlock latent powers and Lex Luthor in the show presumably doesn’t have any. What do you think would happen to Superboy if he was exposed to Tar? Would he simply die? Would it awaken some of his powers momentarily? Would slowly decompose? What do think?
Watching season 3 right now and i’m wondering, why is Bart Allen still there? He’s done what he came back to do and now he’s just chilling in the past. I know The Flash is fast/smart enough to send him back so why is bro still around 🤔 Just irks me that he’s basically meeting his family before he’s born.
I’m tired of seeing this guy getting shit on by every enemy. Bro can’t even handle black manta. Like I understand the notion that if he was lore accurate the show would suck but come on can’t he get his moments every now and then ? The only time he got anything done is with the shields. I dunno I guess this post isn’t very substantial but it kept bothering me so I’m venting 😂
One of my favorite character is superboy and as much as I love his character part of me wishes they gave him a little more of Superman’s powers. Like at least let him be as strong as Superman or give him heat vision. He doesn’t need all of Superman’s powers just a little more than what he has in the show. And why didn’t Cadmus have the genomes teach him martial arts while in suspension especially considering his lack of powers compared to Superman’s? I know he learns from canary later in the series but still.
There’s quite a few moments for me that get me in my feels. What are some of your top moments like that?
One of my big ones is Dick’s fever dream in season 3. Part of it is the nostalgia of the OG team being the OG team in their original costumes and stuff then another part was Wally was “back” for a minute. And finally how everyone responded after that brain linked fever dream was over and all their emotions. Just made me feel all kinds of ways and one of my favorite moments in the show because of all the feelings.
Feel free to share top moments and the emotional feelings you had behind them.
Season 2 Nightwing is probably the best character or atleast he would be if his actions had consequences and was allowed to have a redemption arc. Nightwing upon becoming leader makes terrible choices over and over again like keeping secrets from his friends, faking his friends death causing miss Martian to lobotomies Aqualad and it all culminated with him losing his team to the Reach. To be fair It’s not all his fault other characters were just as responsible like Miss Martian but if he trusted his team and told them what’s going on they probably wouldn’t have been kidnapped
Him being a terrible leader isn’t really that bad as I like that for this version of the character, it sets him apart from versions of him who are always depicted as good leaders and it makes sense that he after being raised by Batman would act in this way. The problem is that the show doesn’t see his actions as wrong or doesn’t acknowledge his actions are wrong the scene in season 2 were he and miss martian have a "guiltoff" about how they're actions lead to their teammates being kidnapped nothing is done beyond telling us the audience that they feel bad and yeah it is their fault and they should do better and blah blah blah but we never get any consequences for their actions. They never get redeemed, they don’t even get to save their teammates it was Arsenal and friends who did that and it’s never brought up again until season 3 which is its own can of worms. it was so underwhelming for me that was the worst part episode.
If I could’ve pitched season 3 I would’ve put characters like nightwing and red arrow in the roles of their mentors nightwing as batman and red arrow as Green arrow. Bruce would be in space leading the other league members While Nightwing is on earth leading the ground team. Nightwing taking on the mantle of Batman would have been such a great way to show just how far he's fallen as a character from him saying he doesn't want to be the batman anymore.. It could've reinforced in his mind that all that matters is the mission and that he'll do anything to archieve his mission since he didn't really face any real consequences for his actions in season 2 and the death of Wally his bestfriend dying could've been a catalyst that sets him off the deep end and his redemption would be Jason Todd coming back another Batman figure and he had to try and save him.
Am I the only one who hates these time jumps between each season?
I really wish there was a spin-off that showed what happened between each season. Things like Jason's "death", how the Bat-Family grew, Dick and Zatanna's break-up, etc.
Before I begin, I want to make it clear that I am a fan of Young Justice. For a lot of people, myself included this was my introduction to DC; our version of the DCAU (BTAS, JL, JL Unlimited, ect) and helped skyrocket several fairly unknown characters into fan favorites. The show was canceled after its second season; only to be rebooted with a more mature coat of paint for seasons 3 and 4. However, the last season ended on a cliffhanger and with no announcements of a 5th season, we’ve been left in limbo for almost three years.
But, the series isn’t officially over; Warner Bros. has never made any announcement that they have decided to cancel it. And the producers like Greg Weisman have stated that they are ready to go on a 5th season assuming they ever get the greenlight.
Don’t get me wrong, I like young justice; I once truly loved it. There will always be a part of me that wants to see where they go from here, new characters, villains, stories, it could be very interesting. But, after all this time; we have to ask ourselves, is it worth it? This subreddit is no stranger to talking about a 5th season; who and what we would want to see - hell, I've even seen fan-made scripts for that. It’s all so impressive and I do love how this community is still so active (Stay whelmed guys). But, after all this time; I don’t think it’s worth it. I have my reasons for this, starting with.
While no season of Young Justice is definitively bad or unwatchable, ever since s2 there’s been a gradual decline in quality. The first was the five year time-skip; the first time I saw it - I figured that I had missed an entire season or movie in between seasons; Dick going from Robin to Nightwing, M'gann and Connor’s breakup, Jason Todd, there's an entire season of content just in the footnotes. The cast went from 6-9 main characters to a cast of dozens of main and supporting characters, and while some had really good storylines; it made the series too bloated and at times either move at a snail's pace, or blaze past the important stuff. Take for example something like Jason Todd, him being in the league of assassins is a great concept and should have been the focus of the Nightwing arc nowhere, the Zatanna and Doctor Fate storyline had a strong start; but went too far into being about the mystic forces of the DC universe. There are good arcs, I think Artemis has a great arc (Really major props for YJ for making her so popular), and Beast Boy’s is also good and a great representation of Depression, but it did go on for a bit too long.
Then comes its commentary. I don’t want to come off as one of those “Oh Young Justice Became Woke Propaganda” people, because I actually applaud them for having such a diverse cast; I think Halo was a fine inclusion (Scrap everything with Forager and they’d be better off). But, by season 4 it did start to feel like the show was trying to appeal to a wider audience. Nothing wrong with having queer representation or being an analogy; but at times it did come off as Social Commentary first and then being entertainment second. There’s a few examples but the big one is the Martian arc; the original dynamic of Martians being a racially divided society was fine and it could have expanded on characters like M’comm. But it was so sloppily handled and really just came off as “Racism bad” rather than being a quality parallel.
In a tweet Greg Weiseman stated that Young Justice would never have a proper ending. Some might say this is a good thing, that it’ll always leave room for new spin-offs. I’d say… that he doesn’t actually know how to end the show; or at least hasn’t thought of one.
You could argue that this could lead to some interesting ideas; maybe we’d get a Tower of Babel arc, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Imperiex wars, Brainiac, ect. but to me, it just sounds like he’ll drag the series on and on for years if it’s rebooted and the series won’t rise up with a bang, it’ll just keep going downhill and end on a pitiful note.
Young Justice blew up so fast mostly because when it came out; it was basically the only current DC media out there, if you wanted to watch a current DC show; that was it. The DCEU wouldn’t start for another three years with Man of Steel. So when Young Justice Outsiders and Phantoms dropped, there was still an audience; but, it wasn't alone.
The DCEU was in full swing; now granted it would ultimately crash and burn leading to James Gunn to pick up the wreckage of that trainwreck. Wonder Woman, BvS, Shazam, Justice League, Suicide Squad. Now were these all good? No… but they made a lot of money (Until they didn't). But, these were all live action; so Young Justice had no competition in that department right?
Enter the DCAMU, a completely independent series of animated films in its own universe with a majority of the same characters; even giving an Aqualad cameo. These movies were on par with, and exceeded YJ; in quality and storytelling, and then came more animated shows, things like Harley Quinn, Kite-Man, Caped Crusaders, and the upcoming Creature Commandos each bringing in their own audience, there are too many shows that Young Justice a show that went out with a less than stellar 4th season to compete with in the modern day.
Creature Commandos is the big focal point. It’s the first animated series for the rebooted DCU. Gunn is a big fan of animated media - but that isn’t YJ’s saving grace; it’s its downfall. He’s trying to reboot a failed franchise and needs to bring as big of an audience as he can to get it jump started and this show is that starting point. So a show like Young Justice is going to be a massive competitor. Given how big the show was, it could drive away a substantial group who would have gone towards the new Gunn DC content instead.
There are three ways for the future of Young Justice to end. The optimist way, the pessimist way, and the realist way.
In the Optimist future, the show gets picked up; maybe by Netflix or Prime. Season 5 is released to glowing reviews and the show goes back to being one of the best DC projects of all time.
In the pessimist future, the show is officially canceled. With the rise of the Gunn DC Universe there is no room for a show like this, and the audience fades away to watch new content.
In the realist ending, the show is never canceled or renewed; Young Justice falls into the same limbo that so many shows wind up in; doomed to fade away as little more than a hopefully pleasant memory.
I don’t hate Young Justice, even with their flaws Seasons 3 and 4 are still leagues better than most shows; for me both Season 1 and 2 are 9/10, 3 is a 5/10 and 4 is a 6/10. If tomorrow season 5 or even more seasons are greenlit; and no matter how good or bad they are - i’ll return to this post and give a little anecdote on how it is.
I hope I haven’t come off as some grandstanding hack; and if I have please yell at me in the comments. No matter what happens for the future of Young Justice, I'm glad the show exists and a part of me still hopes to see it return. But until then, stay whelmed.

Am I the only person who found him sexy AF? Like the scars the temperament, the immortality, the way his mind operated? Just curious
What exactly did lobo call Cassie in the season two opener?
What do Kroloteans to the worlds they invade, and they're successful?
Why weren’t characters like starfire and raven introduced already. I think someone like starfire would have been great to see in season 2 with the whole alien motif of the season and seeing someone like raven as one of the students of Zatanna in S4 would have been another great place to introduce her
What other characters would you like to have seen
So I know he got his powers from M'gann's blood, but she's a White Martian, so how does that work?
I'm sure this has been said a hundred times but I've never heard it or said it aloud. Wally is the fastest Flash in the comics he is faster than Barry and Impulse, but in the show HE ISN'T they actually made him slower so he dies. It genuinely upsets me as a big Flash fan that the fastest speedster died cuz he "wasn't fast enough" when IMPULSE WAS. Just joined this community and decided I want to say smthin.
I know this is random but this is my character Violet Wayne AKA Phoenix with Will Harper AKA Red Arrow
I was watching season 4 episode 10 and zatanna said something to thirteen/traci that got me thinking,in the ‘03 teen titans series jinx’s powers are all bad luck based and zatanna told Traci that she was still relying on her bad luck powers too much which makes me think Traci will end up turning into jinx in season 5.
Like the title says I tried to do my attempt at a YJ Starfire and Raven, here I based it off the og George Perez designs (in the descriptions for some scenes in the comic Raven’s cloak is described as black, just probably colored blue due to cartridge limitations, she also is described having steel gray eyes fun fact). Since they already raceswapped characters like Halo, Artemis, and Dolphin I think there is maybe a 20% chance they might make her actually Indian like her inspiration instead of Caucasian (Starfire gets a free pass because she’s a alien but I did base her looks off Raquel and Karen’s face designs.
Definitely, I feel the same way—angry and frustrated, just like a lot of people on this Reddit. It’s crazy because I spent three days watching the first season, and suddenly, I moved on to the second, and the characters I knew are no longer there because of that holy five-year time jump... And the most frustrating part is that the first season ends exactly where the second one begins, and it's like AAAHHHH.
I know a lot of people here will debate this, but personally, I find it really painful to see that the characters you got to know won't reunite and are no longer a team (it's very realistic because life is like that—everyone goes their own way), but it would have been cool to have them at least for one more season as the team that was just starting to come together.
Many say there was nothing left to adapt in their personal arcs, but I disagree with that opinion.
That tool of "skipping" to not see everyone together the same as before, I know it is a great tool to keep us, as viewers, hooked and wanting to discover the mystery, but it just hurts.
I don’t even feel like finishing the other seasons, and if I do, it will be through a YouTube recap.
Did you also feel this way the first time you saw the time jump? Do you recommend I keep watching until the 4th season?
What would have happened if Superman and other heroes/ villains with enhanced speed if they helped Barry, Bart and Wally. Do you think that Wally would have lived or was he still slower than the rest and would have died anyway?
So. They broke up. They say that in season two..
I was sad, tbh. I actually liked those two dating, but Conner dumping her was unexpected.
Also, off the note, m'gann is killing the aliens to get information. That's not good tbh.
Edit:I meant to type m'gann, not megan, on the title
So I got up to season two. And to be honest, like. I don't like the 5 years later. I made it to ep 3 of season 2 and yeah, we've got beastboy and bluebeetle and stuff. But the 5 year jump just left me more confused. Like. Will it explain what happened in future episodes or smth
I'm thinking of making a daughter of black canary and green arrow thoughts.
